Come here often (used to work next door) and I have never been disappointed. Excellent pizzas with thin and crispy base next to a bar - Perfect for Friday lunch.
If you are fan of light thin based pizzas, then look no further as GPO pizzas tasty but yet light. You don't walk away having feel weighed down as per some other pizzas. Highly recommended. Nice place blending modern and the historic GPO.
First and foremost, Wood's pizza has gotta be the best thin crust pizza in Sydney. Super crunchy wood-fired oven flavour crust.
Now, let's talk about the pizza. We ordered three large pizza and I can pretty much say they are all good. Simple yet oozing with flavours of Italy.
Salame Peccante - this is Wood's version of pepperoni pizza with extra black olives thrown for added flavour. One can never go wrong with a pepperoni pizza and Wood nailed this one without complicating the flavour.
Napoli - it has anchovies and I so love it. The anchovies perfectly cut through the cheese filled, red sauce base pizza.
Prosciutto and Funghi - I wouldn't order this one again. A little bland for my liking to be honest. I can't really taste the prosciutto in this pizza.
Recommended to us as 'the best pizza in Sydney' from our close and reliable Sydney peeps, so expectations were sky high. We were not disappointed! Great pizzas right in the middle of the CBD. Perfect place for after work drinks as it's super chilled yet has a welcoming corporate feel. Simple pizza flavours are done well and the base is amazingly crispy and thin.
Very nice food and service. One of my most visited lunch spot with my team. Their pizza range is not massive but there is always one for everyone. They r always very generous with toppings amd cheese.
GPO is an interesting place – it stands for “General Post Office” and indeed, to this day, there is actually an Australia Post there so the function still exists. For the most part however, it is home to the lower echelons of Macquarie Bank, but more importantly, home to a very impressive selection of restaurants, of which Prime is one. If you’ve read my review of Prime, you’ll realise that I quite liked it, despite its rather…exuberant prices (check this article out).
Luckily, GPO is the kind of places that delivers the same par of quality, but for much more reasonable prices. It is pizza, so it’s on a different level, but the sentiment is all the same. If you can’t resist a good pizza, you do yourself quite the disservice by not paying GPO a visit or three…
Not long after most of us had returned to Sydney from our fab NYC trip, some of us who live in Sydney decided to meet up for pizza. When we were in Brooklyn, we had pizza at Grimaldi's (see Brooklyn and Grimaldi's ) and NC claimed at that point in time that the pizza at GPO was much better. Well, we decided to take her up on her claim and we met up at GPO Pizza for dinner one Thursday night. It was lovely to see my travel mates again. Deja vu hit me big time! There was AW, NC AND JN and we ordered a few pizzas as we chatted and caught up with each other. I had not eaten at any of the outlets in GPO prior to this evening. I didn't even realise there was even a concept of a food court in the GPO building. But now I know! I quite liked the open dining area and felt quite happy that I could sit anywhere and order from any of the outlets. The final round up of our Sydney food adventure! I managed to score us a cheap pair of tickets to see The Lion King musical in Sydney and thought it’d be something nice to see and look forward to whilst we were away on holiday. Before the show, we had quick pre theatre meal at GPO Pizza by Wood inside the General Post Office in Sydney on Martin Street. This place boasts to have the best woodfired pizzas in the Sydney CBD. Pizzas are made to order so we were pleasantly surprised that our order came out so quickly! Having said that, we would have liked it to stay in the oven a tad bit longer as we found the base, although thin, was a bit chewy and needed a bit more time to crisp up. Best wood fire pizza and quick service !
My boyfriend and I were planning to go to Subsolo for dinner one night, but it was booked out when we arrived. We were so hungry, so we wanted to have something nearby our hotel to eat. I came across GPO Pizza By Wood on Urbanspoon and decided to give it a shot. I had never seen a classy building having pretty much a classy food court before. It was interesting to see. The pizzas weren't too bad. And the bruschetta wasn't that bad either.
Great, authentic pizza. We came in at Monday lunchtime, but were able to find a table to sit at without issue.
Really good pizza. Very authentic - good dough, quality, minimal toppings, and cooked for only a couple of minutes.
It was a little pricey for the sizes, and if ordering a small pizza, you'd be wise to order a salad or entree because chances are you won't be full. But it's good quality, and delicious, it a lovely setting, being the GPO.
A very busy night on Friday after work, but very nicely surprised that our food showed up after 10minutes when we were initially informed of a half hour wait. Our pizza was adequately topped and the salad was very fresh. The only downfall of this sort of place is searching for a seat.
