Everyone usually comes here for the korean BBQ but I was just looking for a snack. I ordered the snow cheese fried chicken which was delicious and juicy.
One of the best Korean restaurants in Sydney. Food and service was amazing.

Try this restaurant for the first time and order their lunch menu set. Choose the spicy noodle with bulgogi and the kimchi stew with grilled mackerel.
Also order jjajangmyeon.
Spicy noodle taste okay but I hope they use the glass noodle, poor that it’s not spicy at all.
Bulgogi so legit. The grilled mackerel not really tasty like in Seoul. Jjajangmyeon Taste okay like usual.
Love their side dish and also free sikkek in the end.
Nice restaurant in an alley - a bit hard to find. Quite busy on a Saturday night with a waiting line by 6 pm - restaurant spans across 3 levels so there's ample seating. Ordered Pork Belly Kimchi Hotpot - massive portion size for $50, came with ramen & rice cake, mushrooms ! Lots of kimchi but the pork belly was a bit tough. Also ordered Tteobokki with cheese - very tasty. Service is fast and friendly, enjoyable experience

Quite filling and yummy authentic Korean food!
The soup is not as spicy as I imagined but all ingredients go well with each other! If the soup is spicier might be more refreshing! Besides, the beef is tender which meet my standards!
Tofu salad is filling and unique, different from the other European salad and other western salads. Fired tofu is crispy outside and soft inside, with fresh local salad! Amazing!!
Cold bibimbap. Haha 😂 filling again but personally prefer the hot one!
Fried tofu salad was huge! A refreshing dish overall although I though the batter was a big too thick. Spicy beef and veg soup was outstanding as the beef was super tender! We also ordered bibimbap which is a classic of Korean food and I honestly think this dish can’t go wrong at all, this place made it well as expected.🤤Xihuahua 🐶
Tried beef combo, the smallest size is quite enough for two girls. Beef are very juicy and the waiter helped us to barbecue, that’s really nice. The rice with teriyaki chicken is good. Would like to come again.
We loved the kimchi jiggae here! The hot stone bibimbap had really sticky rice, wasn’t too impressed with it. Might come back to try out the bbq selection.
Located just a short walk away from Town Hall station in a dingy alleyway is O Bal Tan BBQ Korean Restaurant. Trust us, it's worth the suspense... you can easy walk past the alleyway (we did) so make sure to keep an eye out! What I love about Korean BBQ is the amount of side dishes that come out. There are some staple side dishes and the unfamiliar ones! We found this place slightly pricier than other KBBQ's in the city but it was worth it. I loved the feeling of warmth and returning home (even though it was our first time dining there) because everyone is so friendly!
My friends and I always come here for a fun night out and its great if you have a large group of people who are very hungry!The food here is excellent and always a hit with everyone i've ever brought here!! Meat is great as is there other dishes including sea food pancake and their chicken.

Love the seafood pancake and stews here. My family and friends love the kimchi pancake too. Already my fourth visit and will keep coming back to try out the entire menu esp the BBQ :)

Came here last night with a friend at around 6pm. Luckily we were seated before the crowds came. Nice atmosphere, service was pretty good, it was actually quite easy to get the attention of service staff, unlike some other places I've been to where they try to avoid eye contact...
We ordered the bc1 beef combo for BBQ and a pan fried seafood and shallots pancake. The waitress started cooking the meat for us (my friend who has been before doesn't remember them providing that service on previous visits to the restaurant), and we dug right in, and it was towards the end that I realised.. no food photos! :O
The banchan offered by this restaurant was a bit mediocre, it's been a while since I've been to its neighbour Madang, but the banchan there I thought was better from memory. One of the side dishes they gave us, the radish, was actually moved from the next table to ours, and given it only had two pieces, we weren't sure whether that was a new bowl or leftover from a previous customer :S The seafood pancake was crispy and very delicious! The quality of the meats for the BBQ was very good, and the marinated cuts were so tasty.
We were here until closing time, slowly eating, drinking and chatting. There was no rush to get us out, which was great. However, the table next to us seemed to like their BBQ black and pillars of smoke kept wafting over to us...
Overall though, food and service was good, and price was pretty standard for Korean BBQ. Would I go back again - definitely!
Such a nice , warm and cosy spot for authentic korean bbq! all the servers was nice and the portions of the food were good and the taste of them was amazing. One of my fav korean bbqs!
I’m not sure this place is still the old o bal tan I used to come for bbq, seems it has change owner.
I haven’t been back to o bal tan since ages, tonight we decided to come and to have dinner.
I would still recommend the BBQ, meat quality is stop top notch!
Seafood pancake also good, but yo me a little touch of salt bring this dish more to live!
Always a fun night! We had a fairly large group on Friday night, prebooked the table and seated upstairs. Otherwise, there were people waiting downstairs for a table.
Two BBQs between us. And to keep it simple, we just got the combo meats and a few side dishes. Yummo.. the steak was amazing!!! And loads of soju... apple was the best! Service is good and they are accomodating... it does get noisy and the night goes on. Other tables are just as noisy so don't worry about that. The seafood pancake was smashingly good.
Will cost you a bit if you're drinking and I think the meat combos of 900g were around $110 each depending on pork or beef. We ended up paying around $55 per person.
Open all day . Lots of side food, the raw beef was perfect!!!! And the Chicken soup is the best!!! Loved it. They could improve their consumer services, but maybe its because we visit there around 3.30pm
I think they were bought out over a year ago and “Myung Yang” was added to their name. I used to go here heaps with colleagues for kbbq night when they were just “O Bal Tan”. The quality of the food is still pretty good but I’d rate the old “o bal tan” slightly better. I wouldn’t recommend getting the octopus here - was pretty bland. The kimchi tofu soup had great flavour though and my partner liked the season meats. They also give you a huge variety of side dishes - I do miss the eggplant one and potato one they used to give though! Would give this place a 3.5 if I could. Overall, still a nice place to eat dinner - price was standard Korean restaurant for the city. If you pay by cash you get a discount!
We visited on a Friday around 7pm. The restaurant was pretty busy but the wait wasn't too long.
The food is decently priced and tastes great. Good KBBQ joint for large groups of people as it is a fairly large restaurant with multiple floors and lots of tables available.
I just simply love every dish here!

The food here was very good and came out very quickly. The side dishes were also plentiful. Staff were also extremely nice and more than happy to help. It was a very enjoyable and affordable experience overall.
Delish-Korish! Simple. Tasty. Easy...But it was bloody hot in there. Why wasn’t the air con working? Apart from that...it was my first go at Korean bbq and it was all good to go!👍🏻
Very nice food and service. I had Korean BBQ(some part of beef which the staff recomnended), stone bowl rice and seafood soup. All delicious and the amount was large.
The staff was kind and taught us how to cook better BBQ.
Shame this restaurant is not in Melbourne.
One of my all time fave Korean restaurants in the city! The seafood pancake is always on point and the spicy soup is what keeps me going back here. Staff are usually very attentive and responsive if it's not too busy and a great place to have friends get together for a meal/drink.
Korean food isn't always just about hot pot, BBQ and fried chicken....sometimes there are hidden gems amongst all the usual favourites...
The broiled beef is magical and the dieting us says thank you very much to what could have been a very bleak night around....
We'd recommend you try it!

I've never been so spoiled before at a Korean BBQ restaurant. Knowing Madang would always be hectic, I decided to try out charcoal BBQ at O Bal Tan. We ordered a set menu (beef & pork) and a pan-grilled mackerel. Side-dishes came out quickly with sufficient portion and good quality. Not long after, the waitress brought to our table a plate of meat. I would assume her walking away but no, she started to place the pork belly on the grill surface. Cutting up the ribs. Dividing the ready-to-eat goodness into each of our bowls. I was amazed by how she rubbed the mushroom, pumpkin, and onion to the fat layer of cooking meat to absorb the moisture and avoid it getting burnt. Then cooked mushroom was put into my sesame oil dipping sauce. It's a very eye-opening and satisfying experience.
Moreover, I preferred going to a Korean BBQ buffet instead because I can get as much lettuce to roll my meat up, then dip into Kochujang chilly sauce. Going to a normal restaurant, they just give you few green leaves for decoration, and last time I asked for more at Madang, I got exactly 2 leaves at a time. Yes. I counted. Here in O Bal Tan, they are so generous with side dishes, and if I ask for more green, I got half a bunch in a basket. Just like the way they did in Korean dramas.
This place is like the best place to have korean barbecue. We order the $80 beef set for two. The beef is top notch and the side dish is generous and refreshing ( My favorite was the eggplant dish and egg salad dish). We would come back here often in the future for some good korean barbecue.
Pretty good Korean place in the CBD! We ordered the beef set and pork to set share. The beef slices were all pretty good, but our table's favourite was definitely the spicy marinated pork. So good! The seafood pancake wasn't favourite as there were chunks of tentacles there and that's just my personal food pet peeve. But the pancake batter itself was really good and our table definitely loved it.
I love a good Korean BBQ place and this did not disappoint, despite being tucked away in the heart of the CBD. The amount of sides we got were great and the staff were friendly and more than happy to refill them. Also their cheesy ddeokbokki is insane! 🤤

The meat here was top notch especially their first beef depicted in the second platter which had wonderful marbling and our favourite. Highly recommended for Korean BBQ. The staff were nice and friendly and the restaurant was quite lively

The potato noodles and seafood pancake portions were larger than expected, they tasted okay but I've had better. I would stick to just Korean BBQ. They are quite generous and give you a lot of side dishes too. We were super bloated after this dinner but very very satisfied.
Yum!! Just off Pitt Street at the end of the lane way next to Madang. Love coming here with a group of friends for soju and a great feed! We've tried everything from BBQ meat, hotpot, fried chicken, seafood pancake and steamed egg with roe on top! It gets very busy but food arrives quite quickly and gets polished off.
Cheap, generous portion, daebak! The bbq was awesome whether it is seafood or samgyupsal, the seafood pancake also came in massive portion and it tastes good as well. Beware if you want to try the spicy menu, it is not recommended for those who don't eat spicy, it's very spicy. It's located in the alley, so just find it via maps.
O Bal Tan had delicious Korean food, plentiful side dishes, friendly service and the food came pretty fast!
We had the Korean BBQ experience with the lamb and chicken, as well the seafood pancake. The seafood pancake is a must to try in all Korean restaurants!

Great food, better service. We ordered a pork set, a cheese ddeokbokki and cold noodles between 3 people and it was more than enough to fill us up. The side dishes were of great quality and we were offered many refills without having to ask.
Our waiters were very friendly and made the experience memorable.
Initially, service was quite slow but once the side dishes were brought out, it was a lot more attentive. The side dishes were nice, one of them was eggplant with onion and this was memorable. Intestines cooked in Korean chilli sauce was good once cooked. Buttery and chilli at the same time. Also had ox tongue and beef ribs. Recommend the seafood soondubu (soft tofu) stew. It had actual crab meat, i.e. crab leg which had to be broken open and eaten, as opposed to the generic fillers. But the usuals too, like prawn and mussel. The stew was a nice break from the meat.
Obaltan is one of the go-to’s for Korean BBQ in the city. They have a ventilation system where the smoke gets stuck under rather than rising up which is a nice change, so your clothes don’t end up stinking of BBQ afterwards.
Hard to find in a little laneway. But great bbq meat, well marinated and nice sides. Language barrier was a little issue but very friendly - we stayed quite close to closing time and never got told to hurry up.
One of the best Korean BBQ spots I've been to - the quality of the meat was fantastic and wonderfully flavored. The other mains looked delicious and had the taste to match. Would be returning here soon.
Pretty good korean resto
Love the bbq, the beef combo was pretty good and it was a decent size. The pork belly is also pretty good although its very fatty so be careful of the oil bouncing everywhere
The egg soup is also amazing, very smooth texture and not overcooked. The seafood pancake wasnt too bad either and not as floury as other places.
The cheese and spicy chicken wasnt bad but a bit average. The flame they use to cook it on the table wasnt hot enough
Overall not a bad korean place, defo recommend for large groups
Good and spacious kbbq place (great for big groups). Ordering is convenient after they added the qr code scanning for the menu so you can order through your phone and pay later. Meat are really good and service is great (they change the grills frequently and quickly). Wish they had some dessert though
Hidden & tucked-away in Pitt Street, Sydney, is this rustic Korean BBQ Restaurant. Food was plentiful & generous, ordering through your mobile phone was easy & service was great. The side dishes complimented the Beef Bibimbap & the Kimchi Pancake that we ordered. Drinking Soju was a first for me, shared with my niece & sister. I would have given a 5* if there were a few more beef slices. Still, I will be going back to try the other dishes.
First visit here. Thursday night 8pm ish. Busy,but good timing and got last free table. Friendly and efficient staff. Good meats and marinades. Canned beers available. Will definitely go again. Walk down the lane opposite the Wilson Car Park entrance at the lower end of Pitt St.
I love Korean BBQ, even though this is only the second time I've ever had it. Nice place inside, plenty of room on the tables around the BBQ for your sides which come for free. The premium meat pack was great, so much tasty meat to tuck into. Soju on offer, fast becoming a favourite of mine. Hey, who doesn't like 12% 'Soft Drinks'.
Absolutely delicious, got the mixed plate and it was worth every cent. The meat quality is great and the marinated portions are sauced amazingly. Definitely a place to consider if you want to treat yourself to a good dinner
Myung Jang is one of the finest Korean restaurants in Sydney city. I really like their ‘Seafood soft tofu soup’. It’s my all-time favourite soup and they make it really well. They put a generous amount of ingredients in the clay pot and they also give a wide range of healthy side dishes as well. The quality is good here so it’s worth a visit. I give this place 4 bears.
Behind the main street lies this hidden gem of a restaurant with great ambience. The grill had extraction ducts built into the circumference so there is no smoky room. Ordering done through your phone. Food was tender and delicious and grills changed regularly. Sharp scissors and tongs provided to cut the meat into share portions. They also take bookings to avoid the wait. Main criticism is the sides were not replenished and prices a tad steep for quantity provided but to be expected in the current high inflation environment.
