Review Nung Len - Sydney

Dimly lit ambience, nice private seating areas. The staff were friendly. We ordered a beef cashew stir fry, drunken vege tofu noodles, massaman beef curry, papaya salad, rice and roti. The roti were soft floppy and not flakey, not the best. There wasn’t much beef in the massamam was a tad bland, usually its a bit sweeter to taste. The drunken noodles were nondescript, felt generic and didn’t taste like much. The beef in the cashew stir fry were huge but chewy cuts, it was difficult to eat, but the sauce was nice in the stir fry. The papaya salad was fresh, and spicy, we got medium and the heat was tolerable. Everything was presented well but lacked punch and finesse

A moody, almost too dark in places to read properly.... But this doesn't detract. It enhances the experience of a quiet meal. The staff are, as expected, efficient and helpful.... It would be completely contrary to find different. Yes, the walls are a darkish almost maroon colour, but earthy calming and inviting. Some beautiful original art (by the owner I'm led to believe) toned in tune with the earthy undertones, with understated gold and silver, the pic attached does not do it justice..... and some traditional Thai prints grace the walls, The food was excellent. Entree this evening was the Thai prawn and pork spring rolls, with the obligatory sweet chilli dipping sauce... The rolls were much better than expected; if they weren't hand made, they could have been. Delicious and full of flavours... Unlike most of the rubbish served in most Asian restaurants. Mains did come along slightly quickly, after entree, but I guess the way of the world. I chose the Holy pork. Twice cooked with fresh basil and chilli. Truly delicious with vibrant and dynamic flavours made even more delicious with the sauce, the crispy pork bits, and crunchy wok tossed veges. A wonderful gentle evening, enjoyed with the Chain of Ponds Novello rosé .... No room for dessert, but if I did, it would be the black sticky rice - not everyone's first pick, but it should be - I've had enough rice tonight.....I chose some lychee ice cream. This tasted home made. I'm likely wrong, all things considered. Not a vanilla bean in sight or taste. If you visit, I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Something primal happens when you taste something out of this world. You start a mental accounting of how much food is left and grimace at sharing with loved ones. I got paleolithic at the first bite. We got a few simple vegan dishes. Tom yum fried rice, pad see ewe, springers and a veggie dish to feel emotionally better. The flavour from the rice and pad were phenomenonal. You can tell they knew what they were doing by the dark caramelisation in the noodles and rice, the vegetables were crispy. Their 'wok hei' was Jedi. The only let down were the springers. They didn't taste like much. The rest have just made it to heavy rotation.

If I could give 10 stars I would! Not only the food was amazing and authentic, but the service was impeccable and homely. It's not often that you come across genuine customer service these days. These beautiful people treat you like you are at their home. Glad we found this place and can't wait to go back again soon.

This restaurant was a great find… I had a function in the area and found this place on Google.. Loved everything about it…The Food was absolutely delicious, the prices were fantastic and it was BYO.. 100% Recommend this place !! It’s a little too far from home for me to return but if I’m in the area…DEFINITELY will be back. Sorry, no pic’s, went with a group of 5, we were having such a brilliant time, I forgot to take photos.

I've been getting their lunchtime $10 specials fairly often for several years when it was known as Opium Den and since known as Nung Len, and I'm not sure if I will go back there very often now. For me, I usually like to order green curry chicken, stir fry satay dish or Pad Thai. This restaurant used to be terrific. There was a nice amount of heat in the (curry or satay) dishes and not watered down like some do. However, the last few times we've ordered the lunch special - which is now $12 (that's ok as due to Covid, can understand the difficulties and price rise), but now am also charged for eftpos (savings, not a credit card) when paying, a nominal amount admittedly, but still shouldn't be charged for eftpos!? who does that anywhere else?! The take-away containers being used now have dividers - one side for the dish, the other for the rice and the portions really are now more skimpy. The taste is still pretty good with the green curry, but hardly get any chicken in it anymore and the rice doesn't quite fill out the other side of the container. The value isn't quite there the same as before. The Pad Thai was still quite good but is not as great as when it was known as the Opium Den - the Pad Thai sauce back then was gorgeous! (my friends / colleagues would say it was the best we had ever tasted). All in all, it's probably still a great restaurant and I can't comment on dinners as I only had dinner there once a few years ago, but the lunchbox specials are not quite as good as previously.

Good quality food, good customer service. I'm a fan of the lunch special which was $10, and was unjustifiably increased to $12, and THEN they added a credit card surcharge on top of that! Talk about rip off your customers!!!!!! So disappointing. I've stopped going multiple times a week now and only go once a month. So sad.

I went to this Thai restaurant for lunch today and had one of its specials. The dish was appalling and insulting on its size. Basically consisted of a spoonful of steamed rice another of satay sauce and 4 sparse leaned 2cm x 2 cm size of sliced chicken. I knew it was only 12 dollars but still a waste of money. Think of donating that money to a good cause before throwing it into a poor lunch.

Ordered thru ubereats and was so disappointed. Pad thai tastes really bad with not enough flavours. Fried rice tastes ok but still lacks of that tom yum flavour. The soup is like 17$ hahaha and it came with 3 prawns... Bad experience!

Great food, staff and ambience. Food was delicious and full of well balanced flavoured dishes. Celebrated a birthday that was accommodating. Will come back!

Friendly service, BYO, delicious food, and nice decor. Can't get better than this for a local Thai restaurant. You can get starters, a few mains and BYO wine for a delicious and cheap dinner out.

Amazing Thai food with BYO wine. We dined as a large group and found the banquet options worked perfectly. For only $42 per person we had dumplings, san choy bau, satay, spring rolls, calamari, curry, noodles, stir fry, fish and rice. Every dish was delicious and there was plenty of food. The restaurant is equally good for couples as the lighting and decor make me a romantic mood. Will definitely visit again!
