Review Devine Food And Wine - Sydney

Great service and great food. We ordered pappardelle and the spicy salami pizza with two glasses of wine. Beautiful calm atmosphere. Amazing selection of wines and other drinks.

Surprisingly good pasta! And a great variety in their wine selection. The location and atmosphere might be better for a lunch date rather than a romantic dinner It is a tad more pricey

Had a wonderful experience at DeVine. You can tell that it’s run by the owners who are always working in the restaurant. We had a big birthday celebration for my sisters 50th birthday. Organisation of the night was seamless from very good menu choice to stunning wine selection. Service was perfect and the food delicious on the night. Highly recommend for a big party, small intimate dinner or a just wine and cheese platter in the bar.

Great spot with a wide selection of wines and delicious pizzas! I came for the pate and got a free refill of bread! Loved the great service and vibes, will definitely be back.

One of the best restaurant in Sydney. Food quality is amazing. Service spot on. Patrick our waiter knows his staff so well. We had 3 drink. Beer, white wine and red wine. Every suggestion Patrick made was just spot in, blended with our food so good. Highly recommended.

My partner and I had such a wonderful evening at De vine! We were greeted with a warm welcome and attended to throughout the evening with warmth. We had the meatballs and Oysters to start. For Mains we had the 2 steaks and a bottle of Organic red wine. The steak was so succulent and perfectly cooked. We had the owner personally come over to the table to assist us with the selection of our wine and our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating. To dine at Devine Food and Wine is an absolute Mediterranean adventure and I would recommend to anyone! We have already been twice and can’t wait to go again. Thank you to all of you!

Delicious food and fabulous service. Very cosy restaurant and packed of an evening.

It maybe 10 years since I was here last, but it remains as excellent as always in every way. The food, the wine list, the ambience, the staff and the service are all a credit to this delightful as ever establishment. One of my favourite go to places in Sydney’s CBD - a total institution. Whether it’s nipping in for wine and oysters or settling in for a full meal, De Vine never disappoints. Thank you!

What do you say about a restuarant that has poor customer service & finding foreign matter on your complementary dish. I took 2 of my girlfriends out for dinner tonight & it turn out to be the worst experience of our life. I found a thick piece of cotton tread in our dip. When i ask the owner how did this happen he stood there making excuses & oblivious of what happening. Not only his defensive of the food standard coming out from his own kitchen his also very rude to his customers. His excuse was "lucky its not a hair". Then i proceed on asking him don't you check the food that comes out from your kitchen before serving it to your customers. It doesnt make me feel welcoming when i have a piece of tread in our complementary dish. He continue on saying "its just a piece of tread, its not a hair. It might have fell off of one of our staff uniform". Okay this comment makes it even worst & we havent even started on our entree. Can i ask what type of uniform do you have your staff wearing when their uniform is falling apart.Thank bloody god we didnt choke on it. Unhygienic food handling and preparation is very poor. All i can say i will never go back to this restaurant again and won't be recommending it.

HORROR restaurant experience - on my birthday! Booked DeVine for a milestone birthday dinner with three friends. The night involved - 1) a man (who I later found out was the manager’s friend) exposing himself to me in the bathrooms after telling me (incorrectly) that the female restrooms were not working and I needed to use the males. This was followed by 2) having two huge glasses of red wine spilled on my baby blue coat. On both occasions the manager seemed very nonchalant and I had to really press the issue of him dry cleaning my beautiful (ruined) jacket. When I returned the following week to get my jacket, the bar tender was so friendly and apologetic. The manager, again, seemed rather put out by the whole thing. I was incredibly disappointed and surprised by how the whole situation was handled. The food was good but if this is how they treat their guests it is not somewhere I’d return.

The staff are helpful and professional. The food service is very good and the staff recommend wine that would accompany food on request. On my next visit to Sydney I willl definitely be coming back to this place.

The Izzillo brothers are back on the Sydney CBD map in a big way. Massive and well structured wine list paired with sharp and intuitive service. Personality and casual professionalism ensure customers are at ease. Interesting and approachable menu. Definitely worth a visit. And more than likely a weekly repeat visit.

I had a wonderful meal with superb accompanying wines by the glass (ahh that Chablis...). Food (linguini) was excellent. Thoughtful service with good recommendations from David the waiter and a warm professional overview from the manager. A welcoming refuge for me as a solo diner this evening- the perfect antidote to a busy conference.

We loved the wine and the food, but we adored our waitress - Cetura. Would highly recommend! :)

What a bar!!!!!! Fantastic atmosphere, great selection of wines, superb food & wonderful staff!!!! Highly recommend!!!!

One of my favourites - consistently great service, food and ambience. To quote my Italian food connoisseur friend "the best risotto I have ever had"
Flora Spencer
Wonderful ambiance, fresh and flavourful food prepared to perfection and beautifully attentive, perfectly-mannered staff. Will definitely be back! :-)

Such a fun night. This place has it all - wine, food and atmosphere. It may well become our every Friday night spot!

A fabulous wine bar/restaurant with a great atmosphere. The fig and prosciutto starter is amazing as is the chocolate dessert. Very Friendly and attentive staff.

Wine was opened too long and tried a couple but paid quite a good price and they were fairly awful.

Had dinner at Devine recently & all I can say is WOW! The food was incredible (had the TAPAS menu). Didn't even get around to the wine(too busy enjoying the food), but will do next time. The separate rooms r a gr8 idea too, for peaceful dining without noise. Can't wait to return! Loved it! :)

In true Italian fashion the menu is divided into starters, carbs, mains and sides. We decided to share an antipasto board ($38 for two people) as entree. It was such a generous portion with a selected cured meat and mozzarella we had to take a break before conquering the main course. The mozzarella is as fresh and creamy as it gets, it ticks all the boxes.

Miserable staff, no vibe, over priced, such a disappointment we had been recommended to this place and were so excited to try. The wine was divine but u need a full experience I believe ...

Nice ambience and comfortable seating and a fantastic antipasto board. The zucchini relish and buffalo mozzarella were great! There was complimentary focaccia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar provided as well. Friendly service too!

My partner and I came here for Friday night dinner after work. It was a loud, vivacious setting with lots of bottles of wine on display across the walls. The service was attentive and welcoming.

We ordered from the menu including:
- an entree which consisting of polenta fries,
- mains including Gnocchi and Lamb Orecchiette,
- a side to share which was rosemary potatoes
- and a glass of red each

We came here on a spur-the-moment type of decision, and with Dimmi offering 20% off our food bill, we couldn’t resist booking it. The only thing I was not pleased about was the ambience (it was very loud inside) but the service and food override that issue. The positive reviews measure up, and the food and service was so good, I’d definitely consider coming back here and paying full price next time.

If you don't want to get charged $9 for tap water for two people don't bother trying this mediocre restaurant! The waitress didn't want us to see the bill properly coz she knew charging us $9 for water was wrong. I didn't have time to argue so ended up paying all. But well you won't see me again for sure.

This is the third time we've been here, and the first time we've eaten in the restaurant at the back (because we were four people rather than two). It never fails to please. Great food, comprehensive wine list, and friendly, professional service.
Nola
Loved it. Great service. Place really buzzing. Very mixed crowd from hipsters to grandmas. Service excellent food good. Wine brilliant.

Had lunch here to celebrate a mate's promotion. Entrees were fine (oysters and croquettes). Mains were terrible. There was a 50 minute wait from Entrees to Main (in a half empty restaurant). To top it off, a medium rare order for the Rib-eye ($44) came out rare to blue-rare, yet the steak surfaces were burnt - probably because the order came out so late and was rushed. So we ended up eating a burnt, very rare steak (no time to send it back as we were already late for meetings), and had a most unpleasant experience. I left more than half of it untouched.

I will not be recommending this place to anyone.
Prawnyha
Service, food, wine and atosphere all lovely. I loved the large selection of entree/ tapas styled dishes available. Which was great for sharing. No need to order mains. Just order a stack of tapas.

Business lunch here today.
As always friendly and very accommodating service.
The wines here a really a standout. Tell the sommelier your preferred style and I pretty much guarantee you will not be disappointed by the recommendation - I never have. Had a beautiful Shiraz today, everyone was happy.
The pork belly special was so good, and as always side vege was perfect.
Love this place.
JMAC N CHEESE
Devine is exactly that - Devine! What an extensive wine list, we had the most beautiful Sav paired with our pizzas ; the ambiance is unbeatable. Such a hidden gem in a busy location - if you're looking to impress a special someone, this is the place to go. Simply gorgeous with attentive professional service.
Kis The Cook
Great wine list, cocktails and menu.
Service is on point. The venue is cosy and romantic with the bare brick walls.
Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Excellent service and top end in some dishes such as the fish and lamb. There is a warm atmosphere resplendent in dark wood and dim lighting which is appealing. Some dishes need a lot of work such as the very average and grossly under serving of antipasto - felt like a supermarket deli! Wines are extremely pricey and there are basically no bottles under $60!! From the outside on the street you would think this is a very average eatery so it really needs to create a statement for what they charge when you enter through the doors.
Hok Lee
one of the best intimate eateries in the CBD. Lots of ambience and food was amazing. Took the wife here recently and never fails to deliver.
Zoe Renee Cooper-Sharan
We had the school prawns as a starter to share, steak and prawn & calamari risotto for mains with a side of fries then shared the rhubarb crumble for dessert. One observation is they're very heavy handed with the salt. The steak and risotto weren't inedible by any stretch of the imagination but there were many pauses and swigs of water while consuming the mains. One beer and two wines saw the total bill $150.
Retrodaze
Despite being on the busy intersection of Clarence and Market St, this cosy wine bar has a relatively unassuming brick façade which made me think that it was an ordinary pub. Until one day, a friend took me there for a Friday night drink and I discovered that it was in fact, a very charming wine bar with a small restaurant in the back.
BrokenLense
The selection of Australian, Italian and French Cheese was also well priced and served us well through the course of the drop. There was a good variety that complimented our choice in wine well and bread was restocked by the polite and prompt staff when running low. It's a great wine bar and quickly filled up w

Goats Cheese, Prosciutto and Crisp Rocket Pizza. Since this place is across the road from my office, I frequent this place for catch up lunches, and also dinner and drinks after work. Every time I come here I am delighted by the great range of wine and simple but tasty food.

This particular Monday night I caught up with my girlfriend at the ‘bar’ area. I wanted some cider which they were out of...too bad and I don’t blame them as they are a wine bar not a brewery, but this night I felt like something crisp and light, so I had a beer recommended by the waiter, which I really enjoyed.

We had the Goats Cheese, Prosciutto & Crisp Rocket pizza $18 and an Antipasto to Share $34. The pizza base was thin and crispy, whilst the toppings were delightfully tasty; the warm creamy goats cheese and the saltiness of prosciutto was a match made in heaven. That with a couple of glasses of drinks, the total came to around $140 for two (including tip), which was worth every money. Totally satisfied with the service and food.
The pizza was so amazing that I have not stopped raving about it in the office ever since!

Thank you for another wonderful night, will see you again soon.

Still good after all these years.....

I have eaten here many times but this time alone. Love good wine by glass...spend good money... So why do I get the kitchen glasses ? Pathetic and disappointing. Don't women 60+ who pay for themselves have the right to good glassware too? A shock. Lucky I did not order my usual Barolo at $22 per glass.

Have visited this wine bar twice on trips to Sydney and love the wine selection, especially unusual wines. Ate here last time and tapas food really good. If you like good wine, food and atmosphere, this is the place.

For Wine Lovers. Sadly unlike my title I am not a wine lover. I came to this place for a catch up with a few friends, you can expect and extensive wine list, with so much variety even some of the waiters can't help you. The service is great, occasionally they will let you try small samples in case you weren't sure of popping a bottle. Great atmosphere and lighting for an intimate gathering. The food is decent, highly recommend the duck pate, not as salty as others I've had. They offer you generous servings of bread.

Was visiting Sydney for work and found this place near to my hotel as I was dining alone but wanted something reasonably nice. It was a Friday night and the place was full of energy which was really welcoming. I was greeted quickly by a friendly waiter and he found me a lovely table in the restaurant away from the rather load bar area that I entered through. Unfortunately, the waitress that was obviously supposed to be looking after me all but ignored me all night. I suspect she won't last long as I had to ask other waitstaff a number of times for various things - more water, another wine, cutlery, a napkin - and each time the person that I asked seemed mortified that I either didn't already have the item or that I hadn't been preemptively offered it.

I had two glasses of Sangiovese, beef carpaccio for entree and the prawn penne for main. All was delicious and came to about $80 all up which I was happy with.

I might be back but probably wouldn't seek this place out again given the hit and miss service experience.

You can enjoy a sophisticated glass or two at the wine bar whilst you oggle at the numerous bottles of wine around you, or if the delicious aroma coming from the kithen is too much to bare you can step into the moody and intimate lighting of the restaurant.
I had researched a few of their special Italian dishes on FB which looked enticing, hearty and full of flavour only to find that they didn't offer any of them at the moment. I ordered a new pasta special instead as it read well.
The disappointment continued; the mushroom dip and bread starter was bland, the Lamb cutlets were too fatty and under seasoned and i almost cried when I saw my pasta. I expected a rich piping hot italian pasta dish with flavour, colour, a decent amount of sauce and succulent chicken.. My food looked and tasted like packet pasta, packet peas, dry chicken and a splash of watery liquid both lacking any kind of seasoning. After asking it to be sent back for some more of whatever sauce is supposed to be there.. or even a completely different white creamy sauce to make it enjoyable, it returned exactly the same but warmer and with another teaspoon of watery liquid. Heartbroken I piled on salt, leftover sauce from my brothers meal and shoveled the pasta down for my growling stomach. I hated wasting carbs on pub grade food.
The plus side; my friend had the rib eye or the tenderloin which looked hearty and tasty, the italian wine choice is exciting and the desert tasting platter was sweet and very enjoyable.

Awesome food, awesome service. Went there with the dimmi deal, wouldn't have been as happy paying full price but the meals were delicious, manager was friendly and not obnoxious with our wine selection and the other waiters were fast too. Also automatically took the dimmi discount off the bill for us so no hassle or nagging. Awesome!
THEJUGERNAUTS
Awesome meal. Had a lunch with 5 and we had a great time here. Food was delicious and the lamb was especially good. Wish the pannacotta was passionfruit as mentioned on the website as the mango one tasted like a mangopancake you ate at yumcha. Otherwise, from oysters, to prawns, to gnocchi, meatballs, lamb, veal, pasta.. all fantastic! A++ Service was friendly and easy

Always, always, this place never fails to deliver! Some wine bars have good wines and over-deliver on too nouveau, far-too-funky natural wines (done to death), but Andreas always backs his own wines. they range from mild and subtle or aromatic to downright far out and interesting! He is a great sommelier with vision and the balls to put different things out there that just taste so bloody good! And I know - I'm a winemaker, I like artistic wines.

Dined here tonight and both my better half and I said we would return to taste the wide range of wines available by the glass but we wouldn't return for the food. The food was quite bland and disappointing.Food and wine should complement each other and one shouldn't over power the other but the food shouldn't be so bland. We found the whiting (small plate) was tasteless as was the accompanying lemon dressing. The beef tenderloin similarly lacked flavour. The veal meatballs with orecchiette was OK but still needed a little oomph. So, come for the wonderful wine but not the food.
EatingGuy
Disappointing food, excellent wine list, patchy and at times surly service. Braised rabbit salad had a bone in it and lacked seasoning, braised veal ragout was undercooked so near was dry and tough.
The Hungry Runner
Restaraunt Romance (pity about the company...). I've been to DeVine twice recently, and both times walked out very satisfied. The first was with a mate (ie a man date) and we worked our way through the tapas menu (the oysters and the quail were my picks). Add a couple of beers, a nice bottle of red, a lovely French-speaking waitress, a smaller-than-expected bill, together with candle-lit ambience and my mate was starting to give me the eye. Easy tiger, you're too hairy for me.

The second visit was solo, and I was able to concentrate more on the food and wine than the banter with my mate. The outcome, I was equally impressed, probably more so. I started with the grilled king prawns, moved on to the succulent duck breast gnocci and finished with the warm banana pudding. Not that I needed dessert, by this stage I looked like Little Jack Horner, but oh was it gooood! I accompanied each course with a beautiful glass of red, then dessert wine and I'm now basking in guilt free indulgence knowing that I'll burn it off tomorrow. Pity I don't have a date to rub my turgid belly as I fall asleep. Anyway, nuff said, get on the Devine gravy train!

8 people, 8 appetites, all deliriously happy.. We'll be back! Highlights ... Warm banana pudding, baby calamari, ocean trout, crème brûlée, beef medallions.... And then there was the winelist!
Jel
Wine list is great, as are olives & bar tapas. But the restaurant food is overpriced for average quality - nothing special. The desserts on either side looked spectacular so despite our mains being nothing special, we ordered dessert. Unfortunately the pear tart with vanilla ice cream was so banal we sent it back. I've never done that before. The ice cream was not creamy, but more like diet gelato, but without any nice texture and with overpowering vanilla taste (& Vanilla ice cream is my favourite!); it was sitting on small squares of unripe melon. The pear tart was crunchy slices of pear in a caramel sauce loosely piled on top of a thin soggy biscuit. Yuck!! The waitress, who was lovely, said the chef never believes her when she has to return food. It seems that arrogance as well as poor chef skills are his fault. I recommend that you don't eat dinner there, but just enjoy a glass of wine and then go somewhere nice for dinner that justifies the price.

Great atmosphere friendly staff good food and a sensational wine list by the glass and the bottle.
