Review Baja Cantina And Beer Garden - Sydney

Ray
Great food and massive portion sizes. Extra tortilla wraps cost $2.50, so either use your three economically or be prepared for an extra charge.

Very nice restaurant with great vibes in Glebe. The drinks were awesome and everything came out promptly. I feel some of the options had an excess of rice and beans compared to the meat you ordered. And definitely could have used more guacamole on the plate as it was delicious.
tony tran
Awesome food. Cozy little restaurant. The fish tacos were great. Guacamole was deliciously good. Always order more guacamole.
David Galpin
Reasonable Mexican food. We liked the pork taco and the fried fish taco. The guacamole is decent. The wine list is reasonably priced.

The search for good Mexican food in Sydney ends here. Don’t waste time reading this review, go on and book a table. In all seriousness, the food was stellar. More authentic than anything I’ve tried in Australia, and I’ve tried a lot. Huge portions and extensive selection. They even have a wide range of Mexican beers! The sangria (though not Mexican, but surely a crowd favorite) was a bargain at $5. For those who may complain about the bright lighting or slightly tacky decor, it’s part of the charm. In fact, I almost consider alarmingly bright colors to be a prerequisite for good Mexican food. It’s reminiscent of my favorite Mexican joints in the states. I will be back again and again.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Sydney! We have been here countless times and always leave happy and satisfied. I always order the nachos and they are the best nachos I have ever had. The cocktails are amazing too and staff are always friendly. However the restaurant is a little small and can get quite loud on a Saturday night but it’s still really worth going.

I seriously missed the whole vibe of Baja during lockdown. The friendly staff, delicious food (huge servings) and the best Sangria in Sydney! So glad to be able to dine with in again.

Food quality is always very good and staff are nice and friendly. Fajitas 🦐🍗 are exceptionally good and served on a hot iron skillet 🥘!
Madeline Tjahjadi
I have been here a couple times and they never disappoint!

Service not great, food average, super noisy place. Went for a birthday, asked for a nice table got squashed in, there were so many empty tables that we could have had. I won’t be coming back. It whole thing was a letdown.

My husband and I decided to check this place out for dinner and it was a good thing we booked as the place was busy for a early Saturday night.

After reading reviews we went for the mixed dip (small) which was addictive with the salsa, guac and cheese dip but that was our undoing as we were full to eat our mains! I ordered their fish tacos which wasn’t that big but I could only eat the one. My husband happily devoured my second but then his steak fajita had to be takeaway as he couldn’t finish everything.

Next time, we need to skip the mixed dips and go straight to the mains. Staff were friendly and I will be back!

Great value for kids meals. Comes with a drink (apple or orange juice) and a dessert- 1 stick of churos. Just right without too much of a sugar high.

I especially love the chimichangas. Wife had gripe with her chicken wrap w rice & beans being too cheesy but that’s about the only negative we have.

Kids around but we def consider coming again for dinner drinks. Big2 drinks menu.

I was (somewhat unrealistically) hopeful going into Baja Cantina, but as I had feared, this was once again not the hub for authentic Mexican food that I had dreamed of. With that said, I actually enjoyed my meal here, and can definitely see myself making a return visit. The food was bold and flavoursome, and although it was far from authentic, it was still yum. I’m keen to come back to try the popular fajitas, and the queso dipping sauce, which I hear is some of the best around.

It is a very amazing restaurant! This is my first time to have Mexican food, and the fried prawn tacos are really delicious. I am not used to eating cheese...but tacos are really worth trying!
Hungrycatherine
I don’t usually eat at Mexican restaurants but this place is amazing! I would recommend to order the mixed dips plate because the cheesy dip is spot on and flavourful! I also ordered the chorizo soft tacos and Yumm!! Service was good and it was busy on the Saturday night.

Fresh ingredients, generous portions! Ordered mixed dips + chips, tacos and fajitas for the two of us and we were completely stuffed. After trying amazing Mexican foods in LA/Texas, we wanted to find a place in Sydney that came close to what we had. Baja comes close, with more of a “Sydney” spin to it with the premium fresh ingredients and it definitely comes through to taste and show. The margarita dupped as “bajarita” was delicious! Perfect balance between of sweetness and tartyness, not bitter at all. Can easily down a couple of those bajaritas.. Overall a great establishment for Mexican in Sydney and would revisit in the future for more.

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - quick, friendly - food came out in 10 minutes despite very busy restaurant
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - deep fried flautas are the best I've ever had, and chimichanga is a lightly fried burrito and wow the burrito insides arent soggy at all
Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Fantastic decor and great vibes

We ordered delivery pretty much just to say that we'd given every Mexican place in Sydney a chance, but we were pleasantly surprised by the result. The chicken mole and pork enchiladas were great, much closer to rich Mexican flavours than you normally find here. Those mains get up over $20 but they were pretty large meals. The trio of dips was even more unusual because, as well as being good dips, they provided huge amounts of them, so much that there weren't enough chips for them. With all the bland and undersized Mexican offerings in Sydney (like Flying Fajita Sisters just a few doors up), Baja seems like a real standout.

Super friendly service! We went here with the aim of avoiding meat for the night so just had vegetarian options. Plenty to select from with the basic nachos with beans the highlight! Loved the backyard patio - such a relaxed vibe on a Friday evening.

The ambience was great, the service good and the food could not be better! We ordered chicken enchilada and vegetarian fajita. The presentation was great. The fajita came with an assorted dish of rice, lettuce, cheese, cream and avocado mash and of course, black bean cooked to perfection. Chicken enchilada came with spicy rice and beans and the wrap was so creamy and spicy, loved every bit of this juicy delight. We had also ordered a pitcher of sangria, with berries floating around. Yummy. I am not much of an alcohol person even I liked it. The food was complimented with a bit of salsa and warm tortillas. Surprisingly, the salsa lacked the punch and salt... but that was the only thing I could find fault with. I started the review with a 3, but by the time time I was done writing the review I notched it up by another ⭐️. Will definitely come again...

Went here on a weeknight with my partner to try it out for the first time. Food was delicious and we didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive after ordering. Overall I’ll we really enjoyed it and were impressed with how affordable this place was (just over $60 for 3 dishes and a jug of sangria), only downfall was the waiter we had must have been new as we were sat at the wrong table and had to be moved and the waiter didn’t have much confidence when serving us (but this is minor as I suspect he is new and still learning the ins and outs of the menu).
AL
My husband and I came here for dinner on what was a very busy Friday night! We were initially a little worried that the food would take a while to come out, but we didn’t wait long at all. We ordered the fried calamari as a starter, chicken fajita and beef enchilada for our mains. The food was absolutely delicious! The servings were quite large so avoid over-ordering. One entree and two mains is more than enough!

This place is likely the only really good authentic Mexican restaurant you’ll find in Sydney. I’ve been here twice and both times they did not disappoint. The flavours, the portions, the service was so good. The food came out quickly, the waiters were on top of our every need and there was just no mucking about. Got in, has a good time, had amazing food and got out smiling with full bellies. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a darn good Mexican feed in Sydney. Happy eating my fellow food lovers!!

Went here for lunch with my bestie today, a cute little place with a great kinda vibe, ordered nachos with shredded beef which we were able to share and be pretty much full! Reasonably priced at $13. Was kinda lacking a kick and could have done with a few more corn chips.

Yum! The California burrito is so delicious! Baja Cantina has a great atmosphere and the staff are hospitable. I've been eating at Baja Cantina for years and it's one of my favourite Mexican eats in Sydney!
Helen
love this place it's not too busy and the food is great. the chips are amazing and i love the pork quesadillas. i'm not around glebe much but if i was i would probably come here every week it's that amazing.
The Miniature Life
I absolutely loved the beer battered fish taco - it was light, and fresh and tangy and just wonderful. I didn't enjoy the pulled pork taco as much. I found it way too soggy and the flavours seemed a little watered down. I really loved the concise menu, that did have something for everyone. The drinks were great too, and I loved how in theme they were too. Downsides I would say was the service, which was very slow the night we were there. I also found it very very dark while eating - they need to add a few more lights in my opinion. Overall I found it a reasonably priced restaurant, with some stand outs - people thoroughly enjoyed the nachos, and the chicken burrito!

This was my second visit to this place. The first time I came to this place was for a Christmas dinner with my office colleagues. Loved it and then got a chance to visit them again. Till date the next Mexican food I had. Amazing fajitas, enchiladas with great cocktails. Loved it! Would love to visit the place again.
Service - 4/5
Ambience- 4/5
Value for Money - 3/5

Serving size are massive so you can get a lot worth for your money.

The nachos are worth a try, lots of things going on in there and lots of cheese, sour cream and guacamole too.

Baja Cantina also conveniently right across the Glebe markets so it's a good place for lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

I use to work around the corner at Broadway shopping centre and always walked past the restaurant. It was always packed and I wanted to find out what the fuss was about. I booked a table to secure a spot. The staff were very nice. I ordered the fajitas with vegetables and their signature nachos; shared between my boyfriend and I. The food came out super fast and the portion size was great for someone who likes to enjoy a hearty meal. There was nothing I could really critique on. Overall, best experience of 'authentic' Mexican food. Definitely in for another trip soon!
Stephanie Reeves
Really yummy! Not very authentic Mexican but delicious! I especially love the chicken suiza! Huge portion sizes you can almost share between two people!

We walk past this place to get to Flying Fajita Sistas, each time we did I said we will have to try this place out. So we did. It has an outdoor beer garden and that is where we sat with Cobalt.

We ordered the nachos with beef and burritos. The nachos were good and so were the burritos. It was more of tex mex vibe.

They also had white sangria which is awesome because I can't drink red wine. We will definitely go back
Larissa
Very average food. Servers were friendly but food was very bland and lacked any sort of spice or flavour. Chicken was dry, and food was overall very overpriced for what it was. Despite this, they had a good bar and the cocktails were nice. If you're looking for flavoursome Mexican food, avoid this place.

Quick and good service. Friendly staff. Good vibe. Only but big objection, although big portions food could be easily cooked at home. Nice decoration. 6 dollars Coronas

We came here for a friend's birthday because he always comes here for his birthday. As usual you will need to book (we came here on a Saturday night), and the place was packed to the brim. We ordered nacho and sangria for our starters and it wasn't too bad. The sangria was a bit watered down but it's ok - what do you expect...! We all ordered fajitas with the corn bread, as one of our friends required to be gluten-free. The portion was quite large and the food was fresh and hot off the pan! I don't know how authentically Mexican it is (I've never been to Mexico), judging by the taste and portion size, it was a very nice feed. it's no fine dining but it's a very pleasant place to spend a Saturday night with my friends. The service was quick and polite and the live band was a lovely bonus. Overall we will be back again here next here for my friend's birthday, if not earlier!

They were jammed packed on a friday night and for the first time we sat in their open area behind the restaurant which was OK however they didn't have many burners and it was cold. Overall food, service and ambience was above average. Chimichanga was the highlight for us, Quantity served was quite decent. Staff were friendly and prompt.

Food:3.5
Service:3.5
Ambience:3.5
VFM:3.5
Decent portions and great value and taste. An actual proper jug of sangria without all the ice is a bonus! Great desserts too 😋 if you're sitting outside, you may have to order inside from memory but still efficient service.
Kelly Allen
Great value, good service and tasty food! Lots of options for gluten free I would say you can pick from more than 50% of the menu! We will be back.

There are a number of things you need to be made aware of in relation to Baja Cantina. The first one is that if you are a group of 6 or more there is a NO BYO rule that only appears on the menu. We were not advised when we made our booking for 20 that NO BYO applied and only found out when one of our guests arrived with wine. This did cause a bit of an inconvenience.

The second thing you need to be aware of is then if you are a group and book either of the set menus make sure that your group is easily divided by 4 because even though it does say MINIMUM 4 PEOPLE it should really read ONLY SERVED IN GROUPS OF 4. If you have extra people above that you may have issues. Also when it says JUG OF SANGRIA that is the same it is one jug per 4 people and because we had 2 extra I was told that those 2 would only get half a jug.

The food was plentiful and tasty. Not overly spiced.

The harpist was not a distraction and was fun when he serenades you.

Overall despite the initial negativity it was a pleasant evening but it was the company more than the restaurant that made it so.

Most likely to feel like home. Nice atmosphere and good variety of delicious Mexican food, proper Mexican food. Being there many times most likely to recommend this place.
Princess Greedy Guts
This is a fun place for traditional, hearty Mexican cuisine. Big portions, bold flavours & hospitable staff makes visiting this place fun, esprecially when the sombreros come out. Sangria comes in white or red versions & is a popular drink choice & easy to drink. Its byo but there is quite a few choices that are very affordable. If you expect a good time overall rather then focus just on the food, then you will have fun.

Baja Cantina is a delight for the eyes, but the food was pretty average.
The Chicken Chimichanga that we had would be a 3 out of 5 rating.
Nacho is a must have.
To be honest , i would skip the sangria and stick to beers as the sangria tasted more of soda than wine.
Vera.rejtinger
After living in Mexico and coming here, I found it hard to find proper Mexican food but I must say that Baja Cantina did it well. Thumbs up for the fajitas and tacos! Great service and entertainment with live music. Good ambience and colours. Would go back there again.

Hungry? Had a hard week at work and up for some serious carb indulgence?

I've been here around 3 times now and the food is consistent, filling and defiantly worth the price. The meals here are consistently fresh, well balanced and most importantly tasty; if you want a nice big carb filled Mexican dish then this place is perfect. They have a big menu filled with basically guacamole, beans, cheese and wraps; perfect comfort food.

The service here is adequate, and the dining experiences have been hit and miss. I highly recommend getting a table out the back; its spacious, quiet and has a lovely atmosphere, whereas the tables out the front tend to be crowded and noisy.

My staple here are the Fajitas with a plate of sizzling, hot tender beef. I tried this with the chicken last time I came here, but the beef is much better and tastier. The burritos are also pretty spectacular; with a soft, chewy wrap stuffed to the max... It's drool worthy.

Although it always seems packed, the food has never taken long to arrive. My favourite Mexican place in Sydney so far.

Baja Cantina has been a popular outlet for a number of years. It's a great place for groups to enjoy authentic Mexican food Californian style. The lively vibes are enhanced by the live entertainment and extremely friendly and accommodating waitstaff. Their portion sizes are quite substantial and its rich flavours definitely will leave you feeling rather full. Personally, I found that the dishes were quite intense with the amount of carbs swimming in the sauce.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
The service here is super friendly. I had the Carnitas Taquitos, Tamale With Beef & Chipotle Salsa, and Churros. The food was tasty and had the right amount of spicy kick to it.

Really average Mexican food that I could have made much better at home. The nacho's for starter were the best bit. But the chicken taco's and vegetarian enchiladas were dreadful. Don't like giving bad reviews but I'm struggling to take the positives out of spending $66 on something I could have made better for $20. Sorry.
Simply Starving
Really average Mexican food - would be better off visiting Mad Amex or GYG. We ordered the nachos to share, which were fine but nothing special and the vegetarian enchiladas, which were incredibly plain and tasteless. The tacos were disappointing and the produce was low quality. Service was good and the staff were friendly, but the dishes need a lot of improvement!

We found that the food and prices at Baja Cantina were pretty poor. The portions were fair but they simply didn't taste that good, prepared well or even warm. That having been said, we did appreciate that Baja Cantina offered something different, namely, the selection of Mexican alcohol (that we did not treat ourselves to).

The service at Baja Cantina is not bad but the wait times were a little long.

As for ambience, we were a little overwhelmed by how colourful and cramped (from both people and things) the place was. The live music added something interesting to the place but we simply found it was noisy; however, some might like this sort of thing.

On balance, we would not recommend Baja Cantina to friends for a proper dinner; however, for something casual, we'd be happy to suggest it.
Barbara K
Food is good but not amazing. Service was pretty average though. All the food came out at once (this stuff is meant for sharing) so it wouldn't fit on our table and it got cold. It felt like we're were being pushed out.

The first time I dined at Baja Cantina I had a blast. The vibe is festive, waiters are pleasant and the decor showcases every colour under the sun. Each table is presented with a giant menu and a bottle of Tabasco. Sadly there are no pictures on the menus so you'll have to make good with the guess work or harass the waiters for suggestions.

I've eaten through a fair selection of their tostadas, quesadillas, fajitas and their famous nachos. The base ingredients are mostly the same, with rice, beans, guac and salsa. Food can be shared but as there are only slight variations, beware that dishes can overlap. This is what happened to my companions and I on my second visit, when four of us attempted to share our choices but ultimately ended up with an overdose of rice, beans, and guac.

Prawn fajitas were great and jam packed full of flavour. The sizzling plates also kept the food warm which was perfect with the cold sides and cheese. Surprisingly with the amount of beans we consumed, there was no excessive gas issues. Quesadilla is also lovely and light so is a pleasant warm starter for the night.

Tables are definitely on the small side if you have more than two people. Prices are not cheap but plates are large and you are guaranteed a solid feed. Bookings are advised as it does get busy.

Baja Cantina makes their own Mexican corn chips. Oh, the glorious corn chips…fresh, thick and crunchy corn chips. I could munch on them all day!.
Amys_food_adventures
Mexicana sensation!

Decent sized servings of your favourite burritos, tacos' and whatnot.

Prices on the higher end compared to a takeaway place but it's a restaurant so deal with it!

Have tried The Chicken Suiza is that was pretty tasty and very filling!

Always wanted to try dessert but never could because we were always full from the entree and mains. Probably skip the entree if you want dessert!

Sizzle your evening with Californian style Mexican flavours at the extremely popular Baja Cantina enjoyed with lively vibes enhanced by the live musicians. Conveniently located in Glebe, the venue is great with for small groups, dinner dates and they can even accommodate to larger groups in the beer garden. Mix your taste buds with their selection of exciting alcoholic drinks, shaken up with the delightful service and smiles of the waitstaff.
Mounik Dalal
You can feel a buzz of Mexico once you walk in the door. Being a vegetarian options are few, having the same filling but satisfies the quench of Mexican flavour.

I always see crowds here, but unfortunately it is very overrated. The food is average in taste and overpriced, I think you can find much better and cheaper Mexican elsewhere. I've tried the fajitas - tasty but would not recommend. It was quite a bother because they separated the meal on to three different plates! There simply wasn't enough space on the small tables, and service was below average. The sangria tastes like soft drink, and costs a lot more than it should! We paid $25 for a small jug of sparkling sangria (waste). Nachos was nice, I added pulled pork on top of mine which was a tasty addition and would definitely recommend if you are still eager to try this place. Burritos were disappointing, as the filling was mostly just rice...Probably wouldn't return. The classic Guzman Y Gomez beats this any day!

Great cali style mexican. I really enjoyed dining here with a group of friends. The meals came out quickly and were delicious. This mexican food reminds me of southern california style mexican food which I love. I lived in SoCal for 5 years and I miss the mexican food there. This restaurant takes me back.

We were directed to the back 'beer garden' of the restaurant. Usually I am little concerned about being seated in the back of restaurants, as the service and atmosphere is usually non existent, compared to the front. So it was nice to see not only other diners, but a casual and laid back ambience in a decent setting with a designated waiter to take care of the service. The waiter did look really stressed and flustered, but he was still accommodating and helpful. Food servings are really generous. Corn chips and dips were a great starter and the chicken burrito grande was tasty. The rice and beans that were served with the mains, were quite disappointing. The rice was dry and bland and the beans were quite boring. The fajitas and tacos on surrounding tables looked really good, so I would love to come back to try those dishes.
Chilli Feli
Huge portions, tasty food, good service, fun atmosphere. Can't wait to come back and try their drinks!
Bonniemae89
2 filthy plates and a filthy spoon. You can expect every now and then to get a dirty side plate at a restaurant but for a dinner for two and getting two filthy plates and a filthy spoon isn't just coincidence it's pure laziness, also the food was terrible we had the prawn tacos and the prawns were RAW also the chilli and tomato broth ( I consider broth as a fairly clear soup) which was more like an extremely thick sauce packed with so much smoked paprika I could hardly breath. and on top of all our dirty plates sent back and uncooked seafood we weren't even offered a slight discount .
Jason
:-) Fun and very nice atmosphere. We rocked up there last night with no booking with a table of 10. The waiter was kind enough to put a few tables together for us and set us. Drinks are cheap. Lychee cocktail is to die for and we had a few sangrias. Try the sparking if you can. Its a but sweet but amazing. Food was great, Service is OK. So much food though they should reduce the portion sizes! I could not eat it all. Overall was a 8/10. Had live entertainment as well for free :-)

40th FAIL!!. I booked a table for 25 in the beer garden and when we arrived were told it was closed and shown to a table for 12 inside. Staff were rude and abrupt, lots of eye rolling and huffing and puffing. After our meals were cleared, I was approached and asked "who gets the cake? You have to be out in 20 mins" REALLY???
If they don't want groups, then they shouldn't have accepted the booking!! Not happy :(
The Set Menu
Baja Cantina specialises in authentic Mexican food, served "in a Californian style." For many in Sydney, Mexican can equate to slamming down a burrito from one of a number of restaurant chains after a late night out. But this is what distinguishes Baja Cantina – the meals accurately reflect the distinct and diverse flavours of the Mexican-Californian region.

6.30 pm we walked into a vibrant almost full restaurant. The dining room is quite small which it works well with the Mexican cantina theme. There’s a Latino man playing the Spanish guitar and singing “Esclavo y Amo” an old bolero of Mexican singer Javier Solis. I was taken back to my childhood, when the men in my family sang that song and many other boleros and rancheras at family dinners. It reminded me specially of my deceased godfather.

... ordered the ‘Tacos’, a serving of 3 Corn tacos. Here’s where it got messy. Two soft tacos and one crispy, two with carnitas (pork) and one with shredded chicken. Unfortunately they came out a soppy mess, Stuffed to the brim (which is great value for money) but turned the taco’s soggy and made it a nightmare to handle. It was also very hard to distinguish which was pork and which was chicken....

In the true tradition of Glebe, Baja Catina opts for a more authentic, and almost kitsch, feel rather than a stylish yuppy feel. It’s very homely and spacious; extending out the back into a beer garden; and full of Mexican artwork, Aztec figurines and shields and, of course, a healthy selection of Day of the Dead skulls. Overall, it creates a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a casual lunch or dinner. I went during lunch time and unfortunately, the lunch options are pretty limited; almost just to burritos and sides. I got a carnitas burrito which was nice, but not amazing. It was big and filling, but the flavours of the ingredients didn’t stand out enough to be able to appreciate them individually. Some of the dishes on the dinner menu sounded really interesting though, so I would like to return. I also wouldn’t mind tasting one of their tequila flights (they have an extensive tequila selection). Atmosphere 4/5 Value 3/5 Quality 3/5 Overall 7/10 43-45 Glebe Point Road, Glebe

We rolled out of there, bellies full to the brim and very satisfied. Cheap, fast and delicious Mexican all on a Monday? What else could you ask for?

...we eventually decided on Baja Cantina. The fact that it was pretty packed out was, we thought, an indication that the food must be pretty good or that it was at least good value. Turns out we weren’t wrong! ...MC and I know a bit about Mexican food but the extensive menu made both of us a little confused and lost...The staff helped explain the difference between some of the options on the menu and gave us some guidance as to what the most popular dishes were (apparently the Nachos-typical!)....We ordered two dishes to share between us...
Bad Table Manners
Chocolate chicken I agreed to eat here in order to try this dish. The chocolate didn’t make it weird, being a distinct yet not overpowering flavour. Pretty good value too, you get a thigh plus antother drumstick. Before I told my friend that mole contained chocolate, he said it tasted like chicken cooked in a Chinese red braise (soy based).
My dining friend and I recently went to visit an old favourite, Baja Cantina on the perpetually bustling Glebe Point Road. Bookings are relatively necessary or so it would seem, with the restaurant full by about 7pm (there are two sittings, 6/6:30 and 8:30) and sorry punters being turned away. I’d always been impressed during previous visits so expectations remained high this time around. Baja Cantina – decked out as any tex mex restaurant should be We started with a (very) standard entree – chips and guac. I liked how their chips were made on site and fried fresh. The guac was decent. Well flavoured, various little chunks of onion here and there. A solid serve for $9 (large, $14). I have to say I would otherwise have gone for the queso fundido – even the name is screams enjoyment. A TEDs – boooringg

We arrived at Baja Cantina hungry and excited - I was looking forward to trying the mole here - I love love LOVE Izote's version. Unfortunately we found the staff were a little busy/distracted/casual/whatever, and ended up waiting a while before we could order anything. Even drinks.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Heads up Tequila lovers, this restaurant, Baja Cantina, has a great little menu, a beer garden, and value-for-money serves of Californian-Mexican food. Would be great for group functions, and make a bang-up al-fresco dining experience some summer evening.
Sara
Delish. I was there the other day and the place was busy, the live music was peaking and the food was delicious. I have high expectations for Mexican food after coming back from my holiday in the States (stayed a lot in Houston) and the food was.. Dare I say it... Better !! Can't wait to go again.

Disappointing service. I have been here many times and in the past have raved about it. A real authentic Mexican place in a country where typically mexican food is quite disappointing
However on this visit, we were greeted with the worse service, which made the experience terrible.
It took 40 minutes to even have a waiter greet us and take our order and then be very ubrupt
Just upset with service. Would not recommend it in the future

I luv Mexican food and therefore was soooo disappointed. I ordered my favorite, the enchilada. As a vegetarian, I received 3 small enchiladas with slightly cooked onions and peppers, the two veggies I don't eat. The enchiladas were not prepared well, to my taste and I was very disappointed. Luckily, they replaced it without making a big deal but even the substitute was not impressive. Very sorry that this was my dinner pick for tonight.

DON'T COME HERE. You made us wait 10 minutes on call waiting and just hang up the phone in the end? Inconsiderate much?
Adrianacorti
The owner of this restaurant is very rude.. We attended as a big group for the Independence Day celebrations. We wanted to see victor Valdez who is really wonderful. No other reason. The food is average, the service not great and the owner, well the worst host we have ever encountered.
We won't be back.
Vale.blardone
Terrible service. The quality of the food was not bad but a very rude waitress and the even worse owner made our dinner awful! They thought we had the intention of steal their "tortilla warmer"($2 value)because me moved that at the corner of the table and they start treating us super bad and when we complaint about the service we were receiving they yelled at us that we were thieves.
Go but please...be careful of where you move the kitchen wear to avoid unpleasant situations.
Cindy
Clena, could have better staff service, defiantly better then any other mexican restraunt on the glebe point rd in comparison to value for money and decent portions of food.
Kat
Not a Good Experience.. This is one of my least favourite places to eat out.

It was a cold night and the place was booked out. We sat outside in the garden, which is fine, but there was only one heater for the entire section. It was freezing and we had to sit near a big open part of the tent as it was apparently the fire exit, and yet there was no heater to provide any warmth for our section.

The service was pretty fast, but the meals came out COLD. On a cold night u want some warm baked mexican to warm you up. I ordered a slow baked chicken burrito in a cream sauce topped with loads of cheese, but when it came out, because it was cold, the cheese had solidified into a greasy mess and wasn't melted and nice. For almost $30 a main meal, it was disappointing.

The Service wasn't friendly, it was very basic.

Bland food and average service. Was so excited to try this place as it looks amazing walking by with all the decorations and music.
Was highly disappointed by the bland, colourless food that looks like it'd been sitting there all day and just slopped on the plate. The service wasn't bad but extremely average.
With so many great restaurants around now, this place really needs to pick up its game!!

Food is average. Service is terrible, had one waiter speak very rudely about my table in Spanish. Unfortunately for him, we understood what he said. Unpleasant experience.

Mains came out 5 minutes after the entree and the restaurants is very noisy. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

We went here with my inlaws for dinner mid-week. We ordered a jug of sangria and a bottle of wine and some entrees to share. Our drinks arrived and we ordered our mains. About 15 minutes later the entrees arrived. Then no sooner had we started to eat our entrees then our mains arrived. The table wasn't large enough for all the plates, bottles and glasses. Bottle were placed on the floor at our feet.

The mains were cold by the time we had finished the entree and started the mains. This was not helped by the buritto only coming with three soft tacos (there were 4 of us) so we ordered more. It took 15 minutes for another three soft tacos to arrive. We didn't finish all of meals because they were cold.

The restaurant is very noisy. They had a person playing a guitar but once the restaurant had filled up, he was drowned out by the sound of chatter. The staff appeared to be constantly run off their feet. Once they had taken your food order it was near impossible to order more drinks or in our case more soft tacos.

We left as soon as we had finished eating our meal and went to one of the pocket bars in the area.

Great value for lunch. Had the carnitas burrito and partner had carne asada quesadilla. Also ordered the chips n salsa and must say, the chips were some of the best we've had in Sydney- def freshly made, not from a bag. We are two Americans from Florida and used to be spoilt for choice for proper Mexican and must say, this is a great cantina. Def coming back for dinner!

Worst experience ever. Since this place changed management the food amd service went down hill. The portion of serves is not value for money.

The dishes served were warmed up in a microwave and if you don't eat your food quick it gets cold very quick.

When I went to oay and provided my feedback the owner was extremley rude and I was worried he was going to take my credit card as he didn' t return it to me and when I asked him for it he throw it right back at me.

So not the best food and cutomer service. Hope no one else experiences this ordeal.

Authentic Mexican however on the pricey side (close to $30 per main). Sauces needed a bit more seasoning and flavour and tortillas were overly dry and therefore too flaky and broke apart very easily - not nice. Service was haphazard as they were very busy. Sangria jug was a jip as the whole jug was full of ice. Chicken for the fajita served on a sizzling hot plate and was dry and flavourless. Would not recommend. Don't understand y it's so busy...

Ole. I had the pleasure of eating with 7 friends at this restaurant recently. The food was excellent. The service was great. We were served by a young man who took time to explain the dishes to us. He went out of his way to ensure that we understood what we were ordering and was very attentive. The food was quite good value as well.
We all enjoyed the music provided by Victor Valdes very much.
We will return.

Fish tacos are the best!!. My husband is Californian and a self-proclaimed taco "connoisseur" (read: Snob). His dismay at the standard of Mexican food in Sydney is a frequent point of friction...and then we discovered the fish tacos at Baja Cantina. They're so good that we actually come here every week for them. Yes, they are gut-busting; yes, they are full of golden fried goodness; yes, they taste amazing with the sangria (and chips) but most importantly, they single-handedly convinced the Californian that Sydney's got a fighting contender yet.

Very disappointing in their quality of food. My Chicken Suiza was served to me like a microwaved dinner. It was obvious the cheese was already melted on the tortilla wrapped chicken. When I made the server aware, he didn't appear to be slightly embarrassed.

Amazing Chimichanga. LOVEEEE this place and the chimichanga with chirozo is the best. Cheap drinks $3 tequila in the weekday can't beat that.. fun great food and friendly staff :)

Yet again has managed to take customer service to all time new lows, wife attended a function the food was terrible and the service was even worst. They manage to draw with pen on my wife's new jacket, no apologies, then called her princess on the way out. Worst dinning experience ever

Okay food, but the management ruins the experience. Apathy toward a severe allergy caused my friend to convulse, and they not only refused to comp our meal, but Abe (tall man who always wears a fedora) berated me when I said I thought it was inappropriate for him to charge us for our food, considering the fact that they never seemed remotely sorry for what had happened. When I resisted, he yelled (very loudly I might add) "Oh don't you raise your voice at me girl!" That's their management. Had to pay a full $85 bill, and we paid it because we didn't want to get the poor sweet waitress in trouble.

Eat here if you'd like, the food is fine, but the service and food are WAY better at Flying Fajita Sisters down the road.

We were quite disappointed with our experience. The service could have been improved. When asking questions to the waitress about menu items she appeared to have little understanding of what was included with the item. Then our appetizers were cleared as they brought out the mains even though we weren't even closer to finishing them. The meals I thought were overpriced, compared to other Mexican restaurants in Sydney and was far from authentic Mexican cuisine. Even things like an enchilada for example you had to add $2 to add meat, yet there was nothing else inside the enchilada making ordering quite cryptic. Unfortunately the experience didn't meet our expectations, even though we were looking forward to trying the restaurant

Best mexican I've had in Sydney!! Will definitely be back! The bajaritas and classico margaritas were so good!! And the Baja cantina nachos with chicken were delicious and big! Then my hunby and I shared the chicken fajitas and the portion was very big and everything was tasty and delicious!

California Style Mexican W/Huge Servings. I've lived in Southern California for the past 7 years and I have came across alot of amazing Mexican food in my time. Is this by far the best? Not at all, but it is pretty damn good all the same.

I was hesitant to visit here due to the prices being a little high, and it looking very "stuffy" inside, crammed full of people, but they finally got my business when I spotted the $4 Corona's sign. Afterall, that's about $1 cheaper than I am used to paying in the States and Mexico is only about 5 hours away.

They sat us outside and the atmosphere was amazing. The inside felt very confined, filled to the brim with patrons, but out back the tables were spread apart from one another allowing for an actual conversation to take place. If you go here on a date, I would recommend sitting outside.

I started with the guacamole, which is honestly my favorite food in the world, so I have pretty high standards for it. Although not as good as I make myself, this was in fact some of the best guac I had ever had. Not too salty, just limey enough, fresh ingredients and for $9, was more than my date and I could consume. Couple that with the tortilla chips that they make in house and it was a hands down winner.

For dinner I had the chicken fajitas. As I mentioned before, I was a little hesitant due to the price of the menu, but when I received my portion still sizzling on the cast-iron pan, I began to see why. Not only do you get HUGE portions here, it was obviously made with amazingly fresh ingredients by someone who truly knew how to cook Mexican food.

I highly recommend this place for value and quality. My only single complaint is that they serve their Coronas with lemon instead of traditional lime, which I'm sure is a cost-cutting measure. However, when I asked they brought me out a lime wedge everytime.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere.

-Service TERRIBLE. -Mexican.... -Service TERRIBLE.
-Mexican beer warm.
-Didn't ask once if we wanted another beer, at licensed restaurant.
-Dip not nice.
-My main pretty good fairly standard.
ILoveGoodFood
Large servings of average food. Baja Cantina's menu is fairly predictable - and the meals are basically what you'd expect from an average mexican eatery in Australia; lots of cheese, not much flavour.
I ordered the vego nachos and got a bowl full of run-of-the-mill corn chips covered in melted cheese and bit of tomato salsa sauce.
The wait staff struggled a bit - forgot to bring our beers to the table, but still charged us for them - but were generally very friendly.
Given the range of great mexican options in Sydney, we wouldn't choose to go back to Baja Cantina.

Went here Saturday night, group of 6. The margaritas and sangria were great and the trio of dips were shared amongst us for starters. The main meals are huge. Thought I would try something different, had the chicken mole which was ok, however I don't think mole is for everyone. Overall a pleasant experience with friendly service.

Always happy. I have visited Baja Cantina around 5 times and every time I visit I leave very satisfied. The food portions are more than enough, 3/5 times I haven't been able to finish my meal.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, it's soft Mexican music with a nice vibe surrounding the culture.

I would recommended this restaurant to anyone who has a taste for Mexican.

I will keep this short and sweet, Mexico it ain't !, It's a shame that we lack good quality Mexican is Australia. I have been to the USA a number of times ad we definitely get short changed down under !

Love it!. This place is awesome four-some! The food was some of the best mexican I've ever had and the ambiance was great!

The staff were extremely friendly and the cocktails and wine were BEAUTIFUL!

Also this place has quick service and on the cheap side in a nice neighbourhood!

Definitely recommended!
Natalie
Great food! Huge servings meaning value for money! Only critique is the inattentive staff who didn't take our order, not even drinks or water, for atleast 25-30mins

Decor is cute and bigger than I expected. However, the food was quite average & the tables were sooooo dirty. I had spilt some black beans on the table, no waiter when clearing our tables wiped down our table...the black beans just stayed there. If you want Mexican go to flying fajita sisters, much better service more intimate & better range of authentic Mexican. Chicken fishes here are above average though.

Fabulous atmosphere. Excellent service. Knew all the answers for the gluten free vegetarian options. Very tasty authentic flavour.

May 2016
It's been a while,it's still busy as ever, even on a Thursday night. I recommend booking,we rang to book but they said they were booked out but we still went and tried our luck. Thank goodness there was seat in the corner.

The tomato salsa and chips though we ordered the small was bigger than expected. The tomato salsa was not bad but not the best I've had.

My chicken mole' was pretty nice but the rice was barely warm. Portion sizes for all the meals were mainly large or at least it looked large. Was pretty full at the end.

Food came out at a reasonable rate, prices are decent

It's popular for a reason, not a bad option on a busy Glebe point road

July 2012

Ummm. Recently been to flying fajitas so its easy to compare the two. The short version is my gf likes flying fajitas better. She always orders the same food when its comes to mexican food. My fish tacos, it was a small piece of fried fish with some salad and black beans. Nothing special. There drinks menu though is great, i do like there range of sodas. Service wise, its excellent, food came out very quickly, though staff was busy it was easy enough to wae down someone. Ambience wise, its a little small but at least we didnt feel like sardines. Price wise it was more expensive than i expected. Not sure if i would come back though....
