Review Butter Sydney - Sydney

Andy T
A fairly quick visit but very satisfying. Ordered the 6 wings, mashed potato and gravy, the master spice and fries and a couple of beers. Amazingly tasty and super crunchy chicken - both the wings and in the burger. Fries were also very good. Underneath the crunch, the chicken was moist and well seasoned. Definitely a place to visit.

2nd time being to butter, but first time at the surry hills branch. We tried the 6 pieces of chicken wings and the burgers. The chicken wings were gigantic and really tasty. The batter was a bit thick, however the crunch was just perfect. The chicken was very juicy and you could choose 3 levels of spice or original. We had it with mid level hot spice, but i think we could've had it even spicier. The burger and chips was also cooked really well. The beef patty was thick and was medium rare which was perfect as it wasn't dry. The chips were so good that if i wasn't so full, i would have taken a side of chips as takeaway. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly crunchy. Food was really good, my friends had their famous ramen and also were raving about how good it was, so do drop by and have a taste! It's certainly worth it!

Super crunchy and crispy chicken wings and chips. Was concerned about the price but the wings were a good size and worth it for the quality of the crunch. I had also ordered the mash and gravy but wasn't too bothered by it - I might have preferred just the gravy as the mash was too buttery for me.

I love Butter for the chicken because it’s delicious but the ramen was not a selling point. The broth was a bit salty and the bamboo shoots were way too salty, I couldn’t even eat mine. As you can see, there’s also not a lot of broth, albeit we did go an hour before closing. If you go to Butter, I’d say stick with the usual burgers and chicken. Keen to give the usual a try again when I’m back in the area!

The chicken is delicious! It’s well seasoned and cooked to a wonderful crisp. The fries were…fries though. I also had the cinnamon donut, which was perfectly moist and not too sweet. Worth a visit

I got the Cheezus with fries. I know they're just fries but I'm telling you I've never had fries this good in my life. I inhaled them. The Cheezus was lovely. I added pickles. Absolute kicker of a burger. I'll be back to try out some other things for sure.

Got takeaway from here during lockdown. Burgers are really excellent (got the OG with Coleslaw and cheese), however the tenders were a little peppery and the chicken wings were slightly disappointing (with the skin separating from the deep fried coating). The hot sauce is also only okay. Overall though, would definitely order again when needing a solid burger fix. Also the laces remind me of Five Guys' fries (U.S. Version) which are amazing.

Loveeeee Butter. Have been to their spot in Parra and also tried them a few times at Parra Lanes festival. Their fried chicken is life. They also have this amazing looking Ramen with fried chicken. Also so famous for their cinnamon donuts!

Crispy mushrooms is a must try. I love all their sauces, order their meal set with fried chicken, pickles and miso corn cob. Must try their spiciest sauce for a more kick in spicy, but their OG sauce is also amazing, less thick for those of you who wants just a hint of spicy.

Fried Chicken That Tastes Better than KFC found here.<br/><br/>I can say ramen does work with Butter's fried chicken very well!⁣<br/><br/>⁣⁣⁣It is a tad pricey with chicken on the steeper side, however to be honest I don't like KFC's original recipe 👀. But Butter's version I can definitely keep enjoying 😁.⁣⁣⁣<br/>⁣⁣⁣<br/>Also enjoying the Vahrlora Chocolate Tartless Tart.⁣⁣⁣

One of the best fried chicken places in Sydney. The burger sandwich deals are great value. The chicken is cooked perfectly and the drinks menu is really good as well

Butter is one of my favourite spots to go for Fried Chicken and Ramen. The restaurant also has a good meal options as well as happy hours for their beers. <br/>Highly recommend for every hype-beast!

I am really surprised by the high ratings this place has got. I generally don't dish out poor reviews but butter really didn't have much working for it on that day.<br/>We weren't informed that we had to go to the bar counter to order the food. Any information on the wall would help too but nothing from the server. They offered us a table in front of the loo which I politely declined and then some high chairs. Fair as we walked in unreserved but there were a few tables that were left empty with a reservation tag on it. Anyway, I can understand the restaurant policy on that and no negatives there. We finally ordered and got the 3pac and a buttered burger. There was nothing wrong in the quantity there but really wasn't tasty. The skin was crisped to leather and the chicken tenders were chewy as a result. The side sauce they gave us was soo watery it reminded me of canteen food back home where people mixed water in sauces to cut corners. The taste was nothing to rave about, nor was the service nor the ambience. This place was likely not on it's rolls when I went there but really shoddy job guys. I am not visiting again. Sorry. :)

Okay. I have left it very very late to make my way to come to Butter in Sydney. Primarily because Nirry is vegetarian, and I always do my best to find restaurants that can cater to him - thankfully Butter has amended its menu a bit and now includes a Vegetarian salad, and fried mushroom as a substitute. So to celebrate our recent engagement, we took a couple of our friends to eat some fried goodness.
Hungry Vibes Only
A great concept, executed well. Music, visuals, decor and set up all go hand in hand to promote sneakers and merch. <br/><br/>Food has a little way to go before it becomes a favourite go to spot though. Ramen with fried chicken has potential to be a winter favourite. My personal preference is that the broth is too thick, and the noodles too soft and sticky. Otherwise, give it a try!<br/>
Deadblowfly2
We waited for over 45 minutes for food, the burger i had tasted like an unseasoned kfc burger and the chips like Mcdonald fries. Pretty disappointed because it looked like a nice place and a good idea.

Restaurant has a fun vibe and dim colourful lighting - nice trendy interior with good music (can get a bit loud). Great fried chicken and ramen - dish needs to be eaten quickly as the chicken is sitting in the ramen broth and will become soggy.
FKim
Came for their limited time fried chicken ramen. Very tasty! So much flavour in their chicken, which is what they’re famous for. Ramen was also good. The music was extremely loud though, if you’re ok with screaming to speak to the person next to you. This was on a Thursday around 6pm.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
So many stores being multi faceted now and this is no exception. It’s a shoe store mixed with a bar mixed as a chicken joint. The music is pumping when I visit and quickly seated and menu brought to me. The service is very friendly here. <br/><br/>The lure of the truffle menu is what brought me here and it’s a short but sweet menu with these offerings. I went with the Truffle Chicken Sandwich. A fried chicken thigh fillet topped with fresh truffles sits between a milk bun slathered with truffled honey butter and finished with laces (their version of fries). It is a delicious combination but may be a rich due to the amount of greasy items all in one sandwich. Might’ve been nice to have something fresh to break it up. I also had a side of Laces too so didn’t help with cause! I also tried the truffle dessert of Butter’s Truffle Cream Filled Donut. It is a decadent donut filled with truffle cream and finished with fresh truffles and powdered sugar. If you want something light it isn’t for you! It certainly gives you the earthy truffle flavour.

Over priced no flavour .. got a piece of chicken with two slices of bread wheres the sauce or some lettuce maybe? The only thing i like was the slushy
AnakGendut
Delicious. Definitely one of the best. Each piece is fried to golden perfection, and the meat is extremely tender. Love the shoe string fries too. Lunch time can be busy, but not overly.

This place is really hard to find if you’re not living nearby. The shop looks pretty much like a shoe shop instead. Actually it’s a fried chicken shop as well as a bar.<br/>It’s a very small shop. We went there at lunch time and it’s not very busy.<br/><br/>[Fried Chicken in a shoebox]🐓<br/>The reason why I know the shop is they have a limited “fried chicken in a shoe box” in April. The set is pretty big and is enough for two. It has a burger🍔, a fried wing, chips and corn.<br/><br/>The fried chicken is their signature. It’s very crispy. The burger has bacon, cheese and another big piece of fried chicken. The only down side is that it would be healthier if the box has some salad as side.
Josie
This place is banging and more people need to know about it!! Such a favourite of mine and honestly, best-fried chicken in sydney. Their menu is crazy wide in choices and who doesnt want to eat facing a bottle of Hennessy and high end sneakers??
TaberuNomu
An experience from the moment you walk in. It kind of looks like a sneaker consignment store from outside which adds to the experience. There is a screen showing r&b, rap and basketball videos and great music playing in the store. The staff were very helpful and welcoming from the first step in! <br/><br/>I ordered the truffle ramen which I was a bit scared ($40 made me have a bit of a high expectation) but trust me in saying this ramen was incredible. The broth was not too thick but just right. The chicken was INCREDIBLE! The special truffle added extra deliciousness to the meal. Perfect to try during truffle season before it’s gone! <br/><br/>I would definitely go back to eat as much chicken that is humanly possible. The perfect place for sneaker heads and food lovers to unite.

Come here for dinner and it’s totally full, I could manage to seat at the bar side and try their signature dish, BUTTER’S OG CHICKEN SANDWICH ($12.5) with dashi butter and pikled sandwich. I also ordered corn on the cob ($4) with miso butter and additional buttermilk ranch sauce ($2).<br/><br/>I don’t know but it’s literally different from what I ate 2 years ago. Two years ago, it’s really great, balance and enjoyable. This night, the chicken is too salty and dry; the sauce is too sour – I couldn’t even finish the dish. My cousin also find it different from his last visit. (5/10)<br/><br/>My enjoyable one is that buttery ‘sweet’ corn and their refreshing cherry cola slushie ($7) - (7.5/10)<br/><br/>Oh, i hope you bring me back my favorite butter sandwich :”)
Sara
Great little spot where the fried chicken is out of this world good. Stopped in for the signature chef sandwich and was left K-O'd by the butter box and espresso martini. Loved every morsel.

After getting completely lost in the labyrinth of streets and lanes of Surry Hills (only I could do that 😉 ) I finally located this place. Amazingly just off Elizabeth St (who knew??) we walked into this dark moody restaurant, yet full of energy and chatter inside.<br/>We came for the Ramen that is only served at Surry Hills Sunday to Thursday. If it runs out bad luck. So we were lucky to find it was still available, so 2 bowls straight up no looking at the menu!<br/>Presentation 5/5!! The 2 beautifully crispy chicken pieces were so moist and full of flavour, which I thought really complimented the slightly spicy ramen broth. The garnish of enoki was soon immersed in the broth soaking up the flavours. Staff were friendly and efficient.<br/>It was a bit pricey at $20 a bowl but I didn't walk away disappointed.<br/>Will definitely be back to try more of the menu.<br/>By the way, there was a queue out the door when we left, so get there early if you don't mind waiting.<br/>All up 4.5/5!!<br/>

Went on a Thursday night with 8 people so we had to wait an hour for a table since I couldn't find a way to book online. The atmosphere is very cool since they are also a sneaker store. There's loud music and a lot of interesting things on the walls and roof.<br/><br/>I got the fried chicken ramen. The fried chicken was incredibly delicious and crispy. I also loved the tasty ramen broth.
Eunifoodie
I absolutely love this place!! Awesome vibes and awesome fried chicken. I always get hot af fried chicken with buttermilk ranch - amazing combo! Their hot cinnamon donut sundaes are so irresistibly indulgent.
Evelyn Chen
A legend for fried chicken. Their chicken has really crisp surface and super tender and juicy inside. Still remembering that the first time I went there I thought it was a sneaker store, almost missed it... They serve mainly fried chicken but they also have nice cocktails. If you try their chicken by takeout, you will receive a bonus surprise— they put fried chickens in the box which is like a sneaker box.

Butter was quite average and overpriced for its quality. Visited Butter in Surry Hills for the first time with a group of friends and we ordered two Size 13s. The chicken was freshly fried and batter was crunchy but was nothing special. The buttermilk sauce was probably my favourite. The chips were a bit too salty for my liking and there wasn't enough to share around. The staff were also great but I don't think I would come back here again.
Ned
Have had my fair share of buttermilk fried chicken and I can't help but feel that Butter is a bit overhyped and very overpriced. Sure the sneaker concept is cool and all but that shouldn't justify charging a premium on the food.<br/><br/>For the chicken, batter is pretty damn good, crunchy and not overly thick, but meat is not the juciest on the inside. There is very little seasoning on the outside, which makes it quite plain. They have some decent sauces but I find myself using way too much sauce to make up for the lack of seasoning.<br/><br/>Burgers seem reasonably priced until you see the size, pretty much 3 biters for me. OG sandwich is okay but plenty of good fried chicken burgers around Sydney.<br/><br/>Find myself spending ~$30pp to be full, makes it extra hard to justify returning for the mediocre fried chicken.
Foodie_wannabe
Decided to go there as hubby read it was one of the best places to have chicken wings... So we did.<br/>The menu is pretty short, and if you are a fried chicken kind of person I guess is worth the try, but for me there is nothing really special about it, and everything tasted the same as the batter was the same for the wings, chicken, cheezus sandwich and haloumi chips.
Hugh Harry
Banging fried chicken. Burgers are off their head, music and vibe of the joint is sick too. Definitely be going back there for some more Butter Box and Sapporo action.
GobbleDok
After my belle's hot chicken experience i wanted to try the other good fried chicken in surry hills....and I enjoyed it so much!<br/><br/>We got the Grand master box with the fried chicken option(not the sandwich). The wiing is the best of course, but the tenderloin and the thigh are not bad either. The Chicken itself has a slight flavour, but the crispy batter is king. Not oily at all.<br/><br/>Chips are just okay, it wasn't 'just came out from fryer' and pickles are just salt and vinegar flavour, but the main chicken was great and so we are happy.<br/><br/>If you are signed up for shop small with amex (Nov18), you will get reward as well ;)

Went to Butter for the first time in a while, Food was ok. I think it is hard these days because there is so much else on offer. I thought the batter was a little bland, the chicken itself was tender. The chips are different to elsewhere which was nice and the doughnuts are one of the best I have ever had. The service wasn't great though, after waiting a while to be seated (mind you it was next to empty) we were brought luke warm drinks and offered little to no help on menu selection. I enjoyed the doughnuts, and in hindsight I wish I tried one of the cocktails.
Jerry Lee
Really awesome American style fried chicken. One of the best of its style in Sydney. The thighs were a lot better than the tenderloins. Will definitely be going back
Aileen
the chicken sandwich and cheezus sandwich - $12.5 each<br/><br/>7.5/10 🐓 <br/><br/>In my opinion both of them tastewise both are quite the same. Its just the chicken sandwich doesn’t have the cheese and not as complete as the cheezus burger. The chicken was soo tender yet crispy on the outside. The bun was soft and buttery. But it has a bit spicy kick on both of the burger which I like but those of you who doesn’t like spicy won’t like it.<br/><br/>
Dominic Svensson
The wings are the best - tender chicken in a thick crunchy batter. The wing got closest to the quality of Thirsty Bird but then it went downhill fast - my very, very small burger had much blander fried chicken in it and the rest of the $24 box was basic shoestring fries, wilted pickle, and plain jane buttered corn (I don't understand why they give fancy names to all of these sides when they're nothing different to what you could get at a cheap diner).
Asian Food Ninja
While the ramen was not my cup of tea but the fried chicken was really good. The batter was crispy and the chicken was juicy inside, flavour on the batter was good.
Swetha Rakhecha
They have a few options for vegetarians here. I tried the Green Box with a shroom sandwich. It was the best mushroom burger I have had so far!!!! I cannot emphasize that enough! Pick HOT AF at your peril.
Sickofspamandjunk
The fried chicken here was good but not something I’d write home about. The drink was really fun though! Purple, whipped cream and full of popping candy.
Hung Ton
Had a really good ramen here. I’m a ramen enthusiast and this was a good ramen not just for a normal place - it hangs with full on ramen restaurant quality. Been here before chicken always tip top. Shout out to Christian who worked on Tuesday night for the great service - being busy yet amiable is a very exhausting thing in the service industry. Really elevates the experience. Thanks all!
Those Who Love To Eat
I have read about this uber funky place and was very excited to check out this ultra funky fried chicken est.<br/>When you walk in, you feel as though you've walked into some hip hop bar. It's fun indeed.<br/>The food:<br/>I was a little disappointed with the food, as it didn't live up to the hype.<br/>The fried chicken was nothing special, the burger was also average. Though, in their defense, this place is great for a drink or two.<br/>I really enjoyed their lychee slushie type thing.<br/>

I came here with burger fans. We have seen Butter come up a lot on top rated burger lists so our expectations were high and I guess that is sometimes the problem with hyped places like this. I love the interesting decor (sneaker obsession much? 😂) but it is a tad small so seating is fairly limited. The prices are very reasonable and I think the drinks menu has a good selection. We did enjoy our burgers but to be honest, they weren't mind blowing. The chicken was crispy-ish and the bun was soft-ish but my zinger at KFC is not too far behind albeit it wouldn't be or taste as fresh as here. The fries were so good though! We are keen to come back and this time, try the actual chicken and not in a burger because we think that's where we went wrong! As someone mentioned, the burgers don't look big but they are filling so we couldn't really fit more in our stomach after that!

Reading the other reviews I wonder if I went to the wrong place. My experience was a bad one but looking at rating may go again to see if I was unlucky. Poor service.. Very unprofessional way to welcome if I can call it a welcome. Poor selection of beers and nothing healthy on the menu.. Had fried haloumi which was dripping with oil. My beer can was put in front of me with no offer of glass... Very dissatisfied and disappointed

First of all, friendly service here. The server was helpful and gave advice on what each of the parts of the menu was good for. I opted for the truffle chicken sandwich since it was for a limited time only - honestly ecstatic that it was still available. My friends opted for one of the boxed meals - which unfortunately, did not come in a shoebox, but the waiter quickly noted our disappointment and brought out a takeaway shoe box! <br/><br/>I absolutely loved the truffle chicken sandwich, the chicken was made fresh, you could literally taste the juices oozing out of the chicken. The bun wasn’t too doughy and didn’t overpower the chicken or the fries inside the burger. The truffle pieces were huge! And it tasted soo good with the burger! It is quite a messy burger and it was my first time trying a truffle burger. Probably one of the best burgers i’ve had thus far! <br/><br/>The boxed meal was a very basic burger box. The corn was buttered. The fries were tasty! The burger had a very classic chicken burger taste. Good thing is that their chicken is always freshly cooked on the spot! The food did take awhile to come out, but its fresh, so thats all that matters! Prices are definitely reasonable! Highly recommend coming here!

I like the vibe of the place. Hip hop beats with a showcase of sneakers at the front. The staff were also very nice and helpful. Had the OG chicken burger and laced up fries. The burger wasn’t bad but nothing special. Very succulent fried chicken on a simple bun with pickles. Quite greasy but that’s to be expected. The fries however were a bit of a let down. Laced up consists of fries covered in mayo, bonito flakes and teriyaki sauce I think. The fries were incredibly salty leaving my mouth parched and making the table water taste sweet in comparison. Also unless bonito are on the way to extinction $13 is a bit over the top. Overall good vibes/staff, average food.

If you dont know what to eat i recommend Butter. You wont be disappointed 👍. Been here back in 2016 when i visited Sydney and when i moved here this year the first thing i did was get Butter. Yep, still not disappointed!
Jo
Plus points for being both a sneaker shop and a food shop! I tried their cheezus burger and it was good. Crispy, fried, buttered chicken, with cold coleslaw 👌 Absolutely perfect after a night out.
Eric Tompson
3.5/5<br/>The burgers here really fill you up! It's not so much about the size of them (the filling is fairly minimal actually) but the chicken really does it...suffice to say, if you're having chips too (just happened to be on the house the night I went which was a nice surprise), I'd not recommend getting a second chicken piece unless you're hungry beyond description. Burgers are great with quality meat, but nothing revolutionary and also a tad too hot in temperature when served, at least as far as the chicken goes. As for the fries, it seems I've hit the jackpot for the third time in recent weeks, as these fries were prime.
Tiges
This was delicious - the chicken was so amazingly tender and juicy yet with a crispy fried coat. We will definitely be back! We only had chicken and the side coleslaw but it was a great meal, especially for a slow Saturday lunch when we just needed some fried chicken goodness.
Rachael
Hot tasty and quick food! Deep fried chicken and fresh fries. Need I say more? The $20 snack box was such a convenient and simple understated meal. The burger bun was also soft, pilloughy and yum!!!
Wannabe Foodie
Been waiting to try the chicken here with the hot AF sauce. And holy mother, it was hot af. My mouth was super inflamed but it was worth every second. The sides were amazing as well. The collard greens were dressed in this satay chilli sauce. The chips were delicious. I would recommend this place to any non vegetarian.
Liz Elton
Yummo! This place was so good! Great beats and awesome chicken burgers! I was a bit skeptical but the champagne goes so well with the fried chicken ☺️ loved it!
Chickalulu7
Chicken had great flavour and is yum but WTH is up with the prices here? ? $17 for a small piece of chicken on a small bun with the smallest most pathetic piece of pickle. $13 for some hot chips with some mayo, bonito flakes and some Japanese bbq sauce??? <br/>Food is good but way over priced considering portion size and what’s on offer. Music was also too loud and I couldn’t even have a conversation with my mates without screaming across the table. Had high expectations based off previous reviews but was pretty disappointed 😔
Bottomlesspit
Heck yes! Butter ticks all the boxes. I came here on a Friday with friends and it’s such a good vibe. Casual, but still happening. The chicken is amazing. We got the 13’s and every piece was white and juicy with a crunchy coating. All of the sauces lend a different flavour experience and the slaw is delish. I would go back in a heartbeat to try the burger*. Friendly staff too!<br/>*Tried the burger at a later date and it was delish, except I wasn’t a fan of the honey mustard sauce because I like a classic mayo or tomato sauce.
Lily
I am a huge fan of fried chicken and this place definitely make it to my list of the place to go to for fried chicken. There are different levels of spices depending on how adventurous you want to get. I have not tried the burger but heard it’s equally good! Love the fries and especially love the purple fizzy drink too. Would definitely come back for the burger.
David Berry
Worst fried chicken I have ever eaten. Far too hot when served. The tables are so small you can't spread the food out to eat with knife and fork.chairs very uncomfortable. Very frustrating and ended up wasting food as I was sick of trying to eat it. Won't be back. Waste of money.
Simon Bennet
Cool vibes in this place but the food let it down a bit unfortunately- chips mega salty and the fried chicken is only a bit better than KFC to be honest!
Orange_tree
Fried chicken and sneakers collide in butter, housed in an unassuming shop lot near Hotel Hollywood in the Museum end of Surry Hills. Food menu is brief, consisting of fried chicken sets, two chicken burgers and a mushroom burger for the vegetarians who got dragged along. Thumbs up for the chicken which was juicy and moist - even the breast meat - with a crunchy batter. Sides include slaw, pickles, skinny fries and loaded skinny fries. Wouldn't order the pickles again as they were super salty rather than sour. Skinny fries also a bit on the salty side but still enjoyable. We wanted to order the PB softserve for dessert but the machine was broken. Dropped by a month later but was told the machine was still out of order. The seats aren't particularly comfortable but there's a fun, casual vibe. Couple of eye popping ceiling and door designs too so be prepared if you bring kids along :)

I like surprises but it’s also sometimes nice to know what you’re in for. And there’s a lovely simplicity about Butter in that it’s not hard to describe. You can buy fried chicken here, in a spicy sauce. You can drink champagne or sparkling wine. I believe you can buy any of the trainers that are in the display case. There are tasty side dishes, and apparently you can sometimes get your fried chicken on ramen, but that information is not so important. Chicken, champagne, sneakers. If you like one of these, you’ll like Butter, and if you like two or more, you might not like it twice or three times as much, but you’ll enjoy yourself. That certainly seemed to be the verdict of the rest of the restaurant on the weeknight we were there. It was packed for a peak period of dinner and then thinned out, mostly young professional women, that night at least. We had a reason to celebrate so splurged on champagne. We mixed up the proteins by having fried tofu as well as chicken. The spicy sauce was… very spicy. The coleslaw was great. Order at the counter. Loud, casual, fun and ridiculously Surry Hills cool.
Fat Boi
Killer chicken, juicy and crunchy and the sauce is spicy and delicious. Great selection of beers and champagne. The chicken sandwich wasn’t as generous on the chicken as it could have been but otherwise everything was great.
Sydney Food By Chloe
Frozen Negroni cocktails and fried chicken! What's not to love? We ate here before a night on the town and the hip hop beats got us amped up for the night ahead! Whether it's the 3 pack or the burgers, Butter will keep you sliding on in errtime (see what I did there). I will be back for more O.G heat!
The Hills Have Fries
Brilliant concept! RnB, fried chicken and alcohol is always a winning combo. Interior decor is top notch, with an Old School Sneaker feature wall, and champagne as a standard drank, this place definitely stands out! 🥂<br/>Only letdown would be the price to food quality ratio; this is definitely one of the more pricey burger joints we've hung at, and unfortunately doesn't quite cut it in regards to value for money. Coleslaw side was average, burger was literally chicken slapped between two poor looking buns. Down to give this place another go, however the burger competition around Surry/Redfern is solid, you need a strong menu with good prices to keep return clients comin' back for more.
Benkyousuru
A wall of exotic shoes covers the entire window pane, nearly mistaking it for a shoe shop. Opening the door reveals the dark coloured interior. We were greeted by the employees behind the bar and took a seat on the bar stools. Taking a look around, there were only bar tables and stools. The corridor leading to the kitchen had a floating, glowing, blue butter. I was confirmed twice when I wanted the hot af chilli sauce.<br/><br/>A large plateful of greasy goodness lay before me, hard to stop salivating thinking about it. Immediately I tried the chicken tenders in the hot af sauce, it was spicy to the point that it was bitter. The sauce had notes from kimchi, deep cheesy flavours that complimented the crispy, perfectly seasoned fried chicken. However, it was yearning a kick from herbs and spices. I preferred the chicken thighs over tenders texturally, flavour and juiciness. What I enjoyed most is the crispy bits on the fried chicken. Dipping in the mild chilli sauce was a relief from the hot af sauce. My friend ordered the ramen and he didn't think it was great. Reuben hills lacked seasoning, butter lacked herbs and spices and I am wondering how two important factors were forgotten.
John Shomar
The chicken has a nice crunch to it and is tender in the middle however there is too much hype around this place. I have had better fried chicken and in comparison with price i wouldnt come here again, however all in all it was a good experience.
Maya Carú-Jamett
Overall it was a good experience, nice customer service. The chicken was nice and succulent but it lacked flavour even with the sauce, the chips were pretty basic. BEST PART WAS THE BOMB ASS DRINK !!!
Olga Korbutt
I'm really not sure why this place is rated so highly. The food here is mediocre at best.. I ordered the 3pac which consists of 2 chicken tenders, and a piece of fried chicken (I presume thigh fillet because it was boneless and juicy). The crust had a nice texture but it was kind of bland. The OG chicken sauce was diluted buffalo sauce, and the slaw was way too creamy for my liking. <br/><br/>The shop however looked nice, and played hip hop which is always good.
Lien Nguyen
Absolutely juicy and mouth watering fried chicken! I've been here twice and have always left with my fried chicken cravings satisfied. My partner and I ordered the 3 piece meal, a chicken burger with fries to share. The burger was nice and juicy with a fluffy bun that worked well. Also don't forget the drinks! We had two green tea henessys which okay (I mean it's what we expected, it's just green tea and henessy) to scratch our Friday post work drink itches. A great place for fried chicken and sides with seating, which is a great bonus as there's so many outlets these days in Sydney. The sneakers out front on the window display doesn't this make this joint seem like your typical place for fried chicken.
Kerri
Chicken here was good. Crunchy outside and still juicy inside. The OG sauce and smoked aoili made it delicious. I ordered the 3pac and with extra sauce was $18. It came with slaw but I'm not a fan of mayo so didn't eat it. I came here just for chicken but there was no option on menu to just buy chicken. Would be nice to have that option.
Elizabeth Hu
We tried the henny cherry (a nice twist of the drink), 6 piece half and half (thigh fillets were nice and moist but tenders were very bland), loaded fries (a Jap fusion with a nice Asian sauce slightly on the salty side) as well as tofu nuggets (intriguing name but don't fall for it. You'll be forcing yourself hard to eat it after one bite). Overall nice try but could have been better
TotalAwkward
We were excited to try the ramen but it's no longer on the menu which was very disappointing. We had the loaded fried and 6 piece chicken as well as slaw. I recommend getting tenders as the thigh fillers were very fatty and overly moorish with that crispy coating.<br/><br/>You get to pick the heat level of sauce on the chicken. We went with OG in fear (2nd mildest ) but it wasn't hot enough and we had to level up. You don't want too much sauce as you miss the opportunity to taste that rich butter flavour on the chicken. <br/><br/>The slaw was creamy but very mild in flavour. The fries were delish with toppings you would typically find on takoyaki. I want to go back and try their hot cinnamon doughnut. <br/><br/><br/>

For a sneakerhead, this place is a dream come true. Since my husband is a sneakerhead, we had to visit this place so he can check out the shoes on display, which they actually sell. We have been here twice and the staff are friendly and quick to serve. I have noticed on our recent visit, they have collaborated with Puma and as such, their takeaway boxes are Puma shoe boxes. They have a few savoury dishes on the menu but I did try their 3pac. The chicken was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The customer has the ability to choose his or her heat level on the sauce. The coleslaw on the side however, lacked in seasoning. I do like their smoked aioli sauce as the smoky flavour is not overpowering. The seats were a bit uncomfortable to sit on and their lighting is a bit dim in the morning making it difficult to take a good photo. We had a hard time finding this place during the first visit as Google maps was not helpful.

This place is FIRE. It's a dream turned into reality. Being sneaky and all with their shoebox takeaway boxes & secret disguise of looking like a store that sells Adidas and Nike shoewear, haha. Located in the too-cool-for-school nook of Surry Hills, Butter Sydney is a secret you don't want to keep.<br/><br/>I was so thrilled with this place that I intend on coming back soon. With its tantalising menu and infinite hip hop playlist (they had Kendrick Lamar on the playlist yewww!), this place is filled with HUMBLEness and LOYALTY - from its food to its service. DAMN.<br/><br/>Here's what my friend and I ordered:<br/>- 3PAC: comes with two tenders and a thigh piece. The chicken is actually boneless, which is amazing! Less mess and stress to eat! The chicken was juicy and mouthwatering. Crumbed to perfection. I had the second highest heat so my mouth was burning. To balance everything out, I also had their Buttermilk Ranch sauce. Lovely creamy sauce, soothing the spicy flavours coming from the hot sauce. <br/>- Laced Up Fries: Japanese take on loaded fries. The kewpie mayo and Japanese special sauce were a match made in heaven. Lit af.<br/>- Cabbage & Carrot Slaw: perfect side dish! Comes with the 3PAC, had the right sweet and savoury kick. Better than any slaw I've had. So good!<br/>- Peanut Butter and Jelly Soft Serve: could not get enough of that peanut butter brittle. I was savoring every piece I got.<br/><br/>Round up your mates or impress your Tinder date, Butter Sydney know how to butter you up with their delicious fried chicken and hip environment. Count me a fan. Forever (Drake style).

The fried chicken is really juicy and the burger is a good size to have. <br/><br/>Esp like the deep fried tofu with freaking hot sauce!! So spicy but so good at the same time<br/><br/>Though it's a bit noisy so not an ideal place to chat (have to yell to each others) <br/><br/>

Amazing chicken. So tender and crispy and moist. The chips were seasoned so well and the slaw is a must. Awesome atmosphere and deco. Definately will be coming back!

Went here at 2pm on a Wednesday so it was super quiet but that meant there was no wait time. I ordered the 3 pac with OG sauce because I cannot handle spice. It was really good! And pretty filling for me, it comes with two tenders, a thigh and some slaw on the side. The slaw definitely won for me. If you like sneakers, fried chicken and good slaw, you've got to give butter a try. Super friendly staff too 👍🏼

The garlic sauce is amazing, which goes really well with the chicken. The sides are pretty good. Could have been better if there are more options on the menu.

I love fried chicken. I love the smell of it, the taste of it, my first job was working at KFCButters is the haven for fried chicken. It is so satisfying, so delicious, it hits you in all right places.  We waited inline for 30 mins  in the cold before we got a seat and it was worth it!

Fried Chicken….Fried Chicken…do we need to say anymore. Butter has stepped out onto the food scene with an American sporting edge. From the front window you will see different pairs of sport shoes, like we mean, some very heavy fresh kicks, giving a very casual yet trendy feel to the restaurant. It is not overly big which can cause some queues outside, the venue only accommodates around 20-30 people at capacity, However it’s worth it! <br/><br/>The food comes out in shoe boxes continuing the theme from the window really giving it an edge over competitors.<br/><br/>Once we dug into the fried chicken we realised how super tender the chicken was and did not leave us with a sickening feeling but instead left us wanting more. So we also grabbed the Fried Chicken Burgers and were super impressed and the best part of it all our wallets barely feels any lighter when we leave. The food is very reasonably priced and is great value when you have a decent group of friends with you. Ordering one of the big shoe boxes will land you with 5 burgers and sides for only $60. With good beats and beers on tap too, its an awesome place to kick start a night out.

We had the pleasure of recently visiting Butter in Surry Hills, a trendy fried chicken store always bustling with customers out of the door. This time around we were here to check out their limited time special menu developed in collaboration with Nespresso in celebration of the launch of the Nespresso Essenza Mini.

It is what is, and it's good. Fried chicken in pieces or in burgers, often with butter involved, at reasonable prices. Also a good selection of drinks. Neat bar/café atmosphere, with music tuned low intelligently to allow conversation.<br/><br/>Go with three or four friends and share a shoebox of chicken.

Fried chicken is my life and I am not impressed with those at Butter. Yes, the concept is creative - serving fried chicken in shoe boxes. But tasting a dry, tasteless and tough chicken is painful. It could really help if they bothered to prepare the chicken early and marinate them longer. For that price, I would suggest you head over to Reuben Hills and I am sure you will notice the big difference and probably get some change for a coffee.

Follow my insta @burgersnbikinis for more food pics!<br/><br/>You may have heard the hype about Butter. If you haven't then are you living under a rock? Butter is that place that is part fried chicken shop, part sneaker store and part champagne bad. Pretty cool concept I know. And guess what. Yep it lives up to the hype. <br/><br/>The firs time I went to check out butter Wu Tang Clan randomly showed up! Seems they have got solid connections with this place!<br/><br/>The second time was at their pop up at Parramatta Lanes. And the food tasted just as damn good the second time around! Obviously you gotta get the chicken, it's tasty, juicy and crunchy. Everything you want in fried chicken. Get a side of slaw too to break it up with some freshness. And then the fries. I don't know what they do to these fries but the flavour coming out of them is bomb!<br/><br/>Can't wait for my next visit!

Our never fail go to for our fried chicken cravings!<br/><br/>We love visiting the place, but of course, sometimes you just can’t escape the office, so having a box of size 13s dropped off by UberEats is just as good!<br/><br/>Chicken from butter is mouth wateringly good. Crunchy, juicy, tender, succulent – oh and their sauces… next level.<br/><br/>Legit, you’re missing out if you haven’t had their tenders. Get on it, stat!

Walking in is like a hip hop shoe store... pumping beats, chilled vibes, shoes in the window...and then bam!-- drinks being pumped out all with a twist, awesome cheap eats that are tasty and pure and gooooooood! Think miso glazed corn on the cobs at $4! Then think KFC fried chicken done right ( and less greasy!) plus a champagne and cocktails list that's easy to "get" and easy to enjoy. <br/>No BS kinda folks. Come to Brisbane please!!!

Tried this place through uber eats and was quite impressed. The chicken was tender and moist on the inside, and perfectly crispy on the outside. The only down side is the price, it was on the expensive side.

Love this place, the best fried chicken in Sydney, always perfectly cooked, moist and juicy

You know, there are some days where all you feel like is a big, filthy, delicious piece of fried chicken. For me, yesterday was one of those days. After a long week of work, I was feeling rather agitated by Friday lunchtime. Butter had been on my radar for a while, but it was only when I saw that it was a mere 5 minute walk from my office that I decided to commit myself.<br/><br/>For a Friday lunchtime (and admittedly, I may have arrived after the usual lunchtime rush), the place was not too crowded and I was served immediately. The decor was fine, and was clearly emulating the "groovy burger-place" interior many of us have grown accustomed to as part of early 2010s-onward 'revived' fast-food dining.<br/><br/>I ordered the cheezus sandwich and a side of fries, and within 10 minutes, my order had arrived. When your sandwich's name is a tortured pun of one of history's greatest religious influences, it is difficult to determine whether your meal is about to be extremely enlightening, or leave a bad taste in your mouth. Eating the cheezus sandwich was not quite like having a religious experience, however, it was still extremely tasty. The buns were milky and soft, and the honey mustard added a delicious sweet and sour flavour to the meal. Most importantly, however, the fried chicken was outstanding. The outside batter was thick and very crispy, and unlike some fried chicken fillets, it was clear that care had been taken to drain the excess oil. The chicken meat itself was extremely soft and tender. Overall, the sandwich was excellent.<br/><br/>As for the side of fries, though I personally prefer thicker-cut chips, these fries were very good. Crispy, salty (from copious volumes of chicken salt), freshly-fried, and not excessively oily - these were exactly the sort of fries you would want as a side to a good fried chicken burger.<br/><br/>I'm not going to lie... I haven't had a big meal like this in quite a while, and I felt obscenely full for the remainder of the day. Butter is not the sort of place I'd go often, but for what I felt like, it was simply awesome. KFC eat your heart out - Butter's fried chicken is among the best I've ever tasted.

Probably one of the best fried chicken we've ever had. It was our first time eating here, we came here for lunch on a Sunday. The workers were super friendly and one of them explained the menu thoroughly to us which was very helpful. We ended up ordering the 3 pac - 1 thigh piece, 2 tenders and slaw and also got the chicken sandwich which we highly recommend. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the skin was perfectly crisp and the chicken was juicy. Although, the shoestring fries were a way too salty for our liking. We also had the watermelon slurpee which was refreshing. Will definitely be coming back here again!

Oh my gosh, love the battered tofu here. It is on point. <br/>Dessert is also on point. Their donuts melt in your mouth and are super soft. <br/>In a good location and the decor can keep you entertained for hours. There are sneakers galore in the window for all you sneaker fans which you can also purchase. <br/>Service was great and staff members are super friendly. <br/>Highly recommend it and would definitely come here again!

I actually order the 3 piece (1 tender and 2 thighs) and a slaw on uber eats which Butter is a part of. The chicken was nice and crunchy and juicy, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the OG sauce. The slaw was on the creamy side too.
Hungry In Sydney
Butter brings a fresh vibe compared to your usual fried chicken joint. The concept of selling shoes and chicken is unique but one that we can't really get behind - very confusing. The music and vibe inside though is very cool, definitely adds value to the experience. The spices of the fried chicken aren't very prominent and it definitely relies heavily on the very tasty chilli sauce that accompanies it for flavour. The corn however, is the best corn we've ever had in Sydney - it's a must try. The chilli chips weren't to flash - not very crisp and crunchy but the chilli again accompanied them well.

Fried chicken cravings satisfied! Each piece was moist and juicy on the inside, while crispy (a bit like a crispier version of KFC's original recipe) on the outside. The hot sauce goes real well with it, but be warned - hot AF is literally hot AF! The alcoholic slushies here are a first for me - the gin & tonic is very refreshing on a hot day, and also cools your mouth from all that spice! <br/><br/>tip: ask for the hot sauce to be served on the side so you can eat it at a manageable pace (and also prevents the piece from getting soggy).
Rebecca
Great funky place for fried chicken. The 3 piece plate was perfect and you can choose your spice level. I think it should come with a pickle but it's easy to add them as a side. The miso Butter corn is definitely another add on worth trying.

I can't quite stop craving for their chicken sandwich ($16). The soft dashi butter soaked bun, succulent and crispy chicken fillet adds for a certain indulgence when dipped in their OG sauce. That sauce, OMG. It seriously brings out the best with the burger. But I must warn that the chicken can be a bit on the oily side and it isn't the prettiest looking burger. The laces fries ($5) are addictive but I've had a bad episode of over seasoning on one visit but on an average it tends to be just about right. The 3 pac (1 thigh and 2 chicken tenders, with a choice of sauce, $16) is a nice snack and a good opportunity to try out the tender chicken pieces for what it is. Light and crispy outer coating, with a juicy and moist interior. You can't go wrong here and the accompanying sauce hits the sweet spot, combining that tender meat with the rich yet not overly powerful spicy sauce . Both the chicken sandwich and the 3 pac come with a side of slaw. The slaw can't be faulted, it has the right balance of crunch with the creaminess of the sauce and makes for a great side dish. Although I would have preferred the slaw to have been an optional side rather than a compulsory one.<br/><br/>When the chicken isn't overtly oily, the burger really scores very high. I would recommend exploring a different type of bun and the slaw to be replaced by a side of sauce (the sauce is $2 and doesn't come free with the chicken sandwich).<br/><br/>If you're ever in Surry Hills, do give them a go and let me know if you agree with my comments. Not to mention the food in the sneaker boxes adds a nice wow factor to the meal.

YAS FRIED CHICKEN! Do you like fried chicken and sneakers? Yes? Then this is the place to be. The unique mash of restaurant/sneaker store makes Butter an experience. The staff are really welcoming and the decor is awesome. Their food is amazing, absolutely no complaints. The servings sizes are decent and when it says hot on their item, they mean HOT. Their drinks are a must try and so is their coleslaw. Butter is definitely up there with the rest of my go to fried chicken places.
