Review Cross Eatery - Sydney

Brenden Wood
An excellent atmosphere. Friendly staff. Extremely spacious - plenty of seating and lounges. Good food and coffees. This cafe is very popular. Limited on street parking. Located two blocks west of the GPO.
Jessica Tong
Flaky, toasted pastry with a giant chunk of butter. Excellent batch brew. Friendly staff. Extremely efficient and fast service. Not too crowded at 8:30am.

Great breakfast, great coffee, convenient location, quick service!

Honestly, 100% I fully recommend this cafe. Here is best of best cafe in Sydney. You can have Fantastic and incredibly fresh food and amazing specialty coffee here.

Upscale place and busy from morning. People enjoys chatting, meeting, working on laptop and dining alone. They separate take away queue and eating in so people can order smoothly. I ordered almond croissant and full milk latte. Even many queue they provide fast survice. Taste is great too.

Good meal selection, great coffee and the added benefit of table service. Easy access and good shelter on wet days. Convenient access to Epping Rd buses that leave immediately outside. A good range of seating options providing comfort for different meetings or dining on own.

Great cafe to grab lunch or coffee well located in the Wynyard CBD area. Love their mushroom toastie, salads and homemade nut butter on sourdough toast (on the breakfast menu, but they let me order it for lunch). Decent coffee as well. I always find myself coming back to this place, as service is good and quality consistent. Although the layout is shared tables in an office lobby which can get quite busy, it is a spacious cafe and with its minimalist design, it gives a very comfortable and airy feel.

Cross Eatery has been my designated breakfast place during my three week stay in the summer aka Australian winter. Ordered regularly their home-made granola which came with natural yoghurt and lots of fresh fruit. The yoghurt has the right amount of slight soury taste, just how I like it, and the fruit additions of kiwi, peach and apple have always been fresh and a great addition to the crunchy granola. Staff friendly and coffee tasty. The place is clean and tidy. The seats by the window are great for work. Only downside is, Cross Eatery is like many cafes in CBD closed on the weekend.

I can't say enough about the divine food and the best coffee, staff are always smiling and eager to please, relaxing atmosphere and vibe. It's my regular go to. WARNING: it's very addictive after your first bite and sip....

Outstanding flavours in the salads.. I had the asparagus salad and the beetroot salad, yum!! Nothing bland here, and I'm normally one to steer clear of take away salads.. highly recommend this place.. a little pricey but I've eaten every mouthful!
Tim Jackson
It is one of the best lunches I have eaten in a long time. Beautiful salads and the best coffee!!
Greg Bartlett
Great fresh food. High quality ingredients. Only complaint is that they (like many Aussie cafes) make double shot cappuccino using too long shots (or I suspect one long shot). So you end up with mostly coffee and a bit of fluff on top. Please...2 x 25 ml shots. Still love their food and the ambiance though...:-))

Went here today with my mum to celebrate her birthday, breakfast and coffee was very delicious, thoroughly recommend Cross Eatery. The decor and aumbuance was superb too. Well Done. Breakfast bowl was wonderful <3 xNx

The breakfast roll rocks my world . Sometimes I even ask for it with ham off the bone and they are happy to cater for me. Don't bother going anywhere else in the area- just go direct to cross eatery

Discovered Cross Eatery today while trying to find good lunch options in the area! Easily the best - sweet potato soup with coriander and coconut is delicious! And comes with a huge piece of quality sourdough. Coffee is impressive, and service is fast too.
Jez Hill
Pretty disappointed to turn up at 2:30 to find they were out of food. Then it took them nearly 10 minutes to make my takeaway coffee when no one else was ordering or waiting.
Nicky Nicola Jackson
So much love, care and thought put into each and every element of this place. A delicious feast for all the senses.

Good vibes, cute staff and excellent coffee!

Shoutout to Charlie who put up with my confusing order and rectified any issues when both my chai and bread were wrong. Yay Charlie! Honorable mention to Richard too p.s great food and coffee!
Shannon Mikulski
Amazing food - a good range of tasty salads and love the take away box idea.

Had a fantastic takeaway salad today - I love what you have on offer and will be back

Go there if you are in the mood for a good soup ! Each day they offer 2 different soups, one vegetarian and one not.

Came at 3:40 for a coffee and the lady said it’s fine but that they close at 4pm. Couldn’t really enjoy my coffee properly because she just had to remind me (2 more times after I’ve ordered and paid) that they were closing at 4pm. I left BEFORE 4pm... and there were still other people there.

Such a great venue in handy CBD location. With open space and modern/trendy decor, you can’t miss this place when you pass by. So attractive!
With several large tables available, this place would be a perfect choice to hold a small office meeting too.
During my visit I tried their coffee and it was awesome. Might be back to try their food.
Famishedduo
Great health kick spot right in the centre of CBD! A great selection of options to choose from even a delicious selection of salad (takeaway available). The portions are very reasonable.
Cool Beans Life
With a minimalist design, communal tables and the cutest coffee cups you’ve seen, Cross Eatery is the perfect spot for a coffee or lunch meeting. It’s located within an office building so you’ll see it is frequented by lots of corporate professionals. It’s also within walking distance of Wynyard station.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Great lunch place. Meals are more expensive than some places but it's worth it. The ingredients are beautiful.

I had the roasted mushroom, mozzarella, jalapenos and truffle toastie. The bread was thick cut and nicely toasted, the mushrooms were delicious earthly especially with the truffle and the jalapenos were chopped finely and well distributed throughout the toastie.
Why__dee
Pretty decent coffee and bread here for on-the-go-goers. You can tell they really cater to the everyday 9-5 as their staff is super efficient and alert.

Fresh, modern, beautiful food + amazing coffee. Lunch mains include delicious chicken, fish, pork and vegetarian options and the accompanying salads deserve their own cook book. Service is fast and professional - this place is my go to for yummy food in the city.

The Cross Eatery is a minimalist cafe at ground floor of 155 Clarence Street which features clear, distinct clean lines and a communal setting with large share tables. It might take some time to get used to having another person sitting next to you or eavesdropping at the latest gossip from a stranger working in the same building.

The flat white at Cross Eatery was perfect. Smooth and silky, the velvety foam has a good mixture of espresso and milk and the drink was served at the correct temperature. The salad bowl, on the other hand, was a tad too dry and lacks distinction in taste and texture.
YUXIPANDA
Fresh food, good salad selection and nice environment despite being in the lobby of an office. Share tables mostly at lunch but its usually not a problem, can get a little noisy. Coffee is good!

We went to Cross Eatery for breakfast and it was delicious. We got some crispy sourdough toast with butter and nut butter and ordered an extra poached egg and a half avocado. The chili, oil and fresh dill gave it a nice special flavour. The staff was very friendly except for one girl. That's the only reason i'm not giving it a 5.

Salads for the instagram generation. This place came recommended, so it hurts to say this, but I have to be honest - the value just isn't there. It didn't help to be told when we arrived that they were out of the asparagus salad, the braised lamb and the ham. That might not sound like much, but when your choices are limited to four salads, four proteins and about six sides, you've lost 20% of your menu. We had the salmon gravlax with a wild rice and green bean salad (22), the mushroom salad (8) with a side of pumpkin (7) and a rare beef toastie (15.50). The wild rice salad didn't really taste of much to be honest, and the beetroot-cured salmon gravlax didn't exactly wow me with flavour either. My brother found the rare beef toastie a bit too heavy on the vinegar. I'm starting to think that if you want a good lunch in the CBD, avoid huge beautiful spaces where the rent and the ceilings are sky high, and stick to small holes in the wall who can pump out good food at good value. The salads are decent here, but just roasting some veg and putting it on expensive ceramic crockery shouldn't mean you can charge prices that would leave your grandpa short of breath and reaching for the aspirin. And gramps doesn't have instagram either.

I get my coffee from cross eatery all the time. Tried their breakfast for the first time and was blown away. I had the cross eatery roll. I would recommend everyone to give it a try.
The Next Rush
Came in here to grab my morning juice, and it was lovely. I had apple, seasonal greens, celery and lemon juice. Usually green juices have that slightly garden-like aftertaste, but this was actually really yummy. Was a nice change to my morning coffee.

My work mate also got a carrot, apple, tumeric, lemon and ginger juice. She thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Definitely will be back for more morning juices :)
Constructively Critical
Only if the young waitress realised her childish-ness and lack of professionalism, the experience here would've been much better.
This waitress (young Asian girl with short hair) sat on the edge of our table whilst I was having brunch with a colleague. Umm.. It's just not pleasant to eat whilst seeing a stranger's bum right next to you?

Food was great though.
Winedineslumber
My favourite casual lunch spot in Sydney. The food is delicious, fresh, packed full of ingredients, well balanced and healthy! The soups are next level yum. The space is bright, minimalist and inviting. The service is always super quick and very friendly. Highly recommend.
FoodLuva
Nice place, very open plan, friendly and attentive service. Food delivered to my table within 5 minutes.
Had the slow cooked lamb with 2 salads - broccoli/brussels and beetroot.
Lamb was really nice, tender and flavoursome. The salads though we're ok but drowned with dressing, too much for my liking - overpowers the flavour of the veggies which became indistinguishable. This reduced my enjoyment of the whole meal.
Becesque
Staff are really friendly even though it gets busy during lunch time. I really love the decor and how clean and white everything is. Tried their lamb and beans soup which was super filling.
Coco And Vine
In a city where every nook and space is filled with cosy and intimate cafes, it’s a great to see The Cross Eatery buck that trend with an expansive cafe with an airy space and great light. It’s almost as if the owners have taken a suburban warehouse cafe fit-out and brought it into the city. A timber feature wall contrasts with white ceilings and cabinetry, and Nordic minimalist design. Communal tables are the centrepiece of the cafe but you can also take a seat along the front of the cafe and people watch as corporate types file into work of a morning. The Cross Eatery is located only minutes from Wynyard station and for cyclists, it’s on Clarence Street, home to the best cycle stores in the city.
Nupur Khurana
Highly recommend for coffee and breakfast. A nice and different menu and open sitting area. The place is always buzzing so there might be a waiting period involved if you want to eat in!
Steph L
Really love the décor there..nice simple and rustic. I've been there both for breakfast and lunch...very simple and healthy tasty menu. Coffee is top notch too.
Naomi Rheinberger
I was on an eating mission today and decided today was the day to add cross eatery to my hit list. I love the open plan space and communal benches, it brings a really warm and welcoming ambience when you walk in. Staff great you with a smile and explain the specials of the day and pop around again swiftly offering to take your order.

I had the beetroot salmon with a beetroot and carrot salad scoop and another cashew and goats cheese second salad scoop. It was definitely tasty and flavoursome! It makes even the most salad resistant (like myself) find lunchtime food fulfillment.

Season your morning with a refreshing pot of chai tea to complement your breakfast. Sweeten your palate with the creamy bowl of Wild rice and coconut pudding serve with a generous serving of mango. Mix a bowl of fresh fruit, muesli and yoghurt for that healthy kick start too.
Ningjaeats
A delightful corporate city cafe with an interesting twist to your typical breakfast food. I had the coconut rice pudding with mango which was really quite tasty.
Nourishment Bowl
Love this place in the middle of the CBD. Tucked into a foyer floor this cafe is surprisingly spacious and very modern. Their menu changes seasonal and are always delicious. What I love about this place is that you can order the salads based on scoops and order different ones. I went for the two scoop, $14 and got the eggplant cabbage salad and the bean and peach salad. It was a big serving and super delicious. Can't wait to come back and try their next salad combos.
Jo Hombsch
Great little spot in the CBD for a healthy lunch. Always seems to be a line, today was the first day I decided to wait it out. Ordering a salad plate with salmon. Very tasty. Slightly overpriced for the size with my cucumber seeming a little off. Amazing coffee.
Allofthefoods
Love this place! I'm bummed I wasn't aware of it until today, being so close to my office. I ordered the brekky bowl which was delicious and fresh & the perfect start to my day. Great flavours, texture and a perfectly poached egg. Will very likely be back here several times a week.
MSGCafeteria
After multiple recommendations from friends, Cross Eatery has been on my "must-visit" list for some time and on a rare day off, I decided to head out to the Sydney CBD to check it out. Cross Eatery is located in the back streets of Wynyard and if it weren't for the crowds lingering outside, I probably would have missed it. The entrance is lined by enormous glass windows and appears to be located inside a corporate building foyer - airy with a crisp white backdrop.
The Other Jess Tuck
Ignore the negative nancy's, definitely give this place a go. My go to for breakfast when in Sydney and it always delivers. Delicious kombucha and coffee to kickstart the morning. Service is always friendly. Baked eggs in the past have been fantastic and the recent kale brekky bowl definitely was a great start to the day.

A big thumbs up for Cross Eatery. It is rare to get all components of a cafe right in one place and these guys nailed it. Outstanding menu, great coffee and good service. The beautiful and fresh decor also doesnt go unnoticed.
FitnessFoodie
So disappointed! Was super excited to try this place as I'm a health food (and breakfast) lover.
Firstly, the service is terrible. The staff are arrogant and rude.
The food? Overpriced. The poached eggs came swimming in oil (not so healthy if you ask me.) The oats were cold and didn't have much flavour.
Would not eat here again!

P.s. If you're just ordering takeaway coffee they will NoT be happy if you take a seat while you wait... My friend, on a separate Occassion, got given daggers.
Big wraps for this place. Stylish decor, with tables, high tables and my personal favourite the bar seating on the street facing window. Plenty of polite and attentive service and although on the pricey side for a CBD breakfast a fantastic baked eggs dish served in the cast iron pan. The 63 degree egg makes a return, couple with kale, sheet of cheese and mushroom packed with favour. This is a great breakfast dish. I'm not a big fan of the coffee beans they use as I didn't find it rounded enough for long blacks however I think the robust probably works well with milked coffees. The menu is a little limited with a strong focus on being 'healthy' but that is an observation not a criticism. I will be back for sure.
The Cafe Ninja
Had the 17 hour organic lamb with beans, tahini, mint, almonds and Beetroot leaves and Harissa sweet potato with quinoa black beans and feta. Fabulous. The probiotic tea was also very tasty. Felt healthier with every bite! Piccolo late was a bit like a 3/4 flat white but still good.
Katherine Pham
The cafe offers so many healthy options on their menu and most of them are vegetarian. The salad was fresh but I like to have some meat in it. Cool and chic fit-out.
It's CAKe Time
The Top Line: At the counter, you’ll see lots of fresh produce, sandwiches and quick takeaway breakfasts. It’s a great stop for any busy city worker and if you have a little time, sitting down to enjoy the awesome healthy and fresh food/drinks here is recommended. The Review: Cross eatery is an open plan eatery with light wooden benches in a white foyer area of an office block. The menu was a good size so there was a great variety of choice for whatever mood you’re in, but it didn’t leave you pondering for too long.

Cross Eatery is a perfect lunch spot for the city office crowd, striking a balance between inner west cool and city slick. It is set in a large airy lobby but still manages to feel like a coherent space. The counter food showcases a lot of delicious looking salads, with interesting sounding specials. I tried their zucchini stuffed with bulghar wheat, which delivered plenty of flavour plus the all important 'so healthy it must be good for you' factor. Would definitely come again.
Princess_Porky
Food appears to slant towards the healthy. The flavours were good but there may have been some execution issues as both the dishes we ordered on my first visit had obvious flaws (the sauces in both were excessively watery). The pork sandwich was great (bar it dripping watery sauce) and the brickfields sourdough was fantastic. The coffee (Mecca beans) was excellent. Subsequent visits have been much better. Have tried soup and salads and both were fantastic.

Returned and had soup. Miso mushroom and it was excellent. Alongside more of that fabulous Brickfields sourdough. Coffee was great of course.

Big fan of Cross - the staff are lovely, the food is modern, fresh and tasty AND they have good coffee. I'm from coffee-snob-land (aka Melbourne) so really appreciate the quality here. I was born in Maffra - in East Gippsland, Victoria and was surprised to see Maffra Cheddar on the menu (well, the cheese is amazing so not completely surprised) but surprised that I'd see something on the menu which my Dad used to help produce as a dairy farmer. Awesome little cafe.
Well done Mr Soto! 👍
Race Brunch Repeat
Cross Eatery emits the seasonal produce, healthy vibe more at home in the Inner West. Long tables are a safe-place for a food-loving finance professional - sip a 3/4 latte, munch a breakfast salad whilst after taking iPhone egg-yolk shots. Try this in Martin Place and you'll be arrested. Sydney now boasts a sophisticated brunch at mid-range pricing in an office perimeter. Historically, this is why Melbourne exists. Bowery Lane is no longer my inner-city pick.

Great for a workday lunch treat. Place was bustling at 1pm on a Friday afternoon so much so they had already run out of 17 hour slow cooked lamb. Instead I had pulled pork with roasted cauliflower salad and honey, rosemary pear salad. Pulled pork was really flavorful and tender with a sesame seasoning. The honey rosemary pear salad was outstanding. I loved the compatibility of flavours which really took the salad to a whole new level. Brilliant pairing with the grilled pear and manchego. Topped it all off with a lovely pot of green tea. Although menu options are a little limited, they execute them to perfection. What a great addition to the cbd lunch scene!
Simply Starving
New favourite for a quick lunch time bite in the CBD. Fresh food and quality produce, served by attentive and warm staff. Recommend the Roasted Cauliflower salad and the Kambucha on tap, which is a little steep in price but great!
Davidisfoodiful
Stunning interior, great coffee, stellar customer service and their roasted pumpkin, kale and chilli relish burgers go off! You know you've had a good experience when the way you eat just doesn't match up with your fancy attire. #FingersLicked

The coffee here is from MECCA, so it's safe to assume that it is exceptional. As for service, all were uber friendly and attentive. The food... delicious, healthy and fresh!
Brexy
It's not everyday you come across a cafe that serves 63 degree eggs for breakfast! Delicious.
For lunch I can't go past the soup selection which changes almost daily. The goat and harissa soup is a favourite of mine. It does get very busy from 12-2pm so you will have to wait and the salads disappear quickly. I can't fault the service though.
Phil Tran
Delicious little salad and very quick attentive staff mix together for an overall great takeaway lunch experience at the Cross Eatery. Would come back.
Missklicious
Cross Eatery is a breath of fresh air when it comes to lunching in the Sydney CBD. It's a lovely, huge space in the ground level of 155 Clarence Street; the vibrant salads and casual communal feel reminds me of Kitchen By Mike or Bread & Circus. . There's a easy system as you walk in - order takeaway at the counter, or line up on the right hand side for a table. There's an array of delicious sounding sandwiches, which are perfect for a quick takeaway work lunch.

Most amazing food AND you can split bills. Loved the Brussel sprout salad and the cauliflower one. Grateful the city is starting to finally have more shops cafes
Jules
The breakfast roll is delicious but be warned that it is extremely messy and difficult to eat - make sure to grab a bunch of napkins! Coffee was great and the interior is lovely.
Frankly
This is far from a quiet, cozy spot but oh my, the pearl barley porridge with Madeira pears was just heavenly. Will I be able to tear myself away from it next time to try more of the short but good-looking menu?
Invidiaz
Visited Cross Eatery twice over the course of 7 days for a couple of meetings, this is really conveniently located in the city indeed. Close enough to the office, with a reasonable breakfast selection. It is not overly extensive, I suppose it is good enough for breakfast. Funny thing about breakfast. You can eat the same breakfast for days in a row and not be bothered about it. But if you ate the same dinner for 2 days in a row, well, it’s not like I don’t especially when it comes to hotpot, but certainly not the same ingredients in them. Strange thing breakfast is indeed.
Eating Out Sydney
This is a nice big open space, a cafe in a foyer.. the coffee is worth having, it is nice, really nice. The staff are friendly and this is a mid week lunch spot. The salads are nice and a decent price $12 for 2 scoops.. but they lack a little bit of flavour!!

Holy molly...Finally!. Thank you Cross Eatery, finally a CBD lunch hour destination worthy to speak of ....Amazing coffee and food all delivered with a friendly speedy service to match!

Not so happy. Good food poor customer service

Great Coffee!!!. Best coffee I've had in Sydney! Keep up the good work :)

Awesome food!. I had the Autumn Vegetable & Quinoa Soup, it was amazingly good - served with sour dough bread and an ample amount of butter. I also had cold pressed juice and a coffee. The service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. It was a welcome change to be served food in the CBD that tasted like it was made with love. I really liked the way you can build your own meal from a variety of salad options. cant wait to go there again - I highly recommend it
