Gnocchi Tartufo : š Great
Pesce Spada alla Griglia : š Amazing
Tagliata di tonno : š Amazing
Tucked away in a quiet street in Potts Points, Cafe Roma was quite the find. Highly recommend either the swordfish steak or tuna steak as they were so beautifully seasoned and cooked (ordered rare). The gnocchi was also nice but the sauce came out a little bit too salty. However, overall an enjoyable experience.
I took my (soon to be) 9 yr old daughter here for a pre-show dinner at the Opera House and we had the Prawns and the Swordfish. Both were immaculate in presentation and taste. My daughter devoured the prawns in record time! The staff are friendly without being overbearing and the restaurant is cosy and welcoming. Would definitely revisit with āolderā friends and spend a few hours grazing. All in all a cracking little out of the way place. Grazi!
With 30 years in the business, home made Italian food is their specialty.
Hereās what you can see in the pictures:
Tuna carpaccio (my favourite of the night)
Gnocchi Gorgonzola
Gnocchi Pesto
Gnocchi Riviera
Gnocchi Tartufo (omg !)
The pizzas š:
Prosciutto Rucola and porcini bufala grana.
Dessert : tiramisu and cake + vanilla ice cream.
I would recommend this place for the gnocchis, Iām normally donāt order them but this restaurant has amazing ones. Convenient location in the heart of Potts Point.
Weāve been coming to this place for years and the delicious quality of food doesnāt change. We enjoy the hospitality and can never go past the home made pasta and bruschetta pizza. This place is a must if you want seriously good Italian food. Not to mention itās always fun to create some artwork with the butchers paper and crayons provided.
Went for dinner with 2 friends, pizza was probably one of the best I had in Australia! Awesome location and cute restaurant, maybe over friendly staff while you are trying to enjoy your dinner
Italian Ninja
A nice and cozy restaurant with ample seating and Italian accents to share.
The food was really tasty and cooked to perfection don't be surprised if a Grandma runs out yelling at you because you are too skinny or eating much. haha
Best choices were the truffle gnocci, margarita š pizza, pesto pasta and Burrata e speck.
Big the FAM because it carb loaded days at Noona's house...
until next time ... keep eating!!!
Lovely food. Very nice staff (the Italian accent is a bit tricky sometimesš). Pretty looking venue.
We got the $50 voucher for 2 course+2 wine. Definitely worth it. Would have coated $100+ without the voucher
Simple, homely and noisy. Overall, an authentic Italian experience partnered with food that reminds you of visiting a local favourite in Rome.
All the dishes we ordered were wonderfully flavoursome. Great service with a very creative menu. Service was impeccable. Even got a $50 bonus from Liven. Such a superb experience!
that pizza was one of the best i have ever tried. very nice restaurant and loved the environment. the only thing i did not like about was the manager's attitude. he was a bit disrespectful.
I like this place. Came here for dinner. Great atmosphere and lovely decor. Very Italian! The owner is typically Italian....busy and expressive. The food was good but there was something missing. We came as a group of 4 and ordered seafood pasta, pizza, Boscaiola and bruschetta. The Boscaiola had way too much butter and oil in it but the flavour was definitely there. Excellent coffee though. Would come back
The Capricciosa pizza was amazing and the staff (and owner) were extremely hospitable. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an intimate dining experience.
Fairy lights and greenery, candles and music youāll feel like youāve teleported from the busy streets of Sydney direct into the picturesque streets of Rome.
On the menu youāll find a range of delicious authentic Italian meals ranging from Pizza, Pasta, Breads and Desserts. Everything is reasonably priced and the main meals are quite large portions.
This restaurant has a real 'family' vibe to it.
Not a and joint at all, I loved their beef red penne pasta and bruschetta was to die for!! Definitely good Italian food that did not disappoint
The BEST Italian food ever and the most welcome we have felt in a restaurant. Thank you Danilo Tozzi for making our evening so memorable and welcoming us like long lost friends. We will be back !
You probably have an impression of this place from the halcyon days of kings cross. I did and then I tried it sober and it's actually really good pizza! The best delivery pizza in Potts Point, and that's a fact!
Awesome italian in an unassuming location. I would never think to visit Kings Cross for delicious, authentic Italian food but this place is one of the best!
I've been going here for years and the food is always consistently good.
Highly recommended!
Semifreddo. Best semifreddo ever!
Favourite Italian. This place makes me feel like I'm in a back st in Italy it's so cosy, always welcomed, never had better gnocchi.
Great Italian in kings cross!. Came here for dinner and had the king prawns and the Panna cotta, both of which were delicious and well made. The atmosphere was great and the service was wonderful. The prices are a bit steep, but you get what you pay for. The cocktails were really good as well. It was money well spent.
I never get tired of tired of their homemade pastas especially Ravioli al Granchio and Spaghetti al Gamberoni. I get hungry just by thinking about them. I have spent numerous monthsaries in this place.
A fantastic, old school Kings Cross experience. Tucked away in one of the backs streets of Kings Cross, this is one of those restaurants that local recommend reluctantly - because we don't want to be crowded out by tourists and fad followers.
This is the real deal, both in terms of being an old-style Kings Cross Restaurant and an authentic Italian eatery. The food is robust and plentiful but with little gourmet touches to delight the most jaded palate. The decor is warm and Bohemian, with Italian movie posters and retro art covering the walls. The tables are tucked into nooks and crannies - apart from those outside in the covered courtyard. Service is swift and efficient, without ever being overbearing or intrusive.
The clienetele varies from families early in the evening to clubbers and showbiz personalities later at night (it's open till 3 am). After 11 you'll see staff from other restaurants as well as entertainers having their post-gig meals.
Disgraced politician Eddie Obeid was dining with a nightclub owner the last time I was there (Caffe Roma is also a favourite retreat for the 'entrepreneurs' of the Cross). Actor Geoffrey Rush was there the time before that. Last night my wife and I took the in-laws there to celebrate her dad's 83rd birthday - he loved it, even the Italian beer we'd never even heard of before
If you live in or are visiting Kings Cross and you're looking for a good, genuine Italian meal, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, at reasonable prices, this is the place. Talking of prices - there are two for each item on the menu - pre-midnight and post-midnight. And there's a very, very good wine list.
Just a word about Ragazzo's spiteful attack on Caffe Roma (below), there's a mindset that food bloggers have that is not shared by most 'civilian' diners. In their own minds they are the princes and princesses of eating out - and for many, not being treated with the obsequiousness that their imagined status affords them is the worst sin a restaurant can commit. Caffe Roma treats everyone the same - whether they are rock stars, writers or regular Joes. IO can only imagine that Ragazzo didn't like this becasue his review of the food bears no resemblance to the restaurant tha I and its many regulars know and love.
My Favourite Late Night Italian. Sure it's not perfect, but nothing beats a good Italian crazing like Caffe Roma!! I say go for the good ol' spag bol!! It satisfies like only a rich carb filled meal can :-)
This place is an icon in sydney. Great authentic Italian, open all hours of the night. Consistently great food and service, thanks guys
Amazing all round!. I've never written a review before, so it has to be good for me to sign up and make the effort!
We dined here last night and left knowing we'd be back, 100%! From the moment I booked I knew it would be good with an authentic "Ciao, Bella!" before I hung up. When we arrived the staff were most welcoming and led us straight to our table. From that point on they were incredibly attentive, polite and happily obliged our every request and were not bothered by even the most annoying requests, ie- split bills (and coming from a hospitality background, I know how frustrating this can be!) Food was quick and tasty. I had the Pesto Gnocchi which was quite "Parmesany" for all those cheese lovers out there! They even had a cup filled with crayons on the table so kids could draw on the place mats to keep them occupied whilst the adults wined and dined! All round, very pleased with our night and would definitely recommend it to anyone!
Late night treat. good place to hang around after midnight
Great service and food. Especially recommend the homemade pastas.
Caffe Roma. Best italian food I have had in Sydney. great menu and the food was amazing. staff was not the friendliest and service was poor.
Wonderful pizza, I had a margherita. It was so good I forgot to take a photo! Then after that I had a chocolate mud cake. (I know, great combo). Anyways the place has a wonderful atmosphere, and the service was FAST, also staff were kind. Overall wonderful restaurant.
I can't believe it took me this long to visit Caffe Roma! The decor itself is dark but cosy and intimate. Itās perfect for date night, small groups, large groups, young people, old people.. basically itās for everyone. And youāre probably wondering why the tables are covered in butchers paper? Grab the crayons and create some art while you wait for your food. Who said itās just for kids?!
The 'Parpadalle Ragu' was incredible. Ribbons and ribbons of perfectly cooked pasta with a rich and hearty sauce to match. This was my favourite out of the lot by far.
The 'Penne Amatriciana' closely followed. The bacon bits were beautiful and I loved the mix of completely melted cheese and the cheese that had just been freshly grated on top.
I believe the pasta used in the 'Pesto' was Gemelli. Now, I love a good pesto sauce but sometimes it can be a little boring. This dish kept me excited and going back for more, simply because they added potato and green beans. I absolutely LOVED this!
And of course, their 'Ravioli'. Generously filled pockets of smooth ricotta tossed in a creamy, walnut sauce. Just beautiful.
Their pastas are amazing, no doubt about that. Oh and ask for their chilli oil. It's homemade and will take your pasta to a whole other level!
We got to try the āProsciutto e Rucolaā. It had a good amount of topping on the perfect base, ensuring an easy pick up and a nice fold. The prosciutto was some of the finest Iāve seen and again, with their chilli oil, it turned it into something special.
Friendly stuff, good food, good location, nice vibes, quiet(if you goto quiet timeš) can't go wrong with any food from menus.. you won't regret what you get and that's how much you are paying for.. šÆ recommends
Hands down my favourite place for Gnocci, yum!
I also love the Italian feeling of the place, I love the dƩcor, its definitely a vibe in there. Cute little street.
The owner is super friendly and a little eccentric, I do not know him, but have always found him very friendly.
Lycee martinis are also a big hit.
It's a bit dark in there, but adds to the ambiance.
Absolutely outstanding pizza. Have not had pizza this good in so long and late night eats. 10/10
My favorite Italian caffe in Sydney. Authentic Italian cuisine, cozy atmosphere and the owner is a legend. Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant!
popped in here on spec tonight with some friends after discovering a nearby restaurant had closed. hadnāt been to the roma in years and, tbh, i wasnāt expecting muc. but damn! if that eye fillet wasnāt one of the best steaks iāve ever had. i ordered medium rare and gotā¦ medium rare! it had a delicious crust and juicy centre. the mushroom sauce was great. and the roast spud chunks and crisp broccoli in a bit of oil rounded it off perfectly. my friend from overseas had the barramundi and was in heaven. what a gem of a joint.
