Small coffee place, more like take away concept shop with some sitting in house.
Piccolo was awesome, and service was quick and friendly
This Shenkin has a cozy corner position with just a few chairs against the windows, so best for coffee or snack overlooking the street. The coffee was rich and rough, mostly the way I like it but a strange undercurrent that I’m not sure was intentional. Could be better for the high prices but still good.
Is it possible to still have a hangover 2 days later? Was walking down Erskineville Road from the station and stopped by on my way to Newtown... The sign on the window got my attention - "Bring your own cup and save $$$" - um, as if I had my own cup, but it lured me in. Bit warm outside and got them to turn my scalding hot long black no sugar into an iced coffee. The whole process took less than 4 minutes! Impressive!
Father’s Day in Balmain (not Newtown) opens with a good macchiato, milkshakes for the kids and some cappuccinos. They’re slow, but solid. But the menu is awesome - seldom do I struggle to pick because it all looks so good. I choose the shakshouka with chorizo. Good doesn’t describe it. Outstanding! Served with hot pita, made fresh, still puffed up from the oven. The sauce is so rich, so tasty, eggs cooked to perfection. Kids loved their waffles. Fresh, gooey, crisp. Banana caramelised and yum.
Service was friendly and prompt! I ordered the falafel burger and zucchini fries and both were delicious! The zucchini fries could have been a bit crispier, but the dip was fantastic. Yumm

We ordered two cup of Hot Capuccino was nice with good presentation . A little gem at Newtown. Friendly staff and quick service. The place was small, cozy & good ambience. Highly recomended.
Really friendly service . Nice selection of pastries and sweets. Both we tried were lovely. Just a cute little cafe overlooking king street. Coffee was good too. Check it out if your around the hood.
Something a lil' different for breakfast at Shenkin Cafe with the Ziva, baked filo pastry with olives, mozzarella, cheddar and ricotta served with a boiled egg, grated tomato, hummus, tahini and spicy coriander. Couldn't finish it as it was so huge. We also had the Aussie Breakfast with fried eggs, bacon, caramelised chorizo, mushrooms, baby spinach, grilled tomato and avocado. Another big dish!
What a lovely little cafe along King St Newtown! Coffee was really good needless to say. But what makes their drink great is their service. The people, their positivity is just contagious! I love how they are very warm and welcoming with their little cute cafe. They'll welcome you with big beautiful smile on their face, with positive vibe and just great to start your morning with such lovely people greeting you good morning with a nice hot coffee! Will comeback for sure! :D
Coming here without plan, the staff were vigorous, really share happiness to customers.I ordered a large latte, not bad.And tried their poppyseed twist, after heated, the bread was soft, full of fragrance.A place I will come again for grabbing a coffee.
The area is a little small, but the serving was enjoyable!
Absolutely loved it.
Ambiance: I loved that when you go in you think it's really small but if you want to sit down and eat there are more tables at the back which gave a cool ilusion, i went there with a friend and didn't want to leave 😁
Food: AMAZING. We tried the king's meal, which is grilled chicken served on a bed of roasted eggplant whit a sauce that is a mixture of yogurt, cilantro, garlic... amongst other things and it tasted like heaven, I had the shatshuka and OH GOD, it was amazingly delicious and huge, the. Read that came with it was freshly baked, simply WOW, fresh, good quality, not expensive, EXCELLENT food. Also Good quality coffe.
Service: it was good, and I think we were lucky because it was not so busy so food came fast and people were friendly.
I highly recommend going! Wish I lived closer so could visit more often.

Lovin' this healthy place in Newtown! Known as the suburb full of vegetarian and vegan cafes, me and my sis decided to give it a go. We ordered "The Forrest" - Crispy cauliflower, brocolli and chickpeas, roasted pumpkin, pickled eggplantand carrot on a hummus and pistachio base. The sis and I loveeeee cauliflower and this dish def is a stand out for us and the flavours deliver too! :)
This review is for the Shenkin Espresso Bar on King St.
Good coffee.
Clearly very popular with locals.
Delicious savoury pastries (spinach and cheese triangle, eggplant and sweet chilli scroll, bacon and egg triangle)
Will return for sweet pastries next time.
Three thirty-itis hit hard and we were in the heart of Erskineville so I tried shenkin since I'd heard they had a quality reputation. Coffee was solid, service very fast. Slices looked nice too.
This place blew me away! Absolutely amazing breakfast (I had the Israeli breakfast) and perfect iced Chai. Very friendly staff, had a wee chat to them on the way out and they seemed super chuffed that we enjoyed our food which is really endearing, the barista specifically asked about mine since he wasn't used to making iced chais. We also ordered a side of beer battered fries which were perfectly crispy and tasted so good, unfortunately we couldn't finish them as the breakfasts were so filling 😭
Consistently good coffee, and love these guys are open relatively late in the day. Short and sharp service means you're always in and out in a jiffy for takeaway.
My favorite coffee shop for a good morning cuppa! Their coffee is absolutely fabulous and the staff is super friendly which is perfect to start your morning.
I like their chocolate croissants as well as caramel slice a lot.
Coffee here is not bad. Mecca beans. Wait time is usually quite reasonable. Not worth a special visit but very good place for whoever wants a solid coffee on King Street.
Shenkin is a nice, relaxing place with great food. We ordered the original (vegetarian) Shakshuka ($16.5) and the Grilled Chicken wrap ($15). The Shakshuka was quite filling and tasty, the grilled chicken wrap was quite big, worth the $15 but was not anything amazing. Good customer service and would think about coming here again.
This Israeli restaurant is definitely a place full of surprises. Shakshuka tastes so tender and smashed hummus just feels like it can melt in your mouth. I have to say, SHENKIN may be one of my top Newtown favorites for quite a long time.
Love Shenkin. The wraps are massive and taste so good as they make their own bread for them. Labne on toast and the poached egg with avocado and falafel are a couple of my favourites. Great place for breakfast or lunch. Coffee is also nice
A friend and I tried to get the 'tella ball shake at Foodcraft Espresso at 2pm on a Sunday. I'm assuming the balls were sold out well before we arrived; we took it on the chin and moved on.
Luckily we ended up at Shenkin. I ordered the choco nutty milkshake which certainly made up for the lack of 'tella balls in my life, and the shakshuka with chorizo. The chorizo wasn't too exciting - maybe it loses it's smoky flavour once it's cooked in liquid? Everything else was fantastic and I enjoyed it all. A single extra pita bread cost approx $4 which seemed a little steep. There was a lot of sauce to go around.
Lovely food and staff . Had the most pleasant experience
Enmore main street at 10:30am ... you'd see the remnants of an ultra-active, food-obsessed Asian male wheel-chaired out of Shenkin Kitchen . Sporting a delirious grin and in a food-induced coma, you wouldn't believe he was the same cranky, underfed amateur brunch blogger just 45 min earlier. Shenkin Kitchen ... a cosy outdoor courtyard I drag two of the most important women in my life along to check this Israeli-themed cafe out. Taking the wife and mother out for brunch Middle-Eastern twists on Western brunch staples gives a wide array of amazing choices. A lovely waitress orders us the top three dishes. She also scolds us for an initial mistake of choosing a ' powdered ' chai latte over a honey-infused, sticky chai tea with soy. Honesty is best served brutal. The Bite - avocado falafel with poached egg, mushrooms, lettuce and dark rye toast - $16 The magic of ' The Bite ' is a nondescript fist-sized ball lazily straddled by one poached egg. Add dark rye with mushroom popsicles and a drizzle of mysterious creamy sauce. Just like my first-and-only appearance in the school debate team, I'm lost for words. The Bite - avocado falafel with poached egg, mushrooms, lettuce and dark rye toast - $16 Inside the deliciously crispy falafel crust is, lo and behold, a creamy avocado centre! Crunchiness (falafel and lettuce) with creaminess (avo and egg), deep earthy flavours and huge portion side leaves me in tears. The poaching job is beautiful, shown below .... Avocado falafel ball drizzled in a perfectly poached egg Lorie has a go at the Israeli Big Breakfast...way more than she bargained for. Being a team player, I got heavily involved. Israeli Big Breakast - srambed eggs with labanne, avocado, salad, salmon and pita - $18.50 Scrambled eggs beautifully fluffy, well seasoned. Smoked salmon and avacado always a safe bet and I loved the freshness of the salsa. Pricey but excellent value. Simple flavour combinations that just work House-made warm pita reminded me of two french be

My absolute favourite is the Angelita Malawach – Puff pastry served with hummus, grated tomato, spicy coriander & a boiled egg ($17). Cannot get past this stuff. There’s something super decadent about eating a slab of puff pastry twice the size of my face, for breakfast. And I’m a sucker for condiments – look at all those options! I got some toma
I have to say that Shenkin was the most amazing baked eggs I’ve tried so far! It was very rich in tomato sauce, had fantastic spices and there was a lot of variety of ingredients in it. Accompanied with the huge pieces of bread, this is definitely worth the price (approx $19). I only wished I didn’t have to share some with Mr C because it was simply that great! Grilled Chicken Wrap If you are hungry and a big eater, then I recommend you order the Grilled Chicken Wrap. If you aren’t, then try to share
Overall Shenkin is a bit of fun. By far some of the best coffee in the Inner West, they serve up some unusual food that really hits the spot. While staff can be all over the place, they always seem up for a chat, which is nice.
The ritual of going out for breakfast is something I still haven't taken full advantage of in this neighbourhood. It used to happen more often when we lived in Pyrmont and ate at our favourite local caf virtually every weekend but somehow my own creamy sc
Good traditional, great vibe, mixes feeling about the staff, but overall great experience every time.
Great coffee. They really know how to make a good brew in this place. Keeps me coming back.
Yummy Brekky and Great Service. I ate a green omelette which was so tasty and a freshly squeezed orange juice. The service was wonderful, and the food came quickly...definitely returning again soon!
Happy coffee drinking!. Hands down best coffee in Sydney, they use real chocolate, it's amazing! Staff is also friendly and cool, :))
Great service, delishious food! Highly recommended for hearthy breakfast. Coffee was a bit weak, but I'll give them anoyher chance.
Really good mocha, coconut hot chocolate, chocolate croissants and shakshuka.
Is-raeli good!. Really rustic, cool vibe made Shenkin an enjoyable place to hang out. The staff were super friendly, always checking up to make sure we were happy and enjoying ourselves. Above all, the food was absolutely delicious, just as good as the best israeli food you can find in Israel. I've only been there once and i'm already trying to plan a return visit! The Israeli wrap is a must have... so good!
You may think that $15 seems a lot for a falafel roll (The Shenkin Wrap) but it will change your life
Friendly service :). Had the shashuka, which was hearty and very filling; just the slightest hint of being spicy. Friend's lime frappe was really nice and refreshing.
Loved the service. Friendly helpful staff, exuding a positive vibe.
Cafe's interior is pretty cool too!
These brothers are on fire! The food is amazing, fresh and not the boring standards u find at a cafe. Very friendly staff who clearly enjoy where they work! I would recommend going there and checking out there coffee shop on king st.
Yet again you've made my day. I love Shenkin, The boys are amazing- super friendly and make the such love. ( (its a two coffee kinda place it's just that good- make sure one is a mocha they are to die for)
Have the Eggplant Shakshuka and the Labne plate- it will be too much for two people but both are delicious- served with warm rolls.
I would travel to eat that breakfast and I am very lazy pre-coffee especially on a Sunday!
Love Skenkin. Just great service and beautiful coffee. The Belgium chocolate Mocha is a must!! Always enjoy their breakfasts and their smiling faces.
You have my coffee loyalty Skenkin.
OMG!. Had a late afternoon snack here a few days ago: coconut milk hot chocolate, and a shared chocolate babka. I've had cravings for the hot chocolate ever since. Only wish I'd had a chance to go back while I was still in Sydney. The chocolate babka was crisp and flaky on the outside with a gooey chocolate centre. Absolutely delicious and big enough to share, but next time I'll go when I'm feeling hugry so I can have one to myself. Staff were so lovely and friendly. Needless to say I'll be going back. Highly recommend!
Perfect and the best cafe in Erskineville. I am a regular coffee customer at Cafe Shenkin and has been for a few months. AMAZING COFFEE!!!!
Best coffee in Sydney.
Bar is a coffee genius and a talented latte artist.
The staff here are the best in Erskineville. All very friendly and attentive.
I finally sat down and ate there today and let me say i will not be going anywhere else but Shenkin. I had the Shakshuka which was beautiful and rich with flavor and came with hot fresh bread which is baked in the cafe.
My mother had the banana pancakes and they were fluffy and creamy. The presentation on both dishes were amazing.
The vibe in this cafe is great. They have music playing and its quite busy.
I HIGHLY recommend this cafe. Can't wait to go back and eat :D
Visited last week. Food was good, coffee was also pleasant. Nice relaxed vibe, wished it was my local. Only qualm was that the orange juice was supposedly freshly squeezed to order and it really wasnt. Regardless, will be back.
Lovely food, coffee and people who work there. Couldn't ask for more in a local
I went here for a banquet dinner ($30pp) to celebrate my recent birthday. I approach banquets with caution as they are often the dregs of the kitchen. But... I had faith in Shenkin due to their high quality coffees and, I am pleased to report that I was not disappointed.
I ordered the eggplant special which was absolutly delicious. The banquet came with an assortment of dips (20). My favourite was the falafels and they were the best felafels I HAVE EVER HAD. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and were pleased with the overall dining exsperience. I would recommend Shenkin for any meal. Their passion for food and quality of service are a much needed respite from the lackluster eateries on king st.
Best coffee in Erko& Newtown , great chocolate croissant ...professional staff
Delicious! Order the babagonous. Service had improve 10 fold since I last went
Fantastic food. Went for dinner last night, we had the israeli banquet. The food was amazing and there was a lot of it, great value for only $30 a head. Best falafels, dips and pitta bread and its unlimited included in the price. The staff were friendly and attentive. A great evening and will definitely be going back soon.
Excellent. Good food good atmosphere. Throw in lots of saucy waitresses and waiters and it's a winner
Middle Eastern Breakfast. Great place. These guys are passionate about both thier coffee and their food which is always a winner. Went with a group of friends for breakfast. Had some of my friends shakshuka and it was delicious. I had an omelette with goats cheese, salmon, and avocado. Each time the food has been faultless.
This place is always busy, even on weekdays. Understandably so.
This has to be my favourite restaurant in Sydney! I go here at least once a week and am never never disappointed. The food is to die for... The best falafel I have ever tried! And the waffles, oh the waffles!!! Plus the coffee and hot chocolates are always expertly made and the staff are wondorous! Love. 15 out of 10 everytime!
Absolutely awesome coffee, and the few times I've had breakfast there the food was of consistently high standard. Loved the waffles!
Have beenmeaning to try the menu for a while after stopping by for takeaway coffees (which are some of the best around). Between us had the build to order Eggs Benedict and the specialty Shakshuka. Both were absolutely amazing! Highly recommend for a lazy Sat or Sun Breakie/Brunch/Lunch.
A slow decline.... I have lived in the area for 3 years, in which I have eaten at Shenkin, with friends on numerous occasions. Until recent, I have noticed that the quality control of staff and food has declined.
In addition to this decline, I am often left with a sense of urgency to rush to the toilet, which often leads me to question whether food is being prepared correctly or hygiene practices are being adhered too?
If the toast with pesto, shittake mushrooms and fetta is on the specials menu - do it.
So. so. GOOD!!. Shakusha - YES DEFINITELY with dips!! labne and hommus amazing!! comes with awesome fluffy pita bread to soak up the shakusha sauce............. foodgasm!
bureka - YES!! mushroom omg couldn't stop eating it.
Great coffee too, and beautiful place to be on a nice sunny day!
Best cafe in Sydney?. Amazing food, and amazingly large, so be careful how much you order. And with coffee from Proud Mary -- arguably the best coffee in Melbourne, hence the best in Australia -- Shenkin is setting new standards for the Sydney cafe scene. Service was a bit patchy, but Dean who makes the coffee and runs the show is bursting with good humour and enthusiasm. We'll be back!
Interesting food and tasty, reasonably priced, great service, warm decor. And opening for dinner soon - can't wait.
Love this place!. My first visit to Shenkin was the day after they opened, which was a while ago. Since then, Bah and his family have never failed to impress with their fabulous food and awesome coffee. Of course, like anything, food and coffee are very subjective, but in my travels, there isn't a lot that comes close to Shenkin. The ambience is probably the icing on the cake, which is warm, friendly and relaxed in an interestingly eclectic setting. It's so great to walk in, be greeted with a sincere welcome and smile, when it's a struggle to even be acknowledged in so many other cafes. I will keep coming back here to enjoy everything that these fine, humble and friendly people offer.
Pastries, coffee and milkshakes were great ....great location and pet friendly. Will be back!
My kinda shakshuka!. I just happened to be near erskenville when i realised that i hadn't had breakfast. pulled over - nearest cafe was shenkin. went in, looked at the menu and saw shakshuka on it! i asked the waiter if the chef was israeli and upon confirmation, ordered shakshuka. to say that i thoroughly enjoyed the meal would be an understatement as i also got to laugh at people who were ordering the usual eggs and bacon stuff! the poached egg part is new to me but i enjoyed it better than the traditional way so all credit to the chef for that! i'll be back every week guys. add more israeli stuff.
