One of the best value steaks in Sydney! One of my favourite steak places to go. The sweet potato fries just adds to a great meal.
Lamb skewers and a Wagyu beef sausage are great great if you want a bit of everything

A casual restaurant in Newtown whose decor feels like a steakhouse or beer hall. Long tables and metal chairs, it isn’t that comfortable but it is suitable for a casual catch up. It serves meats and you select what you want from the front counter, ask for the way you want it cooked and select a sauce and sides. No table service, but the man on the counter was super lovely and very helpful with our large group. The waitresses bringing the food got a little confused over which cut of meat was which. The steak was excellent, cooked as requested and all sides were also good. The place has a bar and everything is reasonably priced.
Delicious burgers that are very reasonably priced!! Almost always come here before I go to the Enmore theatre! The formaggio for $13 makes me very happy!!!
The setup is that you can order your meat ( steaks, sausages or kebabs) and add any types of sides you like (salads, chips, roast veggies) or you could order the set meals like we did. We got the pork ribs with chips and salad. The ribs were amazing and smokey. The chips were perfectly crispy.
Great customer service & food. If you want a good steak or burger in Newtown or Richmond in Melbourne this is the place to go! Good atmosphere with an open menu.
Choose your own steak/protein, line up, pay, grab a seat and wait. Everything you order is separate so you can order whatever sides you want to go with your main. Below is the Angus scotch, kale salad, pepper sauce, chips and the Formaggio burger (~$50). My burger was cooked well and had a really great smokey flavour. It doesn't come with any sauce so you need to use the table mustard and smoky bbq sauce available. This burger is on the small side so probably not filling enough for an entire meal, so I would recommend ordering a more substantial burger or some sides to go with it. My bf said his steak was decent but the highlight has to be the pepper sauce 😍! I love the concept and the vibe of the restaurant is really chill, so it's a perfect date night location PLUS Hakiki is right next door so head over there for their amazing coffee ice cream.
My eye fillet steak was pretty good, maybe not the best but they know how to cook it and it’s priced a bit below the top end, so pretty appropriate for the price. On other visits, I’ve had sausages, which were great, really flavoursome, but also expensive, and a burger, which was a disappointment. It should be good beef but it didn’t seem that way, or maybe it was badly minced and dried out - it was chunky and chewy and dry. With American cheese and pickles, it just seemed like an attempt at a fancy McDonald’s burger. Macelleria makes a good steakhouse though.
Reasonable priced, knowledgeable snd helpful staff. Large open seating format that does crate a reasonable amount of noise. Small but appropriate selection of beer, wine, cocktails and other drinks available.

Decided to try this place after a few recommendations from friends. Arrived Wednesday evening and was greeted by a lovely young lady at the counter,she explained how the ordering worked and we both settled on a scotch fillet.One medium and one medium rare.and shared 3 sides.The food arrived and the sides were very impressive,however my steak which was supposed to be medium rare was raw and cold.I called over a waitress who had very limited english and explained the problem.I never ever get a replacement meal if i need to send something back as ive heard many a story about pissed off chefs so i asked for a refund and explained i didnt want a replacement steak.5 minutes past and the waitress came back and said they were cooking me another steak.I again told her i didnt want the steak and to just give me my money back.She walked off confused and the lovely young lady with the ponytail who was looking after the counter came over and apologised for serving a cold raw steak.I told her everything else was perfect and i was happy to have my money back without a replacement steak.She offered some more free sides which we declined but accepted her offer of a free drink.The food here is really good other than my undercooked steak and i will be going back.The standout for this place is the customer service given by the young lady with the ponytail who greeted the customers and explained the order process,she showed the highest level of customer service and should be commended for her genuine niceness and attitude towards her job.

Chose Macelleria for dinner before seeing a show across the road at the Enmore. Loved the concept of being able to select a cut of meat or fish at the long butchers counter and have it cooked to your liking. We went Rib Eye, Lamb Cutlets, lamb sausage and duck and maple sausage - all delicious, juicy and tender. A nice selection of sauces and fresh sides on offer. The sweet potato fries are especially awesome. Teamed this with a decent glass of red for a very enjoyable meal.
Loved their steak - especially the Angus Eye Fillet. It was nicely cooked and the steak was juicy and tender ♥️ Must try their sweet potato wedges too - so fresh and crispy. Would definitely come back again.

As you walk through the doors of Macelleria you get a little confused on what to do. Looking around, you wonder if you've stepped into a butcher, a New York diner, an underground speak easy or a little bit of all of the above! Black and white tiles cover the walls and exposed wood beams hold up the ceiling. There's a butchers window, a counter and a full-blown bar!
After the shock and awe of the butchers window, you realise that there's prices on the fresh cuts of meat and signs about the burgers behind the counter. In a nutshell, you pick from some of the freshest cut(s) of meat, just like a butchers store, then you pick your sides and have everything cooked, plated and delivered directly to your table. All this while you enjoy a beverage from the bar.
We ordered the Haloumi Cheese Grilled Salad (5/5) and a couple of the Slow Cooked Rack of BBQ Pork Ribs (4/5); their special of the day. The special came with with chips and garden salad for sides. We also grabbed a couple of sausages; a chorizo (5/5) and a lamb sausage (3/5); and an Angus Beef Ribeye (3/5) to share.
The Haloumi Salad starter was cooked well and hit the spot. The haloumi was splashed with salt and pepper and cooked well. The salad was drizzled with olive oil that didn't overpower the haloumi. The Chorizo Sausage was by far the standout! The spices, the quality of the meat and the way it was cooked was delicious. The lamb sausage came out a little dry but still tasty. The Angus Ribeye may have been a little overcooked and it was a little bland. Smothering it with mushroom sauce gave it more flavour but I felt like it was just missing something.
The Pork Ribs BBQ sauce was delicious but there seemed to be more sauce than meat on the ribs. But with the size of the rack, it was filling and delicious nonetheless.
The staff are very enthusiastic about the place and it adds to the atmosphere. We ate on a Monday Night and there was plenty of seating available. It's a little pricey for what you're getting but this is justified by the freshness and quality of the produce they use. Well worth the visit and I'll be back again to try the burgers!
Great beautiful place for meat lovers. The eye fillets r great selection to choose from. So cool u can choose ur marble too and then they cook there in front of u. Burgers are nice too, in the other hand Sides r not great. They could improve more on that. Sometimes sadly I have found potatoes still very hard (not properly cooked). The French man in the bar, is very dedicated, great knowledge of his bar and food. Very high standard his customer service skills. Place is perfect for a nice good stake under $ 30 per stake plus is spacious and very welcoming. More waiters in the floor would b great. With good information about meat and wines, Not just the owner. Could b very packed on weekends anc in those times they get overwhelmed with dirty tables that they remain untidy and full of other customers stuff for a bit Longer than acceptable. But overall great. Good experience every time

I really like this place, I've been a couple of times now and the only thing that's disappointing is that they only have one register so it can take a while to order (you choose, order and pay and they bring it out to you).
The decor is fairly typical new funky exposed beams and subway tiles with slogans and branding with wooden park tables with individual seats (similar formula for a lot of new places, in my book).
The selection of meats is wide from rump, porterhouse, eye fillet, scotch fillet and T-bone and a good range of burgers as well. I've only had the steaks though. They have a 3 - 4 different salads to choose from which we've found delicious and the roast vegetables and/or roast potatoes are really tasty as well. The best thing though, are the way the steaks are cooked, which has always been spot on. The cuts are great and had no excess fat and certainly no sinew in them; everyone I've spoken to has said their steaks were cooked as they asked for.
I've been to supposedly great steak places and they haven't been as good as here - I recommend this place but for mine, try to go slightly earlier or later than peak meal times.

When I first saw it, I knew about their shop from Bondi but that one looked a little small. When I heard that there was a another one in Newtown, I decided to take some of my friends there along with me. The place is quite big with spacious room, great place to have a meal with friends. The food there is pretty good, you can choose any meat you want and they would cook it to your perfection. I would definitely go there again and reccomend any of my friends to go as well!

It's not often I dish out a 5/5 on here, but dinner last night at Macelleria's new location in Newtown simply couldn't be faulted!
Conveniently located on Enmore are just a few minutes from the train station, Macelleria will be your new go to when those meat cravings hit hard.
It's a spacious venue that looks part deli/part restaurant/part bar, and the deli part is where the fun begins. As soon as you walk on you're greeted with a long glass cabinet carefully laced with beautiful cuts of steak, skewers, cutlets and sausages. And it's none of that gross piled up to the brim business either. This is more like the Dior of delis, where they place just a few items of each choice out, ensuring freshness.
We met with Peter the owner who has an infectious enthusiasm for his business, and is sure to steer you in the right direction when it comes to your meat selection as well as how it is best cooked.
We were treated to a nice sample spread which included:
- the most divine piece of wagyu rump, beautiful marbled and cooked to medium rare perfection. It's simply served with a bit of olive oil, lemon, salt and pepper, and honestly melts in your mouth.
- My friend had the eye fillet which was deliciously tender.
- Sweet potato wedges. Coated in chicken salt yessss, and so tasty I'd go as far as saying they're the best I've had in Sydney.
- Roast veggie bowl - corn, broccoli, carrots, pumpkin and my favourite potatoes!
- Garden salad - which had an awesome spin on it topped with shredded beetroot.
Did I mention they also have a bar?! Could this place get any better? Steak and Cosmos yes please!
The food could not be faulted. Everything was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour. Even better when you know how fresh it is.
We had an amazing night and are already planning our next trip back to try out their burgers and ribs! Trust me you'll want to go with a group so you get a chance to try it all!
Food was excellent though a little slow needs to improve the fresh stuff and the veg stuff. Wine list was interesting but not mind blowing. Would eat there again just on the basis of the meat though.
Great concept and fantastic option if you are feeling like a healthy home cooked meal while eating out.
You basically pick your choice of meat from a butcher style display fridge and get it cooked how you want it, served with your choice of sides such as roast veggies, chips or salad.
I chose grilled chicken breast that was cooked beautifully and marinated in lemon and oil seasoned with salt and pepper- simple and delicious. I had it with steamed broccoli and a kale and quinoa salad. The meals are quite well priced and decent serving sizes.
Great food, really fresh produce. Good concept being able to choose the meat that will be cooked for you. Isaac makes the best burgers. Definitely going back!
Macelleria is basically a butcher shop where you can do the normal thing and just buy some (great quality) meat and snags to go, or you can order your meat of choice (mainly beef but also some lamb, chicken and fish), get it cooked to your liking, throw in a couple of sides and a drink and eat in. The steaks (Cape Grim and Angus) are excellent and they do a good job at cooking them to required specs. Most sausages are gluten-free and way above supermarket quality.
