I have often walked past this restaurant over the years as it was always full when ever I was wanting breakfast or a meal, but Sunday morning walking past to another place we decided to finally have breakfast here. We had the buttermilk pancake - not to my palate (not a pear person) but my partner loved it and the pear texture and poaching colour and the spice. The yoghurt sorbet balanced the sweetness very well. We both had the sugar-cured salmon which was a nice change to smoked salmon. Will be back to try other meals. The service was prompt, professional and welcoming.
The food, priced typically for the area, is yummy. Worth the trip if you’re a local but parking/transport is detrimental if you’re not.
Zinc is not somewhere you could rock as a loner. Not because the staff would treat you badly or because the menu isn't suitable, but because you would look around and see how much fun everyone was having with their big groups of friends and feel hopelessly left out. That in mind, this was the perfect venue to meet up with a long standing friend who I hadn't seen in a year - interesting but not too controversial menu choices, time conscious staff and a view of Potts Point human traffic to fill in any lull in conversation. We ordered pancakes with spiced pears and ricotta and a ham, provolone and mustard toastie. Each what we expected, well made and tasty and the menu was diverse enough that there was something for everyone. This place is a worthy contender in the vicious battle between potential brunch venues in Potts Point and should certainly be added to your folio of possibilities.
The bellies are calling out for sustenance, they don't care that it is Anzac Day & that it is raining. Buggles and Squeak must heed the call. We're not sure what will be open today or what we feel like eating, but decide that heading to Potts Point is probably a safe bet. As we drive down Macleay Street we notice a rare parking spot right outside Zinc ....decision made!
ZINC for US. My partner and I have been eating at ZINC since it opened around about 2001, I would think ! We love Sunday Brunch - it does not serve any form of Eggs Benedict however does serve an excellent meal of smoked salmon, poached eggs, baby spinach, and a wonderful sauce, on toast - which is just as good :-) ! The fruit toast is to die for and the tea is actually real leaf tea ! Lunch is very good and the evening meal is wonderful - hope they re-open at evening soon ! A great place to watch the passing parade and very pleasant staff - Peter and Nigel have done an incredible job to maintain such high standards !

Surprisingly fantastic/Now Closed for Dinner. Just went to book a table at Zinc and discovered it is now closed for dinner. Such a shame, we only just discovered it by default and we had 3 outstanding meals here. A local Potts Point celebrity told us the chef is opening a new restaurant in Potts Point, PLEASE serve the roast lamb, the moussaka, the liver pate with yorkshire pudding and the ice cream sandwich!
Ended up here by default Saturday night when Monopole & Apollo were full.
Thought they served the same menu for dinner as for lunch but it's completely different.
We had mains and dessert. Excellent Salmon with crisp skin and tasty, well made retro desserts.
Menu reads well with all the bases covered.
Excellent value for the modest prices charged.
Interesting wine list, a few off-beat wines available.

Zinc is our local restaurant and we can wholeheartedly recommend it. The coffee is great, breakfast and lunch menus are wonderful, dinner is excellent and the set course meal is great value for money - with great service to top it all off. Zinc is, and has always been, our favourite restaurant and within Potts Point, there is always a wealth of great restaurants to choose from.
Best dinner in potts. Have been living in E.Bay for a year and friends recently took me to Zinc cafe for dinner. I've have been back a few times now, its our new local dinner spot. We had Kangaroo for the first time and loved it. Also tried chicken pate, cauliflower and nut salad, lamb shoulder, chicken, eton mess and creme caramel all very good and great value considering the quality and price. Its good that a restaurant offers a decent plate of real food for under $30 rather than having to order a bunch of other bits to make a up a full meal. Also its the best spot in macleay st for people watching.
Fantastic corn beef hash and good coffee. Enjoyed excellent service from a very prompt, friendly and efficient waiter named Ben. Will be back!

I've been here for breakfast and dinner on a number of occasions. While I wasn't blown away with the day menu anything I tried on the dinner menu has been delicious. Lots of traditional staples with great interesting twists. Reasonably priced and pleasant staff.

Zinc...Golden egg.. This place seems to have the it factor. A veritable golden egg here. Corner of Rockwall and Macleay Sts, this trendy cafe restaurant is serviced by arrogant men in black - but way less cool than Will Smith and Co.
If you go beyond the serving staff, Zinc dishes up a good fress. The barista takes pride in their coffee making and the breakfast menu is fairly extensive. My poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the smoked salmon was certainly premium cut.
Choice of seating indoor or outside, it's a place to see and be 'scene'. Great selection of mags arrayed on the floor to read while you're waiting for your order to go or waiting at a table for the MIBs to arrogantly dismiss you.

Always superb - really!. I have been going to Zinc for years now, on and off, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has never - I repeat never - failed to live up to expectations. The food is simply superb, service is friendly (even if it falters it is always efficient) and the setting and atmosphere welcoming.
If you're up for an early dinner, ZInc continues to do its $25 for three courses set menu. You can't choose and there are no variations but to get three courses of great food in Sydney for $25 is amazing. (As of May 2010, I notice that the set menu is now $30 but still excellent value.)
From the a la carte menu I have never been disappointed for any meal. At night, for dinner, ZInc changes the lighting to low, with attractive candles on the tables - a nice, cosy setting. Lighting is so important and so many restaurants and bars get it so wrong.
Right on the corner of Macleay Street and Rockwell Crescent its great to sit in the window or even outside (where you'll have to sit for breakfast because the whole of Potts Point wants to eat here then) and watch Potts Point go by.
Zinc has a real neighbourhood feel about it (as does its close neighbour The Macleay Street Bistro) which means that, for dinner, you're usually able to get a table as it's not on the tourist trail. I'm amazed that Zinc does not appear in the SMH Good Food Guide, it's better than half the places in there. An 'undiscovered' gem. Discover it for yourself!

Nice large outdoor space and friendly folks who do good table service. I was there with a good, regular customer so that might have played into it, but a relationship is not something that all places will cultivate!
