Great atmosphere as I could sit all day in that little courtyard. Great service and friendly atmosphere. As for the food I highly recommend the winter veggies on polenta w salsa verde WOW a solid 5 as for the cheeseburger Hubbie didn’t like the sauce but other than that it was of standard Sydney quality. Would give 3.5 But round up for being super doggie friendly. I would happily go back again and again.

Our first time here everything was great , tried the duck share plate , it was delicious , wasn't the biggest duck fan but it changed my view on it , love the fact we were able to have our puppy with us as the place is dog friendly !! Over all great environment for everyone!!
Truthfully, there’s not a lot of choice if you want to grab a quick meal before going to a show at the Seymour Centre. So, I was intrigued to try the Duck Inn Pub, which has excellent ratings on Zomato, and specialises in duck, which I love. I’m pretty sure I had a casual meal here back when it was the Duck and Swan, and it was transformed under new owners maybe a year and a half ago. There’s a lively bar on one side, an outdoors space in the back and restaurant seating on the other side, with lots of room between the tables.
Love this pub, London Pride on tap and one of the best roasts I’ve had in 14 years of living in Sydney. Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and a great vibe
Had their fish and chips(barramundi), fish was nice and fresh, pureee was nice and goes well with the fish but the chickpea purée was cold and doesn’t taste right.
Also had their beef burger, it tastes alright but not awesome. Also tried their lunch special- crackling pork with salad. The sauce for the pork is on the sweet side, it’s a bit too sweet otherwise it’s quite yummy. Ambience wise, it’s a good place to have gathering, nice decorations and they have a nice back yard too.
Went back again to try their crispy skin duck breast. The meat was really tender, juice and succulent. Skin wasn’t crispy though. The sauce was sweet. There’s no carbo on the plate, there were lotsa lotsa vege (kale and brocollini)..I wish that there’s some carbo to go with. Judging by the meat, it’s good. Don quite like the sauce and too much of vege.
The service here is great, and they have a good range of alcohol. The waitress was kind enough to offer a tasting of their beer before ordering it. I'm not that into alcohol and my friend said that sampling is the norm.
The environment was well decorated and clean. It had a rusty look/feel to it.
The food was good gourmet. We ordered the Duck platter which was some meat and other plants around it. As you can tell, I am not the kind of person to appreciate this dish, not that it is bad or anything, it seems okay. It reminds me of my trip to Hunter Valley where we sampled wine to bring out the flavour of certain foods. I guess I was supposed to have ordered a particular wine with this dish.
I give it good points for service and environment.
note - i wrote this in retrospect, i'm going off what i remember almost a year ago.
The Duck Inn is a wonderful pub in Chippendale and a fine example of a venue that chose to market itself through those online coupon/deal sites. I had previously heard good things about The Duck Inn from some friends and so I was more than excited when they had a deal for $29 for a duck tasting platter for 2 with a glass of wine each.
Firstly, I have to say I love the atmosphere of the restaurant area at The Duck Inn. It is warm and inviting, and has a country home type feel.

The environment is excellent and comfortable seating plan, nice stylish furniture and refreshing garden. Food is nice without wow factor though so I'll say average.
I’m not sure if there is a formula showing the correlation between the growth of craft beer joints in a suburb and increasing house prices but I’m sure there is something in it.
A prime example of Sydney’s ever increasing house prices, Chippendale has been transformed in recent years from a sketchy, slightly run-down suburb to a burgeoning hub of trendy bars, restaurants, pubs and, yes, craft beer.
The Duck Inn is a fine establishment with a purist’s beer list. Not a mass produced lager in sight which, depending on your perspective, is either absolutely brilliant or a bloody awful. You’ll know which camp you fall into – if you’re a nailed on Carlton Draught type of person, don’t waste your time here. I took a schooner of the Akasha Korben Double IPA which provided a massive smack of 8.5% hoppy goodness to the palate and was delightful from first sip to last.
On this occasion I didn’t eat but the food menu is enticing with a selection ranging from pub favourites such as fish and chips through to slightly nmore unusual offerings like a whole roasted duck.
The pub itself is pleasantly decorated with light wood flooring throughout, a well-stocked book case and a bamboo-lined beer garden to the rear.
Probably not a ‘session’ pub as such - the prices see to that – but certainly one to spend a pleasant afternoon in.
We went in for a late dinner on a Sunday night. The atmosphere was lovely. My friend and I ordered a signature dish to share including a variety of duck dishes with pickles and bread. It was interesting. Warning, some items are addictive as I couldn't stop eating them. I ordered a scotch fillet for main and it was ok as the waitress didn't get it quite right (should have written it down ^^) . The jus was really good though.
We then order pavlova for dessert. It really was a delight.

New menu, new burgs... had the chilli chicken
Nice out of the way pub with a homely feel, went here once before always wanted to come back.
Great service for a pub.. brilliant.
Saturday lunch. Interior so much more charming than the exterior. Ordered sweet potato, lentil beetroot burger with fries and lamb rump with sweet potato puree. Meat cooked well. Medium rare, tender. Nice creamy texture to the puree. Very hearty dish. Also enjoyed the burger. It's not easy to make vege burgers taste nice and still feel healthy but this one worked. Chips were crunchy. Service very friendly.
Excellent meal at a pub! The venue isn't much to look at, but the food is great! We had the signature duck tasting platter, 8hr braised lamb shoulder, and salt and pepper calamari - there's nothing really to fault. Except in the old menu, the signature duck tasting platter was $34 and it has now doubled in price.
Oh and I was also told that it's a dog friendly place inside the bar (without table service) and in the outdoor area. So will be bringing our four legged friend here next time!
This place may look like your usual local pub from the outside, but don't be fooled! You'll be pleasantly surprised by the cosy setup inside - the beige tones, floral touches and arty pieces combine to create a very welcoming atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive from start to end. We ordered the signature duck platter, sauteed wild mushrooms on truffle buttered brioche, vegetable ravioli and barramundi fillet - each dish an absolute delight! We could not have been more satisfied with our meal. Highly recommended!
This place was simply wonderful. It was fairly quiet around midday today and sported tables near the bar, in a well-lit back area and an outdoor area. Albeit being quiet, the waiter was quick and attentive to my needs, checking up on me for my order. The atmosphere was casual yet, it possessed a sort of distinction not yet seen in many pub restaurants.
I enjoyed the duck tasting platter which cooked duck four ways with a pickled salad (featuring olives, caramelised onions, pickles - the works) and rustic bread. I took it with a side of chips and some water. Besides the water, they serve a large variety of alcoholic drinks ranging from wines to beers. The duck was cured and cooked beautifully, giving it unique depth of flavour. The salad was also delicious and I would definitely come back here again to eat. The chips were generous and crunchy, served alongside some delicious sauce.
The food was lovely; had the smoked parsnip croquette with candied apple salad and danish blue cheese. It was busy but the service was fortunately not slow :)
Very underrated.
This place is not only pet friendly, their neko neighbor is a regularly at the bar, the pub grub is smashing!
Theres two sides, one is a bit fancy and the other more casual for the pups, I tried the casual dining purely because le tomodachi is of the inu clan.
Yes, i had a dog.
The mashy peas and the chips, they are so good and filling youd wish youd order the entire menu if your belly could telly. Now, the tap beers are standard to the O, but the combination of an eclectic surrounding, an interesting homey ambience makes for a purrfect pop in on the weekend.
$20_$30 gets you decent filler.

Went here with relatives and friends for a going away party on a recent Sunday afternoon. Environment was welcoming, cosy and at the same time not too crowded. We had the Duck Tasting Plate and the Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder for Two. The charcuterie platter was high quality with its sliced confit duck breast and hoisin duck bonbons (which were kind of like arancini balls). However, it was quite a small portion for its price. By contrast, the lamb shoulder was hearty, delicious and a massive serve for $65. We shared it between 3 (with 2 or 3 others also having shared in some of the meat) and were still stuffed. My pick is to go for the dishes 'for two' for excellent value comfort food that can easily be shared by a family of 3 or 4.
An above average pub with decent pub food. Not huge inside but there are a couple of sections you can cordon off and create your own space. Friendly bar dudes and chicks. The dining room serves more restaurant style meals that are quite good value. The best thing about it is it is dog friendly. 🐶
Perfect for a Sunday afternoon roast. The place feels like home, the food is tasty and the staff are super friendly. Their smoked duck was delicious. As was the lamb. However the sesame seared tuna was a little underwhelming, still refreshing and enjoyable.
Visited this place now multiple times and it growing on me. The food was reasonable but service and atmosphere is great. A regular.
Original post: Although I indicated 'I don't like it', the table service and atmosphere was good, drink selection good, but the food was ordinary. We ordered from a variety of menus and the burger was undercooked - both as entree and main, meat balls were trying too hard to be unique, the steak was very poor quality @ $30, and the dip combo bread was a joke...toasted slice bread...really?!!
The calamari was excellent.
Won't go back in a hurry.
The Duck Inn , Chippendale has a splendid little beer garden for lunch in the sun. It’s never too busy and there’s room for little monsters to stretch their legs. Inside the pub has been fit out nicely, it’s a bit english gastro pub meets Southern Highlands cafe. It works and it’s highly refreshing to see something a little different in the area. The menu offers both the classics and more refined fare and the food is generally good but what comes out of the kitchen isn’t always consistent. For the adults there’s good beers on tap, decent wines and the bar staff are always friendly and make good recommendations. We had Pappardelle with Red Wine Braised Ox Tail & Gremolata ($21) The Duck Inn Beef Burger ($18) Salt & Pepper Squid with Aioli ($21) Steak Sandwich ($19) Everyone was happy with their food, but the chips were soft and soggy
It’s always a bonus when you have an unplanned meal, somewhere you haven’t been, and it turns out to be so much better than you expected. Well that’s what happened to me on the weekend. I stumbled across a little gem.
My sister and I had been meaning to try this pub for a while and now that we finally did I can honestly say it was one of the best pub meals I’ve had in Sydney. Drinks-wise, the pub offers a decent variety of brews and wines. The menu has several gluten-free options and each dish has a suggested wine pairing. One entrée and one main to share were enough food for us. Both the BBQ baby Fremantle octopus, chorizo, fennel purée, tomato, olive and the pan seared spiced Bangalow pork loin, spring vegetables, bacon, fennel, celeriac remoulade were outstanding.
The food was good in general though we both thought the duck dish was way too salty. The beans were really yummy lightly buttered and sprinkled with toasted almonds. I reckon it'll be nice to come here in summer for brunch - they have a backyard for outdoor seating which looks very inviting :)

The Duck Inn has a warm homey feel to it - think country cottage blended with, well, your lounge room. We were there for our second Cake Wines matched campaign where they match signature dishes of unsung-hero restaurants with selected drops from Cake Wines.
Fillet steak would never be my first choice as I prefer a cut with more bite and flavour, but there was no denying this medallion of grass-fed beef was cooked to medium-rare perfection

In the suburb where I grew up, the local pub had a men-only bar, so you’ll have to forgive my tendency to view this new breed of cosy, country-kitchen style pub as progressive.
Regardless, it’s the perfect place to spend a miserable Monday night when the arduous week stretching ahead has you both beat. On the one I dined, it was filled with couples communing with each other and the world, their faces lit by the faint bluish glow of their smart phone screens.
Fantastic!. Great place, great & speedy service and the food is excellent and to my endless delight...comfy chairs. We will be back!
Good food, reasonable price and generous portion. Came here for lunch on a Friday. no lunch special on Friday so we ordered different things from the menu. Everyone was satisfied with their food. I had mussels in white cream sauce. Very tasty and there are like 20+ mussels in my plate. It is 19 bucks and I recon it's a good deal considering its quality and quantity. We shared salt/pepper squid for entree. Very tasty too. The environment is especially nice, and staff are friendly. Will go there again!
Had lunch there today. Wish there was a place like this in the east. Staff were warm and efficient. Food was very good value and the atmosphere was inviting. Will be back.
Great little pub! Enjoy a drink or meal in the beer garden with friends or family. The service was pretty good too!
Great food, good beer and wine selection with some interesting options, friendly service, nice space. I'd say it's a must visit! We're heading back soon.
Nice pub, good food.. We went for the burgers, i had the beef and she had the lamb. the lamb was probably better, chips were the standout, delish and crispy.
the beers were great too. all in all, nothing to complain about. hope to return.
What a fabulous place!!! i'd like to move to chippendale, just so it could be my local... pubs don't get to be this good very often - good wine list, great staff, lovely fit out (and not expensively done; just well done) and fantastic food... the restaurant has a beach house feel, which is odd in this part of town, but very relaxing... the menu is wonderful... all of it. this is a great place, popular with the locals and yet never over-packed. love love love.
Had dinner, a few beers and watched the rugby. Spatchcock Chicken was the business. The staff were very friendly and impressed me with their passion and knowledge of food and drink. Interesting array of beer and wine. Nice one!
Great place, fantastic service and an amazing fish pie - yuuuuuum! First time there, will definitely be back.
This is a very nice and cosy pub with a fairly big beer garden. We sat outside which was great as it almost felt like we were having a few drinks at a friends house. Food was pretty standard pub food. Nice but definately not worth the prices they charge. Would go back for a drink but would skip the dinner next time.
I ordered poorly tonight.stay clear of the mushroom burger, not because it is unsatisfactory but it is the weak link on a menu of triple double performers.shout out to the Vale Ale on tap, delicious.
Delightful pub with great food!. A delightful pub with great food. We went there with a voucher for two one Sunday night this month. Pleasant and relaxing theme, drinks were quickly offered and menu explained. Service was friendly and prompt as one expected for a pub. The real surprise were the quality of the food, we have a mixed entree to share which was simple tasty and high quality. We both choosed the slow roasted lamb which was hugh potion, the taste/silky moist and texture will beat any high end restaurant, we have a good portion left to take home. The share dessert was simply out of this world, there were macaron, passion fruit mouse and a pipping hot lava cake oozing with melt chocolate. I came home and bought 3 more voucher just before the deal finish.
Great Lunch Great Place. Two of us went to the Duck Inn Pub for lunch. Had the shared antipasto for entree, the Indian Chicken and Lamb Sausages for mains and the shared dessert platter. The food was amazing really tasty. Who ever thought of the menu is a star. Very friendly staff offering great service, great atmosphere - we just loved the place. We are not locals but will definately be coming back. Plus we were lucky enough to get parking just outside. We did have an Ouffer voucher, so our expectations were not high. But we came away extremely satisfied - well worth the trtp. Anyone looking for a great lunch or dinner in the Chippendale area should give this little pub a try. Thank you to the staff and compliments to the chef.
REAL GUINNESS. As an Irish person I would describe most of the "Guinness" served in Sydney as sour undrinkable scum. This place serves the real stuff, smooth, fresh and tasty. What more could you want ;)
The burgers are back to fine form!. I had previously left a post about the burgers from The Duck Inn Pub, from being one of the best I had in Sydney they seemed to trail off and become one of the worst.
I decided that I would give them one more chance. Despite a very kind offer from the owners to return for a free burger, I though it would be better to go as a neutral customer and I am happy to say the burger was back to it's tasty best!
I'm just happy that such a lovely little place near me is back and firing on all cylinders..
My idea of the perfect pub!. I have now been to The Duck Inn a few times now and I'm am still impressed every time I walk through the door. My initial thought was that it has a real homely character and atmosphere about it. A light, spacious and friendly feel to the place. It is the sort of place you could come for any occasion and really enjoy yourself comfortably. I also think it would appeal to many more people who don't like the 'typical' pub atmosphere. It is not like the dingy local pub and is not at all like other pretensious pubs around Sydney. You really feel like you have been invited inside someone's home. Don't even get me started on the wonderful outside 'Beer Garden' area! Perfect. Also, dog friendly! Big plus for any dog owner.
The staff are very friendly and eager to make your experience there the most enjoyable. I went to their inaugural UNO tournament night and had the best time. Hopefully they do it again!
The menu is wonderful. Delicious and well thought out. Very reasonable prices as well! I would highly recommend the Char Grilled Aged Sirloin Steak. Well cooked steak is always a plus for me. The fries are to die for. Simple, but a perfect addition to the steak along with the Mixed Leaves salad and Roasted Tomatoes. My pick for entree would be the Chicken Parfait. So tasty.
Great wine selection and also the best selection of beers and cider you could want.
Thumbs up all around!! Will definitely be back many more times. You all need to come and experience it for yourselves!
The Duck Inn. Had dinner here last Saturday evening. From the moment we walked in the door the service was great. Offered a drink straight away and while we choose from the menu, we started by sharing a plate of mussels which were fantastic.
The steaks were cooked to perfection, as you would expect. We had sides of green beens and mashed potatoe which were also delicious.
It was also a reasonable price given the service and quality of the food. Finished off with a couple of coffees and a tasting plate of sweets. Fantastic!
Fantastic service and the best burger I've had on ages!
10/10 AMAZING!. Just what Sydney needs. Lovely, spacious and beautiful interior with food to knock your socks off. Cant wait for the garden to be ready. We shared the rib eye steak and I dont think Ive eaten better in Sydney. The menu has a good variety of food, and all at our table, 6 of us, we really happy with our choices. Well done guys, looks like thae hard work in getting up and running must be paying off. We will definately be back.
Sooooooo good!. Oh my god! We had the Rib of beef for two and seriously, it was amazing. The roasted garlic head had to be eaten by both of us - yum!! It was delicious. Great wine list - we had the Three Amigos which was yummy with the beef. The Apple and Bberry crumble was to die for.........go there. The pub has been renovated and it is such a bright and happy place and the staff are so friendly - always smiling:)
Thumbs up!. This place is awesome! To begin with the interior makes you feel right at home and unlike so many pubs in Sydney, this one has plenty of character and originality.
Great wine and food selection. Mussels are very tasty and a generous serve. It's the perfect pub for cold wintery nights and then also chilled drinks in the beer garden during the summer. Staff are friendly and efficient. Big thumbs up.
Love the new look Duck Inn Pub & Kitchen. We came here for dinner recently and loved what they have done to the place! I'll definitely be back again - the food was fantastic, lots to choose from and really good value plus there is a great wine list.
Would highly recommend The Duck Inn Pub for just drinks or for a lovely meal in their dining area. They have a nice beer garden too which will be great now that it's warming up.
A secret we hope won't get out!. The revamped Duck Inn Pub and Kitchen looks great. I walked in and felt like I'd entered someone's interior-designed home. The burgers are good, the salt and pepper squid is even better. I'm loving that this place is an easy option both after work and weekends.
Outstanding Renovation of a Neighbourhood Local. Being a Chippendale local & knowing we have been crying out for a modern pub/bistro that is not over run with uni students for awhile, I could not be happier with the renovation of the old Duck & Swan. The interiors are stylish, the food impressive & the service friendly. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood & we will be returning on a regular basis!
