Loved every bit of it! The lamb Raggu pappardelle and vongole is highly recommended!! Service was great, staff were so friendly and attentive. The music was my jam very 90s r&b and a bit of rap. The bar area downstairs had a great atmosphere to it too. Will be back soon!!
This place is epic. Great Italian food. Awesome cheese. The staff are right on it. We had a problem with dish and they were fast and wonderful. It is a bit more expensive and somewhere I would go for more of a special occasion but I give it a full double thumbs up!> Maybe not two thumbs because I would like a hand free to keep eating!
More of a 3.5 although rounded up to a 4.
We dined on a Monday night at 6:45 so the restaurant was quiet enough.
Our waitress was attentive without being in your face. There’s an extensive wine list with some great choices and the food menu was adequate.
We ordered the Monday night special, spaghetti bolognese, which was nice on a cold night with thick garlic bread although at $23 it seemed small or expensive for the portion served.
As a lover of hip hop and especially 90s rap, the music had me bopping along throughout my meal and definitely added an awesome vibe to a lovely dinner.

Visited Big Poppa’s for the first time last night and had a really enjoyable evening. The Kendrick Lamar tribute caught my attention and I’m glad I checked this venue out!
We made a reservation for 7.30pm and the restaurant wasn’t too busy when we arrived, so we were able to choose our table.
From the moment we arrived the waiter provided exceptional service! The Sunday roast was delicious! Very glad we were provided with assistance with the menu, our selections were fantastic!
Together we shared a bottle of rosé which was also great value/quality.
After an amazing meal we went downstairs for a cocktail. The bartender from Finland was so helpful and friendly! He suggested a delicious cocktail and provided some great banter. The bar downstairs is really cool, I will definitely be back for dinner and drinks.
Our mains were so damn good that we devoured them before the photo opportunity!
We popped in around 8pm and were lucky enough to get a table, provided it was left by 9:30pm. We were cool with that. An upstairs area for dining and a bar and booths downstairs. They have some great Italian dishes and an extremely wide variety of cheeses. The food is awesome! We shared the cacio e Pepe pasta, peppers, the special - a steak tartare, and a stinking bishop cheese (that came with fruits, honey and Bread), as well as a lamb Ragu. The food is incredible! They also have a great list of wines and cocktails and I loved the “say my name cocktail”. The maître d was excellent at her job and the waitress was very good too. Food came out super fast too. It was a great experience albeit for he drunk guys next to us who probably should have been cut off from the alchohol.
I LOVE IT WHEN YOU CALL ME BIG POPPA! THROW YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR IF... you want to eat sick Italian food, epic cocktails and listen to sick Hip Hop beats till 3am?!?!?!?! I do!!
Love this place and have been here 4 times. Fantastic service, food, wine and cocktails. Must try the burrata, parpadelle and the gnocci. Order the chefs cheese platter for a selection of cheese!
When my friend suggested this place I was a little hesitant as the name to me sounds like it's an American burger joint but when I saw pics of the food it looks delicious! There were four of us and we ordered the Burrata, the cured meat, ricotta gnocchi, lamb ragu parpadelle and the spatchcock. We also had a few cocktails and wine. My fav dishes were the Burrata, the ricotta gnocchi and the parpadelle. Since we only had a two hours seating, we were told our time was up and we had to move downstairs to order more drinks. As the servings are small and we were timed, we felt the meals weren't sufficient. We had to get more food afterwards. Apart from that I would go back for the parpadelle and the gnocchi.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food and drinks. Perfect for a night out with the girls or even a romantic dinner. Definitely won't hesitate to stop by again.
Love the food and drink service game here. Def won't hesitate to drop by for any reason 🤤
Food, booze, tunes, cheers, how can you go wrong?? Answer: IT DOESNT!!
Extensive cheese list.
Friendly and knowledgeable service and flavorsome food, is just a few of the great things about this place.
Would recommend for anyone in the vicinity.
I love this place.. great vibes, delicious food, friendly staff, and the food is so badly on point!
The blue cheese and fig salad was perfectly balanced, the blue cheese wasn't too overpowering.
The veal ribs were so tender and perfect!
What an amazing night these guys hosted for my birthday. Service from Dominique was phenomenal from start to finish, and I'll be dreaming about the lamb ragu until I return. Thank you!!
My favorite music is hip hop and R&B. Something about the heart-thumping beat makes sense to me. Something about the rhythm feels natural to me. An all time fave has been Biggie’s Hypnotize because of that thumping beat that makes your head instinctively bob up and down. Anyway, you may have guessed that Big Poppa’s on Oxford Street is named after The Notorious B.I.G. So if music choices at a venue are important to you, you better like hip hop if you’re coming here.
When I read the caption on their Insta of Italian eats, I was expecting pizza and pasta. There's no pizza and only one pasta dish on the menu. They have a variety of cold shared starters, a few mains and an extensive cheese and wine list. We had the Beef Carpaccio, Crudo and Pork Cutlet. The dishes were all beautifully presented and tasted as fresh and refined as they looked. We enjoyed every dish with Biggie playing in the background.

Thanks to Casino Mike there’s been a dearth of places open in the wee hours of the night if you’re wanting a good feed with somewhere to actually sit and not just on the kerb chowing down on a kebab. Enter: Big Poppa’s, named after The Notorious B.I.G. track of the same name. Owned by Lewis Jaffrey (ex-Baxter Inn) and Jared Merlino (ex-Lobo Plantation) and headed up by Liam O’Driscoll (ex- Pendolino) in the kitchen, Big Poppa’s is a welcome addition to the Sydney late night dining scene, with dinner and drinks served til 3am every day and even a whole separate menu for cheese!
Went here on a Friday night at 6:30pm, it was super busy. So we had a couple of drinks downstairs. Everything about this place, was just amazing. The decor, service and food were SO GOOD. We waited half an hour for a table, ordered the papadelle, crudo, cured meats and the chocolate dessert with oranges. 10/10!! Cannot fault Big Poppa's. Will definitely visit again when we are back in Sydney!!
Food, darkness, hip-hop. They are the first things that will enter you mind as you head into Big Poppa's. This split level bar has an upstairs informal restaurant with interesting menu choices, but descend the stairs and the atmosphere darkens to a den that pays homage to hip hop stars, good cocktails and bare brick.
Love the vibe! You should note that the bar downstairs & the main dining hall upstairs have different set of menu though! The dishes that I love the most is the burrata & the fish dish whose name I forgot. I don't remember much about the zucchini salad apart then how "fresh-tasting" it was.
Dined here last after trying to get in just before 6 on a busy Friday, food was delicious - we had the burrata and lamb paparadelli, however could have a better wine selection mixing some dry and sweet varieties
Really really good. A classy feeling Italian with Ghetto hip hop as a soundtrack, an amazing cheese list, interesting and delicious wines and great food. It's also open really late - what's not to love!
All hail the new late night drinks and eats destination. Big Poppa’s opened a couple months back and it’s a good one. A favourite that has seen us return a couple of times now. Good eats. Great times. Like Hubert before it, this is a great addition to the sydney bar and food scene. Upstairs, Big Poppa’s is more classico; an intimately lit diner that now easily packs out early. From outta their kitchen Italian Eats, Cheese, Wine, Cocktails, Pasta and across the menu, it’s delicious well priced, easily sharable and crowd pleasing. Downstairs, once it gets late – party vibes, camaraderie, hospo fun. This is how you #keepsydneyopen and well fed til their late closing of 3am.
New addition to the Darlinghurst scene and already seems to be a fav amongst locals. Went on a Monday night and was quite busy but got a table for dinner straight away. The area for dinner is quite small so wouldn't take long for it to fill up. The vast selection of cheeses grabbed our attention straight away so we shared a few cheeses and the zucchini, squash and fennel salad. The vista blue cheese from VIC was amazing!! We stupidly ate that first and it masked the flavour of the other cheese but oh well. The platter they bring out with your cheese is nicely done but it would have been nice to have a softer bread or cracker in addition to what we had. The zucchini salad was soooo good, will definitely be back to have that and try some of the entrees and mains. After dinner we headed downstairs for a drink. We decided instead of desserts we would have dessert cocktails, I had the B.A.N.A.N.A.S and it was delicious and went down easily. The downstairs bar is dimly lit and cosy with very friendly bar staff. The service upstairs and downstairs was fantastic.
Very nice attached especially the basement level (not sure what they call it).
Food was very pleasant, cocktails were very good and staff was nice and friendly.
Would definitely recommend it
The pasta is to die for!!! Cooked perfectly and so delicious. The bread was also so good. Loved the ambience and the staff were amazing!
Love it here. Good staff and security.
Food is really good and some wines on the list wine sommeliers at chef's hats restaurants haven't heard of and are intrigued as was I.
I loved the food, the atmosphere, and the old school rnb music! The service is excellent, and the staff were extremely pleasant. We will definitely be returning to Big Poppa's.
Cocktails are good, food is alright. Downstairs turns into a great club after 10ish. Hip hop music.
great ambience
unfortunately got seated next to a super loud group of ladies
cocktails were delicious,
burrata was nice but on the sweet side
Ragu was very fatty
Thank you for some amazing food, cocktails and overall service! We had a lovely waitress Michelle who gave us some amazing recommendations including garlic prawns, burrata, lamb pasta and eggplant dish. My definite highlights were the garlic prawns and burrata and the sauce on the pasta was amazing as well. We paired our dishes with some delicious cocktails and definitely stayed past our sit in time but our waitress kindly moved us to the bar so we could continue sipping on a few more drinks!
I’ve eaten and drank here twice, both for different occasions. First upstairs on a date and my second visit we dined downstairs for a birthday celebration.
Both times were completely different vibes and perfect for both occasions. The menu is small but, fresh, well thought out and intentional and the breads and cheeses are perfection - chefs selection for cheese was a great way to try something different.
What I’ll say impressed me the most is the bar staff. They are legit artists. They aren’t your ordinary bar staff. My first visit I didn’t get the luxury to see what I saw on my second visits as we sat at the bar, waiting for our table to be ready.
The precision, care and attention to detail taken to make cocktails blew me away - a true art form.
