Great interior sets the vibe for an Asian feast. So many choices on the menu lead to overload when trying to choose what to eat. Food was served promptly by polite and jovial attendants and was hot and delicious. Best time to go is before or after lunch time for the surrounding office buildings as it is always busy. Definitely worth stopping in.

Our favourite place to try the Peking Duck Bao when we are in this part of the city. The Wontons in Chilli Oil is also pretty good. For the newbies. a good place to start would be to order the Assorted Dim Sum Entree which gives a decent introduction to the flavours on offer. Service is a bit hit and miss, hence the 4 stars.

I really enjoyed feasting on a selection of dumplings washed down with lots of Jasmine tea. Didn’t try too much else on the menu. Thought the service pretty good, and plenty of things to choose from.

If you love Chinese roast meats, this is your place! I had a craving for specially roast sweet bbq char siu pork on noodles and this place delivered the goods. The meat was a generous portion, a great flavoursome marinade and also nice and lean which was perfect. The noodles had the right chewy texture and there was also a good amount of green veg packed inside my take away box. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Great authentic Hong Kong style food with a Barangaroo style fitout, classic dishes were flavourful and not too salty. Well balanced and good quality broth and noodles. Portion sizes not large but sufficient. Dim sum also velly Nice

Probably one of the most reasonably priced restaurants in Barangaroo. Old town Hong Kong gives good value for food. The dumplings were delicious. The roast duck was tasty and soft. But the chicken was a little too dry. Could have been better.

Gorgeous little place to eat with the family. I went in tonight with my family for dinner & it was great! Was quiet early in the evening (we arrived just after 5pm & it was a full house by 7pm. Super friendly service that made us feel welcome from start to finish, especially with young children. Never felt rushed, like we had to vacate the table because it was busy, as it can be sometimes with busy restaurants.
Great vareity of choice on the menu. Love that the menu was straight forward, simple to read & that photos accompanied many of the menu items, definitely helps when making choices about what you would like to eat. We had: steamed bbq pork buns, steamed mix mushroom buns, old town pan fried pork & vegetable dumplings, shredded vegetables with bun, roasted pork with handmade bun, san choy bow with peking duck meat, short soup, honey chicken, vegetarian fried rice with egg & stir fried beef with rice noodles. Everything was absolutely delicious! Beautifully presented & fresh.
Table service was excellent & discreet as to not disturb the dining experience. Empty plates were cleared promptly throughout our meals.
Loved this everything about this place! We will definitely be back to dine again.

Following the success of Old Town Hong Kong on Chinatown’s Dixon Street, the Cantonese restaurant opened up a second outlet in the new dining precinct of Barangaroo. I was excited to attend a tasting event in celebration of I Ate My Way Through’s 10-year anniversary. Unlike the 2-storey layout on Dixon Street, the new Barangaroo outpost spreads out on a single level with floor to ceiling windows. When the neighbouring office blocks dim their lights and the street becomes quiet, you can easily spot Old Town’s bright shop front sign from distance.

Decent fancied up Chinese food in the Barangaroo food district. The vegetarian dumplings were nice though the skin was a bit fragile and sticky. The service was pretty quick and the food was presented well.

Wow! To believe it has been 10 years since the beginning of this blog. From it’s humble beginnings of posts that recounted weekly dining experiences filled with photos taken on one of those early digital cameras, this blog has grown exponentially and into a team that love to share their own experiences. With every new contributor that comes and goes, what has remained at the core of this blog is the common love for food. I started off as one of you guys! Just an avid reader of all things food and travel, but I’m glad I made the transition into a contributor because this blog has allowed me to share a piece of who I am but more importantly, become part of a larger community that share the same passion.

Old town was on Barangaroo certainly caters to a different clientele than the one at Dixon st. service was significantly improved, the floors were not sticky or oily and things looked very clean and new. The downside is the prices or serving size is reflective of a higher end Chinese restaurant. Good if ambience is important but don't expect a cheap takeaway place.

Edit: went back a second time and shared dishes with some colleagues and was more impressed this time. The old town fried chicken in particular was quite good.

Very smart plating of the sweet and sour porn. The thing I hated the most about s&s pork is when it gets soggy at the end. Old town has obviously put some thought into the and separate the sauce! I like places where they consider diners! Great service! Love the dumplings as well~ NO MSG!! Very rare for Chinese restaurant! Will re-visit!

If there were one thing I miss most about Hong Kong, it would certainly be the food. I still have the moment perfectly carved in my brain when I tried my first ever Peking duck and there was no going back.

Since then, it’s been a tough journey in search of this ever-lasting perfect Peking duck. Then one day, my foodie pal Jason sends me on a mission to check out this new place at Barangaroo, called Old Town.

Please welcome Arvin to the Spooning Australia fold as our new contributor. Full review and Arvin's fantastic pics are now live so clickety click and get your hungry on!!

Delicious authentic Chinese cuisine. The BBQ pork and duck were very tasty. I also enjoyed the fried rice with salted fish. Make sure you get there early because it gets quite busy!

We were here to celebrate 10 years of the I Ate My Way Through blog. Congratulations on a great achievment, it was lovely to re-acquaint and to meet all of your contributors. This was a great location to celebrate this occasion in the relatively new dining precinct of Barangaroo. Old Town Hong Kong is a bright vibrant restaurant with exposed brick and a modern feel. Ming and his staff were great hosts, very friendly, accomodating and attentive.
The food was extremely tasty and innovative. The Peking duck bao, need I say more?
We also had the pan fried pork dumplings in birds nest to start, the dumplings were fresh and delicious and the birds nest added a crunch for texture. Beware when biting into the dumplings they are super juicy and may squirt their soup.
We sampled the delicate flavours of the chrysanthemum bean curd soup with pipis in their shell. The chef here has amazing skill; this dish was presented very nicely, with the beancurd sliced into many slithers looking very much like a flower.
For the mains we started with Old town crispy chicken, which was amazing. The chicken was succulent and coated in a crisp batter with a herb and spice seasoning. Even better when combining this with the flavour packed slightly sweet, chilli vinegar sauce. Then came the pan fried scallops and the stir fried chilli prawns both dishes were nicely cooked and were full of flavour. Next we shared the panfried diced beef with red wine sauce which was served in a crisp roti like bowl. The beef was tender, the red wine sauce was delightful and the crisp roti like bowl adding some texture. Now onto my favourite dish for the evening; the diced seafood in sauce on baked pumpkin. This dish was something new to me, it came out as a halved and baked butternut pumpkin acting as a boat for the diced seafood sauce. There were three layers to this dish the baked and slightly smashed pumpkin, next there was a layer of rice and this was topped with the seafood sauce. The flavours of this dish combined nicely with the slightly sweet pumpkin and the saltiness of the seafood sauce, very tasty.
For dessert we started with a small cup of mango custard and the spectacle that was the carved fruit platter with mango pacakes. The platter was nicely presented with the fruit decoratively carved. The mango pancakes were the pefect way to finish off the night, beautiful pillow filled with mango and cream very delectible.
