The Thai food in this restaurant is really awesome! The source on pad tastes sweet and salty and it is very delicious. I ate all of them . I will come here next time!
One of those cheap and cheerful BYO Thai places that has never done me wrong. I have dined here multiple times over the years both as a uni student and full time worker and am always happy with the food I receive. The free prawn crackers are a nice touch too.
Had stir fried vermicelli and seafood tom yom soup. The food is more than enough for one person but the flavor was average. The noodles was sticking together.
Fantastic, affordable food with quality ingredients and reasonable level of flavour — that is to say, not overdone as many Thai places do.
Can't say much about the ambience. Does the job for a quick lunch but was okay for a double-date dinner.
Service was great, though seemingly a bit matter-of-fact or whatevs despite it not being too busy (not that that's an excuse!).

This small dinner I’ve been visiting for more than 20 times. It’s very close to my uni and it’s so convenient.
The most important reason is soooo cheap! For lunch, almost all the dishes are 7.9, and dinner 8.9. And the quantity is more than enough. I seldom finish simply they give a lot!
They have back yard and it’s more cozy. And the sauce are free to use and the waitress are nice.
They also offer the free small dessert 🍮 ~~~

The food was authentic I ordered pad si ew and a beef noodle and for an entré I ordered a saté chicken. The main dishes were very delicious and flavorful but unfortunately the saté chicken was very dry. But the service was good and fast. I rate this 4.5/5 saté chickens.
Came here many times for their $7.9 lunch special. This restaurant has been one of my lunch space. It's not far away, just 1km, approx. 15 minutes walk from USYD.
There are over 20 selections for lunch. So every time I can try something new.
Besides, once you have made the choice, you can choose from beef, chicken and pork.
Most of the dish tastes a bit sweet. It seems like they prefer adding some sugar to their dish.

The meat is pretty yummy. If there were more vegetables it would be better.
#Beef satay# The satay is different from what I imagined. They use something like peanut sauce for the satay, making it a bit strange.
#Fried Rice# A mixture of rice, beef, onion, carrot and so on.
#Yellow Curry# The curry is not a dish they are good at. It's not spicy, but the curry is like the soup, not a kind of spice.
#Laksa# is a large bowl of noodles. It's not very spicy.
This place is definitely made for USYD students, cheap and yummy thai food. It's also within walking distance from USYD and they're quick at serving food, so even if you only have 1 hr gap in between lectures, it's still possible to have some delicious thai food outside of campus!

Pros: good value for money (come here for their lunch specials), food is served quickly, sometimes waitresses will offer free dessert to customers. I recommend the Pad Thai and the Chilli Jam stir fry.
Cons: the curries are too bland for my liking, need more spices!
Good portions, tasty flavours, quality ingredients in the dishes (not like some places that overload the stir frys/ curries with "filler" veggies eg loads of onion). Green curry could've been thicker paste and deeper flavours but still pretty nice. Sweet & sour tomato King prawns were quite big and juicy. Would return!
Brilliant food. The chicken was fresh and flavour some. The seafood stir fry divine and service fast and professional. Not surprised why this place is so popular
I am old and went to Sydney university some years ago. One of the things I really miss about those days was the incredible, for value and tasty thai in Newtown. I head back to refresh my memories at Thai La-Ong. Thai La-Ong is located on King St in Newtown. It's a smallish shop but they have a AWESOME lunch special at $7.50 with a whole list of options. Favourite Thai takeaway place. Always call to order while I'm walking there, and every time I arrive my hot food is already sitting there. Excellent quality and portion for the price - never ceases to satisfy. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are always consistently well-balanced with adequate amounts of meat, noodles and vegetables. The satay chicken is a good appetiser for sit-down meals, especially with the sauce. The Massaman curry can be a bit too sweet at times, but still pleases. No surprise the place is always busy, especially for lunch.
Pretty tasty. And also really cheap for a uni student like myself. The staff are all friendly and the food arrives very quick most of the time. Only negative is that everything seems to be a little excessively oily
Very tasty thai! We got Laksa and Gang Paa. Free delivery for orders over $25 and they gave us free prawn crackers! Will definitely order from here again!

Just ordered a prawn Pad see ew, tasted great despite the fact that it only had 4 prawns through the whole thing.
Would go back though, just not order the prawn.
Also has little veggies in it.

This place is a fast, cheap eat and a short walk from usyd. The food is tasty and the portions are generous. You could get better Thai elsewhere but for the price (lunch special $7.50) and convenience, this does the job well.
Unbeatable value for what you get. It is a blessing for all the poor Sydney uni students. With $7.5 lunch special, it is certainly worth going through the entire menu.
Food was awesome esp for a thai cuisine fan like me. The place is pretty decent but couldve been better. Pleasant staff is just a bonus. Would defntly come back if i crave for pad that, and BbQ pork.
$7 lunch menu is such good value - your choice of a Thai style rice or noodle dish with chicken, pork, tofu etc. I got the Pad See Ew with Chicken which was so darn good and saucy - love the flat rice noodles. Thai Milk Tea is quite sweet but very refreshing and only $4.00 extra. Great spot for lunch for any USyd student!
The best cheap and cheerful Thai restaurant in Newtown! You can't go past the $7.50 lunches! My all time favourite is Pad Khi Mao (#20 on the lunchtime menu). Service is very friendly - I go there so much that they recognise me now! Although I mainly go at lunchtime for the special price, I have to say that the dinner menu is very reasonably priced. The quality of the food is far better than a lot of other (more expensive) Thai restaurants around the Inner West and the City. The servings sizes are generous too. I never leave hungry! I highly recommend this place for all occasions - takeaway, a meal on your own, or a party of 10 people. See you again soon Thai La Ong crew!

The best Thai I have ever had and such an affordable price. The servings are also very generous. I used to come here whilst at uni for a cheap student lunch and I never left disappointed. It was my first experience of Thai food and it turned me into a devoted Thai lover. The pad see ew is full of flavour. I haven't been able to find a flavoursome pad see ew like that anywhere else. I have heard that their pad thai isn't the best, but I cannot comment as I have never tried it. The service here is also very good.
Always packed during lunch time. While there are lots of Thai restaurants along King St and the menu is more or less the same, they offer the most consistent quality of food. Portion is just right too. Lad Naa with beef is my favourite!
Cheap and delicious 7 dollars lunch, ordered fried rice with beef and it was worth every single penny.

I'm not sure if it's because I haven't fulfilled my Pad Thai cravings but the Pad Thai here tastes great! It's a very casual place with very affordable prices. They give you a lot. Their is an outdoor area which gives a very calm atmosphere. A great place to just chill. Lastly, the service. It was just great. A guy was serving my friends and I at the time and he was just friendly. Explained everything and made us feel very welcome!
Looks awful, tastes great! Honestly is one of the best pad thai's I've ever had in Australia. Don't go if you want to take pics of the food; go if you want that perfect dirty thai taste. YUUUM

Kudos to Thai La-Ong for a professional service and attitude, and also for proper packaging of their food. They arrived all hot and steaming and the hubby and I just couldn't wait to dig in! Their chickens satays were positively HUMONGOUS. According to the hubby, they were really more like flattened chicken breasts that were skewered that anything else but oh, who was complaining?
The other dishes arrived in rapid succession, the curry and then the salad, and the food kept getting better and better. The duck salad was the clear winner but it was all very good. The only hiccup came with my first bite of the prawn curry, and unfortunately it wasn’t alone. Much to Strop’s amusement, I have developed Late Onset Chilli Induced

Tasty Thai. Thai la-Ong is a winner! My friend and I went here last night on a Groupon voucher and we were both very impressed. The food was fresh, tasty and arrived promptly at our table. From our table by the window we enjoyed an entree, main and fried ice-cream each, and by the end we were extremely satisfied. And, despite being full to the brim, there were plenty of leftovers for us to take home. I will definitely return in the future.

Best value Thai on King Street. Consistently good fare at very reasonable prices. The perfect mid-week take out - we always get the curries and the stir fries. The decor isn't swish but I've been coming back for years and it triggers nostalgic memories of those uni days spent savouring cheap Thai lunches that just blew the cafeteria food out of the water.
Just had a lovely lunch here, had a chicken satay with rice, the satay is very rich, kind of like having peanut butter with rice and it tasted good. Their lunch menu varies from $7-$10 which is really a good deal where there are 24 choices, worth to come again

Say it loud, say it La-Ong. So, I live about 7 minutes walk from this restaurant, but had never been in ... but thanks to our quest (read about it at paintingthebridge.com) I've visited twice in the last couple of weeks and both times it provided delicious, textured flavours with super fresh ingredients and charming service.
It would be ridiculous to ask for anything else really especially as it is so cheap.
Both times I went with friends and we squabbled unattractively over how little the bill was!
It gets a highly recommended in the cheap, cheerful and delicious class.
In love for 8 years and counting. I adore this place. The lunch special is crazy good value and it's always quick and tasty. The girls on the floor work so hard and are usually very friendly, spare them a smile. Sit outside in summer, it's always cooler and just be prepared to eat the best value Thai in Sydney. It's freaking great

tonight we had a birthday dinner there (for a friend)

originally it was 50 guests whom RSVP'ed, but maybe 27 turned up.
(now i recognise that this makes it quite hard for the restaurant staff),
however, they were very professional, efficient, and flexible. They were totally fine with it, and served us with a smile.
We had the whole upper room to ourselves, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! a quiet room to our selves...
The food was very tasty!

we had the $22 per head banquet menu, and boy oh boy - it was epic.
a great variety of dishes (which they allowed me to customise!) - including soft drinks and four different entrees. (come on! =D )

Awesome. This is some of the best Thai I've had, large servings, low prices, fast service. What more could you want?!
Student Staple. You aren't a real uni student till you have had $6.50 thai at this place. It is fast, cheap and the food is fantastic! As such, Thai La-ong's huge servings are perfect for the ever-famished student. You cant go past a pad-see-ew (chicken or tofu) ... I have this at least once a week and it doesn't break the bank!!!
Good value. Yep, when you can't get parking or seating in the other tasty thai's in newtown we always default to thai la-ong.
Best pad khee mao on King Street. I love pad khee mao and to date, Thai La Ong dishes up the best version among the King Street eateries. Service is fairly quick, portions are large and an "extra spicy pad khee mao" delivers a good amount of heat. The free dessert is always a bonus!

Reliably consistent and cheap. Food is consistently good and tasty, and very cheap, and they home deliver around the newtown area. The pad kee mao is simple awesome. Other good dishes are the duck salad or the choo chee talay.

My first visit but not my last. I ordered the green chicken curry for a late lunch (after 3pm!) My first impression was how generous the serving was. The broth was a standout; rich and not too sweet. Not as fragrant as some but well flavoured and very satisfying. Plenty of chicken, vegetables and rice too. Altogether one of the best green chicken curries I have enjoyed in Sydney and I've put away a few in my time ..
