Review Neptune Palace Restaurant - Sydney

This restaurant has been in Circular Quay for many years and very popular Chinese Malaysian restaurant. This time, came here for a pre-theatre dinner with 7 other friends. The salt and pepper quails and squid remained the same every time I came, and has always been highly recommended. We quite enjoyed the prawn curry inside the coconut, with good flavours and mild spice throughout. The pineapple fried rice was also quite nice. A good authentic Chinese Malaysian restaurant in the precinct and recommend to those who want to have a good Chinese dishes, away from the Haymarket area.

Consistently good over the years. Wonderful old school service with entire experience reminiscent of a 1970's Chinese meal with a predominantly Anglo patronage. Except for the ominous presence of wine, beer and spirits for those who cannot miss a meal without it, everything else is safely Halal. An extensive menu with something for everyone and private prayer space is very convenient too

Me Goreng was great! XO chilli prawns were great too. Nasi goreng felt a bit low on salt and spices. Chicken and cashew nut was okay. The best part was lamb chops. They were delish! Great service! Good ambience!

Loved the experience, from booking table online to being served. Waiter was nice and helped with all our needs(being with kids). Food was amazing. Ordered chicken corn soup, Sze Chuan Chicken, sweet n sour chicken, Chicken Hokkin Mee noodles and steam rice. Loved every dish, especially Sweet and Sour chicken was amazing, loved by all..

The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant. It's a bit over pricy yet reasonable considering the location. Would recommend to try chicken soup, schezwan beef and Murtabaq. The Nasi Goreng was not worth the taste compared to other Malaysian restaurants. Overall, decent food with great customer service.

My family has been coming here for years, and it never disappoints! I think their Mongolian Lamb and Chicken is a must have, and their honey king prawns are amazing. This is probably my favourite restaurant, and it has the nicest views upstairs. Staff are also always kind and accommodating.

I've tried several dishes on the menu, but can't get enough of the soft shell crab! It really is yummy. The mocktails are great, but considering we order 2-3 per person, the price ($10 ea) they aren't as generous of a serving size like the food is.

If you want great chinese fine dining in the city with some water view, I highly recommend this place. The quality of food has been consistently great, you can tell they use fresh ingredient and chefs cook with great skills. It can be slightly tricky for disability access upstairs and the price can be a bit high for chinese food but for the quality of food it's not a bad value.๐Ÿ‘

Waiter was very helpful. Food was very, very tasty- and the fact that it is a halal restaurant is a bonus! It is a bit more on the pricer side but very well worth it

A Chinese and Malaysian restaurant established for at least 20 years. They have a mixture of classic dishes as well as fusion dishes. ๐Ÿ™‚

I loved the presentation of their Kelantan chicken served in a coconut shell. The chicken was soaked in a thin sauce which tasted similar to a laksa broth. If you like chicken laksa, you will like that dish. To me, I more prefer Dry curry soft shell crab. The soft shell crab was succulent, it was battered & deep fried before coating with rich dry curry sauce. ๐Ÿ˜‹

We also ordered Braised sea cucumber & mushroom from the special CNY menu. The sea cucumber was cooked beautifully with a nice bite. Many places they cook it for too long & lose the texture. I was pleased there was a good amount in the dish. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Itโ€™s a little pricey compared with other Chinese Malaysian eateries but you get good quality of food & value for money, accompanied with great customer service. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not a very famous Cantonese/Chinese restaurant in Sydney, but it is conveniently located in Circular Quay. Love their noodles, stewed beef and Yu Sheng (only during Chinese New Year). Food is good but takes a while.

Such delicious Chinese in the heart of Sydney. Loved the food here. The service was efficient as well. The Food was surprisingly delicious. It far outweighed my expectations. A must try if you're craving for some tantalising Chinese at reasonable prices. It's halal as well!

I needed a venue that offered Halal meals. That was easy to get to via public transport.

This search took days. I don't understand why it is so hard to find lists of halal (and kosher) restaurants. I always make an effort to be inclusive. Religious diets are a lot more sane than the paleo fad type diets.

Anyway I found this place. The decor was fine dining but Asian style. Good view.

The food was pretty good. The stand out dish was the steak with XO sauce and the sambal prawns.

We will be back.

This Chinese/Malaysian restaurant presents beautiful halal dishes. Itโ€™s an award winning venue with accolades stretching back more than 20 years - finalist of the Asian Restaurant of the Year, Chefโ€™s Hat Awards and SMH Good Food to name a few. Boasting views of the iconic Quay and within walking distance of key landmarks, itโ€™s an essential Sydney dining destination. .

Expectations were set high from the get go, and delivery successful.

A Sydney institution! Everyone should go to Neptune's at least one in their lives. Reasonably priced and great food any time of day or very late at night! Get a banquet, sit back and enjoy yourself!

Neptune's has a nice and cosy vibe to the restaurant along with the warm, and very friendly service.

The food... Well that was a let down. I was extremely excited to try this restaurant but I'm disappointed with the quality of the dishes.

We ordered the steam cod fish with ginger and shallots. The fish was just too tough for me, though the sauce was delicious.
Our second order was the magenta soft shell crab. This was the Malaysian crab cuisine which I feel is not as good as the Chinese versions. It was deep fried but not enough flavour.

I would dine here again to try their other meals on the menu. I believe our choices wasn't the best and I hope I will be mesmerised by the food the second time around.

The menu is quite large as well with over 100 different dishes to choose from. I'm sure there are some gems in the menu, you just have to keep trying different ones I say!๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž
I've been going here since the 1990s, delicious Malaysian/Singaporean food. Great atmosphere and service and my family agree that Neptune Palace is one of our favourite weekend destinations. After their recent renovation, Neptune Palace fits the seafood theme and it is impossible to choose from the delicious menu!

Neptune Palace is a fusion of chinese and malaysian food. We had 8 dishes ranging from chinese lemon chicken to noodles to malaysian beef rendang and everything was good. The serving sizes of every dish are good for sharing from 3-5 persons (depending on your appetite of course). Since it offers good food and ambience, expect for it to come with a price as well. The place can get packed during dinner time so make sure to go there earlier than everyone else. I'm giving this place a good review but if you want to truly experience a more authentic chinese food and vibe might as well go over to Chinatown and get a cheaper deal than this place offers.

A nice quiet place serving Chinese and Malaysian cuisines, right near circular quay. The dishes weren't bad. But there wasn't anything extraordinary about them.

We are from Malaysia and we were searching for Chinese food that is halal and this place came up. To our surprise they serve Malaysian food! The foods were great. It was enough to satisfy our hunger and make us wanting more. There were two things that weren't up to par tho, one the veggie had a bit of sand in them and the second was that one of the servers was very snippy, thank god the other one who served us who was from Indonesia was very polite and cheerful. He made our dining pleasurable.

One of the best places to have dinner , there food was amazing , there service is on point , there service to getting food out was about 8 minutes tops . This restaurant doesn't have the best decor but there food makes up for that. If your looking for a good restaurant to enjoy with friends def a place to go

I rated this a 5 as it deserves the recognition , there also halal which caters for both worlds โ˜บ๏ธ

A must try for anyone who is looking for a great place to dine out

We visited this place on a Saturday night and found this restaurant to be very disappointing comparing what's on offer in other Chinese restaurants. The prices that you pay for plates is double the price you pay in other restaurants. Considering the location in the centre of the CBD and the high rent price for such establishments, the price is expected. However, what is disappointing is the serving portions which are way too small for the price when compared to other restaurants. What is even more disappointing is paying $14 for a glass of Spinifex Miette Shiraz which sells for $20 a bottle. What is funny is that the glass that they offered was under a quarter full and way less than the recommended size for a standard glass of wine. Maybe they should buy the wine glasses that are marked with a line instead of ripping customers off. The size was simply much smaller than the recommended offering and the offering in other restaurants. I know this from the extensive past experience working in the field. Overall, this restaurant is overpriced with a poor atmosphere and a disappointments at best.

Revisited Neptune Palace after a long while. We ended up ordering 3 quite similar dishes, the trout in banana leaf, scallops, and crispy boneless duck all had the same turmeric and coconut sauce. It's absolutely delicious (especially the duck, that's my high recommendation of the day) but we should have ordered for more variation. The roti chennai was average or slightly below. The menu has been updated since the last time I was there and I think is even more expensive. The prices are really ridiculously high here. And the vests are different and are even worse. Almost as bad as the wallpaper. Consider the awful colours as entertainment. With an entertainment card and 25%, it makes the place better value, and there are some standout dishes.ย

I think that the decor is quite tacky and garish and so are the waiters' vests! But that's part of the fun. The first time I went here for a quick pre-theatre meal, the food was a 5, the beef rendang and scallops in turmeric were perfection. When I went back with a few friends, the appetizers were great, the dry fried okra very nice and the soft shell crab yummy. But the rendang wasn't as good. I think I'd give the food a 4. It's pricy for Asian food but it is very good. Worth a try, I'd say.

Neptune Palace has been around for quite a while, serving a very diverse and extensive combination of Malaysian and Chinese Halal cuisine. The actual restaurant is a little hidden away and hard to find - in fact a lot hidden and very hard to find - but it's worth looking for.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
It seems pitiful that in its seventeen year operating history, I haven't managed to discover this tucked-away Circular Quay gem - but at least I finally found it in the year of the metallic tiger. Bibbed up, I curse myself with every bite of the magnifice

Don't judge by the wall paper!!!. Brought here by a friend, despite initally appearing like a dive this place was actually awesome! We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table but it was worth it. The portions were very generous and they had a great varity of dishes from the more 'traditional' chinese food items to more malaysian-style dishes. Waiters were very prompt. I would come here again (although they really need to modernise the decor!!!!)

This place used to be excellent. We had the unfortunate experience of an unhelpful obnoxious waiter tonight. It was not busy but took over an hour for 2 mains to arrive. When we enquirer after the rest of our dishes we received a rude response so we cancelled the balance and left well out of pocket for a less than average meal.
Little One
Not worth the money. We had mee goreng prawn for $38. We only got 3 prawns in the entire dish. Some noodles and 5-6 pieces of veggies. We complained twice. Finally after getting through to the waiter he apologized and said if shouldnt have been served like that. He ended up giving that meal for free. Wouldn't go back purely because it's over priced .

2/5 Stars - Not worth it :/. This place tries to boast it's 5 star service and class, but they don't even know the etiquette of basic food service. I was just starting my last bite of my meal and a server comes and asks if we would like desert, and was staring at me for an answer! I looked at him and suggested he come back after we all finished eating. Also, for the quality of food, the price was overpriced and this pretentious place, with tacky decoration and internal atmosphere, was not worth it. Give it a miss
Mmmm
Great food, Great Service!. The food was amazing and the waiters were so helpful and attentive.
I recommend the lemon chicken - it was not greasy and out of this world.
Would def. go again for a fine dining experience :)
Good Location too!

One of my favorite restaurants in the CBD. a bit pricey but food is very tasty. Good service

Service is the star here. Some of the best restaurant service in the city. I have eaten here at least five times now and have been very well taken care of each time. The Malaysian flavours in the food are beautiful and complex, and if you wanted to you could make an excellent meal from just a combination of the entrees. Recommend going in at least a group of four in order to get enough variety.
