A popular cocktail bar in the evenings, Since I Left You has recently opened it’s doors for the city lunchtimes with their offering of ‘The Tuckshop’. Here you will find daily specials, with Kombucha, and delicious eating options to curb your hunger. This small and hidden spot screams fun with the comfy seating, board games in the corner, graffiti art and fun music. The high ceiling, and metal finish ceilings gives all the best of industrial vibes to this cafe/bar which paired with the exposed brick gave Nirry inspiration for his home office.
Cool little spot in the CBD offering daily specials throughout the week. They have a great concept which reflects going to 'tuckshop' back in the day. The food concepts are great too, the Danish pelse (available Wednesday) along with the spicy salmon poke bowl were the stand outs for me. The idea of buffalo chicken waffles was great, but flavour wise they missed the mark, lacking some flavour, as did the Mac n cheese toastie. Overall it's a great spot and by night it's also a bar, I'll be sure to head back and check it out.
Since I left You or SILY now does lunch. You can opt for a healthy poke bowl or something a little more naughtier like the cheeseburger toasties or their delicious reuben sandwich. If you work close by it’s a no-brainer for your lunch option. #sily #reubensandwhich
Nice place to meet friends, the music is good and staff are all very nice, we love the snacks a lot, the cocktail and brandy all very nice, will surly come again.
One of my favourite bars in Sydney - Since I Left You - has a rustic touch to it. This place is a gem in the summers - doesn’t get too crazy busy - once you are in you won’t want to leave in a hurry. Beer or wine or perhaps a cocktail - you can have it all!
Since I Left You (SILY) used to be my best kept secret bar down one of the alleys of the Sydney streets. With a creative cocktail menu and great selection of beers, I’ve wandered in then stumbled out many a time. Only now did I actually realise they’re also open for lunch! Combine that with their awesome cocktails and you have your boozy mid-week lunches sorted. On this occasion, we put our trust in the awesome staff for their personal recommendations.
‘Watch the stepsGet a drink, have a good time nowWelcome to paradise, paradise, paradise’. Does the opening line of The Avalanches’ debut studio album ‘Since I Left You’ have anything to do with the small bar of the same name in Sydney CBD? Get a drink and have a good time is what you can expect when you find this hidden laneway bar tucked away on Kent Street.
I've been enjoying the inspiration of Hey You lunch specials of late and this small bar seems to have some interesting and tasty options at a reasonable price. SILY Smoked Reuben - Smoked Wagyu, Sauerkraut, Russian Dressing and Le Superbe Swiss Gruyère Cheese. Served with a side of Cornichons ($9.75 with 25% Hey You special, normally $13) was good. Cut up into smaller finger sizes can make it a little more awkward to eat but I guess handy if sharing as a bar snack. There's noticeable smokiness in the wagyu and the swiss gruyere cheese is a winner.
Since undergoing a rebranding, Since I Left You celebrates its 7th Birthday with some fresh, new additions to the lunch menu. At first glance, the offerings seem to be a confused mix of items taking inspiration from a plethora of cultures – Hawaiian poke bowls, Middle Eastern “Wafflafel” pita pockets, American cheeseburger toasties and Mexican quesadillas (from a waffle iron, and coined a “Waffledilla” of course). For some reason, however, this eclectic assortment of dishes seems to work in their favour. A fun, vibrant menu, which is a bit of fun, a little bit SILY, and refreshingly different from your typical slick, inner-city watering hole.
Fell in love with this place! A beautiful and unique atmosphere, with great cocktails and food that matches perfectly! The cheese and caramelised onion toastie and the trio of dips was delicious. If you love cinnamon, the Little Grace cocktail is a definite must.
It's been some years since I've been SILY. It's an intimate little bar with an outside courtyard. I recall having amazing cocktails in a slender bar. As I come back with Matt, we walk down a little enchanted walk way and sit down in the sleek and alternative little bar. I've been in Brisbane for a busy week of work so I really just needed some chill time back in Sydney. Matt and I order some cocktails and sit back and relax.
In Short: SILY (Since I Left You) Sydney is the spot if you’re up for a quick bite at lunch, or in for long and lazy drinks with friends, SILY is one of the more unique, yet relaxed small bars in the city. Come for the promise of a chilled out vibe, stay for the awesome toasties, drinks, and poke bowls.
Hidden little gem on Kent Street, beautiful fairy lights, great backyard seating, live music. Love the decor.
Their Mac n cheese waffle was amazing.

“Fairy lights, a dartboard and a burger served in toast, but somehow it’s better than the sum of its parts,” my dining companion muses. She’s summed up this little bar so perfectly I’m left wondering if she should write this whole review... Since I Left You is a six-and-a-half year old small bar by Nick White. It’s named - not for a terrible breakup - but for a track (and debut album) by The Avalanches. The lyrics that inspired Nick to open this bar are painted on the wall, encouraging you to get a drink, and have a good time.It seems like sound advice, so we got stuck into some wine, and a lovely Hawthorn Golden Ale ($9). Earlier this year, Since I Left You did a bit of a rebrand, and it’s now affectionately known as Sily. They’ve emphasised the Art Deco connection to the space in their new logo's clever font choice, reflecting the beautiful Deco bar back, and Deco lights dangling from the shiny, pressed tin ceiling. While toasties – like the awesome Cheeseburger Toastie ($16) my dining companion referred to – have long been on the menu, the rebrand called for something new. “Flipping through a hospitality catalogue, the first thing I saw was a waffle iron,” explained Nick, who is clearly fond of signs from the universe. So he embraced the waffle, giving it his own spin in...
[invite] Bianca: Working outside of the CBD means it’s rare we get to enjoy the Sydney CBD bar scene, SILY (formerly Since I Left You) has been charming the city crowd since they opened in 2011 and it’s easy to see why. Part of the magic is locating the inner sanctum, with a gorgeous cobbled stone laneway leading to an outdoor courtyard that fills quickly with an after-work crowd. All watched over by the ‘Torch Carrier’, the striking five-storey artwork by Fintan Magee.
A cool lil joint, to my knowledge, its name is based off the avalanches song. They have cool hip hop gigs there. It looks awesome in the evening and not too bad during lunch. Lunch on a thursday was pretty packed, food is between pub and... wholefood? I got a poke bowl, sushi rice with spicy salmon,it was delicious and id go back to try the other bowls. My friend got the belgian waffle, it was pricey, $14 for 4 waffles a bit of nutella and cream, i feel like youd be better off getting a few different dishes to share or get poke bowls. Keen to go there at night.
Since I Left You doubles as a hip bar with amazing food and an awesome sentence that directors love to incorporate into their movies for juicy scenes. Imagine Brad Pitt passing Jennifer Aniston on a fictitious street and complimenting her on how great she looks and Jen hitting him with “Oh yeah, I’ve been exercising a lot more and eating healthier….since I left you.”
Visited this place for lunch today for their famous mac and cheese waffles. They were cheesy and tasty. My friend ordered corn chips with guacamole. The sheer amount that they served was impressive. Also tasted a bit of the cheeseburger toastie, another good meal. Would recommend it for a good lunch.
This bar is an absolute gem! It's small but cosy inside, the bar tenders are lovely, the ambient music is great, and I can actually have a conversation with the person sitting opposite to me here without screaming at the top of my lungs. They seem have a great ranges of drinks and some rather interesting food as well.
We came here on a Saturday night after dinner at about 9 with a group of 10 people or so and had no problems finding seating inside.
Saw the Mac n cheese waffles advertised on Urban List and had to try! This place sits down a cute fairy light laneway, and has a quaint courtyard and a funky indoor area with cool bar and wall murals.
The staff are quite rude and not helpful unfortunately, not even letting you take a menu from the bar back to your table!
However the food makes up for it. We had:
- guac and chips. A great big serving and amazing guac.
- Mac n cheese waffles. Lived up to the hype. Crispy and cheesy and divine!
- cheeseburger toastie. A unique take on this mash up and tasted like maccas in a toastie!
- onion and gruyere toastie. Sweet, simple and crispy.
A really nice selection of bar food, and a great relaxing spot for a Tues night catch up with friends.
I stopped in to catch up with insta foodie friend where_do_i_eat_pete for a quick drink. A cool bar with a great courtyard and love music. There is a very large and cool mural and a number of tables in the courtyard. There are also a few tables inside. I had a look at the cocktail menu and ordered a nice whiskey cocktail called Keith Bourbon. A great stop for some casual drinks.
The small bar of my dreams. This is a gorgeously arty space that was love at first sight for me. A small sophisticated indoor space and a boho courtyard.

Located in the middle of Sydney’s CBD, Since I Left You small bar offers a chilled-out trendy space to impress your friends and colleagues. The cosy, art deco-style bar, is run by two friends, Nick and Elvis, where their ethos is all about good drinks, good food, good art and good service. To celebrate the bar’s fourth year of running, Since I Left You has brought to its courtyard a new five-storey mural by one of Australia’s most prominent global street artist, Fintan Magee. The impressive 18 metre tall portrait titled “The Torch Carrier” (picture below) will loom over the rear courtyard of the bar. Co-owner Nick says that the unveiling of Fintan’s new artwork marks a new era for Since I Left You, and feels the mural will breathe new life and personality into the bar’s unique courtyard space.
Celebrating its Fourth Year, Sydney’s Since I left You small bar is ever evolving. They landed a major street art coup with one of Australia’s most in-demand street artists, Fintan Magee, painting a five-storey portrait. The mural, a 18 metres tall piece entitled ‘The Torch Carrier’ will loom over the outdoor courtyard here and is an amazing piece that adds heaps of character and oomph to the space. We pop in to check out the mural and their new cocktails at their launch event.
Had a lovely evening sitting out the back area. Great nibbles. Well mixed cocktails. Good service. Music was not loud, we could hear each other. Will go back again.
Dropped into SILU one time for a mate’s birthday drink after we’d gone to Baxter’s prior. Located at 338 Kent street… look for the man imprinted on the glass window (see above) and you’ve found it. There are 2 parts to SILU, the indoor, high ceiling, rather fancy indoor area and a courtyard space with a few old chairs in a concrete paved space. There is a big storage thing to the side with the name/brand painted on it. That’s about it really. We looked over the menu and picked their emerald city drink. It was green, sugar lined rim, and it had midori. Should have read the ingredients list instead of thinking the WOOz reference was cuutte. :) Still.. yeah, it was neat to be able to have a tipple here.
After stumbling across it a few weeks ago, accompanied by friends who wanted to relax with some wine after dinner, I paid Since I Left You a visit last night. Tacked away in an old converted warehouse building on Kent Street, Since I Left You is another welcoming addition to the fast gr owing small bar scene in Sydney. Stepping into the bar via a cobble stoned carriageway, I felt like I was transported into a movie scene set in New York in the 1920s. The deco is sleek, minimalist with a back-lit wall behind the bar, long leather banquette with cushions down one side of the room, glass coffee tables and art deco posters. We arrived some time after 9pm and found the place buzzing with conversations, and of course standing room only inside. A glance of the menu revealed a reasonable list of wine, cocktails and beer; antipasto plates and small dishes are also on offer if you should feel peckish. Considering we had dinner and a large amount of beer at the Bavarian Bier Cafe a few streets aw
Nice down to earth place to grab a cheeky drink. A group of us got some drinks here the other night midweek, the toasties are really yummy and staff are friendly. Non pretentious and just cosy. Great to come.
Went to check out this bar on Valentines Day and nice, this bar is swish! The staff were classy and the drinks were stiff - good change not have it the other way round ;)
nice place to take people if you want a relaxed sophisto cocktail, smoke and giggle. The bar is inside but there is an outside seating area in a back alley cul de sac. Very cosy and tres chic, will come back once I'm a sophisto.
Like it, cocktails nice but not spectacular. We came with a group of 4 on a Friday night at 630pm. it took about 15-20min to get a table in the outside 'courtyard/alleyway' area. The drinks (at $18 a cocktail) were nice, but i felt slightly unbalanced... With most of the cocktails i found if they had just added a little extra something then they would have been perfect, most of the dribks were too sweet for my taste and i ended up with a gin and tonic.
We tried a variety of the foods- the trio of dips was delicious and good value at $15, the toasties were nice as well. The best thing on the mixed platter was the cheese (mushrooms a close second). Overall it was a good experience and i would return, places like this make me glad Sydney is moving towards an intimate bar/wine bar scene.
Gorgeous Wine!. LOVE this place. The perfect venue for a mid week catch up with a girl friend over delicious wine in a seductive and intriguing location. Staff were lovely and the wine list was impressive with Spanish Reds always winning my heart!
Tucked away find in the CBD!. Visited on a Wednesday night around 6pm. Easy enough to get a table outside, promptly welcomed and served, friendly service and totally unpretentious atmosphere. I will definitely be back to try some of the wonderful sounding cocktails and gourmet nibbles that sounded much more enticing than most of the hot dogs, toasties or burgers served at other CBD small bars. Keep up the good work!
XxHOOCHxx cocktail is the bomb!!!!! Fantastic, unpretentious, attentive service- bringing us chairs and clearing our tables timely as more people joined/left the group. Cocktails are made with love & creativity. One of my fave hangouts.
Great lil find! Scrumptious drinks and you can grab something to nibble on too. Super nice as someone in our group spilt their drink after a few sips & they were kind enough to make another one for free. Thanks guys! :)
Little bit of New York in the heart of Sydney!. This place has taken the best of Melbourne (the unpretentious but elegantly-executed outdoor bar scene in the middle of the city) and New York (rear courtyard with towering sky-scrapers on either side, and timeless yet hip art-deco feel) and turned this it the hottest newcomer on the Sydney bar scene. The ambience is spot on and actually makes me want to drink in the Sydney CBD again. My mango and raspberry daiquiri was the freshest cocktail i've had in ages and felt more like a 30Euro offering from Ciprianis than a $16 affair. The boys behind the bar were as engaging as they were handsome, giving the place a friendly and upbeat vibe.
This is such a popular bar. We arrived at 6 and it was fully booked. So we went again at around 9pm and finally got a table.
It is pitiful for us for missing the live band on that evening.
We truly love the atmosphere here. The cocktails are nice and people here all friendly.
We will find another time to revisit SILY and next time we will book in advance!
Friendly staff and cool space. Drinks are good and prices are fair. I'm not sure if they serve any food as I just went for drinks but I'll definitely go back for some cocktails.
Nice cosy place! Food are great. Perfect place to go for Friday lunch with colleagues. One of our colleagues food was delayed and she went to ask how long she'll have to wait. Her meal was delivered within few minutes with a credit to be used for next time, no fuss. What a great service!
A nice vibe to the place. Nachos was good too.
Cosy Lane courtyard with live music, casual menu and good cocktails
One of my favourite bars in Sydney. It’s a great find! Love the ambiance, fairy lights in the courtyard, amazing decor, great ambience, friendly and helpful service, great list of cocktails and food options. Highly recommend it.
Awesome and funky bar with an indoor area as well as a courtyard nestled in between office buildings. Great cocktails, good choice of beer and wine, and the food is delicious. Hardest part is finding a seat in the courtyard on a nice and warm day, but once you do you can settle in and enjoy all it has to offer!
