The cafe / bar is stunning, in an old industrial style setting. Sit down service is great. It’s popular for pre-work breakfast meetings. It’s a good place to set up your laptop for a while as it feels very private and is not too noisy. Morning coffee takeaway is busy, but they are efficient. More keep ups than you usually see passing over the counter.
I wish there were an option for 4.5 because Blacksmith fits it perfectly. I ordered for the Veggie Smitty Burger before arriving at the place as I was running late, when I reached there I had to wait for like two mins at max, and my order was ready. I had customised my burger without egg, and they add avocado instead! Only a few cafes understand how to go above and beyond to impress a customer. Blacksmith is one of them!
I’ve mentioned it before in my blogs but I have great admiration for ANY restaurant in Sydney that has staying power. It’s a tough business, a tough market, and lots of work. Blacksmith in Surry Hills has staying power, and seems to be ticking along nicely making great food in a fun atmosphere.
Very well decorated place. I like their Asian inspired menu. I ordered the kim chi rice which were quite tasty. Service was friendly and approachable. Would come back for more!
Probably THE best cafe in Sydney. Great coffee, great selection and quality eats. The decor is funky blacksmith industrial, backed up by staff amazing peeps..all round excellent!
Honestly probably one of the best takes on the egg benny I've had in quite a while....how they do their cheeky rosti of "kimchi" is just so good! Pulled pork and the edamame along with probably the best yuzu hollandaise this year yes "it's been quite the trend"
The tri coloured quinoa however was a bit of let down and tasted quite ubiquitous and lacked any flair that made it "special"....was it bad? No. But not in the same league as the benny...
A place I'd recommend for the benny....and yes we will be back for it and maybe for the French toast next time?
Grungy looking cafe in Surry Hills conveniently located near Central train station. Met up with my boss for coffee. He had the avocado & smashed edamame for lunch, looked great and sounded very different! My coffee was good too. Very busy during lunch time!
We went to this cafe for my birthday with friends. We were 20 and they accept booking, which is nice and not all the restaurants are accepting it even more during weekends. We all appreciated the food there. As much the sweet meal than the savouries.
I enjoyed so much my Apple and Cinammon french toast. With a lot of fruits and perfectly baked. They have a lot of original dishes with jalapeno or beer braised pork that I really want to try next time.

Food: My buckwheat soba noodles were amazing - delicious and chewy - but the deconstructed kimbap didn't meet the expectations of two seasoned Korean-loving diners.

Blacksmith cafe is a nicely designed large sized cafe. Close to central station, its convenient location makes it an easy choice for breakfast or lunch. I have visited this cafe several time and have had mixed opinions about the food overall. Coffee is quite mediocre too
Got a chance to visit this place many thanks times as our workplace was just next door and this nice little cafe became our default place for lunch ( mostly take away). Being a vegetarian, i was surprised to note that i have many options to choose from ( Salad/ Sandwich / Soups). My favorite was quinoa/guacamole salad . In short, a nice little place for a quick bite , specially during lunch time.

Other than the occasional police horse, it has been many years since the streets of Surry Hills echoed to the sound of equine hooves. However, thanks the Blacksmith on Chalmers Street, patrons can at least get a small taste (not literally, thankfully) of how said hooves used to be shod.
The venue is a cafe by day and a bar by night and the interior decoration pays homage to the name. Chains and mallets hang from the ceiling and the dimly lit space is defined by metalwork and exposed brick throughout. It's dark, atmospheric and visually appealing.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to stay and sample the full menu, just picking up a chai latte ($3.50) and baklava ($4) to go. The latte was up there with the finest I've had in Sydney (and I've had a few) - strong chai and cinnamon flavours abound. However the baklava was a little disappointing to be honest - the characteristic sweetness of the honey was dominant and the chopped nuts provided some decent texture but the pastry itself lacked crunch and there was a slight staleness from the oil. It was OK (as anything that sweet normally is) but not much more than that.
Blacksmith is one of the best cafes in Mona Vale, and when it was announced that the owners Young Jin Cho and Nami Park were going to be opening a second Blacksmith in Surry Hills, people had big expectations.

It amazes me how such similiar components can always be twisted to make a new product! This combo was awesome and the Cafe do lunch and dinner burgers as well so I'll have to come back soon 👊
The interior is very dark and that is why I chose to sit outside (Cause good lighting = good pictures lol.) I love their cold brew, but I had better cold brews. Their granola is very generous and I love that they chose to separate the milk. All their food presentation are very creative and it creates an interesting brunch experience.

AMAZING 50th birthday celebration - thank you so much, Nami, Sam, Mary Carmen and all the Blacksmith team! 40 of my closest friends and I loved the kindness and attention to detail you showed, from incredible cocktails, soulful singing, delicious food. Unique venue, but what really makes this, is the gorgeous friendly attitude of the staff and professionalism of management - from initial meeting about the idea, tasty food (perfect party size), bespoke cocktails (wicked!), to our sharing a drink at the end of the night. We're a picky crowd, but could not fault your efforts in making this such a happy and memorable special party. My friends (from as far away as Hong Kong, Melbourne..and locals) loved it, including friends there who own a very high end wine bar and restaurant in Sydney and were suitably impressed at the whole running of the event - I told them not to pinch the cocktail ideas! A happy, happy weekend, which I shall remember for a long time, thanks in no small measure to the Blacksmith crew. This venue may call itself a "cafe and bakery"...but I cannot think of a better place to host an intimate private function for your nearest and dearest. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING
A massive all-day breakfast vibe about this place - they love their eggs! That aside, various salad superbowls, wagyu burgers and aioli chips. I've had the kimchi baked eggs - great for clearing the head and the chicken Maryland. The chicken was a nice looking dish and sizeable, albeit a little too dry, while the kimchi baked eggs was a really good dish - recommended if you like some zing. A handful of decent wines to choose from and the rustic industrial-blacksmithy decor gives it a good atmosphere. Staff, too, are friendly and fast.
I can't even detail this review right now because I'm too smashed from the food. Apple Crumble French toast. Do I need to say anything more. No. But I will - french toast with syrup and an apple crumble topping - this was insane. My bro had he smithy breakfast burger; a brioche with egg, bacon, cheese, pickle slaw, beetroot relish. Amazing. Vintage vibe to the place, easy location near central.

I’d been past Blacksmith on a previous visit to Surry Hills and put it on my to visit list – I managed to stop by recently for an early lunch. The space is definitely true to the theme, with assorted ironwork and more rivets than you can poke a stick at. The menu has some exciting options, but, being me, I decided to try the wagyu beef burger ($22), plus a side of sweet potato chips to share ($8). The burger came out on a large platter with a smattering of chips and a small dish of aioli. The burger was piled up so high, and when I squished it down, a whole lot of creamy mayonnaise oozed out – definitely not in the ‘elegant to eat’ burger category. But that mayonnaise was worth saving from the platter, as it was utterly delicious! The patty was a bit diappointing – there were small bits of gristle and the outside wasn’t charred or crisp at all, as I had expected for the price – but the mayo certainly brought the level up a notch. The sweet potato chips were probably the highlight and were generously portioned, to the point where we needed a takeaway bag. I’ll be back to try some of their fun-sounding brunch items.

After going to Blacksmith we found the experience to be enjoyable but didn't blow us away. The interior was definitely praiseworthy with the lovely industrial details and the location is also quite close to central making it an easy commute. The service was decent, where there were some who where more accommodating than other however, they did get one of our orders wrong which is not a good thing. We ordered the siam pulled pork baguette ($15) and the turkey baguette ($15). Whilst the order was wrong with the pulled pork baguette it was pleasant and quite filling. The turkey baguette was a particular favourite due to the lovely ingredients all complementing each other. The hints of jam were particularly nice as it brought a sweet and different flavour to the rest of baguette. Noted that it was a baguette but it really was quite difficult to eat, on the one hand just shoving it in your mouth or the other trying to turn it and pray that the filling doesn't fall out. Overall our experience here was quite satisfying.
Good latte, yes Sydneysiders can make a good latte. And I had a delicious Apple cinamon with crumble on toasts. Too much sugar for brekkie but it's worth. Nice and friendly staff.
Had lunch here a few weeks back and the sandwich was amazing, delicious bread. I just popped back for breakfast today and the breakfast tostada was so delicious, as was the coffee.
Love the decor too. Top spot!

I like the ambiene, so chilled, friendly and welcoming staff.
I had 'Chop Chop Avo' which was sourdough with avocado,tomato, feta cheese, black quinoa, caramelised onion, watercress etc! So healthy and yummy.
The portion was quite large so I couldn't finish all:)
Coffee was awesome as well.

Blacksmiths is a great place for catchups with friends over a delicious brunch menu. I really love the interiors, you can easily spend a couple of hours here chatting away or opening up your laptop and powering through work while sipping on a delicious green juice. They do a yummy avo on toast and brioche French toast and of course make a fab cup of coffee.
Just a brief stroll from Central station via the Chalmers Street exit is this striking cafe and bakery. Metals, in particular steel and copper are a recurring theme at Blacksmith. I love the look of it, so modern and rustic. I didn’t just come here for the decor, I hear the food photographs well too and that makes every food blogger’s job 100 times easier.
Sitting directly opposite Prince Alfred Park, this dimly lit cafe can easily be missed. An addition to its Mona Vale cafe with the same name, Blacksmith in Surry Hills shows as much charm and intrigue. As you walk in, the cafe is beautifully themed with so much attention for detail to all the metal work hanging from the ceilings to the large metal framed windows. Blacksmith’s menu consists of all day brekkie, salads, baguettes and a couple of heavier lunch options.
How cool is this cafe. I've been here now for brunch, lunch, dinner. Food has been great every time. My only complaint is that the serving size is often too big for me! I've rolled myself out of here several times now, it's been consistently good. Love their rustic interior, they haven't spared any expense. Don't forget to try their cakes, yummo!
A little bit disorganized for a place that gets so busy. But the food comes quickly, is tasty and responsibility priced (or compared to others in the area!).

I visited this place just for coffee and it was very pleasant. The decor is very copper styled and it reminded me of pottery green in Gordon. Customer service is attentive and is very close to central train station.
I would have given this joint a perfect score if the coffee was just a little bit hotter. Otherwise the coffee was great, the service genuine and attentive and the food is fantastic. We had the big breakfast, smashed avocado, the breakfast burger and the Bircher and it was all of the highest standard. The cafe itself is a very cool space to sit, relax and enjoy.
Thanks to this amazing person for suggesting to meet up at this place. I loved it's rustic atmosphere. You wouldnt notice this cafe unless you are actually looking for it but it's literally a stone throw away from Central station overlooking the park. Even their serve-wares has the same rustiness going on. This time just had the coffee which was a good strong brew but will be back to try their food. The menu was tempting but am saving it for coming here on an empty stomach.
Love love love this cafe! Anyone that knows Surry hills knows how hard it is to make a decision on where to eat. But we ended up here and what a great choice. The staff where friendly and we where seated right away. We had the tri quinoa salad and it was very tasty and we'll priced. Coffee was very good and the layout and atmosphere of the cafe was rustic and warm. Great place for winter visits.
A rustic themed cafe with some decent food to match. Have been here for breakfast multiple times and have never been disappointed. Food was served relatively quickly but importantly tasted great. Downside is the cost. It is slightly on the expensive side compared to competing cafes.
They also have son nice pastries and takeaway breakfast options for those on the go. Service was ok however they could use more staff particularly during the weekend

To me it's so so. Quite noisy here. Food is fine. Bakery is good. Last time we had a pomegranate cake for desert, looked nice, taste above average, learned from Watermelon Cake from Newtown I think.

Unusual, cool, old style cafe that did not fail to deliver. Breakfast menu was varied with a few unusual items that you don't find in other cafes. Green tea came out in an old style tea pot, poached eggs on toast came in an iron pan. Food was delicious and filling.Located near Central which is convenient for the city.
Came in for late breakfast as I walked in I just loved the ambient and deco of the restaurant. The interior is meticulously decorated with copper tone furnitures and accessories perfectly suited name of the cafe. I think its rare to see this kind of cafe in Sydney. Their menu was also unique and they had many food options with healthy ingredients such as quinoa, chia, kale etc...
I ordered the smithy breakfast burger minus the bacon but I added thyme mushrooms instead. The burger was presented in nice wooden plate which was a nice touch and it was pretty delicious. I also ordered coffee which was perfectly made and energizer juice (apple/mint/ginger) was fresh and refreshing.
I also love that they provide filtered bottle of water.
I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast here. I think it’s a cool cafe definitely will return!
Gotta love that low natural lighting with a buzzing atmosphere. This cafe is also a bar at night! Feels like I'm sitting inside a cave which was pretty cool. Service was alright. My first trip I had the Bircher muesli with Fuji Apple, loved it! It was a very comforting dish for the late arvo. The second trip I tried the Soft shell crap (I love soft shell crab) burger and wasn't bad. Just lacked a bit of flavouring and felt that the whole dish would've tasted better with fresh red cabbage instead of the pickled ones.. I just want to go back and
Really enjoyed this dining experience! The deco was real nice - good vibes! Food was pretty good. I ordered the pulled pork baguette and it was tasty, but downside was that there was too much sauce and got a bit messy. The chips were really nice, freshly fried so it was piping hot - just the way I like my chips!!
LeeLoo and Slayer had brunch at Blacksmith recently. The first thing you notice when you enter this cafe is how true the designers have stuck to the theme of their namesake, Blacksmith. There’s a very rustic feel with the decor from the wooden tables, steel overhanging lanterns to the leather bound menus. LeeLoo opted for the massive chorizo eggs which was loaded with eggs, veggies and flavoursome chorizo. There was ample avocado and sour cream too.
Decent food. Really cute joint and really clever. Friendly staff and nice desserts. Atmosphere was really dark and mysterious which was good fun
Really pleasant meal! Nice flavours! Personally loved the soft shell crab burger and the big breakfast! It was the best big breakfast I had I think. Will definitely come again for the food. The chips were great too!
Grind your appetite with the rough-forked avo which is presented with literally a mountain of avocado! Spice your morning with the flavoursome chorizo scrambled eggs which I thoroughly enjoyed with freshly baked sourdough. Drizzle your way to the cafe which is conveniently located near Central station and pick up a freshly brewed coffee with a selection of their delightful cakes too.
I dont understand the other reviews here. The food and service are fine. Coffee is OK, nothing to write home about. The brekkie burger is very good, easy to eat. Scram was a big serve too.
A heater on the wall was a nice touch.
The fit out is truly unique. The only tip I can give is avoid the marble topped seats-cold!
Both the food and decor of Blacksmith can be summed up as rustic. All throughout the cafe you will find a pastiche of metal, wooden and industrial materials. Even the menus look as if they were crafted by a blacksmith. Being a cold drip lover, I thought I've seen all the quirky ways the beverage can be served but Blacksmith certainly surprised me with the double beaker arrangement.

I have the bliss of catching the bus past Surry Hills on an empty stomach almost everyday, pondering what delicious treats each café offers as I past them, one by one. Blacksmith has always caught my eye, and rightfully so. You could definitely use the words “tavern” and “rustic” to describe the place.
Something that’s doing its rounds in Sydney at the moment – the soft-shell crab burger. Brioche bun, as expected, loaded with pickled Asian slaw, ribbons of fennel and “kimchi” salsa.
Great new cafe!. Love the interior, the food was great too! Have already recommended this place to all my work colleagues. I'll be back here for sure!

Went there to buy a sweet treat, the lady that served me was the absolute best! Coffee isn't too bad either and the decor is pretty cool.
Great coffee and service. In the few times that my friends and I have visited Blacksmith I've found the food consistent and the service very friendly. On all occasions we've been lucky enough to have the same great waitress (I'm not sure I remember her name) who made us feel right at home. The coffee is excellent! Last time we were there however service was a little slower than previously
This cafe has a lot of character. The good mix of old and new interiors, toned lighting and rustic decors adds to the whole experience. The food is delicious but what stood out the most for me is the friendliness of their staff. They are wearing mask (for Covid safety) but you can see in their eyes and the tone of their voice that their greetings are genuine and they are happy to serve. Good food, strong coffee and an amazing staff makes a huge difference. If you’re in Surry Hills/ Central station- this cafe is a MUST try.
PS. Their takeaway cups looks cool too so if you’re in a rush and doesn’t have time to dine in- then go get a takeaway coffee and you’ll see how funky their cups are👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The breakfast (bircher muesli) and coffee were very good. The table and stool I sat on outside were a bit uncomfortable. They've gone with a decor theme strongly which has meant they've sacrificed comfort a tad. The waiter was friendly and prompt. I'd go again.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food & exceptional service! The staff members who served us were friendly and offered a coffee on the house for my partner who’s celebrating his birthday. We had the big brekky & the scrambled eggs with jalapeño salsa.

Lovely food and friendly service - very friendly. The food and decor is a bit different from the usual, in a good way. It was great to see that they check for vax etc and they do it very politely. I have been here a few times and it never disappoints.
I love coming here for coffee, they make a really nice one and the staff are always so lovely. They also make a great banana smoothie. I've mostly had breakfast here and I typically go for the avo and feta toast or the jalapeno scrambled eggs on a wrap. Simple, not too large and very tasty. The breakkie burger has heaps of bacon. Blacksmith has lots of indoor seating, good for groups of most sizes. Love the blacksmith theme, place is very cool.
