Wholesome food and they use free-range products.
đłTruffled pasture raised eggs ($22)
đ
Roma tomatoes ($20)
The creamiest eggs I've ever had, really tasty too. I found it to be super fulfilling especially with the truffle flavours. The roma tomatoes were a much lighter dish, it tasted really fresh.
I really enjoyed my brunch at Orto Trading Co! The outdoor courtyard is such a beautiful relaxing spot and to start things off, I really liked my pineapple, passionfruit, apple and lime juice. I was lucky to be with a group and to have the opportunity to try several dishes. There were some dishes I really loved, and some not so much. The winners were the unique southern fried chicken benedict, the pancakes and the flavourful tagliatelle bolognese. I also really enjoyed the simple toasted granola and pumpkin patch, while I wasn't a fan of the rather plain gnocchi or mushroom salad. Overall though, there was a lot to love about this place and I'd consider it a hidden gem in Surry Hills for a lovely brunch.
I was blessed enough to be invited her for Sunday brunch, located in a quiet street of Surry Hills, this cafe was very peaceful. There was a wide range of dishes ordered but I will go over my highlights.
I genuinely enjoyed the bolognese, although simple it was very flavourful. Coming in second I loved the crunchy chicken on the eggs benni, great dish for brunch. I also quite liked the hotcakes, the batter was thick yet not sickening. The cafe was emptier which meant that service was a little faster than expected, due to the large volume of orders. Overall happy with the cafe.
This place needs no introduction and it's because of the good food, good vibes and great location. My favourites were the risotto with chorizo and the eggs benni. Service could be a quicker, waited about an hr for everything to come out, but overall not too bad if you have company.

Came here with meetup group and I did quite enjoy the food from this place.
Ordered piccolo to start with, to be honest it just average for me, barista might have to adjust the coffee grinder, because coffee taste a little bit funny.
Ordered southern chicken Benny, this is the cafe signature dish, and did not disappointed at all.
Presentation look so eye catching, not only my dish but also the salmon bruschetta, and omelet of the day.
The only one thing for me, just my personal opinion, the balsamic glaze is just to sharp agains pesto and the hollandaise sauce.
Such a good cafe with wonderful environment, friendly staff and fancy food!!
The egg benedict with southern fried chicken is just epiccccc!! Strongly recommended:)
It is very good place to have brunch on Sunny Sunday evening in Sydney we ordered fried chicken benni and and egg on toast. Service is very nice. The food is unique in taste. the place were quite spacy and staff were friendly
Popular brunch spot for a sunny Sydney Sunday! Expansive space with tall towering ceilings and an abundance of natural light; choose a large communal table or a small intimate one if you prefer! Or even the alfresco courtyard area that is pretty rare for this part of town! Orto has a chilled out vibe too which is lucky because as the numbers of customers grew the boss had to jump into the kitchen and start cooking. Am sure it is not the first time he has had to roll up the sleeves! All good! Chose the southern fried chicken benni (Orto's English muffin, poached eggs w hollandaise $18) which was oh so gooey, creamy and crunchy! Delicious! Also, the fritters w a side of mushrooms and chorizo was just the thing after a challenging gym session! Would like to return to try the lunch menu from 11.30am next time. Tasty!
we ordered fried chicken benni, polenta chips and eggs on toast. service is very nice, and the owner is really friendly, just minus 1 star for the polenta chips. It might just not suit my taste, but overall i am satisfied đâïžâïž
Feel good having lunch in this cafe. The environment is comfortable with good coffee and fresh food. All the staff are so nice.keep it up,i will be back
Their signature southern fried chicken benni is nice. Loving the crunchy chicken and the creaminess of the egg+ hollandaise sauce. However, the hotcake is just ordinary
Dance society committee âmeetingâ on Good Friday!
The service 5/5
fantastic service really friendly and caring, patient! We booked a table for 5 people at 10:30 but actually 6 people arrived at 11:10 ~ they changed the table for us from outside to inside, coz the shining sun âïž~~~ considerate!
The ambience 5/5
Lovely outside seatings with fresh air and bright, roomy inside table are both available for 2 to 8 people. Modern but unpretentious decoration, with open kitchen make everything right and comfortable!
Their coffee 5/5
Full range of coffee but the special one is their milk, they have soy, almond, hazelnut, coconut đ„„ milk! Also, you can choice vanilla caramel ... they have dairy free choice for smoothie as well! Whatâs a wild choice!
Their dishes 3.5/5
1. 4/5 Gnocchi the might be the best of all weâve ordered today. Gnocchi with smashed olive sauce is nice. I like it.
2. 4/5 Prawn đ€ linguini
I doubt real Italian will do this kind of linguini~ lol~ I seldom find in the real Italian restaurant. But I always saw it in the brunch store. Anyway, not bad, but itâs lunch menu.
3. 2.5/5 blueberry hotcake
Sorry mark this dish in a low score.... he really need to improve the hotcake texture itself. The food decoration is also not as appealing as hotcake at âConcrete Junctionâ
4. 2/5 Pumpkin đ
Omg! Itâs toooooooo salty and we basically cannot eat another bite... itâs accidental or its suppose to be tasted like this? But! The salt favour is so dominant and I cannot taste anything else.
5. 3/5 Smoked salmon bruschetta
Normal simple and standard...
6. 4/5 chips
Oh~~~~~ no more than standard chips !

Tucked away from surry hillsâ hipster main drag, orto has been on my to visit list for quite sometime. On one oppressively humid drizzly weekend, it was quiet when we got there, though i am an early bird.
Smoked salmon bruschetta 3/5, the highlight of this dish is the smoked salmon. Initially i expected cured salmon but as it was, better than gravlax kind.
Chorizo bruschetta 2.5/5, the âfailâ, randomly thrown in tossed about, not nuf chorizo with a single poached egg. Not worth the $$$.
Fried chicken benny 3.25/5, now this is worth your $$$! 2 poached eggs on 2 buns w juicy coated chook thigh cut. Glad the sauce was not overpowering too. A few token spinach makes this a healthy power brekky (or lunch).
Fried sardine 3.25/5, another hit. Pls squeeze that wedge of lemon on top of the sardines (no, not on the fried egg pls) as without it, the sauce will take front stage and you wouldnt like that.
Coffee aint bad, service a little patchy, a waitstaff was attentive and perky, another refused to come out of her shell. Ever present contrast as is life.
Southern Fried Chicken Benni: đ Good
Beetroot Salad : đ Great
Hunger & Lemon Ice Tea : đ Great
Service : đ Great
Nice cafe with a homey atmosphere. It does get quite busy here so youâll want to get in early. I enjoyed the Fried Chicken Benedict except the bread was quite stale and dry but the chicken and egg with hollandaise sauce was a good mix. I also liked the beetroot salad although it was quite uniform and nothing very exciting .. just a whole lot of lentils.
Nicely decorated cafe with sharing tables that can get busy around lunch time. The food was quite average but honestly nothing too spectacular. Staff was friendly and prompt, would recommend for a quick lunch/brunch.
I had the highly raved southern fried chicken benni which was just passable. The eggs were nicely done & runny. But I think they used frozen chicken which tasted really bland & dry. Perhaps some seasoning or marinating can help enhance the flavours. The plating was not very attractive, perhaps more greens will brighten it up. Overall, I find the fried chicken doesn't really go well with the eggs & bread.. still prefer more savoury meats like bacon or salmon to go with benni.
Great quiet spot in back streets of surry hills - very friendly service... Food is ok... Could use a couple of extra cracks on the salt and pepper grinder but overall not bad.... Bonus points for being pet friendly! So many cute creatures lol
Food: quality of food here is good especially their chef specialty. Must try their home made ravioli is a bomb.
Ambiance: brightly lit with minimalist industrial feel and lots of greenery too.
Service: friendly with a cool team
I was hyped about their fried chicken with eggs benedict - the first time I visited, their poached eggs were way cooked and it didn't leave a great impression on me at first. The second time I visited, it was good! Eggs were actually runny this time. Their polenta chips are good too :)
Definitely didn't live up to the hype but was a nice experience nonetheless. Its cafe food so expensive as usual but the atmosphere and waiters were really pleasant. The food itself tastes like typical cafe food which i'm not too much a fan of but my girlfriend is which is why i came in the first place. She probably has a much higher opinion of this place me than me, so i can say that for a brunch cafe this place is pretty good

Orto Trading Co is a Surry Hills cafe serving inventing breakfast and lunch dishes in a rustic-chic space with a funky outdoor courtyard. This cafe has been a mainstay on the Sydney brunch scene for years, offering a menu with great food and a spacious modern interior. We came here for lunch on a weekend one day with a friend and will share with you our experience.
Orto Trading Co is a short walk from Central Station. It is easy to miss because it is quite small, but the food and ambience here is up to par. Tried the eggs benedict here and I loved their hollandaise sauce so much! Their salmon toast was up to par but there was too much rocket on the dish. Would recommend their fried chicken eggs benedict - it will not disappoint!
Another fantastic brunch spot in Surry Hills. The cafe is nicely decorated and the service is great. My favourite dish is the southern fried chicken benni which has the perfect combination of crunchy chicken and soft runny poached eggs. As a side, I really enjoyed the triple cooked chips which are super super crunchy.
It was packed on weekend. The calamari was lovely, we couldn't finish a normal size of it, so the owner made a half size for us. The pancake is yummy as well!
Got a cheeky takeaway skim cap after breakfast before lunch - these guys were very helpful and the interior was lovely and light. Coffee was nice and smooth. Decent froth on top. Would love to come back and try the food.
OMG I NEED TO GO BACK. It's been way too long. Such unique decor and really creative menu. Divine service. What a gem. Thank you to the staff and chefs.
this was my 2nd visit. came here for breakfast! i had the smoked salmon bruschetta. it was lovely. will come back for sure. very recommended for breakfast/brunch lover.
I love this cafe because I really enjoyed my brunch and experience here. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The drinks are really refreshing! I had the instafamous Southern fried chickens and eggs benny and it was delicious - who knew such a combo was so good! Previously also had the truffled polenta fries which are nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My friend had the special of the day - pork meatballs which were nice but just needed a bit more seasoning
The coffee is amazing and the food is good but nothing superb. The service was great and the atmosphere was inviting. Overall it is a good café
Visited on 17 June, friendly staff. Nice interior, spacious and not too crowded for a weekday afternoon lunch. Ordered the eggs benni with fried chicken and truffled polenta chips. Nice and soft polenta but would prefer it to be crispier on the outside. Couldn't really taste the truffle. Blue cheese sauce was interesting in a pleasant way.
Eggs benni was good, nicely poached eggs. Chicken when eaten separately was alright, not really flavourful though there was good crunch.
Overall, a pleasant experience.

Had a group lunch on a weekend and they were very accommodating with spacing as my friend had a pram. Initial impressions was positive.
The menu had a few interesting items that caught my attention. I ended up going for the Southern fried chicken Benni. This was the popular choice for most of the group đ such a good choice đ it was delicious and so bad at the same time đ
Friend sent me a list of 50 cafes in Surry Hills so here I am.Â
It's a very competitive dining area in Sydney, so if you can get really good review in Surry Hills means you must have done something extraordinary.
Orto Trading co. has extensive selection from normal proportion to big feast breakfast. I wasn't really hungry at the day so I asked the staff for recommendation.Â
I ordered soy latte and sardine on the toast.Â
First comes the latte, I am not a big fan of soy latte because I had a horrible expensive in a chain coffee shop (well, huge mistake!!) but today I decide to have a try. It's actually not too bad and change my mind!Â
Second comes the Sardine toast. It's deep fried sardine meat with the spicy sauce. I wasn't expecting this is a deep fried dish however this is not heavy at all and it fits if you want a lite brunch. The sardine meat is crispy but not greasy, this is the reason why I love it! The spicy sauce marries well with the sardine.Â
Overall my brunch time is fulfilling. The staff is nice, the open space makes me relaxing, the whole style is comforting. Next time I will go when I am extremely hungry and try their Southern Fried Chicken Benni & the pastries (they are waving at me from the shelf!)
This is one of those times when I wish ratings were separated into food and service. I have never had a dish I have not enjoyed (LOVED) at Orto and today was no exception. I got the gnocchi which I have wanted to try for ages and it was super light surprisingly. If you don't order the polenta chips at Orto no matter how hungry you are or not, you need to reassess you life, seriously. They are the best in Sydney. Bummed I shared them actually. My friend got the hotcakes which look amazing and I know they are cause she always orders them. HOWEVER! The service here is one of the worst I have experienced and today was no different to previous visits. The staff are inattentive (we waited for over 5 mins despite it not being busy yet so sat ourselves down and gave the girls a look of acknowledgement. Almost 5 mins later we get a menu (I can't read as far as the board above the kitchen). It irks me that the food is so great here cause I resent coming back every time until I take a bite and groan knowing I will be back, under some duress
A modern Cafe tucked away in one of the quite surry hills streets. Looks very open, refreshing and inviting. The staff is very nice and quite friendly. The menu consists of all day breakkie and some dishes past 11:30. Although quite short each dish is delicious and light.
Lunch yesterday was very pleasant, ate outside with our dog (a few tables are undercover, handy if raining). I enjoyed the orange, apple and strawberry juice, which also had a welcome hit of ginger. My companion enjoyed the coffee, although was very small - had potential but not enough of it to adjust and really enjoy it! I had the Hash 2.0 (fried potato cubes, asparagus, avocado puree, tomato, rocket, ham, poached egg) - was pleasant, quality ingredients, though a bit heavy on the rocket. I'd say the ambiance is the biggest draw card here, space inside and out, light and airy, on a corner block, not much traffic. Staff were friendly, but some more friendly than others. I'm sure I'll return to try other items.
I really enjoyed my brunch here. First of all, they take bookings which is a great bonus especially when there was 7 adults and 1 toddler who needed a high chair. Plus today's weather was rain + windy and we didn't want to have to wait for a table.Â
I have read the reviews and I remember when dining next door that this cafe was really busy, so today my family came for brunch and even though everyone was crammed inside, the staff were very friendly and everyone enjoyed their dishes.
My husband and I shared our two dishes, we got the Hash 2.0 and the southern fried chicken Benni. Eating Hash 2.0 felt a bit healthier due to the greens but the chicken Benni was different and so so good! My SIL had their hotcakes which she loved and was visually pretty on the plate with the strawberries and passionfruit. My MIL had their bruschetta with hot smoked salmon which she demolished. Even my son was happy with their simple scrambled eggs and bread. Even though it was 10.45am we asked if it was possible to order their triple cooked chips (I had hot chips craving for a few days now) and they were able to accommodate which was a bonus. These were very crispy and decadent with the aioli which came on the side.Â
Everyone was complaining how full they were but happy with their food choices and thankful for my suggestion of coming here. I'm going to book this place for lunch in a few weeks time when I catch up with friends!
Here are some delicious brunch snaps from Orto Trading in Surry Hills, Sydney from a foodie trip taken back in September! đ. Pretty blooms on the table. The cafe is within the burbs and only a short stroll from Crown Street⊠or in my case, a bit of a walk from Central Station whilst lugging my baggage behind me as I headed straight there from the airport! Haha.
wouldnât you like to be waking up to these delicious delights from Orto Trading Co.?! Freshly baked every morning, they are the perfect treat to accompany your coffee. Featuring: Grumpy Donuts . (at Orto Trading Co, Surry Hills). Glaze your taste buds on National Doughnut Day with a fine hand-crafted blueberry crunch donut which has a deliciously sweet glaze and a punch of spice from the cinnamon toast crunch cereal. Knead your appetite for Grumpy Donuts which are now available to order and follow their instagram to get them in stores but be quick because they sell out fast, so donât walk away grumpy!

Back to Orto we went for today's lunch. Loved this prawn spagetti and of course got the side of polenta chips with blue cheese sauce. Rating only scaled back as we arrived at 12, ordered immediately asking for chips to come out first and 50 mins later everything came. We'd only ordered the one dish with the chips as a side and the timing wasnt conducive to our hour lunch break.
Wow. The food here is absolutely delicious! My friends and I ordered Hash 2.0, Hot cakes with passionfruit, strawberries, and ricotta cheese, and the fried chicken eggs benni. They all surpassed our expectations, which were quite high after perusing all the photos on Instagram! My only disclaimer about this place is that half their breakfast menu does not get served until after 11:30am (I was hoping to try their Scotch Eggs!). Also their donuts are only delivered Friday mornings and are gone by 10:00am.
We came here to try it out because it is rated so highly on this site. I am so glad that we did. We put our name on the waiting list and ordered some take away coffees. They didn't take long, so we stood in the sun and enjoyed the lovely coffee. In this time people came and went, and new people were told that it was about a 20 min wait. A lot of ppl turned up their noses and walked away at this which I think is weird. That isn't that long to wait! It was a Saturday morning after all. We got seated at a nice table outside. They served us promptly and the food came out within 15 minutes. The polenta chips were the standout dish - although we did ask for the blue cheese sauce to be on the side and we are so glad that we did because we tried it and it was revolting! Blue cheese made an appearance on the menu about 4 times which is weird because you either love it or hate it - and we both hate it! We got the lentil beetroot salad with goats cheese and it looked stunning. It had a variety of beetroot and the small ones tasted amazing but the big one was kind of dirty tasting (not earthy lol) and it was bland at the same time. The chefs can't help that though! The bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, goats cheese and olive tapanade was great. We shared all three dishes and it was a perfect amount. We loved this place and will defo come back. Unlike a lot of places in Sydney - the tables were far enough away from eachother so that you didn't feel like people were invading your space. I liked the whole vibe of the place.
Food is generally amazing, especially the baked eggs with fior di latte and sobrasada (taken off the menu recently but often available as a special). Unfortunately, service is a little hit and miss. Coffee is amazing, which is a nice distraction from the sometimes inattentive service.
I went here with a couple of friends and then again for my birthday lunch and it was stunning! The staff were so welcoming and very accommodating and the food was delicious! I can't wait to go back
Itâs been a while since we had gone to brunch, so with our friend coming back from Queensland to visit, we used the opportunity to go to Orto Trading Co. Orto is located in one of the backstreets of Surry Hills. Itâs very spacious, surprisingly, with both outdoor and indoor dining spaces. Due to its relatively open plan, it seems like a place thatâs nicer to go to on a nice and sunny day.
I got a skim cappuccino and the wagyu burger with polenta chips and blue cheese and truffles dip. Loved the coffee and the food!! Good service, nice decor. Can't wait to try out other things on the menu!

Went to Orto trading 2 weeks ago with my brunch team Mr.P and ms.L.. We waited for a good 20mins to be seated but looking at all the foods that came out from that magical kitchen assure us that it would be so worth it. The fried chicken eggs benedict is no doubt the best dish here!
Who doesn't love Eggs Benedict for breakfast? Usually topped with ham or bacon or salmon, this tasty dish is super easy to be found in every place you go.. If you ask me which place makes the best or shall I say the one that has left a deep impression on me? I'll answer Orto Trading is one of them!
Orto Trading Co. is a mix of rustic and chic. The cafe offers all day brunch with coffee, cocktails and juices. There's a sunny courtyard out front perfect for getting some vitamin D while sipping on a cappuccino (perhaps nursing a Friday night hangover). Bubble and Squeak $17. Their brunch menu is an eclectic array of traditional dishes like Baked Eggs to the more unique options such as the Hotdog or the Southern Fried Chicken Benni.
Very nice coffees and food. Pick a seat outdoor and feel the wind and sun is even better! It's in a quiet area which make u feel really relax.
Lunch at Orto was amazing. It is a shame that I only went there on my last day of the trip. Wish I could have tried more of their dishes. Every single one is so special. Beautiful presentation. Lovely coffee. Friendly staff. Excellent customer service. Can't be more. Definitely will go back there more times.
To finish off a productive day in the city of watching a movie and asking locations for an event, I decided to finally try out this cafe. The cafe is under some residential buildings, but it does have a high roof and lots of natural light coming through, and they also have heaps of seating outside. Inside the cafe the tables are quite big, but the cafe itself isn't really spacious. Make sure to bring your sunnies, even if you're sitting on the inside, since the sun does come into your eyes.
What really thrilled me was the vibe. Itâs clear to me that the owners were in charge of every detail of the restaurant, and hired all of the young, good-looking staff, and have filled it, already, with love and personality. The owners were greeting friends who were stopping by; it felt like their friends were excited about being able to eat with them again. Our neighbours at the bar leaned over to rave about their dishes and enquire after ours. The owner knew exactly when to take our order and bring our bill; it was busy but she provided us with top service...
A pre-Ski Trip brunch led to the discovery of an amazing cafe by the name of Orto Trading Co., located just a 10 minute walk from Central Station. The menu consisted of an all day breakfast selection, and heavier lunch items for past 11:30. We opted for something from each, and got the famous Hash 2.0, the Cape Grim Skirt, and Polenta Chips with Blue Cheese Sauce. The hash was tasty and the flavours all worked so well together. I especially liked the asparagus, which was refreshing and added something different to the plate, but I would have liked more avocado, rather than an avocado puree. Also it didn't look as visually appealing as I was expecting, as I thought it would come as a stack like I had seen in the many Instagram pictures of this amazing dish, so that was a little disappointing.
everything is soooo delish in here ! too bad they only serve the baked eggs on weekend :'( definitely will come back for that! :D
try to order polenta! my friends did not like it that much but i think it yum!
Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Lovely cafe friendly staff. Had the mussels, scotch eggs and baked eggs. They were all delicious! We would come back for the mussels.
It was so good! I went during brunch and had the wagyu burger while my friend had the southern fried benny. The serving was very generous, had more than enough. Best to reduce the price and the serving. All in all, would definitely go again if I lived nearby !
Been her quite a few times and have always enjoyed it. The coffee and the food are great. Takes a little while to receive the food but that's because this place is usually packed with so many people and orders. Banana smoothie is delicious, and who would have thought fried chicken eggs and hollandaise would work? But omg it does and it's delicious, perfect hangover food
Orto never ceases to impress with its relaxed atmosphere, generous portions and quality of food. Buzzing with hipsters, dog owners and Surry Hills locals, this unpretentious cafe invites with its positive vibe, friendly service and hearty menu. Highlights of the breakfast menu include the ATB (avo, tomato and basil on sourdough), the brioche with scrambled eggs and bacon, as well as the individual sides that are beautifully prepared. Pastries and gluten free cakes seduce the sweet tooth among us. This is definitely one of Surry Hills most pleasant and scrumptious cafés. Thumbs up!
Poach your appetite with Ortoâs hash perched on an overpowering zesty bed of salad. Crisp with the creamy southern fried chicken benni and a side of bacon to satisfy those salty cravings.

#kningjaeats juicy fried chicken benni and Orto's hash. Love the comfortable setting of the place with great seating inside and outside. My first visit was rather early in the morning on a weekday so we didn't have to wait very long for our food and drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed both dishes although my hash was expecting more potato with my hash and the muffin with the benni was a little hard to chew on. I wouldn't mind going back again (especially being around the corner from work).
Best breakfast I have had for a long time. Very friendly, efficient service. The Brekky Joe - chilli on bacon on one slice of toast, egg on melted cheese on the other slice - was amazing. First time here and I hope it's not the last. Tip - they have some big tables which attract groups so get there early ...
Have you ever felt cheated after waiting forever for a table at a much hyped-up restaurant and the food turned out to be barely mediocre and then you hated yourself for wasting your time for nothing?  Orto Trading Co is the exact opposite . I was surprised that there were no queues on both of our recent weekend visits given the overall well-rounded-ness of this cafe. Look, they even have scotch eggs!
CARROT HOT CAKES â WHAT THE FUDGEEEEE! Itâs to die for that I canât wait to return especially for that. Itâs no doubt the only place iI know of who makes carrot hotcakes cakes like Orto trading co.
