Been coming here 20 years.
Best pub in Sydney.
Awesome service
Awesome food
Only place with decent pool Tables on north shore.
In all my late nights here, I have never felt threatened, unsafe or worried. The staff eradicate drunk people before you know it.
I've been asked myself after dinner with hubby and a bottle of wine, was I ok?
I've never ever had a single threatening or drunk issue here. What's this issue going on with licensing????????
Superb place for either food or a drink. Huge options for seating, including child free bar area, great atmosphere and really excellent staff. Been living in Neutral Bay for a month and this place in now firmly a local favourite. Food options and quality are also excellent.
Had the Steak sandwich and chips it was very nicely cooked an great value for money, the beer garden was the place to be on a Sunday afternoon and great to see everybody where talking to each other enjoying the loverly afternoon..
Exceptional service by staff and managers. Sujan was very accomidating in the beer garden. Brittany upstairs has out standing customer service. Hats off to excellent management
Totally great place 2 mins from where I lived. I really miss Sydney and Neutral Bay. Australia = best place on earth!
This is an iconic place with great vibes. Huge oak tree in the outside courtyard, a good place to hang out in the summer. . The menu is a bit on the pricey side for what you get.. pictured is the mushroom pizza and barramundi.
Lovely steak and pasta. Good wine menu too, but didnt have all the wines in stock. Otherwise would have been a five for a lovely dining experience.
A great location for a casual catch up, drinks and a meal. The large outdoor courtyard sparkles at night, with the branches of the giant oak tree lit up with fairy lights. Expect to queue for drinks and food orders on a Saturday night but the crowd is chill and service is friendly.
Beautiful place at night, amazing atmosphere. Big open space for outdoor seating, and the drinks are good too! Will try more food next time.
Friends of ours that live in the area took us here as they love it!
Great venue with a beautiful oak tree to dine under in the courtyard.
Menu selection is certainly what you would expect from a pub and all our meals couldn’t be faulted.
Look forward to returning sometime again in the future.
Came here a while back and came across these pictures in my album. Oaks has great service and a great vibe to it. The food was pretty tasty and it’s a great place to catch up with friends. We ordered the tomahawk, kilpatrick oysters and chips with shredded salmon. The tomahawk was pretty tasty - at 1.2kg my partner and I chowed this down with ease. We even got a hat in spirit of conquering the tomahawk. If you love meat I’d recommend eating at this joint.
This place is great. Specially their outside sitting arrangements at night. All glittery. Friendly atmosphere. We went there on valentine's day, wasn't that crowded. Enjoyed our time there!
Really nice bar with great outdoor seating area under a big oak tree. The food and drinks are quite overpriced, but it does have a cool atmosphere. It is quite difficult to get a seat/table in the outdoor area. Really large indoor areas, that have a lot of character as well
I never thought about going to this pub as it looks very ‘masculine’ from the outside...my boyfriend suggested it quite a few times and then we finally went for dinner. I was very surprised after I walked into the pub - it’s spacious and full of ppl (families & friends gatherings) the food was delicious too. I was happy with my drinks, pasta & pizza : ) More important, it has a big & beautiful backyard with a large Oak tree covered by fairy lights at night!!!
Awesome place to hang out with friends. We came late. So, we had only these awesome pizza. You should the steak here. It’s awesome..............
Who can resist nice tomahawk steak?
Well, you can find nice range of steak here, and the tomahawk is one of them.
Good steak accompanied with crunchy potatoes and green bean, is worth to try for meat lover.
Some more at outdoor sitting, the have LCD light wrapping the famous oaks tree, will leave you happy feeling.
Need I say anything!?
The spot to be on a Friday night after work. Food here is great quality, actually caught me by surprise, great value for your buck!
Outside area has the iconic oak tree, covered in glistening lights. The interior has a woody western modern feel.
Why wouldn't I come back to this fine establishment huh?
A Sydney pub institution!
Multiple spaces/area's provide everything from intimate/romantic dinners, to family friendly lunches under the massive Oak tree, to a game of pool (or disco boogie) with mates in one of the upstairs rooms.
Food options are at the upper end of 'pub-grub' with quality steaks, burgers, seafood, and vegetarian options all on the menu. To help keep the F&B wheels spinning, punters need to order, and collect, their food from the kitchen area - not a biggie, as it is a pub (not a full service restaurant) and tables are cleared/cleaned in super fast times.
Beverage-wise, theres a solid selection of wine, and a decent smattering of craft beer.
I went here in 2014 when I was in Sydney for a short trip and this was one of the most memorable places, I had visited. The food is okish, The beer is good but the atmosphere is very good.
Its been quite famous for a while and it shows.
Great place to go on Thursdays when crowd is just about right.
I was here for my dinner, I ordered rib eye and with a chips as side. Food is ok, service of coz not as expected. It's like a food-court style. U order at counter, buy drink at bar then you will get a receiver then wait for it beeping and go collect food by yourself.
Food --ok
Service--NIL
Great hang out place to chill with mates over some drinks. Food is delicious, sometimes the wait can be long though as it gets quite busy especially on weekends and Friday nights.
We headee to The Oaks Hotel in Neutral Bay for their ‘Pirate Life’ Beer dinner. Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming events at , they host an amazing array of events. The dinner was held in the bright open function space, The Garden Pavilion. With an outlook to one of Sydney’s most iconic beer gardens with their famous Oak tree decorated with fairy lights, a truly spectacular setting to be matched by what was ahead.
Really awesome vibe, the pub is massive and you can totally forget that if you just view it from the outside.
There are sections that make you feel like you're completely separated from the other parts of the building, each with their own respective vibe and theme.
As a Odd on the side note, I can also vouch that the toilets are pretty good and not in that completely offputting condition that some pubs have.
The downside to the awesome space is that staff are a bit meh, flat and really just trying to churn you in and out (it's busy so I guess fair enough) and the food is a little on the pricey side plus it's very ordinary for the price too, maybe that was cos it was busy, but still. Otherwise, it's a great space with a killer atmosphere and it certainly draws in the crowds.
[Invite] We’ve been to The Oaks a couple of times over the years and this Neutral Bay Grand Pub with their famous 1500+ fairy lights Oaks Tree is a popularist joint. It’s a Monday night and their rather large beer garden is packed with guests; and its a chilly winters night. The locale with great pub eats continue to impress with their event styled Dinners. Tonight is a multiple courser Low and Slow dinner with Chef Roy Ner and Danny Russo behind the pans and Matched Wines from Ross Hills Wines.
Their sparkly beer garden actually makes me excited for the winter months to roll in, as it is like leaving Sydney for a while and entering into a European style cosy land. I adore this place, its just such a weird location!
We had two different pizzas and liked them both very much, the service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere very welcoming, days are more casual than evenings.
Lovely local spot for a nice quality meal and beer (however expect to pay odd amounts for drinks, $8.60 for a schooner of VB is highway robbery)
Enjoyed the Buttermilk chicken burger, absolute favourite for myself, however stay clear of the pork belly burger. When we tried it, both the flavour and texture was completely wrong, inedible, however they replaced my burger for free with something else on the menus which I don't have any qualms about.
Had a few drinks and dinner with a couple of friends to end our weekend. The oaks is a great place to have either a quiet sesh or to start your night before going else where...this was my first time eating there and I was very impressed at the standard in service and food quality!! Everything was cooked to perfection, only complaint is 1 of the meals came out quite a bit before the other 2 meals. Overall great place!
Great place for a Sunday session even in the rain. Wine and food with the girls with a very extensive menu not just pub food but a few great healthy options to! Highly recommend the Radio Boka red wine!!!!
Good pub grub and excellent steaks at moderate but fair prices. The steaks are worth the additional cost, in particular the aged rib eye was superb.
Somewhat cramped inside but if you can get a spot outside you will love it.
Still one of the best beer garden in Sydney in my opinion. The massive tree in the courtyard is the centre piece and the layout pivot around this impressive tree. Many happy memories of mine are produced in this courtyard by the tree over the years. The food can be a bit pricey but the quality is consistently good from pizza to mussel pot. This is a great place for a summer drink!

We were pleasantly surprised when we attended an educational evening of fine meaty fare dedicated to (you guessed it) MEAT. The meat company Haverick Meats, situated at Banksmeadow, supplied the meat. The quality of their produce was all A grade. The gorgeous Oaks Hotel at Neutral Bay was the venue for the evening and each course and was matched beautifully with Bremerton Wines. We were lucky to have the lovely Rebecca Willson, who with her sister Lucy Willson, run the family owned Bremerton Winery, with exemplary wines produced in Langhorne Creek South Australia. Rebecca introduced the wines we were about to be served and gave us a brief background on each variety such as grape, ageing, technique, and processes. They were exquisite wines. We both bought some to take home.
One of Sydney's best beer gardens by far. Great steaks & the rest of the menu is well above average pub grub. Even in hectic busy periods the food & bar service is good.
A Taste of Barossa: Part 2 Cure your appetite with a boozy afternoon at The Oaks Hotel with one of their upcoming sessions . Roast with a selection from their seasonal menu filled with luscious and full-flavoured munchies to pair with your wine.
Fairy lights!!! As soon as I walked out into the courtyard, there was a massive oak tree covered with fairy lights and it simply lit up the entire open space. From then, I was already mesmerised. It's a huge a spacious venue with lively vibes, good food and great drinks! Highly recommended for post-work drinks, catch-ups, boozy lunches, any occasion really!
The Oaks in Neutral Bay is hosting 'A Taste of Barossa' with St Hallett wine, giving you the perfect excuse for a long lunch or a boozy evening. They have crafted a special menu to showcase the finest wine, accompanied with their scrumptious food.
Met with a few colleagues after office. Good bar, great atmosphere and a nice time overall. Had some good steak and wine. Like the place and recommend it.
It was one of the first sunny Sunday's in Sydney and everybody was out and about. The Oaks is L's parents' local, I can now understand why. We got a table outside under the giant oak tree which looked beautiful with its big branches and fresh green leaves. When I saw there were different pots of mussels on the menu I didn't have to look further, I knew what I wanted. L had been talking about fish and chips all day so he was set. L's parents both went with pizza. To start off with we got a dozen Sydney Rock Oysters served with...
The Oaks. We visited earlier with google for a meat masterclass, and later with wasa to check out the new Paul Kelly Designed Garden Pavilion round the back. So what’s the Oaks like now that its refurbished? Its great, the venue feels contemporary and modern, the food is excellent, the focus and attention to the product is ever present and the wait staff are really nice. They just won ‘Best Steak’ in the SMH good pub food guide and its well deserved. Lets have a look. I #secretsofsteak. The front half of the refurbished Oaks by Paul Kelly is richly luxuriant space with tartan carpeting, luxe leather booths, and dark oak furniture. The space feels intimate, trendy and looks great. To the side, there is a large wine cabinet and each zone easily zones 10-20. Lighting used here is contemporary modern incandescents and looks great. The bar at the Oaks here, as noted below serves regular bar drinks but also craft beer on tap. One great thing about The Oaks is that they have craft beers on t
No your eyes are not deceiving you because those steaks really are as big as they actually look in the picture, the tongs were placed for scale. The approx 2kg Tomahawk Steak is a relatively new addition to the menu and The Oaks is one of the few places in Sydney that actually serves it. Since we arrived a little early I was able to have a sneak peek of it being cooked on the outdoors grill, the smell wafting through the outdoor area was so enticing that quite a few people were looking in this direction. When the steak arrived in all it’s glory I was quite impressed about how amazing it looked, the potatoes that are served on the side are cooked in duck fat which made them absolutely divine. The Mighty Tomahawk Assorted Steak Sauces Unfortunately I was so in awe with the steak that had landed in front of me that I missed the waiter pointing out each of the sauc

Fact: The Oaks has just won an award for having the best steak in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Pub Food Guide. We were at The Oaks for a Meat Masterclass being held in a lovely room opening onto the outdoor area and gazing across to their large oak tree. Josh Bradley from Haverick Meats explained everything you'd ever need to know about the different cuts. Then Danny Russo - consultant chef to The Oaks - explained how to

If there’s a better pub steak in Sydney than this Rib-Eye on the Bone ($42) , I haven’t found it. Believe me, this baby is worth the spend, arriving in a mountain of marrowbone, golden spuds and spinach, with anchovy and parsley butter on the side. Danny Russo’s also done wonders for the humble Sausage Roll ($13) served up all traditional-like with mustard and HP . He’s even perked up pub mussels, best Au Congo ($29) with lemongrass, chilli and coconut cream. Russo’s clever adaptations of pub classics parallel the pub’s sensitive phased-renovation. Downstairs you’ll find designer Paul Kelly has given the restaurant a richly red, mid-1930s American steakhouse feel...

I've had many a night out where the company has been fabulous but the food has completely failed to hit the mark. So it was an odd occasion the other night, while in Sydney for a work conference - to have the people we were eating with ruin my night.
Good Place if you're craving for Steak!. Went here last weekend for lunch catch up. Ordered Grass Fed Scotch Fillet 300gr with Peppercorn Sauce. For $27, including chips, salads, condiments, good service, it was one of the nicest lunch I ever had in 2015. My steak came in perfect medium. My friend ordered medium rare and got herself a medium and asked for a change. The service was attentive and polite and the issue was resolved professionally. I could see myself as a regular in near future, if only I didn't live on the other side of the bridge ;)
Phenomenal eye fillet steak. Not much else to say, each visit we never have much need to interact with staff as the food is great.
Great place. The Oaks is looking good it has been refurnished and has a new menu. The Classic Cheese Burger served on a brioche bun is my favourite and the jugs of cocktails are great to share with friends the Pimm's Cup and Ruby Slipper are the best :)
Very nice lamb pizza. A few weeks ago we were here for lunch. It is a child friendly place with an area for the kids to play and put prams.
We had Thai beef salad and lamb pizza both of which were nice.
Nice ambience in the garden with a huge oak tree. The perfect setting for a relaxing weekend meal in the pub. Will be back again....
Good menu and atmosphere, pricey but steak (cook your own) grill is fantastic. Great boys night with pool tables upstairs.
Good pub, food expensive. The Oaks is a good pub, with several different bars each with a unique twist. It has been well kept and is always clean.
The food on the whole is good. The chicken Ceasar salad is large but then it dies cost $23! It's also not consistent. Depending on the day (and I suppose the chef) sometimes it comes with anchovies, sometimes egg, sometimes neither...it really is pot luck. The bowl also normally comes out with greasy finger prints on the rim, which is not very pleasant to look at!
The mussles are good and come with chips and bread!
The cook your own steaks come with salad and a bread roll, so plenty to eat.
My major frustration is the no card policy. This has always been the case at the front bar (backing onto military road) There is a cash machine in that bar so no problems. However, in the restaurant over the last 2 months when an older lady (a bit of a battle axe who really is rude to her younger staff) is on duty she decides that there needs to be a minimum charge of $30 before she will accept your card. When you argue and point out that this is not the case when she's not there she relents, but it really is frustrating particularly when they have 3 EFTPOS machines at that bar.
Vibrant Pub with Great Pizza. Great Pizza, friendly efficient service, love the beer garden, good atmosphere - have been there a few times and will certainly go back.
