You must visit here, dumplings are hand made and soooo tasty, the handmade noodles are to die for.
Decent prices. Convenient location. Great portion sizes and I love how you can byo. My go to. My only dislike is that they have a time limit. I guess they are a business so it’s understandable.
Dumplings are just amazing great ratio of filling to rapper. We tried the fried pork dumplings and the steamed pork dumplings. We were thrilled with both. Will be back!
Extremely casual dining at Sea Bay, with very small and basic interiors, causing you to feel like you and the other diners are all over each other. If you're okay with walking through the kitchen (with slippery floors) to the bathroom and paying in cash, then nothing should stop you from coming here.
Dumplings, noodles and vegetables are absolutely stunning. The food comes out quick, hot and in huge portions. Love this for a casual dinner or even popping into for lunch, but beware of the inevitable food coma afterwards!
The food here is excellent. The place is extremely small and you must enter via a sliding patio door at the front of the building. They DO NOT accept credit cards, cash only. Unfortunately it was only after we finished our meal that we found this out and being international travellers had to pay absorbent banking fees to withdraw cash at a local ATM.
Had somewhat high expectations for this place as it's always busy, but it was just OK. The noodles were nice but I've also had similar quality noodles at many other Chinese restaurants, and it most certainly does not match the level of noodles in Chinatown. The pumpkin dumplings were something different but I would probably not get them again as it seemed more of a dessert than eaten with the savoury food and I am more of a savoury food person in any situation.

Sea Bay is one of my top go-to dumpling venues in Sydney.
Their dumplings are delicious. All of them.
Don’t go without trying their pepper pork either. It’s to die for. We usually have to get a second plate because: yummo.
This is definitely one of the kings of no-frills restaurants that is the perfect spot for a satisfying dumpling feast.
BYO and enjoy feasting away for any reason from an after work dinner through to a birthday celebration.
Cheap and awesome.
Food is patchy, but the good is good. No-frills decor, service quick & obliging, full of regulars mostly with beer & dumplings.
- fried pork dumpings were good enough (menu doesn't say so but they have half servings), most of them were properly fried with a crisp base, though 1 was barely coloured. Frying dumplings isnt complicated, please fry them evenly!
- shallot pancake - literally the best I've ever had, usually these are doughy & stodgy. This one was huge, crisply browned everywhere, & fluffy. I'll be back for this alone.
- chopped noodles were fat & with big chunks of many different veges, spoilt a bit by the shredded leftover-type chicken. I'd get this again but would ask for not meat.
- lamb skewers - not my style, I like meat on skewers marinated & well charred. These were just big hunks of greyish meat - it had been cooked through, but had no grill marks or flame marks, with spices sprinkled over it afterwards. Compared to Lamb & Cumin at the Dixon St Friday market these were a fail for me, but other people might like skewers like this.
Some of the chicken soups with noodles/dumplings looked like nice winter meals. This is the kind of place where you need to check out the food on the other tables before you order. Overall I'll be back, but will order very carefully.
The place is always busy at lunch time. Have tried some of their noodle dishes. Food was ok, but not very impressive for who come from northwestern China.
Not in world square but across the opposite side on Pitt st. loud but cheap and tasty! Close to the city and BYO xxxxxxx
I didn't know the place until I stepped into, just realised that's the same restaurant my friend highly recommended. Served very fast, and love the fried dumplings
Heading to a concert at the Metro and wanted to start the evening off with some dumplings and BYO beverages. This place, located in World Square, was everything we could hope for and more. A group of 4 managed to eat enough dumplings that we were unable to finish our drinks and the combined bill only came to $80ish. The place was packed with businessmen, students and even some couples on romantic dates. The value for money is worth the visit. Also, for those wondering what to bring -a wine bottle or a carton of Tiger - all seemed appropriate and welcomed. A must for those looking for a well priced feed and a bit of atmosphere before hitting the town.
"You can tell the quality of most Chinese restaurants by getting a glance of their kitchen and their toilets" - my mum. She was not wrong with this principle. Applied it to Sea Bay, passed the kitchen, and it was very clean. The toilet was the same. Had a high school group reunion here and everybody was unexpectedly surprised by the food.
The food was definitely above average. The dim sums really made our day (both steamed and fried) each for $13.8, and these signature dishes lived up to their names. I had a basic chicken fried rice for $12.8 and it was significantly less oily than other Chinese restaurants which was a bonus. Definitely worthy of holding a group outing here for a uni student budget! :)
This is a favourite for dumplings. Ordered a few other things off the menu but the steamed pork dumplings are definitely the best. The interior isn't glamorous but the good food makes up for it. The serving sizes are also good value for money. The service could be better as I have ordered take away from here a few times and received a mixed order. But otherwise definitely worth a try.
ordered a lamb with dry noodles for 16.80. The taste was alright, although i did have a few mouthful of salts and msg concentrated lamb... The noodles overall is lack of a sauce, i get the idea was to mix the lamb with the noodles but without a sauce it just tastes a bit bland overall. The food is still above average - at least the lamb was decent and noodles were good portion (for 16.80). However, the restaurant itself reeks of some sort of dingy terrible smell that reminds one of a bad basement stink... The placr doesnt have any windows and the only entrance is a sliding door thats kept shut all the time - no wonder.... Couldnt have deep breath in that place at all.... Not recommended for dining in!!!
ordered the beef noodle soup. The soup was very flavoursome and the pieces of beef were tender and juicy. The noodles were very chewy and had a nice texture to them. Very good value for money, will visit again
Great Chinese food in Sydney CBD
This vibrant busy CBD restaurant has a wide range of Chinese food on offer. It's best to go with several people so you can try more items - there were only 2 of us so we couldn't order too much. The dumplings and the lamb skewers were delicious! And it was so cheap!!
Really tasty dumplings and I love the handmade noodles. Open kitchen in the way that you see everything on the way to the bathrooms- good to know that they're not hiding anything! Service isn't tops but that is expected. BYO is convenient too with the bottle shop next door.
Fantastic handmade noodles and pan-fried dumplings. I've been going here for years and years and won't stop anytime soon.
My only gripe would be the lack of table service and the inability to get in and out of the restaurant due to the crowed room.
This is my all time favourite dumpling house in Sydney. It never costs more than $20 per person and there is a huge range of items on the menu. Definitely try the fried handmade noodles, they are delicious. The fried pork dumpling and the vege steamed dumplings are the best. For something different, try the eggplant stirfry. The ambiance isn't fancy and it's cash only but this place is definitely a must in Sydney.
There is something about Seabay that we kept on going back. It is not the cheapest dumpling house in the city, but we really love their assorted dumplings. I think the secret must be the special chili, soy and vinegar dressing. The handmade noodles is a must order; my personal favourite is the steamed pork buns, the pork& veg fried dumplings. The food is fresh and served piping hot. I love every bite and usually come out in a food coma. A great place to hang & eat with a big group of people.
Cheap. Fast. Tasty. So yum. So filling!
This is best for shared meals in groups. 4 or more. Faves are pan fried dumplings. Hand made noodles and lamb, deep fried pork, spicy chicken salad... Mmm perfect dinner night
This place is ideal for a cheap meal! So so tasty. The dumplings are some of the best I've had and great serving sizes! The food comes out pretty quickly. The only thing that let it down was that we waited ages to be served and we had to flag one of the waiters down to take our order but still a winner!
This is a favourite restaurant for me and my friends, but the dishes on the menu are a bit hit and miss. The dishes we get regularly are: the pepper lamb (delicious with cumin, handmade noodles, fresh cucumber and perfect mixed with the chilli oil, soy sauce and vinegar), the fried pork dumplings (the best I've had in Sydney), chopped noodles and the lamb skewers. I'm sure there are other dishes that are delicious, not a fan of the vegetarian dumpling options but I know other people are.
The only reason I give it 4.5 and not 5 is because the service can be a bit slow, but the waitresses are lovely so it's okay :). It's no frills dining but soo good.
Don't let the smell of sulfurous cabbage deter you. I've been here many times and here's my experiences:
- as a lamb lover(not the kiwi kind), they make pretty good lamb; lamb and shallots, lamb skewers and choosing lamb as the meat of choice in your dishes
- hand made noodles are good but got for the stir fried version over the soup ones. I don't think the noodle maker puts in enough effort to get the noodle to be really chewy
- dumplings are hearty, you'll enjoy it if you like the thick skin ones
The handmade noodles, Northern Chinese style, were, of course, very good. The beef was succulent and delicious, and cooked all the way through.
Man it’s been such a long time since i’ve been to Sea Bay. It’s been like 3 years. Like the great man Geoff Toovey said “That’s ridiculous. There’s got to be an investigation into this”. Go on watch it, it’s funny. Anyway I caught up with my mate in the city and we’re trying to think of where to go and Sea Bay...
This is a no-frill Dumpling house and is unanimous voted our fav group lunch place.
Seabay is known for it's delicious hand made noodles and pumpkin dumplings! I personally prefer the hand made noodles of Chinese Noodle Restaurant in China Town but I have to admit Seabay is a close rival. I have never seen pumpkin dumplings on the menu before and it's still seems to be a specialty at seabay. All the dishes I've historically tried here have been fantastic. I always get a noodle dish of some short and a dumpling dish. The dumplings are good but not comparable to Chinese Noodle Restaurant. The meat based dishes are good but not as awesome. Trust me! One of my favourite places to eat in the city. It's high on value and high on delicious quality food. Such a popular joint! The decore needs improvement and it can get crowded but worthwhile putting up with.
Seabay is a great little restaurant on Pitt St that serves reasonably priced dumplings, massive soups and tasty handmade noodles. Seabay pumpkin dumplings The pumpkin dumplings are amazing. The pumpkin filling is sweet and goes well with a touch of vinegar. Seabay pork fried dumplings Pretty good pork dumplings, though definitely not better than Dumpling King. If you’re not in Adelaide, though, these are fine! Seabay pepper lamb handmade noodles If this dish was a little less spicy, I would have loved it. The noodles were slippery and fun, the lamb was tender and the cucumber tried to keep it all cool. Check it out! We were quite amazed at how many people were already inside munching away around 5pm on a Saturday night, but we did realise it was right next to a backpacker hostel, so it must be quite popular with the tourists. We were very fortunate to arrive at Sea Bay when another couple was just paying a bill, so less than 5 minutes waiting including cleaning time.
Sea Bay is an unassuming restaurant that is cheap & cheerful, has fast service and serves tasty Northern Chinese food. We ordered the shallot pancakes (you should definitely get this), fried egg with Chinese vegetables, Spring pancakes (has vermicelli, Chinese mushrooms, pork and spring onion in the wrap), the noodle soup with wontons (the noodles are handmade) and an assortment of fried and steamed dumplings filled with pork, lamb and pumpkin.
I love how you can order half size servings of the dumplings and spring pancakes here. That way you can try more things if your on your own or just with one other person. I enjoyed the steamed meat buns today which I think are more flavoursome and better
People who come here would know what to expect - cheap, substantial Chinese food from the North-West region in China.
Bad customer service - they gave us the wrong change with a bad attitude and thought they could get away with it. However the fried dumplings were good
Hell and heaven. Once you get in you think you are in hell, worst service, bright and loud, tooo busy... but then you try the food and go to heave, most delicious Chinese in Sydney CBD.
We believe the noodles were freshly made and delicious! Affordable but busy, on a Thursday night.
Beautiful meatballs, delicious pork without pepper.
Love this place for an affordable & tasty dinner!
Good. A good place for quick, tasty and affordable noodles.
North-western region Chinese food at its best. Great place for some traditional North-western region Chinese food. It's always packed at lunch time, so best to book a table in advance, especially if you have more than 2 people. Dinner time is not as hectic but don't expect to get a table straight away till after 8pm. The BBQ Lamb Skewers and handmade noodles are the best in town, if they don't tickle your fancy, there are many variety of dumplings and cold & hot dishes to choose from. Very generous portions make it excellent value for money.
Lovely silky handmade noodles. fried dumplings were a little too salty. great lamb skewers but couldn't help thinking it smelled like a sweaty mans underpit. Great cheap eat
Satisfied our dumpling craving
Dumplings, dumplings, dumplings.... I could eat here everyday.... I heart dumplings
Divine dumplings. Come here for the juicy and luscious pork dumplings or the spicy skewered lamb chunks or perhaps the handmade noodles with stir fried vegetables. Whatever you choose, you will be delighted and at the end you will leave with a full belly, happy heart and full wallet. The only issue is that the place is noisy, service is abrupt and there is often a wait, but you wouldn't expect anything else from a Chinese restaurant serving wonderful food at rock bottom prices.
Noisy bustling inner city restaurant with exceptional value for money. Food is cooked fresh and huge serves. I'll be back!
Cheap and cheery. You know exactly what you're getting with the picture menu. Staff are helpful. Good comfort food in very generous portions!
Love eating here regularly. Great food at a great price
Our favourite Chinese restaurant for over 10 years! Fantastic, great value and authentic food. 10 out of 10!
Yummy food from a wide menu. We had stir fried Bok Choy in garlic, spring rolls, chicken and wonton soup and honey chicken. It was way too much food for us, we could've shared the soup it was so generous! Friendly server. Good value
Sea Bay Restaurant specialises in Chinese noodle dishes, specifically stir fried and noodle soups. Interestingly, they do offer vegan option, being the vegan stir fried chopped noodles, and quality is decent.
I’ve seen rats here. But I still love it and will always go back. Amazing dumplings! The lamb is sensational too!
Sea Bay has become a Sydney institution for quality hand made noodles, noodle soups and northern Chinese style dumplings and buns. From its humble beginnings in Ashfield, Sea Bay has since carved out a name for itself in the Sydney Central business district as the go to venue for dumplings and buns. The venue is also BYO which is geared for you to have a good time. If you are in large groups it is essential to make a booking as there are often lines out the door with long wait times. Recommended dishes include pork pan fried or boiled dumplings, fried lamb pancakes and cumin lamb hand made noodles.
