Review Restaurant Moon - Sydney

An amazing food experience that is well worth the money. The restaurant is small and intimate and decor is top quality. Service was amazing and staff friendly. The food was a visual and taste sensation and the additions never felt forced and we're well worth the extra money. Absolutely suggest you do the degustation menu and savour the wonderful cocktail menu. My wife is a massive foodie and she raves now about this place

We had an amazing dining experience. The food were crafted elegantly with all sorts of details. Almost all of the dishes in the Degustation were unique and beautiful. The cocktails were even better giving great aesthetic pleasure with enjoyable flavors. The staff were very nice, attentive and on point. Would definitely recommend to dine in, especially if you’re looking for a 2-hour relaxing, appetizing and visually appealing experience.

Came here a couple weeks ago (I've noticed the menu has already changed!) and it was a decent experience. The food was presented very well, very theatric. The pork belly curry was slightly too salty for me but everything else was quite nice. Cocktails were great! Service was fast and attentive but could probably do with a bit more practise because the number of times we heard plates and cutlery drop was a little comical. It's a great place to go for a date night.

If you're after a creative food experience, definitely give this place a try! The food is super tasty and nearly every dish bringing an element of fun to it! It is also a refreshing change to have Thai flavours in degustation / fine dining. The atmosphere inside is a little more relaxed than other restaurants, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, providing you're aware of this before you come. One star lost because they really rush you through the experience. I understand table sessions, however despite our booking indicating a 2 hour session, at 1.5 hours they literally asked us to leave (even though we wanted to spend even more money and try some of their cocktails). After some protest indicating our booking said 2 hours they eventually let us have our cocktail, however wasn't a great end to an otherwise wonderful night... Also, the matched wines don't get much respect at all, with no explanation about why the wine is matched or any information about the wine at all. In fact we were lucky to get the name of the wine when it was brought out to us.

This is a difficult review to write. Did I enjoy the food…yes. Did I love the food… No What I loved was the experience.. that was 5 star BEST THINGS Creative Cocktails Presentation Service Apple Dessert, the best dessert I’ve ever eaten CONS To noisy We went to the 7:30 seating and we didn’t get the main until 9pm, I was so hungry by that time I had a headache. It’s a restaurant you should try for the experience, would I go back again…. No

This was a spontaneous booking and my gf and I had the best time !! We’ll be back with our partners for sure, we’re so keen to try more on their menu. Such a fun experience and tried foods we wouldn’t normally order and were very impressed by the flavourful dishes (8 courses) delicious !!!

Such a lovely atmosphere here at Restaurant Moon! Each dish came as a surprise in the way it was presented. The food was absolutely delicious - this is not your regular Thai restaurant. On top of that, staff members were nothing short of amazing!

Visited this restaurant before COVID Restrictions. It's a small and dark restaurant. Was absolutely amazed by all the dishes we ordered. The cocktails were especially yummy. Pricing was great. Will definitely come back again!

The dessert here is really pretty but doesn’t taste as good as it looks! However we really enjoyed the rest. The oysters with the grapes and sea grapes was so delicious and unique that we ordered more to finish our meal with! Also another dish that we didn’t expect to be soo good was the little chicken tartlets with the quail egg on top!

We also got their beef ribs that were recommended to us but unfortunately got a bad cut which was overly fatty and oily.

Overall would recommend this restaurant!

This place is great to come if you would like to try a variety of delicious dishes. My favourite dish was the duck curry. It was extremely rich and creamy, filled with flavour. All the dishes are aesthetically presented.

We came as a group to sample the set menu at $80pp. Featured about 7 courses? There was scallops, oyster, smoked chicken quail egg, pork hoc, beef ribs, a duck penang curry and dessert which included a thai panna cotta and apple sorbet granita. The cuisine is a fusion of modern thai and is located down a side street in Darlinghurst. We came on a Friday night with a booking but it wasn’t too busy. Of all the dishes served that night, the standouts by far were the beef ribs with tamarind sauce and the little smoked quail eggs. We also ordered the wagyu tataki which was nice and a couple of cocktails as extras. I thought the set menu had a great mix of dishes at a good price point but there weren’t any massive standouts to me. Service was also really friendly.

First of all, service here was EXCEPTIONAL!!

We ordered:
- Oysters $5.5 each. I really enjoyed their oysters and thought the compressed grapes was a very unique touch.
- Bone marrow $15. Amazing!
- Beef ribs (signature) $42. 72 hour braised. The meat was soo soft you didn't even really need a knife to cut this.
- Duck (signature) $36. This was probably my least favourite dish out of everything we ordered. Also if you can't handle spicy I would not recommend this dish.
- Papaya salad $12.
- Fly Me To The Moon dessert $22.
- Thai Panna Cotta $14. Dessert was very theatrical/visually appealing and yummy! Everything on the dessert menu sounded amazing actually I wish I had enough room in my stomach to try them all
Drinks were also all so good!

Overall I really enjoyed the Thai fusion this restaurant had to offer. Would recommend this place.

The food at moon was exceptional - I loved everything except the sea urchin. Just not a fan of it personally. Try the set menu you definitely won’t regret it.

Amazing food and excellent service. Had their signature beef ribs and they worth the price. Portions are large. Enjoyed our meal a lot. Extra star for their service. Jackie was awesome!

Restaurant Moon is not your ordinary Thai restaurant. It’s creative, refined and has a touch of fusion. Every dish we had we thoroughly enjoyed. If I had to pick a highlight I would pick the dessert ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ (pictured). A modern and visually stunning dessert that looks like something from outer space and definitely tastes heavenly. I loved all of the elements: the crunch of the activated chocolate, the lushness of the marshmallow and apple compote and the tang of the yuzu. Additionally, the
service at Restaurant Moon is attentive and friendly. You are definitely made to feel welcome. It’s an elegant restaurant that seems more like a chic bar than a restaurant and I am looking forward to returning. #restaurantmoon

I look at this restaurant on Instagram. The pic of the food looks good. I went to try with my friend and the taste is awesome. The fish and the beef is so good. The service was good. The beef also they cooked it so well worth to try !

Wanna know how good are they?

From entree to dessert, from drink to food, not even one thing let us down.

The slow cooked beef ribs is a must try, come back three times to get this baby and that’s the only thing I want after being overseas for 6 months.

If I must say something negative, I would see the desserts are bit too sweet for me, even I always get sweet tooth.

PS. Good vibe and superb service!
Much better than some so-called ‘fine dine’ restaurant
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
From beneath the shroud of white smoke that has enveloped our whole table, bright toppings on an oyster and ceviche slowly appear. With popping sea grapes, this Sydney Rock Oyster ($5.50/each) plays to the funkier more feral expression of the oyster, then pretties it up with lime, chilli, coriander, eschallot and scales of compressed grape.Piled onto a scallop half-shell, the Ocean Ceviche ($15) is an all-of-mouth experience, assaulting the palate with salty, sweet, sour, spicy and umami curling 'round the bounty of the sea - yellowfin tuna, scallop and urchin roe. It’s a very good start at a restaurant that seems to have mostly flown under the radar since it opened in the first half of last year...

Great food and atmosphere. It’s a small restaurant so doesn’t feel too mass. It’s not your typical Thai restaurant, but everything we ordered had authenticity in it. We ordered a fair bit and had drinks, but it didn’t really break the bank.

Wonderful European-Thai food full of flavour and complexity. Lovely staff and service as well.
Don't miss out on the stunning 72-hour braised beef ribs!

Really cool place.
We ordered so much food and it still ended up being quite cheap!
Not sure how authentic it is, but the food tasted good and it had sufficient chilli to give it a good punch!
My favourite dish was a silken tofu dish in a beautiful broth: delicious!

This has officially become one of my favourite thai places to go to! It’s a whole different dining experience with Thai cuisine, the pad Thai is absolutely delicious, packed with so much flavour from the king prawns

A first look at Restaurant Moon looks very promising with a very tempting menu and prices that seem reasonable considering there's an ex-Longrain chef in the kitchen. Pad Thai with Prawns ($17) is tasty with well balanced flavours and surprisingly 6 large sized deveined prawns I'm most happy to see. With the absence of a Phuang Prik (Thai condiment set) I'd recommend asking for some chilli/fish sauce on the side for an extra flavour kick. My only wish for this dish at the time would be a larger wedge of lemon for a more liberal squeeze over the dish. Dinner snacks look great and I'm hoping some of these will make it onto the lunch menu #please. Service was professional and friendly and the space feels roomy and clean. Looking forward to trying more of the menu, especially the oysters, salmon betel leaf, laksa, crab fried rice, green curry and egg pancake plus of course the Thai panna cotta for dessert.
