A chill spot with an incredible variety of beers and of course, belgian food. The atmosphere is very unique, the staff friendly, and its a great spot to grab lunch
As name suggests, Belgian Beer Cafe Heritage is where you come and try things Belgian – either one of their famous beers or signature dishes. Situated at the quieter end of The Rocks historic precinct, the restaurant must have had ambitious plan to fill up the spacious dining room but somehow falls short. On most of our visits over the years, we never saw this place even half full and the high ceiling interior amplifies the emptiness.

Internationally Excellent 😁😁
I've been here several times though this is the first reviewing this establishment.
I've often visited this establishment for work conferences whether it be business lunch / Meeting or a casual drinks night.
The ambiance is excellent. The staff are terrific and friendly.
The beer... well the names are hard cause they are international but hey.... they taste great.
Chose this authentic looking European bistro for our dinner venue as it was close to where we stayed on our trip. The classic setting was just like walking into a different realm, beautifully recreated and sophisticated with vintage decor and furnishings.
Though we made a Dimmi booking via Zomato, it wasn't busy on a weekday. Food service was a little slow but staff were warm and accommodating. Looking for something quick and filling, we didn't try some other interesting variety such as their popular mussels or entree sharing items. Our pot pie was quite soupy instead of the usual gravy texture. We did enjoy the big portioned beer battered fish was prepared nice and crispy. The waffle dessert was good but pricey for the small serving.
An unique experience to recommend to those who enjoy being in a spacious and charming place where time seemingly stood still for everyone to gather and just enjoy a good meal and drink together.

The service was very good. I was expecting the waiters and waitresses to be slightly arrogant and aloof as are many white people who serve in such restaurants.
The food was good. We ordered a pot of mussels each and the taste was unbelievable. One of us realised that the mussels were larger this time round. The lobster flavour and blue cheese flavour had our tastebuds overwhelmed. It was that good.
We didn't think it would have been enough so we also ordered some meatballs and chips. The meatball was nothing special and neither the chips, however, they were ordered as a tool by which we would fill the rest of our hungry stomachs.
Belgian beer cafe ("bbc", as we would call it. Lol.) is our go-to drinks after work place. I used not to be a beer person but this place has proven me wrong. It made me realize that beers on weekdays isn't so bad after all. Grab their chips as well to go with your choice of beer, few good friends and you're sure to survive the work week stress free.
This is not only a fantastic place to grab a Belgian beer, but also a great place to catch up for dinner, especially if you love mussels. We’re talking about 1kg bowls of mussels in a variety of sauces ranging from European to Asian (all gluten-free), served with hot chips and mayo. We were told one bowl + sides would be enough for us, but we ordered two + a small salad (just because we’re dietitians) and we had no issues polishing them off.
Great place for a giant pot of mussels. Love the creamy white sauce with the mussels, make sure you dip the mussel in the sauce after you peel it from the shell for better sauce!

Was strolling by and thought this would be a decent place for a business lunch. No reservations needed for a Thursday lunch session. We walked in and straight to the bar to order the Belgian sausages and a pot of Mussels in Traditional sauce and fries; plus two Hoegardens.
We proceeded to take a seat on a table next to an office outing of 30 people (it's that kinda place as highlighted by other fellow Zomatoes.). The food arrived about 10-15 minutes later.
The sausages were authentic and filling. It was served with nice gravy and a sweet potato mash. The fries were decent and fresh. The mussels were good but the sauce lacked the ompph / wow factor. Overall a decent dining experience.
A little above average. Acceptable.
Good place to go with your work mates after a hard day at the office. This place can get loud so grab a couple of beers and enjoy the evening. The food is pretty good too. I highly recommend the chicken schnitzel.
Ambience: loud, vivacious, vibrant, happy, cheerful, great for drinks after work
Beer: I'm not usually a beer fan, but the range and calibre of fruit biers here really takes it to the next level. Definitely try the fruit biers!
Food:
- Waffle fries: You have not had waffle fries until you've come to Heritage Belgian Beer Cafe. Very generous serving of waffle fries that is well good between 2-3 people.
- Belgian fries: Yum
Slight downsides: Service gets bombarded so sometimes they forget. And definitely be prepared to wait a while before you get a seat.
Great value restaurant close to Circular Quay. Decent range of beers and the mains are decently sized. The mussels and Chicken Vol Au Vont are a must try. Went on a Friday night and it was packed however this added to the atmosphere of the restaurant. Recommend booking ahead if going on Friday or Saturday.
Service was decent considering how busy the place was.
Large restaurant with great selection of beers. The staff were very knowledgeable, particularly on the beers on offer and the recommendations made were great and very helpful. (Thank you to our waitress for her beer recommendation of the 2015 best beer in the world)
The food was good value for money considering Sydney's higher cost of living and tasty, too.
Would recommend, and would definitely return.
Had a very lovely waitress who clearly had an excellent understanding of beer and made some great recommendations. The food was delicious, affordable and the staff very welcoming.
Next time you want to have a good meal in The Rocks but don’t want to battle the crowds, I suggest visiting the Heritage Belgian Beer Cafe. Located on the quiet Harrington Street behind the hustle and bustle of the main streets and alleyways of The Rocks, they specialise in imported European beers but also do a roaring trade in moules frites – pots of mussels served with Belgian fries.
Damn fine seafood. Consistently great mussels, Never more than three closed in a bowl. The blue cheese is a favourite as its the best to dip your chips in.
Mussels are one those foods I discovered later in life and quickly became a favourite. It’s quite funny that having lived on both ends of the world, Sydney and Amsterdam, in a completely different climate, the mussels in both cities have there own style. In the western Europe region cream based mussels are the way to go, while in warm weather cities you rather have something a bit more fresh. Going to the Heritage Belgian Beer cafe is like being back in Europe, it’s just like a “Grand Cafe” on a square in Antwerp or Haarlem (10 points if you know where this city is).
I love mussels, and surprisingly they are a relatively new thing for me, I have really only started to eat them over the past 4 years. I found generally they were a very unappetising part of a seafood platter, chewy and pretty unimpressive, so didn't vent

The Rocks has a new watering hole for beer connoisseurs with Sydney hotel group, Gallagher Hotels, relaunching The Heritage Bar and Restaurant as Belgian Beer Café Heritage. With Belgian beers like Hoegaarden, Leffe Blonde, Leffe Brune, Stella Artois and Belle-Vue Kriek available on tap on tap, authentic Belgian dishes coming out of the kitchen and warm European hospitality, it's the kind of place where every meal should be accompanied by a beer.
Long wait times for food. Staff not very friendly or helpful. Food was great, bit enough to make me want to go back but worth trying (If your not in a hurry)
Great social atmosphere! ki.... Great social atmosphere!
kinda expensive .. but great experience
Content. Great steak and selection of beer!
Had dinner here yesterday, kudos to the Portugese waiter, very professional and attentive. Yum beers, mussels and schnitzel. Felt like we were in Belgium indeed!
A decent place. The Belgian Beer Cafe is a wonderful reflection of an old brown cafe of Brussels. The food is reasonable,if a bit expensive but are given in large portions and the beer is tremendous. The old saying is Belgian food is French quality in German quantity.
The quality of beer on offer here surpasses any establishment nearby. This is reason enough to visit as many beers offered here cannot be found anywhere else in Australia.
Sante!
Great beer, good food, decent service. A meal and a couple of beers can easily break the bank though.
Book early for 1/2 price mussels in Wednesday's. They are so delicious, and the beers are amazing.
Beautiful mussels and great beer
