-miso cod was flavourful 🍑💦🎇🎆
-spicy tuna roll wasn’t that amazing but still tasty (also, not spicy at all)
Date night here was great! Great service, great food! Well priced. A little gem in Potts Point. The food was delicious and fresh. Will definitely go back! 🤗 the pork robata is a must and the hot sake was divine!
Perfect food, perfect service. Lovely staff and everything was so fresh and DELICIOUS A+++++. The octopus was beautiful as was the salmon, best yakitori in town.

Love this place, although a little pricey. We can here with the Dimmi 50% off which was excellent value and took away any inhibitions to try various dishes.
The tempura prawns were very crispy and prawns juicy. Grilled oysters not bad with the miso and yuzu. Their sushis are great, as the rice is just like in Japan. We had the rainbow and the dragon roll (eel). The dragon roll was my favourite dish of the night. We also had teriyaki fish of the day. If you order this, be sure to get some rice as it was a bit salty.
Would go back again, but only if there was a good deal on. Look out for entertainment book 25% off, the rare 50% off dimmi, or their regular Monday $10 sushi rolls from 6-7pm.
Tried out this place on a Dimmi half price food offer and we were really impressed with the quality and service. We sampled cooked dishes like deep fried squid, grilled oysters as well as the sushi. Having tasted good sushi in Japan, we are often disappointed with what is available in Sydney but this place fared well - the rice was still warm and nicely vinegared, and there was much skill shown in the nigiri.
In terms of ambience, it was darkly lit, casual, but nice. The place has high tables and high stools and would not be easy for the elderly or disabled.
Service was efficient and friendly, but our last dish that we ordered after almost finishing our meal took half an hour to arrive as the restaurant was busy. So the tip is: order earlier if you want more!
Came here on a saturday night and we were seated on the sushi bar facing the sushi making chef, which was a lot of fun seeing how she made the sushi, and how skillful she is.
Ordered the new menu crispy rice with spicey tuna, udon, gyoza and the wagyu beef teppanyaki. The wagyu beed teppanyaki was served on a hot plate with fire underneath so we can cook by ourselves how cooked we want the meat to be which is good. The beef was nice and tender and the sauces accompanied it compliments the beef really well. Other than this, the other menus that we ordered was quite average and the price was a bit too pricey.
Sashimi is fresh. Udon is hot and tasty. Love the tempura as well! Healthy dinner. $40 for these is a bit pricey. There's not anything here which can't be found elsewhere, so might not come back again.
Stopped in for lunch, reasonably priced for the area. The food was great, place is comfy and very friendly staff. Also got a $50 bonus from Liven App from eating here. A must try!
Walked in dinner early Sat night, they were able to give us a spot on the sushi bar. The place was packed out pretty quickly, it's popular with a vast range of diners. Couples of date on either side of us, behind us was a family on the tables. The menu is a pretty traditional Japanese restaurant one, no fusion here. We got a mixed sashimi plate & a rainbow sushi plate with mixed of raw seafood. The raws were good. The sushi rice were well cooked. It was a good solid dinner, but nothing particularly smashing to make it really memorable or stand out from other places.
Great service and food! Their sashimi salad was so tasty and fresh! The price for the portion was well worth! My friend had udon and she was pleased with it too! Definitely will be coming back to try other delish items on their menu!
Loved sitting along the live kitchen and watching my soft shell crab hand roll being prepared plus it was delicious! I would also highly recommend the pork gyoza and the sizzling wagyu beef. Great food and great atmosphere.
A very safe and Australian traditional Japanese menu, nothing really authentic or creative. Having said that the food was excellent, outstanding tempura, sizzling beef was amazing and the cuts of sashimi were incredible. Service was friendly. The prices were on the high side, even for Japanese. A very safe bet.

Swung by here one afternoon hoping to snag their cod fish, alas they only have limited menu for lunch 😏. Tossing between coming back another day or having my lunch, i thought i may as well order from their limited lunch menu.
Veg and prawn tempura 3.5/5, lightly battered and fresh.
Seafood sashimi salad 3.5/5, kingfish, salmon, prawn on a bed of greens with jap ginger.
Decor is dark with a long sushi bar counter. Reckon it would be a nice place to dine in the evening.
An oldie but a goodie as the saying goes. Busshari s a gem in Potts Point serving really fresh seafood expertly and proudly prepared by the chef in front of your eyes. Be that the traditional sushi, sashimi or the more modern fish of the day carpaccio, you can't go wrong.
The oysters tonight were a bit disappointing, more in size than flavour. But the vegetable tempura was excellent.
Kitchen opens till 10. Enjoy!
My favourite Japanese restaurant in the Kings Cross area. The room is simple yet authentic and elegant enough. The food never disappoints. I'm a big fan of the sushi rolls and, when they have it, the otoro is sensational. It's nice that they don't try to pass off inferior tuna as otoro and only sell it when it's the real thing. As you would expect, Busshari also has a great selection of sake.
The food at Busshari is nice enough, though I wasn't blown away. The miso eggplant was listed as grilled on the menu but just looked and tasted like it was boiled. The dessert wasn't very exciting. However, I did like the cosy vibe of the restaurant and the open kitchen is a nice touch to see the chefs in action.
Busshari provides service that can't be beat. Perfect for a dinner date, or lunch time catch up with friends, the staff here are second to none, having the hospitality that Japan is famous for. We suggest getting daily specials or chef's selection menu items, as it's always fresh, exciting, and a little bit different from everything else. For drinks, there's a Washoku Lovers half price special on sake, and it'll match perfectly with whatever you order.
Busshari is our most favourite Japanese restaurant. Love the sashimi salad, the dressing is so yummy and with lots of fresh seafood sashimi. Beef tataki is also highly recommended. The presentation is impressive too. They have happy hour before 7pm daily, hand rolls and sushi rolls are half priced. All the staff there are very friendly and helpful.
It’s been disgustingly hot, hasn’t it? And you know it’s bad, when the lovely manager of Busshari, Yuko, apologises profusely for the heat and assures you that the air-conditioning is indeed running, as you walk in the door. I can see what she means though – no sooner had I positioned myself at the counter, I was covered in a sheen of sweat.
Excellent friendly efficient service with simple tasty Japanese food. Definitely deserves the support of locals and visitors alike. Just the right serving size for a light meal.
Busshari is only a short walk away from Kings Cross station in the heart of Potts Point. Busshari repesents the essense of Japanese cuisine. The decor is dark, ambient (making it so romantic) and has that 'upper class Japanese' feel.We were welcomed with warmth and friendliness and our experience was definitely a memorable and enjoyable one.
For our first experience of Japanese fine dining, we headed over to Busshari at Potts Point, excited to try some of their beautiful sashimi and sushi! We were really excited to have the sake tasting board, which let us try 3 different types of sake that varied in sweetness. We learnt that the lower the number on the sake, the sweeter it would be, and that was exactly our experience! My favourite was the Masumi ‘Genuine Pureness’, which really lived up to the name with a perfect combination of sweetness and dryness, combined with a little kick!
You must try sushi and sashimi here. They are really good. Other stuff is good but there sushi and sashimi is very fresh and nicely cut / presented. Highly skilled sushi chef.
We ate here for a 3pm lunch.
Spicy pork bone ramen noodle soup and spicy pork belly ramen noodle soup.
The service was good and fast.
Food came out fast.
The soup flavour was awesome.
The overall noodles nice too
Back when it was still cold and windy at night, my friend T and I checked out Busshari in Potts Point for a solid Japanese feed, thanks to Washoku Lovers. How to warm up? With some sake of course! Variety of ways to have it, but T chose to have it on the rocks. We were seated at the bar which is also super interesting – our super sushi master chef (sorry I don’t know the proper term for a sushi chef…) was kind enough to whip up a plate of various nigiri (including the most epic tuna belly I’ve ever had) and some uni…which I keep hearing everyone rave on about how special and rare it is. Unfortunately, much like oysters, it wasn’t to my liking and reminded me of having the whole ocean in my mouth. Sorry guys! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe I’ll learn to love it in time. We also tucked into the sashimi plate pictured first which was amaaaze. There were so many types of fish that I’d never had before – really interesting trying them all!
Went to this place for joint Birthday last month. Upon entering the venue, we encountered Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban by chance as they exited the restaurant. There were ten of us and we ordered almost everything, shared bits & pieces. The most memorable dish back then (and definitely will order by myself next time) was the SAIKYOYAKI MISO MARINATED GRILLED TOOTH FISH. The fish, soft yet bursting out with flavour that somehow raise the awareness of your five senses. A Stand Out Dish indeed. My 4.5 rate belongs to this alone.
Including Ramen O-san in the CBD and Kujin in Elizabeth Bay, Busshari makes up a trio of restaurants owned by Chef Kazuteru Oh. Busshari have begun serving Chef Kazuteru’s ramen on Sundays – limited only to 25 bowls, you have to be quick. Although you may as well go to the CBD outlet located in the Dixon House food court if you’re solely after ramen. Dining here though, you’ll have a different, more refined experience and a menu to match.
An authentic and high quality Japanese restaurant. We love the fresh sashimi plates and grilled wagyu steak and their sake.
The price is good for such a quality dinner. We will be back.
Busshari, an authentic, high quality Japanese experience tucked away at plain sight. When entering you will be warmly greeted by Yuko and her team. Early in the night they set the ambience with classical jazz pumping through their speakers but as the customers arrive the music dies off to allow for casual chatter to fill the restaurant. We were seated at the counter and greeted with a smile by Chef Nobuyuki. With nothing but excitement, I snapped some pics of the place and perused through their menu.
We made an effort to steer away from any typical Japanese dishes but it's hard to ignore our favourites. We started with Agedashi Tofu for two. As it arrived on the table, we marvelled at the bonito flakes dancing in the heat. The tofu was silky smooth as always and paired with a unique gooey sauce (unlike most places that drown it in tentsuyu broth)... it was a perfect balance.
As part of the "fillers" of the night, to which I call dishes that I use to make me full, I chose the Rainbow - a well-prepared assortment of large (a bite and a half) sized pieces of sushi with tuna, king fish, ocean trout, king prawns, cucumber and avocado. The dish was enjoyable but it was from here onwards they really stepped up their game.
We sat and watched Chef Nobuyuki masterfully carve and plate our sashimi platter. I enjoyed his professionalism as he double checks the dishes before sending them out.
Our Chef's Selection of Sashimi Plate arrives and it was a masterpiece. I noticed many customers dining in opting for this as well... and who can blame them.
Served before us was a selection of scampi, tuna, scallop, salmon, squid, kingfish, alfosino and ocean trout. As we scrambled to snap photos of the dish, I was salivating with excitement.
I hate cliches about sashimi but you WILL get piece after piece of melt in your mouth sashimi. It was hard to decide which one I liked more.
If you're a lover of excellent, fresh sashimi then I highly recommend sampling this. You won't regret it.
Yuko, Manager of Busshari, was more than helpful with suggestions which led me to my next two orders. Firstly, a serving of Toro Nigiri Sushi. Toro is the underbelly of the blue fin tuna and like beef it's graded by the marbling of the meat. A high quality piece of toro will be pail pink with rich white streaks. The meaty texture of raw tuna combines with the fat of the belly to create a buttery sensation in the mouth, with the flesh of the tuna melting as you eat it. This is a definite must try for all nigiri lovers.
We also tried their Sea Urchin Nigiri (two pieces). Sea Urchins, usually found amongst corals, are those sharp, spiky and poisonous things you see when snorkelling and can really dampen a trip if you accidentally step on it. Urchin actually refers to hedgehog, of which it resembles. What's actually plated is the sex organs of the sea urchin. It might seem a bit off-putting but once you get over the image, you'll enjoy the under water delicacy that offers a mouth-watering buttery and creamy texture... wrapped in a smokey tasting Nori.
To end the night, I have to definitely recommend their Pumpkin Creme Brûlée - with a side of mochi and coffee syrup. The Pumpkin brûlée was light and creamy... very smooth on the palate. I loved that it came out cold and the side of mocha with coffee syrup was subtle but paired perfectly. The only slight let down was no thick caramelised sugar topping and that satisfying cracking sound. Other than that it was deliciously moreish.
With the drinks, my wife and I could not agree so we sampled some sake and beer. She ordered their Bishonen "Beautiful Boy" sake with a high sweetness rating. It was easy to drink with a sweet and savoury taste to it. We're both quite unsophisticated sake drinkers, still very new to scene but enjoyed it very much.
One of the theatrical highlights was having the tray of cups brought to the table. I loved the little touches that make the meal stand out.
I ordered their Yebisu All Malt Beer... a large 500ML bottle at $18. A glorious simple and clean beer that pours out golden with a medium, white head... which fades relatively quickly. It was refreshing with only a mild dryness. The beer is two standard drinks so if you're driving, I recommend you share. We definitely over-ordered our drinks that night and my wife did her best in polishing off all the alcohol.
The decor is a combination of sophisticated dark woods, mismatched plates, high chairs and playful white lanterns that give an impression of dining under the moon.
I have to highly commend the customer service. They were efficient, polite, well mannered and non intrusive throughout the meal. It was a nice balance of being helpful and not too in-your-face. All the orders came out in a timely manner and you were made to feel welcomed and not rushed to eat and leave. Despite being busy the service was sufficient and attentive.
Sydney is now over-populated with non Washoku Japanese foods where you can save a buck or two... but if you're after an authentic experience that will delight your palate with sophistication then I'd highly recommend Busshari.... and if that isn't enough rumour has it Nicole Kidman has been seen dining here. I just wanted to to thank Yuko (Manager of Busshari) and Yuri (Washoku Lovers) for their invitation to sample their amazing selection.
WASHOKU LOVERS
If you are not already a member of Washoku Lovers, and I don't know why you wouldn't be, then I definitely recommend going to their page and signing up. They offer many perks at an ever growing list of Japanese restaurants.
In the case of Busshari, you can enjoy a free green tea ice-cream.

Busshari staff are particularly proud of their Soft Shell Crab Karaage ($18) making it into the Daily Telegraph’s list of the top hundred Sydney dishes last year. For good reason, too, it’s dry and intensely savoury. It’s perfect against Kubota Manju ($33/180ml); dubbed ‘10,000 Ostentatiousness’ it’s the star of their impressive sake list.Ease your way in with the daily Sake Tasting Set ($15/3) that’ll have you discussing the merits of junmai, junmai ginjo and junmai daiginjo like a sake connoisseur. While hot dishes like Saikyoyaki ($20) - a blackened piece of miso-marinated toothfish that flakes into buttery white curls when tapped with a chopstick - are great, Chef Nobuyuki Ito’s heart lies in sashimi
Slices of king fish carpaccio is fresh with the umami of dark seaweed,a tangy tickle of dill vinaigrette and ponzu jelly. It's a pretty dish with a little more than the usual soy and wasabi.
Always such an amazing, authentic Japanese cuisine experience at this place. Always expect consistently very fresh seafood and well prepared dishes. Ordering can be a bit confusing and a bit of a minefield if you don't know what you're doing - but the wait staff are extremely good at being both suggestive with menu items and attentive to your needs. Very impressive. Last time I was here we spent probably $50 a head.
Great service and truly has that authentic feel that makes you believe you’re not in Australia. The attention to detail and dedication of the chefs is contagious...
We arrived at the Busshari restaurant at just few minutes past 6pm but the restaurant was already bustling with activity. Half of the restaurant was already filled with customers eating or drinking and busy waiters rushing about. Upon arrival, we were politely greeted and then seated swiftly at the bar area where we could see the chef preparing the seafood for the night...
Besides being aesthetically pleasing, both rolls also aced in the taste department. Think perfectly seasoned sticky sushi rice. Think letting its star ingredients shine without the aid of mayonnaise or any other such condiments.
In a town where most of the sushi is of the conveyor belt variety, mass produced in factory units in Tempe and then trucked around the city, Busshari is a welcome outpost.
Good quality traditional Japanese food in the local area. Sashimi is very fresh. The only disappointment was the karage chicken where the flavours were slightly muted. Staff very friendly and would recommend!
Stumbled onto to this and it was a gem find.
The staff were so nice finding us a table as we didn't have a booking.
The food was amazing and seemed to be prepared with care and love.
The sashimi was fresh, the grilled eggplant with two types of miso was so good and the duck was pretty amazing as well.
Great service
Delicious food
The sashimi are very fresh
The salmon melts in your mouth like butter
Scallop is great too
Plum duck is a highly recommended dish too
Never been to quite fine dining authentic japanese restaurant before and it was the best. Food is full of flavours and well made. What an attention into details. My friends love sake tasting and staff are nice and gave me warm birthday celebration. Thank you so much.
Great food
Fish to rice ratio was on point.
Went with a group of 7 and each dish was incredible.
Definitely try the miso eggplant
On arrival we were presented with a very warm and inviting environment. The food. Wow. I have to say, was fresh, well presented, tasty and absolutely delicious. We had the gyozas, chilled brocollini in a sesame sauce, of which that sauce is amazing, karaage chicken, sizzling Wagyu and vegetables, nasu dengaku, sushi mi, and the tempura prawn and veg. All dishes were presented well, were as fresh as like they had just arrived from the store and tasted amazing. The portions for the 2 of us were perfect and the service was what you would expect from such a restaurant. Well done Busshari. We will be back 👍
