Review Yebisu Izakaya - Sydney

John Nelson
Sashimi was fresh with a nice Japanese decore, felt like the traditional settings you'd find in kyoto. Good on tap beer, but seriously over priced for sashimi. If you go with kids don't expect them to cater for mini rolls.

This well-decorated izakaya offers a huge range of food and drinks, conveniently order-able via the mobile device on each table. The food is of good quality but definitely on the expensive side compared to other Japanese restaurants. One cool gimmick here is the alcohol cart that goes around the restaurant. A staff member will offer free samples of numerous brands of sake for promotional purposes.

The food here has always been quite good, but our visit today - we found a new restaurant in place of Yenbosu - Inase Sakaba, which was a much smaller menu and portion sizes, and almost twice as expensive.

Unclear rule for dine-in. We went here on Saturday, and there were heaps of empty tables. The waitress greeted us and took us to a table in the back. We were checking the menu when the same waitress came and said “we have the rule of minimum spending of $40.00 pp”. It wasn’t our plan to spend how much on the meals, but hearing the sudden rule just made us feel uncomfortable to go ahead. We felt upset because there should be a sign or st like that before the guests come in, have a seat and about to order food. Never had a chance to taste the food because we left due to the unclear rule.
Daniel Chan
Not sure if the change of ownership or COVID lockdown, but the restaurant will ask you for a minimum spent of $40 pp. Unfortunately my partner couldn't eat much, so I would have to eat more than I wanted to in order to allow to eat there. Menu also fairly limited with a high price, within City, you will definitely find much cheaper or restaurant with more option than this.

Lack of choice of food, price are too high and food are very small portions. Maybe its a good place to drink and chat with friend but not a good place for dinner.

If you want a Japanese experience, this is the place to go! I went on the 7/1/21 around dinner and this is my review. The service was amazing, especially from the staff member Fusao Nakamura, his service made the whole experience truly enjoyable! He showed my partner and myself around the menus and recommended us the meals that is popular in Japan, he was constantly checking on us and making sure everything is okay. From start to finish he has looked after us on the whole experience. The food was excellent, you can just tell that the food was made with pride and care. All the meals tasted freshly made and full of flavour and presented in such a way you just have to take photos of it to show off to your family and friends, I just wanted to order the whole menu and try everything. The atmosphere of the restaurant just made you feel like you are in Japan and it looked beautiful. The whole restaurant was clean and presentable with great lighting. Once again I would like to thank Fusao Nakamura for the excellent experience! I will definitely be coming back and will be bringing more people. Keep up the fantastic work!

Expensive.. $33 sashimi box, very small and not worth the 30mins waiting time.
Sweet And Sour Fork
Unwilling to shell out for sashimi – I find the quality-to-pricing ratio tends to be relatively unreliable at these mid-range places – I instead settled on the Mixed Aburi Sushi ($18, 6pcs), which had 2 pieces each of salmon, scallop, and kingfish. Let’s talk about the good first; aburi nigiri is popular for a reason, and there’s just no getting around the fact that fish seared with a blowtorch is delicious. Unfortunately the fish was also sliced disappointingly thinly, and was covered in so much mayo that you’d be lucky even to notice the flavour of the fish, never mind the quality. All in all it’s not bad, but I could get the same at Sushi Hotaru for half the price.

I like all of them. From foods, atmosphere and staff.
Was coming here with my Husband on Friday night, we saw some queue n when I said only 2 person to the staff, she give us seats without waiting too long maybe because the other people bring kore than 2 people.

For foods, I love everything that I ordered, from seafood hotpot shared w/2 people through fried gyoza and Salmon salad.
Of course you need to drink beer in Japanese restaurant.

Cost:$79 for 2 people include drinks.

You can pay cheaper depend on menus that you choose.

The food here is so fresh and delicious, the sushi is the best I've ever had. I dont know why anyone would give this place any less than 5 stars

I was here years ago with college buddies and I only remember eating the octopus sashimi. Now I am here again for Xihuahua 🐶 ‘s workmate farewell din din.

We ordered many things so I will be brief. The edamame is very dry, maybe it is their way. Okonomiyaki is very impressive, a must try! Lots of goodies with ume sauce. Some skewers are flavorful but I would say most of them are too chunky and lack in seasoning. Not a fan. They get ordered individually and it can be awkward to share. Salmon aburi is quite tender and flavorful. King fish sashimi is very fishy somehow and the wagyu skewers are gamey as hell! Gyoza serving presentation looked impressive but they are soggy and have no juice.

The staff are quick and friendly but they also told us they accept the last order from us when we only sat for about 1 hour. That is 30min til the seating ends...

The meats were delicious but unfortunately I forgot to take photos of it. We ordered many rounds! I also tried the okinomiyaki for fun but I wasn't a big fan of it.

Kitchen staff need to check the material properly and ensure the safety of customers. There was a piece of metal pierced into the ox tongue served and as a result I cut my lip. While I appreciate accidents happen, at the end of the day, restaurant staff has the responsibility to prevent another injury happening.

Satisfied my craving for Japanese last night with Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Eel Fried Rice and Pork and Kimchi Udon Noodles. Everything was delicious and packed full of flavour. The only downside was that the eel fried rice had virtually no eel in it which was very disappointing especially given the price of the dish.

If you'd like to read more of my reviews, please check out my Zomato page and visit @cynthiaeats_ on Instagram for photos!

Big fan of izakaya and its ambience, however, out of all the izakaya restaurants I have been to in Japan and here, I had the worst dining experience with this one. The food was good, let’s get that right, even though it’s kinda on the pricey side. After an hour into our dinner, my mum suddenly had a stomachache, maybe it was because she had beer with an empty stomach, so she put her head on the table and tried to rest for a bit. At first a few waitresses came and asked whether we need some water nicely. Then a waitress swang by and said, ‘she cannot sleep here’ without even asking what’s going on. 10 minutes later she came back again and asked us to leave immediately while pointing out the direction of the toilet which is all the way down at the street corner, and kept standing there staring at us until we got up and left. My mum maybe a bit tipsy but she didn’t behave in any disorderly way, she was simply sitting there and resting until she was able to get up. I don’t think anyone should be treated like this when they are not feeling well physically. Anyway, the worst experience ever, will not come back again and definitely will not recommended.
If you scroll down you can see there are other reviews complaining about their service as well. I always trust the service quality of Japanese restaurants, I guess I shouldn’t anymore. :)

Strongly recommend the BBQ pork belly rice bowl! That was very nice and smelled good. Also, staffs here are so friendly and the environment is good.
Sarah
This place is popular at all times of the night and has a Tokyo vibe! I had been craving Okonomiyaki and Yebisu came through with the goods. All of the dishes had fresh ingredients too.

Staffs are getting more rude and food quality not good as before, so disappointing compared to the food quality 3 months ago. Will not come back next time

Been to this place about 15 times, definitely recommend the sizzling dishes and skewers . Sashimi and sushi is just ok items. The variety of Japanese alcohols are worth to try, but cocktails are just blend, hardly tasted alcohol in it. Price is a little bit expensive, but the atmosphere is very good.

An interesting place. Love the deco and service was friendly. However food is quite pricy in terms of the sizes they’re serving~ everything was quite salty, but that’s the point of having you eat more~
Helen
It used to be my favourite restaurant in the area but nowadays the quality of their food have dropped down. Don’t even try the pork cutlet :) One of their waitresses is really rude! when I go to the counter she says nothing but throw the bill to me and I was like what the :)

It was one hot early Tuesday evening when we stumbled upon Yebisu Izakaya near QVB. Good thing too, since people started pouring in and then eventually lining up to get seated for dinner.. we were thankfully there by 5:30PM.

I wasn’t really hungry, but my partner definitely was, so I ended up getting just their seafood salad and miso soup. He got their tonkotsu ramen (he loves his soup), and was surprised to find it to be the tastiest ramen he has ever had. Accdg to him, the taste was “sticking to his tongue” and that’s how unforgettable it was.:)

The price for me was also just right, since their serving sizes are also ginormous, their salad could be shared between two people. Their miso soup was also more tasty and had lots of bits in it than your regular miso soup.

All in all, our Yebisu experience was both satisfying and memorable. Definitely commendable.❤️

Tried the one in Chinatown and loved the food there! Decided to try this branch too, and I must say the food exceeds my expectations! :D all the food was really yummy and fresh! Price was pretty decent too!

Last min decision to have dinner here on a Friday night. There was a queue but it wasn’t too long of a wait. Good selection of dishes and they were yummy and fresh.
Arlene
Every time I went to this restaurant, it is full of people, just be asked to finish in about a hour and 45 min, haha. The prawn tempura and teriyaki wagyu is the best, the main is not very perfect as the snacks.

Regent place is a favourite of mine and I wanted to try out every food store in the centre. I get to izakaya - there’s nobody barely anyone there yet they made us wait 20 minutes for a table without reason. Our food took more than 45 minutes to arrive when it was just ramen and octopus - the servings were tiny and flavourless for the price you pay. My ultimate experience was bad and I would not go there ever again.

Was craving some Japanese food and the closest place I could think of was this place. It was a pretty packed Saturday night when I came but we got seats after a 10minute wait. I’ve been here a few times and the food is pretty consistently mediocre. We ordered:
- nigiri set: this was pretty standard, nothing to highlight here.
- takoyaki: definitely the frozen kind, once again pretty standard
- agedeshi eggplant: I’m still trying to find a place to replace the amazing one that used to be at Tamagetaya (they’ve closed down :() this one was ok... very standard but lacked a bit of flavour in the broth
- stewed fish: I love eating stewed fish! Upon ordering this one the waitress informed me it would be a 30minute wait. I took the risk and agreed to wait for this one. This was actually a good decision. The fish had great flavour and had a really rich sauce. Wasn’t too salty either. The only dish worth trying here.

Overall, most of the dishes here are very average. I’m not sure if they pre-made some of this stuff but our first 4 dishes came out pretty quickly (and were lukewarm) so it’s probably why the food was so mediocre. The service was ok as well - not as pleasant as a typical Japanese restaurant but it’s because they were super busy. I would come back here again if I was desperate for a Japanese fix that would just get me by but this is definitely not one of my favourites. Most of the dishes are pretty overpriced for what you get as well.
Babe
The taste is average. The environment is bit noisy. Overall Not very impressive. And it’s bit pricey. Won’t come back. And I am looking for better skewers.

Yebisu Izakaya is turning 5⃣ in a few weeks 🎉🎂, and that's a solid age for a Japanese eatery, considering there have been hundreds, or even thousands, of Japanese restaurants popped up all over Sydney since they've opened. @jaejennnnn introduced me to this place years ago (that girl knows where to eat!) and although I don't come here often enough to take notes of the consistency, I still dig their food very much.

We weren't super hungry so we ordered a Chirashi Bento 🍣🍱 to share. Raw fish selection included salmon, salmon belly, fish roe, kingfish and tuna, which were super fresh and melty 😘. The vinegary rice underneath was well-cooked and well-seasoned. Sakura denbu 🌸💞, the fluffy sweetened salted pink fish flakes, was an interesting addition but I found it a little on the sweet side. Fresh wasabi was a great touch and we loved their miso soup!

I'm glad we stayed around Town Hall this time 🤗. With @RegentPlace_Sydney, World Square and Chinatown within walking distance, we never had to walk too far for food.
PotatoPototo
Yummy selection of foods, good place to go to after work. I really liked the chicken skin and the soft shell crab. Service was good and quick. there was a bit of a line at the start but not too long if you're a small group.
Jesslikestoeat
This is my second time here and it hasn’t changed my opinion. You order from an iPad which is cool.
There always seems to be a line outside, however, I think the food is “meh” and a bit pricey. For example, I ordered the miso onigiri which was basically just a ball of rice, lightly toasted, with miso on top for $6. I was expecting filling inside the rice ball.

There was a long wait for dinner on a Saturday night but it was expected. Food came out quick and servers were nice. The soba noodles were slightly bland but the sashimi platter and takoyaki were great. Overall, slightly expensive but enjoyed the experience.
Sarah&Gluttony
The ambience at Yebisu Izakaya is definitely a winner. The small intimate table arrangements, with touch screen menus. In addition to the neon Japanese signs, makes your eating experience all the more exciting.

The menu definitely screams quality and authentic Japanese flavour. It’s slightly overpriced during dinner, but worth a try.
Betterresult
Service was attentive, but the food is quite expensive. Tried the eel lunch set and there was something lacking, despite the variety of side dishes.

Having been to a lot of izakaya in Asia and especially Japan, I have to say this is the worst I’ve experienced so far.

I’m a big fan of Japanese skewers. The assorted Japanese skewers turned out to be the most disappointed dish. One issue we couldn’t understand was how could they be cold if they were to make fresh? Skewers suppose to make with fresh ingredients so minimal seasoning are required. They put some yellow powder, which I believed to be favour enhancer on each skewer. This definitely wasn’t a proper way of cooking and distorted their tastes. I had this 3 years ago in this shop and it did taste better than now, at least skewers were hot!!!

The next dish we ordered was assorted tempura with cold soba. I had this dish so many times before. The texture of soba just wasn’t right, maybe it was because f the soba they used. Tempura was poorly prepared, they are neither hot (AGAIN) nor crispy, batter was simply too much. It’s like I had too much flour in my mouth that the actual seafood was missing.

A ok dish would be tofu seaweed salad, I guess because nothing could really go wrong unless ingredients weren’t fresh. However, I couldn’t understand why they weren’t mixed before serving customer. It looks like I ordered tofu, seaweed individually and mixed together.

Orderd the bento set of wahgu beef and ox tongue on a hotplate. I guess the hotplate was not as hot that my meats are pretty tough.. flavour wise, its alright..
Not a fan of the food here. Also ordered salmon aburi.. To me, its on the pricey side and it doesnt deliver great flavs as miso at world square,. Or maybe i have to try their other dishes.. hmm🤔🤔

The portions of eel rice were huge! I thought it was for one person and so did it say on menu but I found it also enough for two people, and there were delicious sides as well! The eels were tasty and not very expensive, there is even a discount on specific days. Beside the eel rice, I was into the scallops also and I ordered twice! The urchin and other sushis were very fresh but I love eels and scallops more.
Yumyumfoodyum
After having to get the iPad reset twice (annoying!) I was finally able to order. Wow! Everything came out fast and fresh.

The. Best. Aburi. Scallops. Plump, saucy and perfectly charred. I dream about them, and would return just to eat more of these tasty morsels. Gyoza were well cooked, the skin had a bit of crunch and a bit of softness, just how I like them. Salmon sashimi was tender and well sliced. The mini soba was also tasty with adequate bite in the noodles. Yummmm.

Really popular and busy at night!

Easily order and friendly service

4/5 octopus 🐙 grilled ball
4/5 fried chicken
4/5 pork&kimchi fried udon 🍜 noodles
This one is quite nice, I never tried fried udon noodles before, always come with soap but this fried one is soft with incredible sauces! Nice!
2/5 tiger sushi
The rice is quite sticky and the roll a little bit loose. It seems they lack of something which make the sushi didn’t taste really good!
Food is really good and service is at a satisfactory. I really like the large portion of my meal. It is on a little pricier side but it was not a bad experience. Food took a little too long but it was because the restaurant was pretty busy. I really like the ambience of the restaurant though.
Will Choi
This place can not go wrong just keeps people busy and eating! Have lots fun here. Food is fabulous and lots selection of drinks. Communication can be a challenge tho.
Serenia Lee
The food here is amazing and reasonable pricing! Great place for big groups of friends and family! I’ve been here a couple of times and it’s always been satisfying! My favourite is probably the scallop fried rice!
Jem Ryan
On the whole the pork cutlet curry lunch set was good for value. The curry itself was wholesome and comforting, with rich flavour and plentiful tender meat. Despite a wonderful texture, the pork cutlets were a little disappointing as they were lacking in taste and seemed to require an accompaniment; being the predominant element of the meal this did not go unnoticed. The rice was luke-warm and did not have the fluffiness I was looking for, like the salad it seemed to be a mere ‘filler’ for which the chef afforded little care.
Ali Lam
Excellent variety of foods from hot pot, izakaya dishes, yakitori, sushi and sashimi. They also have a wide selection of alcohol, beers, sake etc. You can order off the small screen similar to how you would at a sushi bar. Service is prompt, not very warm but the food is awesome! Highly recommend the beef hotpot! Their dessert is also great! We had the mochi icecream which was fantastic.
Caitlyn Tsang
I have never seen the uni which like this. The seaweed is soft and the Uni is black. But the manager said the Uni was fresh and was in water that’s why the seaweed is soft. This is not acceptable! I can’t believe this restaurant being bad.
Ellen Ehrhardt Smith
Hands up if you love yakitori!!! If you do (and who doesn’t really – it’s grilled meat on sticks…) then IZAYAKA YEBISU is the place for you. It’s a traditional izakaya-style Japanese restaurant, which means it has many small dishes on the menu that are designed to share. Perfect if you want to try loads of food! It also specialises in yakitori. In fact, there’s a whole yakitori section on the menu to choose from! Speaking of the menu, it’s literally the biggest thing ever. It’s double sided and has tiny font, which meant that we had such a difficult time choosing what we wanted!

I came to this place because I love their main branch in Neutral Bay. I gave 5.0 for their main branch. But I must say I am very disappointed with the Townhall branch. I have been waiting to be seated in reception for 5 minutes seeing that half of the restaurant is empty. Staffs just keep the customers standing in front of the restaurant and ignoring them. Then I ordered a lunch special for Eel Set, assuming that will be quickly come. Then I waited another 25 minutes. After patiently waiting for 25 minutes I ask them to check. Is ‘t what lunch special means cheap in price and quick to deliver? I started lose patient and want to go. Finally it comes. Taste like supermarket eel. The eel and rice are barely warm. I got charged for nearly $20 (already discounted). This happened 2 Times over my total visit of 4 Times. Will never come to this branch. But still, the one in Neutral Bay is way better.

Yebisu Izakaya serves a fantastic selection of food and drink options; a quality Izakaya perfectly located within the Sydney CBD.

The bento lunch options will keep you spoilt for choices (most boxes are within $14 to $20). Whether it's seafood or meat, there are ample choices to select from within a reasonable price range. The sushi has always been fresh and if you order a bento meal, the box includes a couple slices of sashimi.

The ramen wasn't something I enjoyed and wouldn't recommend if you're a Ramen buff. If Ramen's what you're look for, then the neighbouring Tonkotsu Ramen eatery is probably a better option.

The staff at Yebisu Izakaya are always friendly, polite and alert. The table seating can be space constrained but it adds to the warm and cosy ambiance of the Izakaya. If you're by yourself, then I recommend sitting at the front of the restaurant, facing the kitchen. Yebisu's kitchen staff work with timeless precision and watching the meals being prepared is quite exciting.

Overall, Yebisu Iazakaya is a fun, cosy Izakaya that has a vast range of meal options supported by excellent set of friendly staff.

The food is overpriced for what you get. There was a piece of metal in my friend's fried rice. They still charged us full price after we complained.
RD
Best service, best Japanese food in Sydney. It's a favourite and I keep going back. Their fried pork noodles, beef and garlic fried rice, gyoza and plum sake , just out of this world. I will keep going back.

Been here multiple times. One of my favourites of all time. The hotpot, the grills, sushis, udon and especially takowasabi! Much love to the restaurant and its friendly staffs.
Hello Miss May
Lunch at Yebisu was yummy.

We had a feast! Starting off with Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl which comes with salad, sushi salmon and miso soup.

The Eel Hitsumabushi Lunch Set comes in generous portion too, like all the Bento boxes Lunch set meals.

Yebisu Lunch Box is such a treat. It's got a little bit of everything to try from tataki (pan seared beef) to sushi to dessert (yoghurt with blueberries and cornflakes, what a combo!)

It was also Mocktail time. We had Ocean (a blue mocktail with crushed mint leaves) and Fresh Peach Calpis Soda and Mango Lassi. Took us back to Japan!

Yebisu is a great place to bring your family or eat with colleagues during lunch hour.

Thank you for reading my review :)
More on the blog
Hellomissmay.com

Follow my foodie adventure on Instagram
@hellomissmay

X
M

This is not our first time come this restaurant. We are impressive for the fried vegetable and fried food in this restaurant before. We think this Japanese restaurant fried food is the best one in Sydney before. But this time the fried food as the photo are very oil, soft and even size is become very smaller than before. We are not sure it's chef's problem or they put fried food are too long time. But it's really feel very disappointment. Hope they can improve it. Others food are good.
CW
Average overall - extensive menu with the usual choices and some good sashimi options but expensive for the type of service and seating. I would rather than the time to book and go to Masuya where the price is probably similar albeit a little dearer but service and seating much better. However, it is located further from the main CBD drag.

This place is good if you are having drink or catching a movie around the George St area.

Ordering off the touchscreen ipads are always a novelty and the food is delivered quite quickly. The area surrounding is noisy and seating outside may not be suitable for those who want to take their time to chat and catch up.

Very fast service. You order your food on the iPad that's on the table. We had the pork kimchi hot pot and the pork belly was super thin and soft. Great broth. Also had the grilled mackerel which was a big serving. Also had the sesame ice cream which wasn't too sweet and sesame flavour was intense. Very reasonable price. Great ambience and friendly staffs. Will be back again

When you’re in Japan, it’s a must to visit Izakaya to sample all the marvellous food it has to offer. It also gives you the opportunity to taste many different things when there are small plates to pick from. Izakaya Yebisu is a taste of Japan. This very popular restaurant is situated in Regent Place and it does get busy, think the crossing at Shibuya. Don’t let that deter you, it is a fun joint that quickly turns over tables, so you won’t be waiting long. You can sit in booths, at tables or at the bar, where you can watch the chefs in action. Japanese memorabilia adorns the walls and it feels like you’re in Japan.

Yebisu Izakaya is a trendy and youth-oriented Japanese restaurant at Regent Place which offers mostly familiar Japanese cuisine including sushi, sashimi, udon and yakitoris. The modern restaurant features long tables with small wooden stools and an exposed brick wall decorated with bright and colourful Japanese characters.

I ordered several dishes from their iPad including chawanmushi, udon, unagi with tamago and stir-fried assorted mushrooms. The dishes are common in one aspect - They are salt mines. The texture of the unagi with omelette is excellent but the unagi is disappointingly tiny and you may need spectacles to spot them. Nonetheless, I could not taste if the unagi is fresh because everything is overpowered by the level of saltiness. Likewise, the udon is another jug of salt. Although the udon noodle is springy, my tastebuds are overwhelmed by the amount of salt. The chawanmushi and stir fried mushrooms too - I have tasted anything in Sydney that is as salty as those in Yebisu. I probably need to get my kidneys checked tomorrow.
It is always joyful to find the way to
Yebisu izakaya. Through the long way to walk you can see very fancy neon signs on the wall. Very professional staffs in and out side of kitchen, you can enjoy the izakaya-vibe of main land style. Overflowing the shot and box cold sake makes me feel like i am paying one-shot glass of sake and getting two shots.

When you order Yakitori, you have 3 seasoning options : salt, curry salt and
Teriyaki sauce. For me, always choose
salt with skewers but if it is you're first trial
I recommend sweet teriyaki sauce.

Special recommendation for skewers

They have chicken gizzard one and
Chicken soften-bone one as well

It is Very hard to find the place where they have both skewers in their menu.

Rainy day or cloudy like this
Start with warm sake to warm up your body
And then order yakitories

When you finish both,
Order cold overflowing cold sake
And pork belly skewers

If you want more to drink and eat
Finish with tab beer and edamame :)

Gotta try if you live in this area !

It's pretty quiet for lunch, but the food is good and the service is great. I had the chirashi sushi lunch set ($16.80) and the scallop nigiri ($5.80). I'd come back during dinner hours to try the yakitori!

There is a reason this place is popular and often has a queue! The menu is perfect to share with a lengthy selection of skewers, sashimi, sushi and larger dishes. The tables for two out the front have a touch computer ordering system which makes it so easy to just keep picking anything that takes your fancy! The pork gyoza were delicious and came out smoking hot. The salmon skewers were also a stand out and you can customize your flavors with salt, teriyaki or curry sauce. And of course there is a HUGE selection of sake. The staff are friendly making Yebisu a fun, delicious dining experience.

An Izakaya is similar to a Japanese pub; a place were you go after work to wind down and relax, all the while getting a hearty meal and a good drink.Izakayas were some of the most amazing places we went to in our last visit to Japan. Going into one was like going into a rabbit hole of amazing food, vibes and drinks.

***They put 3 hairs into our dish after we sent the 1st one back due to the overcooked beef with burning smell***

After visiting the 1st time with nice food we went back again for the favourite dish- beef on sizzling plate.

On this 2nd visit, the 1st delivered plate of beef got the burnt smelling so we called the staff told her it's overcooked and burnt and asked kitchen to re do it. To our surprise, She came back telling us the chef refused to do it again as it'll be the same. I've never heard or experienced chef refusing to cook. We explained over and over again how nice the dish was when we visited the time before and we came back because of that dish etc, after 10 mins explanation they finally agreed to deliver again.

The 2nd delivered beef sizzling dish, we found 3 pieces of long hairs in the bottom mixing in the sauce. It was unbelievable and disgusting. As it was mixed and soaked in the sauce in the bottom, there's no way it was dropped on the way of delivery from the staff but must be from the kitchen.

Revenge from the chef? Either way not recommended to go to this restaurant as the service was bad and inconsistent. Food hygiene is an issue too.

Our favourite casual izakaya so far. It is busy place, but we were seated in about 20mins waiting.

The service is very efficient. You order everything by touch panel, so you don't need to get attention from staff. The order get through one by one to the kitchen, so you get food reasonably quick whatever its ready. If you come with group, and order individual meal (not to share) it might be down side.

Food is not super good, but good Japanese izakaya level. Rice cake for nigiri sushi is kinda small but easy to eat. Kushiyaki are good, in particular chicken soft bone. Yebisu beer is our choice all the time.

Price is slightly higher side. Two of us, four yebisu beer plus food cost $140.

Try ordering water, I dare you. It'll never show up, they'll look to see it's on your ordered list and it never comes. 8 orders of water, 2 cups were received.

Their bento is okay.

Their tapas are trash. No flavor.

Went here for the first time on a Thursday night - got in just before the dinner rush. We usually see a long line waiting for tables whenever we walk past and it had piqued our interest for awhile. They have quite an extensive menu, and being an izakaya of course, had a wide selection of Japanese alcohol which they offer to you in a cute little cart like yum cha. We came for a quick bite before our movie and this is what we got as they have an efficient iPad system and the food came fairly quickly. The salmon carpaccio was decent, doesn't beat my favourite but it had wasabi mayo! The skewers were tasty, and the 'mega fried potato' was exactly that - a huge serving of chips that I can't fault. The takoyaki with cheese/curry sauce was a bit of a disappointment - sauce was very watery.

Overall, it was a decent meal if a bit pricey for what we got. I hear the sushi is good, so perhaps will come back and try the sushi (also, ran out of time so missed out on getting $2 fried ice cream with Washoku - next time!!)

Food is not delicious, the only good is the service. Don't know why so many people are waiting. The location is good. But couldn't enjoy the food.

Been here a couple of times, and although it’s not the best nor the most memorable, it does what it needs to do and I can appreciate that. Tasty sushi with heaps of options, and fun atmosphere. They open til relatively late as well, which worked for me when I was in need of a quick bite quite late at night.

As a frequenter of Regent Place I had been eager to try the infamous bell-ringing izakaya for quite some time. Overall I was very impressed.

Went with a foodie friend who was equally keen to sample. For drinks we had the suntory premium beer and China doll cocktail, and for food we ordered wagyu beef skewers, salmon belly skewers, mixed sashimi, takoyaki, chawanmushi, wagyu beef sukiyaki hotpot & tempura ice cream for dessert.

The two standout dishes were i) the wagyu beef skewers - just wonderful, slight char, smoky, fatty, tender and luscious. And ii) the takoyaki, which was fantastic, great flavour and, as is so crucial, perfect texture. 10/10 would go back for just these two items. Might add that the suntory beer matched them both phenomenally well.

Sashimi was fresh and the sukiyaki had some great elements - the tofu in it was surprisingly my favourite as it managed to retain its bounce and natural flavour. Salmon belly skewers were good too!

Disappointed by the China doll cocktail which tasted artificial and looked nothing like picture... And the tempura ice cream which was terrible, soggy and crazy sweet and had me questioning who decided to leave it on the menu in the first place.

The iPad ordering was user friendly and efficient while the in-person service itself was attentive and well-mannered. I also liked the Japanese int design which reminded me of nights roaming Tokyo alleys.
Overall I had a good night with mostly very tasty dishes. A little pricey but it matches the quality.

Suited for dining in alone for a quick lunch set or with friends for drinking and good Japanese dinner!

Drinks selection was fantastic ranging from straight alcohol, beer to highball mix. One and two shot selection in mix drinks available Menu available on iPad if seated at the bar, available in 3 languages (English, Japanese and Korean).

Food selection range from lunch teishoku set to a la carte selection of sashimi, sushi and hot food. It's exactly what I expect of a modern izakaya.

Passed by for lunch, had a oolong hi and buta shogayaki teishoku (pork fried with ginger and onion) Happy with the portion and price ratio.

Love it! Price is on the high side but the portion does suit the price.
Fantastic izakaya that has a great vibe and environment. The customer service is attentive and it's super easy ordering from the iPads located at each table. The same trolley is super cute and the bell is rung when it walks around. I highly recommend the Neapolitan fried udon noodle and the chicken cutlet with tartare sauce.

This Japanese Restaurant is one of our favourites! Great food, great atmosphere. iPad ordering at your table. Service is fast and friendly. Be prepared to queue up during peak hours.

👍

Loved this place! Good is full of flavour, service is great, it's got a cool street vibe but still feel like I'm not in Australia.
The drinks are fun and interesting to taste loved the mango milk, should give it a try.
Visited a couple of months back and have been meaning to leave a review. There's a reason why this place had a queue in peak hour! Delicious Japanese food, chirpy service, streamlined ordering system on screen, sake trolley (?!) we've been back a few times since our first visit- and we visit again soon. A little oasis of great Japanese food and nice atmosphere

My first experience at Yebisu was quite a nice one as their staff were friendly and they have quite a huge selection of foods and drinks.
Their sushi selection is quite large, and they are one of the few places that serves toro too. Their scallop sushi were very fresh and sweet, it was probably one of my favourite dish of the night. The toro was not bad too, with a lovely taste and texture.
However, I don't think I would go back anytime soon as their dishes are overpriced based on the flavours and ingredients used, plus there wasn't anything special about them.
Read more on the details of the dishes on my blog -->

Can't go far in Townhall without going to Yebisu! Go to after work, the sushi is made fresh and absolutely amazing. Always ordering the squid sushi with a beer

We came across this cute little japanese restaurant looking for a quick lunch. Yebisu Izakaya is not very easy to find and it's tucked away at the back of Regent Place behind the bustling ramen shop. Lunch sets are generous and averagely priced. My grilled eel was perfectly cooked and all the sides (salmon sashimi, salad, miso soup, pickled cucumbers) went great with the main. We also ordered wagyu beef steak that came on a little stone plate and you could fry the steak yourself to your liking.

Overall, it was an OK experience dining at Izakaya Yebisu. I don't like the time limit of 1.5 hours which staff tell you beforehand...however, there were empty tables (good for 8 people) beside us; why cant they use that instead of reminding us we only have 15 mins left to finish our meal?!
Will I be back? Maybe yes, the food was good.

Yebisu is a charming Japanese Izakaya snuggled inside Regent Place on George Street. It’s very popular amongst the Japanese community, along with everyone else in the know! I have eaten here previously, pop over here to read about that night here. Regent Place appears to be the 'new' dining scene with loads of restaurants and Assembly Bar downstairs.

Many people, including me, agree that food is an essential aspect of getting to know a particular culture. The Japanese have a word for this (they seem to have a word for everything, don’t they?): washoku, which means “Japanese food culture”. Washoku Lovers is a community that helps people get immersed into the Japanese food culture, highly recommended for people like me who would like to know more about it but are hesitant to dive in.

Went there on the 6th May when they were having the 3rd year anniversary promotion. There was a super long slow queue. We joined the queue at 5.50pm and only got seated after 7pm. There were 2 tuna cutting that night with $1 tuna nigiris on offer. They sold out very quick though. A wide variety of dishes & drinks. We ordered a lot of different dishes, tried new things and overall it was a fun night. Liked their tuna nigiris, gyoza, curry flavor pork belly skewers, salmon belly skewers, aburi salmon and chicken hearts.
Didn't like their wagyu beef steak.
Also found it interesting that they have a few sake carts going through text restaurant and that they ring a bell every time someone buys a shot.
Two Girls One Fork
Solid Japanese food that's made fresh and is approachable for even those who aren't I to their Jamoanese that hardcore. We'd recommend the crab croquettes and their vegetable tempura as these were super solid! The sushi was also very yum. Great atmosphere and polite staff. Ordering from the screens is also a bit of a novelty so definitely interesting date night venue.

Amazing service, great mango sake, cheap and delicious food. What more could you ask for?

Coming from Melbourne to Sydney this place was suggested to me by my boyfriends boss and it did not disappoint in the slightest
From Across The Kitchen Table
and one of the first things I miss dearly is the food.So we decided to try this funky-looking Japanese restaurant with touch screen ordering system that is conveniently located at the heart of Sydney CBD. There's plenty of dishes to choose from but once the order is made it cannot be cancelled.Turns out it was an excellent choice to have your Japanese food cravings satisfied.

We had a fun, easy experience at Izakaya Yebisu. The service was fast and efficient. The food was well-priced and reasonable. I'm sure that Sydney has a lot of Japanese on offer but this is the one we happened to stumble upon and we left satisfied.
Jmanchatty
Massive line most of the time so make sure you get in quick. Love the specials, new things to try although the costs add up. Love the whole squid and the croquette (spelling?). Defo recommend with alcohol (its an izakaya).

This is a good place for dinner with friends. The atmosphere is nice and they have a good, wide selection of Japanese dishes. Ordering your food via touch screens at your table is always fun. And the staff are friend and always willing to assist with anything else.

In terms of the food itself, I'm actually not too wowed and feel it's quite average (except I do like their lotus root crisps though). I remember I came here for lunch once and order a wagyu beef sukiyaki udon pot. Man, I was tricked big time by the picture in the menu. The actual product didn't look half as good. Firstly, it wasn't even hot, there were only a few tiny piece of beef in it and the soup was too sweet. While it'll satisfy my Jan food cravings, I think there are other nicer Jap restaurants for a similar price point. Perhaps I'm too harsh when it comes to Jap food because it's my fav cuisine so my expectation is higher, but unfortunately the food I've had here has honestly not been that great.

This is definitely one of my favourites Japanese places in city. The restaurant has a large variety of food to choose from so I can always have a bit of everything. Aburi sushi mix is my favourite dish along with teriyaki salmon. Both fish dishes are very fresh and have a good portion considering its price. Beef tataki was also quite good and very flavoursome. Takoyaki and coriander salad were average.
Nathan
Wait in the line for about 20 minutes. Best ones are salmon head and green tea ice cream with Daifuku. Good food but a bit pricy. Will come next time.
Thevangogh
I went in with low expectation but came out pleasantly surprised. The Japanese street food is very authentic and tasty. It's not surprising that the patrons are Japanese. Their takoyaki is better than at Osaka I recon. Their speciality is the grill selection - mushroom and crab croquet - but one of their sea urchin sushi was a delight as well. And their staff is super attentive and friendly that only Japanese can master.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
In an artistically graffiti-lined mall on George St down near Chinatown, you’ll find this popular Japanese eatery. It is obviously well patronized by (mostly) Japanese diners, which has to be a good sign! As we approached, the place appeared lively and busy, with outside tables full but still plenty of inside table options. We were there for lunch on a Saturday and the menu was presented on a touch screen at our table which was a bit of fun! As we were newbies here, the staff were helpful in explaining how it worked and offered some useful suggestions from the menu.

This placing is oozing with potential if they can just iron out the kinks.

The wait in line can be annoying but once inside you control your destiny with all online ordering per table, the faster you press in those orders the faster you receive your food, no waiting in this department

The food is mostly very good with a few let downs, for me the Udon is disappointing considering what in offer near bye.

On the other hand the Gyoza and the yakitori grill are on point and very good.

The Sakè selection is wonderful and made me want to have more

A little disappointing when I visited during lunch. The service was a tad slow and the portion sizes were unfortunately dissatisfying. However, the lunch special bento boxes are quite worth it and delicious too!
Miss Deliziosa
I have been here twice over the course of a few months. The wait in line wasn't very long for dinner and the service is great and served with a smile. The food came out at a good pace and all dishes tasted fantastic. The sushi main however changes and not everything on the picture is what is served because it depends on what stock they have apparently. Their hot pots are great too. Overall a great dining experience and can't wait to go again to try more of their dishes.

Went here for lunch for the first time. I ordered teriyaki fish bento box, which came with 2 slices of fresh salmon, some fish cake salad, mixed veggie salad and miso soup. Didn't like the fish cake salad and salmon slices were fresh but tiny. Also the teriyaki fish was too salty.

Came here for lunch on ny day, place was not as busy as usual but then we were quite early. Soon as we sat down, i asked if their chawan mushi was available for lunch. Sadly it was not. So i asked for the jap style poached egg. The waitress took the effort to talk to the kitchen staff and they happily made 2 for me 😃.

We ordered (from their lunch menu) the salmon teriyaki, rainbow sushi (more on that), chicken karaage udon, coriander salad and silver fish with 3 kinds of radish salad. Both salad were quite interesting especially the radish salad. Too bad those little bait fish were lacking in number 😉. Standard fare on the udon. The salmon teriyaki was the standout as a main in a joint like this. Cooked just right, skin still crispy, the right quantity of teriyaki sauce on it nyum😆

The rainbow sushi is a twist on your normal nigiri, the rice is packed in rectangular shapes with avocado sandwiched in between the rice and then the sashimi placed on top. Nice concept but they were just okayish, have tasted better nigiri.

We would return if only to probably try out their range of wide range of sake, sochu and yakitori (which was not available during our lunch visit).

Yebisu is a type of Japanese beer which is rare in Sydney. I like touch screen Japanese restaurant and was excited to try this one inside Regent Place. We got there before 6pm the restaurant was mostly empty. After going through the various sections of the menu I found it was on the pricey side in comparison to other touch screen restaurants in Townhall and Chinatown. Moreover I found the selection wasn't as wide and authentic as Wagaya in Chinatown. In the end we settled for Okonomiyaki and tender beef skirt steak. The former was not bad but the beef steak was anything but tender. Having been put off by the second dish, we decided to cut our loss and move on to somewhere else.

Reduced rating from 3 to 2.5 after a second visit. $80 later we were still hungry!!! The selection was extremely limited, the portion was so small, the wagyu beef Yakitori was so tough, the soft shell crab was the worst we ever had and left a bad taste in your mouth. The only acceptable dish was takoyaki but there was hardly any octopus bits in it! There will definitely not be a third time!!!

Izakaya is the best choice for sampling a variety of Japanese cuisine, virtually the perfect accompaniment to beer or sake. Izakaya Yebisu is located in a mecca for food, with Aqua S just right next door as well as Tenkomori. But there’s one area where Yebisu excels. Alcohol. Sake in particular.
Memoirs Of A Foodie
Izakaya Yebisu has always been an eye-catcher when visiting Regent Place Arcade for the purpose of grabbing a matcha drink from Chanoma or trying a new soft serve flavour from Aqua S. The bright and colourful signage reminded me of the sensory overload I was immediately hit with when I set foot along the busy streets of Shinjuku and Dotonbori and drowned in the memorable nightlife. I love that a bit of Japan's izakaya culture has made its way to Sydney and I was so delighted when Yuri from SDMG Marketing invited DT and I to try Izakaya Yebisu.

You order using a screen, which I personally love! The udon was great (just a plain bowl), plus the sushi & rice/tofu (forgot the word) was nice! The sushi & rice/tofu was a little overpriced, but the lunch set is worth it (considering the fact that they give you udon noodles, miso soup, sushi, and other little sides!) I like the location and the set up. You have the option of sitting inside as a group, outside as twos, or by yourself along a bench! It's wonderful! More vegan & vegetarian options would be cool though.
Tiffany
Typical Japanese bento for lunch and its so easy to order on the screen instead of waiting for the staff to take ur oder . Food and service is ok, price is reasonable.

Never had yakitori this bad. Can't understand the hour long queue. Perhaps the rest were unsuspecting victims as well. Japanese food is usually done with pride and served with a certain amount of precision and never this crudely. The mushroom was half cooked. Chicken skin skewer was served soggy with meat and fats randomly attached. Wagyu beef was like leather. The cheese sticks tasted burnt and sour. Even the simple raw cabbage dish with dips was haphazardly put together and looked like animal feed. Thoroughly disappointing meal aside, service staff were prompt and polite. Probably need new chefs perhaps.

This is one of those places that you go past and always think its pretty cool but never get the chance to stop by because your're always in a hurry to get somewhere.
Got an invitation from Yuri of Washouku lovers to try this cool venue under the guidance of Chef Takuma. This place is known for their tapas style menu dish items to share amongst your selves and friends and with sake of course!

We sat at the bar so we could see a bit of the action in the kitchen plus you get to order off their electronic menu which is always fun.

They have a huge selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers and sake! There is a lady with a sake cart (yes sake) who comes around to offer you a taste of the various sakes they have to offer.

All the dishes we had Tuna nigiri, pork belly with teriyaki sauce, mentai chicken with teriyaki sauce, seaweed salad, pork & kimchi fried rice and the deep fried prawn roll! Everything was quite fresh and delectable!

Staff are pleasant and very happy to help you decide on which dishes are the go to for the mood you're in.

Will indeed be back here as its a great spot for dinner if you are in the area to watch a movie or if you're going out later for drinks. You could always start here with the sake and move on ;)

Nice bar, good atmosphere, but just falls short on the food, which is average and a bit pricey. I'd go back for a drink, but not for food. I guess it's the Japanese equivalent of "pub grub"
