Review Jamie's Italian - Sydney

Christian Dodd
Visited Jamie’s Italian recently for their limited edition Veg menu to celebrate the release of the new book. It was my first time visiting so I had no expectations set for me. Had a selection of entrees, a couple mains and then the dessert they had on offer. The salads were very basic but had some good flavour to them. For mains I ordered the risotto and the gnocchi, both of which were quite good. Great texture on the risotto, the gnocchi could have done with a little more bite, otherwise very happy. The venue seems to be a hit for a quick lunch during the week, and I’d be back if I was ever in need of a pasta fix on my lunch break.

Our experience at this rustic-styled Italian restaurant turned out to be better than expected. Of course, the anticipation of visiting a celebrity chef’s restaurant naturally generates some level of excitement, and for this occasion at least (unlike some of the other unfortunate reviewers), we were not disappointed with the service or the food or the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and our mains were tasty and full of flavour. The only downside was the ice cream in the dessert came out partially melted, but the summer evening was hotter than usual. We’ve been to better rated restaurants in the past, but we managed to enjoy our time at Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Sydney and have no qualms in recommending it to family and friends to try!

Amazing restaurant, will highly recommend to anyone looking for great Italian restaurant in the city. Booking is highly recommended, as we found walk-ins had to wait more than 1 hour (we luckily had booked), when we were leaving, there was a long queue outside. Loved their octopus ravioli as well as the cheese cake. Will definitely return.

The service in this restaurant is awesome, the waitress looked after us really well and we felt welcomed. The food is very nice as well, we had the Famous seafood pasta and Pork belly, they are all cooked to perfection. The Ultimate Plank is very nice and I really like the small touch of using Italian tomato sauce cans as base. Kids meals are also very tasty and healthy. The atmosphere couldn’t be more cosy and welcoming. This place is highly recommended!

First disappointment was that Jamie wasn’t working the night I turned up. Positives - main meal serving size is large. Great fit out and ambiance. For improvement - side dishes could be larger. The chips were tiny for the price. They were also soggy. Not deep fried, possibly deep friend first and later cooked in an oven to be reheated??? Garlic bread didn’t hit the mark. The bread lacked crunch and garlic hit I would have liked. Although the taste of the chicken was ok - it tasted like something I could have made at home. Plates arrived dirty - replacement plates weren’t that great either. Staff are attentive - but maybe too much so. I just finished my drink for the staff to reach over my new to grab the empty glass. Repeated throughout the entire service. Chairs - hard metal jobs you can pick up from Bunnings. and uncomfortable.

This is ok for Italian food, but definitely very far from great. I've been to this location and the one in Parramatta. The city location is second best, when it comes to ambiance and decor. It's cramped and always seems overcrowded. The food is alright, but it's super overpriced. You can get the same thing from any old Italian joint. I would have thought that something with the Jamie Oliver brand on it would have been much better. I had a Super Food Garden Salad that seemed to be mostly comprised of canned lentils and mung beans. The truffle pasta was really good, which was surprising given that they rest of the food was pretty ordinary. The steak was very thin, and cooled quickly on the plate. The coleslaw served with the steak was a bit flavourless. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. We never felt that we were missed or were lacking anything. They also let us split the bill with a big table, which was great. Overall, the food isn't that great but the staff are very helpful.

Food is pretty good, but the portion sizes of "main" pastas are too small. With all this hype about Jamie taking over these restaurants I would have also expected better service. Seems like the waitstaff just don't want to be there. It's not hard to give good service! 1 star lost for service 1 star lost for small "main" portion size of pasta

As a big fan of Jamie Oliver, we saved this spot for our last meal in Sydney. The restaurant itself was quite dark (brightness increased in photo). The waiter was very nice. We had the lunch special which runs through until 5pm and mine was the salad. I must say... it was a HUGE salad. I had extra salmon topping and it went really well with the other parts but I thought it was too salty for my likings. As for the bolognese pasta, my sister says that it was a decent plate!

Unfortunately I didn't have a great experience. Staff were very welcoming when I arrived but once my main arrived, no one came near me again. I ordered the truffle tagliatelle which clearly wasn't using fresh pasta as there were some harder parts that obviously hadn't been in the water long enough. Preserved truffle was clearly used rather than fresh and the dish had a weird mushroomy taste to it instead of a true truffle flavour. For the prices, fresh truffle should be used or if out of season, take the dish off the menu till it's back. I also could have walked straight out as there was no one at the front when I went to pay, and had to wait alongside others who had just walked in for a table for someone to come and see to us. Wouldn't go back in a hurry, especially in a city like Sydney where there's so many other options.

The name Jamie Oliver requires no introduction. At the age of 44, the celebrity chef has a number of restaurants, television series and cookbooks under his belt. We came to his establishment on Pitt Street in Sydney CBD for a pasta fix to kick start the weekend.

Celebrating Jamie Oliver's new Veg cookbook with the limited edition "We Love Veg" Menu! I'm a firm supporter of a plant-based diet so to see more and more restaurants embracing that in their menu makes me extremely excited. Anything you get on the menu is a winner but I'd highly recommend the Mushroom Rigatoni and Grape & Radicchio Salad. Both have an intensity of flavour and uniqueness that stood out to me.

If you'd like to read more of my reviews, please check out my Zomato page and visit @cynthiaeats_ on Instagram for more photos!

My thanks to Jamie's Italian for the invite.

Jamie’s Italian has never disappointed in both food and service. I have (very embarrassingly for my diet) been here too many times to count. I always order the same dish (truffle tagliatelle) and it is my all time favourite. The cocktails (Amalfi Spritz) were ordered by my friends and they loved it. Their desserts have also improved during the times I have been there. Thank you for always providing me and my friends with consistent quality food/service.

My friend and I have been here on a number of previous occasions and always enjoyed it. It’s been a few years and we thought we would try it again and we’re both very disappointed. The pasta was average at best and when you are paying $33 for a pasta I would expect quality. We tried to order dessert just before ten on a Saturday night and were told all the chefs had gone and it wasn’t available. I find this slightly ridiculous on a Saturday night in the middle of Sydney. The only positive was the lovely staff. Don’t think I’ll be going back.

This place is an absolute disgrace
and the staff should be ashamed of themselves.

Jamie Oliver, if you read this
review, you will quick smart get in there and do something about it. They are
ruing the amazing and inspiring reputation you have.

My husband and I walked
passed this restaurant on a Saturday night (11 May) and being big fans of Jamie
Oliver, we decided we would try and get a table.

The guy who first approached us
(tall, wearing a check shirt), was a disgrace. No warm welcome, barely made eye
contact, it was like we were bothering him. It was an effort for him to
consider whether there was any room for us. A few minutes later, he said go to
the bar and get a drink and we’ll have a table for you in ten minutes.

No direction to the bar, we
stood awkwardly where he left us.

We approached the front bar
where one guy was wiping glassware and a lady (white shirt, red lips) was doing
something. Knowing quite well that someone was standing there, this lady
continued to ignore my husband. Miserable look on her face, she had her back to
us and continued to make coffees.

We eventually got her
attention and ordered. No smile, it was the biggest effort for this lady to
serve us, she was simply not happy.

A few minutes later we were
directed to our table. As we sat there, the original guys threw a menu and a
tea light candle in front of us which was humiliating.

So we decided to leave our
drinks and had the courage to leave.

On my way out, I approached the
bar and told the staff that they’re behaviour was disgusting. They were silent,
of course they were. They knew it.

Be lucky you have a job
people, and if you don’t want to be in the social and buzzing hospitality
industry then get out.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WOULD
NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT.

Shame on you staff!

Came here for my Birthday dinner with my sister and her friend and had a pretty good time. We had made a booking prior and came in about 5 mins late we still had to wait for a table so there was no point of booking as we had to sit at the bar for 15 minutes which was an inconvenience. For drinks I had the refresher and I also tried the ginger mojito but I preferred the refresher it was really good. Once we finally got seated we were put at a booth sort of table and it was like a u shape and was a bit awkward to sit at as the table was so close to the seat it made me feel trapped. For my main I had the 'Tagliatelle Bolognese' which was $26 and is described as pork & beef slow cooked with red wine, topped with pangrattato & Parmesan. I really enjoyed it and my sister tried it and she loved it and kept going back for more. For dessert we got the epic brownie & poached pears to share and the brownie was amazing. Def recommend if you are looking for some good Italian in the cbd!

How do I rate this place 10 out of 5 stars?? One must eat at Jamie’s Italian to know the true meaning of food pleasure. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the $40 lunch deal. Such great value for a 5-star three course meal and a beverage! I had the Truffle tagliatelle: handmade pasta served in silky black truffle butter with aged parmesan, nutmeg & more shaved black truffle, and I also ate Spaghetti Alla Norma: a Sicilian pasta dish of eggplant, chilli and basil in a rich tomato pasta sauce w/ hard ricotta. 🤤 My photos don’t do it justice. There was also a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert but I was too involved and forgot to take a picture.

Been here several times and the food is very hit and miss. Had aranchini which was terribly dry. Truffle fries also a miss. Good pasta and good with a group to try loads of stuff and work out what you like.

Friendly staff, delicious food and it feels like food that your mum's cook for dinner. The place was busy, packed and it feels very cosy. The steak was really good, packed with flavours. I closed my eyes while eating the steak while on a date, it was that good. Worth to try!

The Downside was the price, it was pretty expensive for a steak, 49 dollars for one but it was worth it!

Would recommend for date/dinner!
Annee
Food was good, the squid ink pasta was really nice only downside would be expecting more from this place n seating is small

Happy to come back again and try the new menu as it has been a few years
Taste
The service was slow, staff unapproachable and there were not enough wait staff compared to the size of the restaurant.

The entrée squid was recommended but was just okay. The salt and pepper squid at the local pub is better. The pastas were bad. It was edible but unenjoyable. The octopus (ragu) was overcooked if you could find them buried under a mountain of pasta. The tomato sauce in the prawn pasta tasted like sauce out of a can. The prawn looked and tasted like frozen prawn you buy in a bag at a grocery store.

The bathrooms were maintained poorly, as soon as you opened the door to the bathroom area, the corridors stank like sewerage.

It was a disappointing experience, so poor that I would not give it another try.
Jessie Wu
Always come here when they have their amazing specials! The pasta is all freshly made and the right textures are all there. The prawn fettuccine has a hint of chilli that really makes the dish pop while the truffle tagliatelle is the perfect creamy and buttery and earthy combination.
Issa
Finally tried one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants! His dishes are as good as how it looks on TV! The pizza, the pasta, even the fries are to die for!

I went there with my partner on a date. The staff was very helpful with the menu, the wine from Italy was amazing. If I had to recommend one dish it would be the primavera ravioli.
Good service and good food is what we expected and that's what we got.

Honestly one of the best restaurants I have visited in a while.

Had hopes for this place, and they certainly were fulfilled. From the service, to the menu, to the ambience of the restaurant - Jamie’s ticked it all. Made a reservation for 630 and got seated earlier than expected with our menus - a wide variety of Italian items to choose from. We settled for the ultimate garlic bread, lamb ravioli & our famous prawn linguine.

Food was surprisingly fast (much longer than expected) and we were out of the restaurant before 730 at the latest. My dish was absolutely amazing - pasta was fresh and the lamb filling was amazing - would have ordered two if I could🤣 Definitely recommend coming here!!

Food recommendation: lamb ravioli🍽

Pictured below: (forget the name of the rosé sorry but it was the first one listed on the drink menu), non-alcoholic ginger mojito, lamb ravioli, ultimate garlic bread & our famous prawn linguine.
WHAT ITALIAN RESTAURANT DOES NOT HAVE PIZZA.
I was waiting with a friend for a table for 2, but we waited at the front counter for around 15 minutes. We then decided to walk further in, so that a waitress could see us and serve us. A few minutes later, one waitress finally noticed us, but sent us back to the front, telling us to wait for a table there. After another 5 minutes, a person served us and asked if we had a booking, we said no, and she unapologetically said we had to wait around 30-45 minutes.

I immediately thought of leaving, because we already wasted 20 minutes just waiting for someone to serve us. However, my friend noticed empty countertops along the bar and asked if we could sit there. The waitress said yes, but we'd have to order at the bar. That was totally fine by me because atleast we could have a seat and be served. I was just shocked that she didn't even offer that as a suggestion and that my friend had to come up with the idea.

Once we were seated, we quickly ordered at the bar, the food took a standard 15 minutes to come out which I was fine with. However, the pasta definitely did not live up to its Jamie Oliver name. Both of ours were warm, on the fence of cold, as if it were sitting on the table for a while.

One try is enough, will not be returning.

Pretty underwhelming experience. Food was quite bland (although I may have just been unlucky with my order). Had the truffle pasta, and it has very little flavour. I couldn't taste any truffle, and the only other ingredients seemed to be a tiny bit of cheese and some oil.

The size of the olives and bread were tiny relative to the price. Service was generally quite good, but the food was very disappointing. I may try again and order something else to see if I was just unlucky, but I'm not in any particular rush

Jamie’s Italian was thoroughly average. The staff were slow to attend and weren’t really approachable, attentive or here to establish any sort of rapport with you. The atmosphere was fine but the poor service didnt do any favours. We ordered the nachos and Arrancini balls as entree and they were both yummy and a nice twist on traditional flavours. However the two pasta dishes we order, the crab meat spaghetti and the Sicilian flavoured spaghetti, were thoroughly average to below average. I personally wouldn’t recommend these two dishes, let alone the entire experience.

Very very disappointed and would not come back
Jo
A quick bite here. Couldn’t go past home made pasta ... which was perfection. Al dente and full of flavour. The truffle sauce was delicious but a little heavy. All in all delicious.

So... this was a last minute dining choice... on a Monday night... though why not... a cold night we could use some comfort food... warming pasta... make sure to have a booking, otherwise a 20min wait even though restaurant isn’t full... we chose to sit at the front and order from the bar... same menu... service was quick.. the carbonara, calamari fritti and tomato bruschetta... can I say the entrees were the highlight... calamari perfect and tomato bruschetta with so much flavour! The carbonara however was dry, slightly under cooked pasta and the rigatoni too big for this dish... left most of it in the bowl! Would I come back? Probably not...

I was here with my friend to celebrate a birthday. I would say perfect ambience and a warm cozy decor.
Food was average and drinks were good. Friendly staff who served food on time.

This is the place my missus and I went for our first date on 2014 and continue to dine in until now.
It was the first proper Italian restaurant she had and been loving it ever since.
Love the ambience and the atmosphere. Lights are a bit dim and if u sit upstairs at the end you can actually watch the chef inside the kitchen cooking the dishes. It’s kind of like a open kitchen. Tables downstairs are a bit too near to each other and if it gets busy, you can actually overhear the conversation of the people next to yours. So sometimes we choose to sit upstairs or have our meal before their peak hour of dinner starts.
Food is great they have choices of small portion of pasta and normal size. Missus always the small size to starts with and gets the Slow Roast Porchetta after that.
I love the octopus-ink pasta but they stop having that few years ago.
We always get the Crispy Polenta and Funky Chips to nibble on before starting on our entrees.
Staff are excellent train and friendly. They really take care of each and every tables well and nice. No matter how busy it gets, they alway have a smile on their face and work in a steady manner. I’ve never seen the place understaff before both front and back of the house.
Fully recommend this place !!

I'm not sure why Jamie's has been struggling over the last few years. We've been coming here for the past 4 years. The food is not always mind-blowing (although it did happen a few times!) but I find that it is consistently good here and we never had a bad meal. Been here for lunch and dinner, weekday and weekend, for $10 dishes and full priced meals and it's always busy. I like the modern setting and the service is always excellent. I also like the fact that the menu changes and it's not always the same.

Ordered “OUR FAMOUS PRAWN LINGUINE” and “CARBONARA”, undercooked and taste like rubber, worse place ever. Service is horrible.not worth to try. Save money for better pasta place.
Laura Cohen
Came here first for a Wednesday lunch after seeing their $10 pasta specials - the place was not full at all and we were given our menus and a nice table. We ordered the crab pasta and pea-shoot ravioli which were absolutely delicious, and accompanied them with the deep-fried ravioli entree that was pleasantly surprisingly and equally delicious. Had it not been for the $10 special, I probably would not have come and paid their usual prices but for the special, they were quite nice. The service became a little lazier as it took 20 minutes to get the tiniest scoop of ice cream I have ever seen but it was still nice. The second time I came it was a lot busier and the service was very slow - the food was not as good but still okay for the special prices. Probably won't be coming again but worth the try!
Elisa Li
The first time I came here for lunch was way back in 2013. Came here again for dinner since they had the $10 pasta special. The wait is definitely long for a Saturday night since they only accept walk ins for the special, but managed to get in after 2ish hours. (Long overdue post, but really don't care haha).

I was sorely disappointed to find out that Jamie's Italian in Sydney does not serve pizzas. This is one of the main reasons behind my low rating for this place.

Moving on from the disappointment, the service here was pretty good. It was easy to make a reservation and I was quickly shown to my table. Luckily, I arrived before it became extremely busy at the height of lunch service.

I wanted to order from their lunch sets but the items I wanted were both in the appetizer section and was not allowed to combine then as a two-course meal. I decided to order a la carte instead.

The Caprese salad was good, and it was a good serving size to start off a meal. The flavors were spot on and there was a good cheese-tomato-basil ratio.

The Truffle Tagliatele I had next was just okay. The pasta was cooked nice and al dente but there was something lacking in the sauce. It wasn't creamy enough and the truffle aroma was quite mild. I know you should never overdo truffles but I needed a stronger kick on this one. The serving was also quite small. I thought I would not be able to eat more but I was left wanting after this course.

It doesn't help that the Porchetta took a very long time to arrive. I must have waited close to half an hour between the pasta and the Porchetta. I can find no fault in the Porchetta. The skin was crispy and the meat was juicy and flavorful. Serving size was also good for one person as a main.

Overall, I still enjoyed my meal. However, in comparison to other branches from this chain, it was not the best.
Eve Cole
For a reputable restaurant that only serves Italian I expected more. The sauces were quite plain and the texture of the gnocchi was chewy. There were also three items not available from the pasta menu and it was only 6pm. I did enjoy the caprese salad.
Constant Cravings
Came here for a weekday lunch and you can choose 1 course for $25 so I got the bolognese. It was not bad but it was missing something. Maybe more seasoning? The portion was pretty big

This is a pretty good Italian restaurant for some nice pasta. The service is always friendly and helpful. My favourite dish is the spicy sausage pappardelle which is very meaty and the pasta really nicely cooked. I also liked the margherita arancini balls which were cheesy and delicious.
Jason Lay
For rustic Italian food, it’s hard to go past this place. Bang on flavour, excellent vibes and attentive staff. The antipasti board was succulent, Arancini got the taste buds going, pasta was simple but on point and the smiles were large. Great for group dining or even better for date night
Pilip Vernando
I went there when they had few $10 menu and the dessert.
So me n my partner had Truffle tagliatelle , prawn linguine, pumpkin ravioli, sweet potato fries and strawberry cheesecake (if not mistaken). Overall the food was okay just the sweet potato fries a little bit burned but the service was amazing.
I would love to go there again .
Thank you for taking ur time to read my review 🙂

Great place for a quick catch up. Service is fast, friendly, and easy on the wallet too. Food is delish! I really enjoyed the popcorn brownie - sooo good. If you’re after an Italian fix or a nice lunch, I recommend Jamie’s😊

Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Price: 10/10

Overall: 7/10

We came here during one of the Jamie's $10 dinner weeks which explains the high price score. We did book well in advance to reserve a good seating time however.

The service upon arrive and throughout the night was good, fairly standard from what you'd expect a nicer restaurant to have. During the $10 dinner weeks there's a rotating menu of a few pastas you can get; I opted for the prawn spaghetti which was simple yet flavoursome. The pasta was cooked extremely well, but I thought the prawns could've been better - some seemed more cooked than others... Generally the texture of them just seemed a bit inconsistent.

However couldn't complain for the price and the pleasant dining experience.

So i’m gonna start with the positives: The service!! Was lovely, our server was attentive and really fantastic. My superfood salad was also very lovely, could have used more greens and less quinoa.
But the Negatives: My best friends steak was underwhelming, $35 for a cut full of fat, She asked for medium rare and it was medium to well. It wasn’t very good for that price.
The main thing that was awful was the dirty table, I wiped my napkin (pictured) shocked at the grime.
Not good for a franchise that has Jamie Oliver’s name.
Tracey
We order the ‘Famous Prawn Linguine’ for lunch. It was during the $10 pasta month promotion and we got the large sized portions. Overall, it was nice, they did put heaps of rocket in my plate and the sauce was a tad bitter for my taste. However, I don’t think it is worth the usual $32 price tag.

We waited for a table of 4 for about 40 minutes during peak hour lunch time on a Sunday, so I will recommend either booking a table beforehand.

food not that great but nice customer service ! i usually like italian food so i was a little disappointed coming here . expected alot more .

It’s been a while since my last review, but I’ve eaten at many good places in the past month, and Jaime’s Italian was one of those places. We went for the $10 pasta deal that we’ve heard so much about and we were very satisfied with the food and the service.

We ordered the crab spaghetti and the vegetarian tagliatelle and both were delicious and a good size for $10. We also got some calamari, which was a bit small and sad looking and pricey given that it was barely a couple of mouthfuls for us. The dessert was spectacular though, I basically died and went to heaven after eating the Cheesecake slice. The brownie was equally delicious and so decadent.

I think considering the deal, this was great for a night out. Normally I’d say the prices are a tad expensive but the desserts are definitely more than worth coming back here again!
Dashmit Aurora
We Ordered the octopus ravioli and prawn linguini. Found it to be very bland. The taste could have been better as Jamie's is known for its pastas and ravioli. However, the service was too notch.
Lady Foody
Came here for the $10 pasta special but came out feeling mixed about Jamie's Italian.

We ordered the octopus ravioli and the prawn linguine, and even though the linguine is supposed to be the famous dish, we found that it was lacking seasoning and overall flavour.

However the octopus ravioli was cooked perfectly. The sauce had the complexity of flavours that I was looking for in the dish and was powerful next to the watery linguine. The filling was also a great accompaniment to the strong tomato and seafood sauce. But would I pay $32 for it? Most likely not.

Still, the octopus ravioli was the highlight and I do not think you can do wrong ordering this. There is very little crab meat though.

Pros:
- Food was excellent
- Presentation was nice
Cons:- Staff made a few small errors but they might be understaffed or overworked.
- Seating is cramped
Janette Castle
Good service but very noisy so not good for large groups as you end up yelling at each other.
Appertisers and starters were fine. Steak totally missed the mark. Tiramisu was delicious. Probably wouldn't rush back.
Pinicolada
I had the crab spaghetti and three cheese ravioli. The mint sweet peas was a nice touch to the ravioli on an otherwise oily and heavy dish. Small servings for the price. Dark and noisy surroundings.

Jamie Oliver has been a figure in culinary world I have looked up to for a very long time. The entrees/nibbles at the start lived up to the expectation in the form of Garlic bread. The bread was soft and tender with fine shavings of cheese with a hint of garlic. It set us up nicely for the mains. Along with the garlic bread, cocktails like Amalfi Punch and Amaretto sour are a must. In the mains, the Primevera ravioli, carbonara and crab spaghetti is worth trying. Unfortunately, they did not wow us for the very reason we were there. The vegetarian bolognese was quite mediocre. I know! I know! Who orders Vege bolognese?! right? Well, just needed to try it. After the mains we called for the cheque. The cheque arrived and we changed our minds. We called for deserts!! YES! It was the best decision taken in the history of ordering food. The tiramisu and chocolate brownie was shared between 5 people. It was the best Tiramisu we have had. It was gooey and full of flavour in the mouth. Next time at Jamie's we are going to order one main and share and call for one desert each. Not a bad place to try once.
Wannabe Foodie
I have been to Jamie's before and I disliked the pasta. This was before Jamie bought his restaurant back. I got myself some crab spaghetti and it was delicious. The pasta sauce tasted homemade and had so many layers to it. There was also just enough spaghetti for lunch, considering that I paid $10 for it.

Really quick service even whilst the place was packed!! The food was good but not great it lacked quite a bit of flavour.
Servers were great

AMBIENCE =3.5
SERVICE = 3.0
FOOD = 3.5

Jamies italian is a great italian place. This is one of the first branches in Australia. Keep coming back this place and the nachos are the best. The pasta is done really well. Thr truffle pasta is amazing.

Friendly staff and great food and drinks presentation of food was awesome and the service could have been faster waiting time for the table could have been faster even though the food on the kids menu was not a lot
The kids food was for free
CATHY
Food
The crab & avocado bruschetta was delicious, however was extremely small, about the size of a child's hand. The two pastas we got were average & my boyfriend got a large size pasta and was not full at all.

Atmosphere
The second level is quite dim and romantic, more suitable for couples. The downstairs level was a bit more lively and more suitable for large groups.

Service
THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! The waitress we got was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Expected much better service from a restaurant like this.
Ca Ho
Whilst the ambience and staff are top notch warm, friendly and professional, I was disappointed by the food. The bread was so hard I could not cut through it even though, no doubt, delivered fresh that day. Great save by the waiter. The bland arancini replacement, main meal and dessert though beautifully presented did not leave a lasting memory I am afraid. With top location and everything going for the brand the food let you down, I am afraid I will not be back.
Famishedduo
Great atmosphere of the restaurant with the bar located and the front and seating of the restaurant on two levels! If your feeling like spoiling yourself for lunch or dinner and craving italian! Look no further! We had the pasta which was great. We are definitely keen to come back and try the rest of the menu!
Brunonono...
So Worlds Best Olives huh..?! Yes Sicilian Olives are the best but are these the best Olives...? No we've had better in Spain...

Besides that $25 Two Course lunch can't really complain cause well...that's pretty good value for Saturday lunch, I don't know if I would comeback but I would certainly say you should give it a try!

First time I have ever felt compelled to write a review. Service was good, Flavour ok, the menu was misleading on some items, especially the steak (it should have been labelled minute steak with grated carrot and McDonalds Fries), crab pasta had very little crab meat. Was very expensive for the quality and quantity of food you get. Very disappointed as I and the party I was with (fathers birthday) had higher expectations from a restaurant with a world renowned chefs name on the door. You can get much better Italian food at other restaurants with more reasonable prices. Enzo Trattoria at Chipping Norton would be a suggestion.

Went here for the second time hoping it’s as good as the firsf time. Too bad it didn’t meet my expectation. The second thing is we found plastic in the squid but thanks to the waiter who changed it for us.

Sydney’s was the first restaurant from the Jamie Olivier’s franchise we have ever been to. The place looks fantastic, it was pretty big, though pleasantly cosy. We picked two lunch sets with glass of house wines - red and white. Food was more than decent, me wife did win with me with food selection - we got truffle tagliatelle and tomato bruschetta as appetizers, then chicken club burger (slightly dry) and barramundi (perfectly fried) and chocolate browni and pana cotta as a desserts. Worth recommending.

My best friend is a huge fan of Jamie Oliver and I was just super excited when my colleagues decided this for my farewell lunch!! Sweet colleagues 🤗🤗
So most of us selected the 3course set menu and it was nice to have options to choose with in that.
I chose the set menu solely because I saw brownie with icecream on the list😜
If you see the picture and notice that the popcorn is all over the place, I hadn't touched it when I took this photo...they somehow lost the patience to plate it decently for a 15ppl table🤦🏻‍♀️
Otherwise, the food was good, not excellent but just good.
The dessert not only disappointed with the plating, but also with the dry brownie and hard popcorn🤷🏻‍♀️

For $30, this was a good bargain, but for a normal Italian restaurant.

A pleasant place to eat, quite quiet in off-peak times and very loud and busy at dinner time. The breadboard is a good starter to share, and there are lots of great looking options on the menu. It's also nice that pasta can be ordered in the 'entree' size or in the 'main' size. If you're having other entrees or you can't handle a lot of carbs, I would get the pasta in the smaller entree size. I ordered the vegetarian bolognese with tagliatelle - the lentil based bolognese sauce was very nice, and the pasta itself was well cooked. The dish did lack a bit of flavour though. Staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. There's also a great selection of drinks. A good place to visit with friends or with a date.

Service was poor as the food took forever to come only to find out later that it went to the wrong table. Also the food bland in taste, especially the tiramisu
Xlittlecupcake
Very disappointing. The pasta here is nothing special, and the sauce lacks flavour/is too salty. Don't bother coming here for the pasta, just make it yourself at home. Will not be back.
Snapshots Of Food
The last time I was at Jamie's Italian was a couple years ago. We were seated at the top level and remembered that the pasta dish was quite ordinary. Fast forward a couple years and we thought to give it another try!. Crunchy Italian Nachos. We started off with some sides which included the crunchy Italian nachos. The crispy fried three-cheese ravioli was served with spicy Sicilian tomato sauce. We don't know how to feel about this dish.. the "Italian Nachos" were quite dry and the only saving grace of this dish was the sauce. When we read "Italian Nachos" on the menu, I guess we were expecting something else.

Came here for their $10 promotional pasta. The pasta was nice and the flavours generally worked well together. But if you are paying the full price ($32 per dish), I do not think you are getting your money's worth especially when considering the quality as well as the portion size of the dishes. You can get better pasta in Sydney at that price point.
I also found that their environment is noisy and slightly cramped. The waitress that served us was also slightly rude and not very pleasant in general.

Inconsistent with his way of cooking we have come to expect from Jaimie Oliver. The portions were incredibly small and some of our dishes tasted a bit off. Service was very rushed.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Nice deco and warm atmosphere in the restaurant. Staff were extremely friendly. Food was above average however you will be disappointed by the small portion. Walked out hungry.

Who does not recognize Jamie? I have conversations with my colleagues over his cookbooks and discussions over his latest TV programmes. Italian cuisine is very much loved in Australia but the rudimentary and spineless attempt to recreate Italian cuisines were disappointing and treacherous whether at the renowned Buon Ricardo or the newer Otto Ristorante. Jamie’s Italian is one such venture.

Owned by the Pacific Restaurant Group (the same guys behind Kingsley’s and Chophouse), the popular restaurant on Pitt Street features a gorgeous industrial interior decorated with wooden tables and furniture and warm overhead lights.

I ordered their signature prawn linguine for entree. The linguine was freshly made in-house and I could taste the immediate difference between Jamie’s pastas and other pretentious outlets (Italian Bowl or Moretti). The springy linguine was served with fried garlic prawns, fennel, tomatoes, chilli, saffron and fish broth. To be honest, this is the best pasta in town. The wonderful combination of saffron and fish broth makes the linguine so flavourful and appetizing. However, I wonder why low-grade, stale and mushy prawns were used in such a popular restaurant when a neighbourhood Thai eatery could drop 8 to 10 fresh king prawns in their hearty Pad Thai and costs $12-$14, I could not fathom how an internationally reputable chef could destroy his signature dishes with poorly procured ingredients.

Next, the Sicilian Chicken, which comprises half a free range chicken in spicy tomato, eggplant and black olive sauce, is another classic Jamie’s dish. The delicious and tender chicken was enhanced by the fresh tomatoes and olives. However, sections of the grilled chicken was charred and the breast meat was probably tough and under-marinated.

I've always wanted to try Jamie's and it did not disappoint! 😁 We started with their Italian Nachos and Porcini Arancini which are both incredible! We had their pastas, the Spanish Sausage Fusilli and their famous Prawn Linguine. I must say, they are perfectly cooked and the sauces were really good. The Jamie's Italian Burger and Italian Steak and Fries were good too, but I prefer their pastas compared to the mains. Would definitely be back to try the rest of what their menu offers ❤

Such a massive fan of Jamie's! Love the atmosphere of the Pitt St location and food is fantastic! Personally prefer the entree's to the mains, but I think it is all great. As I mentioned in my review of the trattoria in Parramatta, we ordered pretty much the same things- the arrancini margherita, antipasti classic meat board, mushroom fritti, crunchy italian nachos and crispy squid. Have been to this location several times and still get excited when someone suggests heading there. Fantastic service, amazing food and a beautiful atmosphere!! Would definitely recommend checking them out!

Fantastic food and service
My super fussy 9 year old, loved all the food on offer, loved the kids meat balls!! I personly loved the bursetta, crap pasta and the brownie for desert

Solid food and good experience recently with friends and colleagues. Staff are always great and would recommend for a not too fancy and consistent meal. Well done jamie.

I don't understand what is the big fuzz with this place, didn't understood the food, plates very plain and poor flavour. I tried different things, I kinda liked the garlic bread. Good staff, attentive and professional but the food is a big buuuu. I won't coming back any time soon
Artifad
They have nice simple food and good lunch options. I would totally recommend for a casual lunch in CBD once in Sydney. However, would choose Mejico which is located next door any time of the day =)

We ordered the pasta special(ricotta tortellini with a cream and truffle sauce topped with shaved truffle), the crab spaghetti, the prawn linguini as well as a side of chilli rubbed fries.

Firstly the tortellini was served and we were both very surprised that it was 3 pieces of tortellini for the price of $27. I just thought, you know what it must be good and I don't mind. Sadly as we bit into one, the pasta dough itself was so undercooked and hard where it was sealed. There was also little to no filling in it, not something I would recommend.

The next issue we had was that the crab pasta although not mentioned in the description, was a tomato based sauce much like the prawn linguini. It wouldn't have been a big deal if I didn't have an allergy to tomatoes. I ended up ordering the carbonara and letting my partner eat both the spaghetti and linguini. (He did say the linguini was again under cooked and the spaghetti had much more flavour)

Last of all, the fries never came. Ever. I was truly excited about the fries! We told the waiter when we asked for the bill and he said he would take it off our bill. No apologies though, nothing of that sort.

Would I go back? Nope
Would I recommend? Nah

Came here on a Saturday for lunch. For the $25 super lunch special (entree + main) I ordered the truffle tagliatelle for entree, and spaghetti vongole for main. Unfortunately entree was quite disappointing, being very heavy and creamy yet lacking in any depth in flavour that even salt could not carry. The texture of the pasta was nice though. I also got to try some of the silky pate bruschetta and that delicious so I would recommend that for entree instead. Thankfully, main was better. The vongole was light and clean with a generous amount of pipis. The steak on the other hand that I tried was quite dry and chewy although it had been flash grilled. Service throughout was friendly and professional and the ambiance was nice. Overall, it was a decent dining experience but nothing amazing.

Good place to go for a easy and consistent meal. Would recommend. Staff are friendly and food is simple enough. Been there five times with work and will keep going.

Late dinner on a weeknight, so no need to queue. Surprise that the place is still pretty busy inside, and having a buzzy vibe. Service was prompt (a bit forced friendly). We got some arancini, the prawn linguine, fresh crab spaghetti (both pasta entree size), and some greens side. All the food came out at once, which was ok except they hardly fit onto our small table, felt cramp and had to be careful we don't knock over things while we eat. Food quality wise was ok, about average, there are much better (and cheaper) Italian food out there. On the whole, it's still a good venue for a casual catch up, but definitely not worth queue & a long wait for.

I've been wanting to try Jamie's Italian for a few years now. The opportunity came when the $10 pasta special of the week was offered.

The special at the time was the spaghetti carbonara which was nice and silky but nothing special about it (it is still on the menu). It also lacked a bit of seasoning, just a bit of salt and pepper but that was fine so people can adjust it to how they like their food seasoned.

I'm not sure if I would personally pay the full-price for it but I'm glad I got to try it. The restaurant had been too hyped up in the beginning and it is slightly still hyped up. I do want to go back to try more of their pasta but it's not at the top of my foodie list at the moment.

The standout for me was actually the truffle chips. Crispy and fragrant and perfect for any truffle lovers out there.

Hyped place. Service is good but the food is very average. The place is one of those you go once and your forget about it.
Nothing great about it.

One of my favourites go to places when confused of what to eat, as the menu offers a wide range. The service is friendly and the servers are very well trained and knowledge

Nice ambience, foods not too bad. I wouldn't wait if I didn't booked for a table. Portion is a little small.

http://curiousawa.com/2017/06/07/jamies-italian-sydney/

Pros: Good ambiance

Cons:
- Bad service - had to follow up on our order. It took 40 mins to get food to our table.
- Ordered the prawn linguine, which was quite bland
- Charged us a 12.5% service fee without any warning prior to the booking or confirmation from us. Only realised when we got our receipt. Don't believe a 12.5% fee was reasonable considering how bad the service was.

Delicious food.. lived upto m n my husband's expectation... had it been on the scale, i would have given this place a 10 .. good crowd, good people, good service and most importantly delicious food...

I like Jamie's Italian - it's not the absolute best Italian around but it's not bad either - the share plates are good, loved the polenta chips and prawn pasta. Daughter loved the kids menu with the binoculars

Decided to try Jamie's with one of the best critics possible, my traditional Italian parents. The restaurant itself is very rustic and industrial, with a low lighting that just gives it an amazing ambiance. However that's as far as the positives went. When we dined there, the food was very salty and heavy on the garlic, there was not much depth in flavour. Mixed with the extremely high pricing and the small portions .... the Italian parentals and I were not very satisfied.
Alessandro Del Piero
Very average pasta. Still it's packed I dont't know why. Design of the resto was alright. Price performance falls short. I don't think I will go there again.
Vicki Fu
Way below standard.. tiny portions, super expensive for non existent ingredients, eg. 5 pieces of raviolis for $32, No taste of truffle in the truffle fries, hardly any crab in the crab spaghetti. Very very disappointed, will not be returning.
Chloe
A staff member bumped into one of my friends, knocking her drink to the floor. He instantly cleaned it up, apologised, and made several drinks for us all as an apology. I was very impressed with his service, and the way he handled a potentially awkward situation. The mains were all quite good, although the brownie was sickly sweet

My boyfriend and I used to come here every so often a few years back and loved it! We went again tonight and the food was just ok. The tagliatelle was really thick and buttery...no truffle flavour at all. The Arancini balls had really gluggy rice and the italian nachos is ravioli with pasta sauce to dip...like you'd feed a child. I don't know what happened to the old menu but it's definitely lacking the quality it used to have.

We booked and made special mention of an anniversary occasion which was not acknowledged (why ask then). We waited over 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order . In a really explosive and exciting Sydney food market, with really high standards, we found the food and quality below average, after sending the crab spaghetti back for lack of crab and general quality not great for what we paid. After our waitress passed our empty plates 3 times, we resorted to calling her over to ask to clear our table. I will definitely not recommend nor will I be back. So terribly disappointed after going to a restaurant associated with a famous name that affiliates themselves with low cost high quality food, we received high cost, low quality food and bad service which was a complete rip off .
George Jreije
Was a bit surprised with the quality of the food produced by a restaurant that should be well recognised. Food was okay, nothing inventive or worth bragging about. Definitely overpriced for the portion size.
Nana
Jamie's Italian did not disappoint!

My friend and I came here on the super lunch deal (order by 6PM and the deal sustains!) which was $25 for two courses (pick out of entree main dessert).

The food was pretty damn good - we ordered 2 entrees (truffle risotto was a bit salty but calamari was great) and 2 mains - spinach ricotta ravioli in marinara and I can't spell the other one but it was a really thick and curly pasta in meat sauce. Both were great :-)

The atmosphere and setting of the restaurant is really tops - two levels with a mezzanine overlooking the lower level.

Overall good vibes and would come again :-)

The service was pretty good. The waiter or waitress was polite, respectful and efficient. For a meal that costed around $45 per person, I expect such standards. The veal was very tender and soft. As soon as you place it into your mouth, you can just feel it melt away into juicy nothingness. Be aware however that if you are someone who eats more than the average person, you may have to order 1.5 meals (i.e. order 3 mains for one person). Their dessert, though limited in choice, was better than I expected. The tiramisu had an adequate but not overbearing coffee taste. I wouldn't come here for an average meal and thus, I have higher expectations of such places.

Do I think it's worth the price? Depends. Yes if you only come here once every 6 months. No if you plan coming here more frequently. There are cheaper alternatives.
Did it taste good? Definitely

Jamie's Italian for one reason or another, isn't doing as well these days. Not sure why because I had a blast. The restaurant itself had a warm and friendly atmosphere, a blend of industrial chic and rustic Italian. I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese which was hearty and robust, a perfect winter dish. I guess my only criticism is that things were a little on the pricey side? But otherwise I had a great time.

The food is very good but what makes Jamie's great is the customer service . The manager ( I wish I could remember his name) was outstanding in his accommodation for dieting one of our guests ( gluten intolerant ) .. no problem. This man was brilliant and what he is is what is replicated with his staff . What a great experience we had.
