Review Big Bite On Pitt - Sydney

James Keogh
I cannot overstate how good this place is, it is a hidden gem in Sydney's CBD and one of those places that if you know, you know! PRO TIP: if it's busy (which it usually is) the roasted veg sandwich is usually made much quicker than the other selections so your order will come out quicker if you get that...

Best sandwiches in the city for sure!!! Simple yet delicious and full of flavour. Amazing value for the size of the sandwich. Always fresh, crispy lettuce, well cooked chicken and the bread is *chefs kiss* đŸ€ŒđŸ»

Went at 1:49pm and most options were sold out and there was only one type of bread left (brown) not even any wraps. Sandwich was good and sizeable. A good option for a relatively cheap feed in the city centre.

Wanna order grilled chicken but came a bit too early, chicken hasn't arrived yet. Ordered portuguese chicken instead. The serve was sooo big with 7.5/10 flavour. Would def come again.

Holy mol. I understand the hype! I had the Wednesday special — veal snitzel — and it was delicious. Well seasoned, fresh salad, pillowy soft bread. Will return to try the salad!

Big Bite is truly an institution with their wonderful large sandwiches. The service is quick despite the queues attesting to the quality. I've been going since 2008 and have never been disappointed. It's a family business that keeps things simple and delicious.

These sandwiches are MASSIVE. I personally love the chili grilled chicken sandwich myself. I also usually pick up a bundaberg while I’m there. Used to be cash only but they take cards now so win win!

Massive sandwiches for $12 each, probably enough to share half half if you don't have a huge appetite. Tasty as well

Huge sandwiches where pictures truly don't do it justice. The famous Big Bite on Pitt was a must visit, so I ordered the chicken schnitzel to test it out.

The sandwich is bigger than my hand by a fair margin, with a large portion of meats within. The bread was good, soft, a glorified version of white bread whilst the schnitzel was a tad dry albeit still decent. I found that there was too much bread to meat ratio due to the sheer size of the bread, however still a decent sandwich nonetheless.

Worth trying for the sentiment and experience, as I doubt you will have a bigger sandwich!

Food: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Value: 3/5

Overall: 3/5

Probably the best sandwich shop in Sydney. $11 for regular/large sandwich or wrap. $7 if you want to get a ‘small’ sandwich (which is still larger than a normal sandwich). Service is good but efficiency in the ordering process could be improved. If in doubt, order the lemon pepper chicken, chilli chicken or sausages if available.

Delicious sandwiches very well-priced for the generous portion you get. Try once and you'll keep coming back!!

Super sized sandwiches and salads

The sandwiches are enormous, the salads are delicious - made with love, home made bread and generous quantities of delicious fillings, this is probably one of Sydney's best value lunches!!
Claire
Always fresh and delicious

I have been going here for years and they've never disappointed.

Delicious and huge so it's hard to finish on my own

Just a simple, fresh, delicious face-size sandwich; nothing fancy, but sometimes simple is good. It’s close to my office so we decided to have a try. A long line had 15mins waiting time.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
Please don’t let my photos ruin your choice. As I look a photo of the sandwich hours later when I got my mum one for take away. But trust me bind blowing sandwiches

This is a little sandwich shop my friend made me travel from Ashfield into the heart of Pitt st because my crazy Mexican wanted this chicken sandwich.

At first I was thinking this guys off his head. But boy it was well worth the travel. It was amazing I could only eat half of the Portuguese chicken sandwich with lettuce tomato and avocado and some mayo. Because it was massive.

The chicken is moist. Supper fresh. The head must be made on the premises because it was out of this world! I highly recommend it.

How does my Mexican. Friend know so many good places in Sydney when I was the one born and raised around here.
Dominic Svensson
Good ingredients and good bread. Nothing particularly fancy but it makes a good sandwich. The sandwiches are larger than average but certainly not the biggest around and the ingredients aren't really packed in, so the price seems rather high (e.g., North does bigger sandwiches for a lower price).
Anil Thomas
Fantastic value! These are massive sandwiches for a great price with really fresh ingredients. I was extremely impressed.

Be aware that you will get called to order your sandwich first and then you pay once they've made it. The people outside will all be waiting to be called to pay.
Amazing outlet run by the family

Best sandwiches in Sydney? Australia? The World?

If you don’t work in the city, you’re really missing out! I’ve had Big Bite on Pitt on my ‘To eat’ list for ages now, but because I don’t work in the city and BBoP is only open Mon-Fri, I could only long-to-try. But here was our opportunity, the very first time both my wife and I had a week-day off together (due to arriving back from the States this morning), fighting jet lag we headed to Pitt St for a Big Bite sandwich!

We’ve probably walked past this place countless of times and had never noticed the skinny arcade in which BBoP is located within (arcade is called 250 Pitt). And because it was only 11am (we were already hungry as our stomachs were still on West Coast time), there weren’t any lines and in a matter of minutes we had our long awaited sandwiches (or wrap) in hand.

First impression, ‘wow that’s a big sandwich!’ so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth ($11 each, not displayed online). And our suggestion is to take these babies away (Hyde Park if it’s a nice day or back to your office if you’re based in da City) as seating is very limited (only 3 tables for 2).

We ordered Poached Ginger Chicken on brown bread, and the Rare Beef wrap. The sandwich could easily feed 2 (an abnormally large slice of bread, presumably cut from a big round loaf), while the wraps looked on par with a standard sized wrap, although the skin was thicker than usual wraps thus it could also feed 2 if you were planning on having a light lunch.

Poached ginger chicken sandwich - the bread was out of this world! Such soft bread, while the crust was thick and chewy; the greens (methinks spinach leaves) and tomato slices were fresh; mayo/butter spread was just the right amount (applied thickly enough while not being messy); although the poached ginger chicken was on the bland side, I didn’t even get a hint of a ginger flavour.

Rare beef wrap - this was harder to share as it wasn’t pre-cut in half (although I’m sure they will happily oblige if you asked them to slice it); the wrap was nice and thick (similar to Lebanese bread) both chewy and crunchy (we opted to have it toasted); veges (lettuce and antipasto capsicum) were fresh; and the rare beef was what you’d expect from thinly sliced sandwich meat.

Our end verdict, did the sandwiches live up to the hype and our expectations? Yes! And I had expected much from BBoP. Was it a step above your regular cafĂ© sandwich offerings? Certainly was! The stand-out was the type of bread and wrap they used. Were the flavours and selections out-of-this-world? Hmmmmm, still undecided. I would love to come back to try their other flavours before I can give a definitive answer; while the daily specials which are only available on the given day of the week, seemed very interesting and I’m sure gets regulars coming back day after day. Was it value for money? Yes, Yes and Yes, especially when compared with the price of food we’d been putting up with in the US of A over the past weeks.

So - best sandwiches in Sydney? I’d say it has to come pretty close to it! Best sandwiches in Australia? I think if there was such a tournament, BBoP would be a finalist! But, best in the world? Unfortunately not, still fresh in our culinary minds from breakfast 36 hours ago in San Francisco, we had this awesome sourdough ham and egg sandwich and a sourdough wrap with crispy bacon and egg, so in this head-to-head with BBoP, unfortunately BBoP would come off second best as being the best sandwich we’d had this week.

But if you haven’t tried a Big Bite on Pitt sandwich before, please come on down and try! You won’t regret it! And if you work nearby, come on down just before the lunch rush to beat the crowds. Then take your sandwich back to the office, treat yourself and step away from your work while having it, as it deserves your full attention. Not to mention, it’ll require both hands as you try to hold everything together as you take big bites!

Crappy photos but amazing sandwiches. Get the veal schnitzel if you happen to be here on a Wednesday as they have daily specials - otherwise the lemon pepper chicken is a no brainer ($11 each). I've also had the smoked salmon if you're looking for a 'lighter' option. These sandwiches could easily be two portions if you're not super hungry!

Truly a value for your money. The eatery is located in a small lane and not visually findable but they have amazing selection and lunch is just $11 for any option. I ordered lemon pepper grilled chicken in brown Vienna bread and I was awestruck with the size. They give the sandwich in a aluminum foil and you can either take away or eat it at the tables there. Although they don't have plates, you'll have to open the foil and use it as one.
Chicken is juicy and tender as well as tasty. Fresh lettuce and tomatoes are also in the sandwich. I'll surely go there again for other options. Must try.
Prida
Good sandwich joint that’s always very busy during lunch time. Portion is huge. Value for money. Lunch menus are at $11. Had the rare roasted filet of beef and would come back to try other menus.

One of the best sandwiches I've had in Sydney. The staff is really good and with the busy times, they don't get frustrated.THe have a great system in place when you go order there.Try the chili chicken on rye bread and ask for feta cheese and extra chili on top for an extra dollar.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
This lunchtime institution serves sandwiches that are bigger than Ben Hur, and you'll want to get there before midday to avoid the queues that snake out onto the street from this small sandwich shop located inside this Pitt Street arcade.
There's a small menu of ten or so regular sandwiches and a daily special like the Thursday roast lamb. Excellent value.
Foodblogs
Just like the name, the portion of their sandwich is huge! My favourite so far is the chicken schnitzel. Chicken is quite tender and not dry. Yum.

I visited Big bite on Pitt.
It was very good quality of sandwich and it was a good volume.
I ordered sandwich that the staff recommended was awesome😁
I want to go big bite on Pitt again and also I will recommend it to everyone!!!
Leon
I visited Big Bite on Pitt and ordered Chilli Grilled Chicken sandwich. It was huge and I could easily have them for two meals. I could see why Big Bite was popular but it was neither exceptionally tasty or exotic that I would visit again.

Thursdays are the best!! I absolutely love Big Bite on Pitt! Their Thursday special, Grilled Lamb, is by far the best sandwich, it's a shame it's not available every day :(

$10 for a massive sandwich the size of your head. Quick, fresh, and great service!
Will Eat Yum
Located in a dodgy looking mall on Pitt St (there's a gentleman's club in the mall). But don't worry, the queues are actually to get the biggest, tastiest sandwiches in the CBD. Bigger than your face and at $10, it is excellent value. Lemon chicken is my favourite.

There are not many sandwich shops which have a dearer place in my heart then Malibu.. and Big Bite is one.

There is nothing to not love about this place.. well except that it's hard to park and it closes too early for my liking.

I've been coming here since my high school days and I think they have changed ownership once but the quality has not changed.

They have delicious fluffy bread and you really can't go wrong with any of the options off the black board. The lemon chicken wafts graciously through the little strand where this mecca of sandwich shops lies. The real champ here is the spread. I dont know what it is.. but it's delicious.

This place is so affordable and size wise this is better then Malibu especially for lunch cause the food coma is not as deep so you may actually be productive after your lunch break.

Possibly the mecca of sandwich shops in Sydney

Value for your buck. $10 for a massive sandwich and delicious fillings. Love the ginger chicken, chilli chicken - generous portions of meat.
Hamza
Massive sandwiches
Ridiculously filling
Possibly a bit too much bread, but I'm not one to complain
Unassuming place, but generally has a line well out the door
Anika Chadha
Sandwich was huge! Never seen a bread slice that large! You definitely get your money's worth. I just wish the bread would be smaller because it sort of takes over after a while. I got the chilli chicken sandwich and it's was actually pretty good. I would go back because it will definitely satisfy you. I will probably try a wrap instead tho because the bread was a bit much. and the Mayo that they put on the sandwiches is delicious!
Lydia
The price is very cheap for such a huge sandwich. Bread is soft, veggies are fresh. Even with the sauce in it the bread doesn't get soggy even when I eat it after a while. Would recommend.
Cheapster
I only thought to try this place because it was one of the highest rated places to eat in Sydney CBD and a decent enough price that I can afford it without crying over the poor state of my wallet. I had high expectations, I'll be honest, despite not being all that impressed with any sandwich I buy, which tends to be overpriced, skimpy, and a little bit dry.

But let me tell you, Big Bite was definitely not a disappointment. With a recent increase to $10.50 per sandwich, one of these bad boys was, as promised by many reviewers, enough to feed two people with small- to mid-sized stomachs, a hearty and satisfying lunch that's fast, easy, and full of flavour. The bread was unexpectedly soft and not gritty or dry as you can get with brown bread, with plenty of meat, vege, and sauce inside. As suggested by the lady, we had a half-and-half chilli and lemon pepper chicken, and while they aren't exactly worlds apart in flavour, was generous in its portions and equally delicious.

I've got to mention their service, though. While not outright unfriendly, they seemed a little indifferent and dismissive. Nonetheless, a great lunch spot or an easy place to get a huge and filling meal.

They have the best roasted veggie sandwich/wrap! I have been there several times and they are consistently fantastic tasting!! Their regular sized sandwich or wrap ($10) is a bit heavy for me, so I get a small wrap which is $7 and that is just perfectly portioned (for me). Best part is: based on my experience everyone that works there is SO efficient and pleasant mannered! They get a LOT of lunchtime traffic but they get the job done!

I tried my first Big Bite sandwich last week - ordered the Monday special oregano roast beef in a wrap and was not disappointed. Even as a wrap, it was a hefty specimen that they nicely sliced in two for me. One half was the perfect size for me. The beef was tender with a good slather of delicious gravy, the fresh salad was plentiful and cut the richness of the meat. They even stuffed some tabbouli in there. Not your average slap-dash convenience sandwich. I now understand the lines snaking out the door; heck, I'll probably be joining that queue again.

Best value lunch in the city. You can't find a better place to have a weekday afternoon food coma for $10. Lemon pepper chicken on brown is all you have to say. Well worth it. Best way to get you through a day at work.
Nick
My favourite sandwich place in the cbd. $10 for a huge sandwich on beautiful Vienna bread with daily specials. My personal favourite is the meat rissoles on Tuesday and the veal on Wednesday. Word of warning be prepared to line up but it is so worth it.
Monica
Gigantic sandwiches for 10 bucks which can definitely be shared between two people! Would've liked some more sauce in my chicken schnitzel sandwich though, it was a bit bland.
Cellamusteen
....it was an incredibly satisfying lunch, and definitely heading back there soon! I also hear they have lovely carrot cakes and I also experienced super friendly service while there (you don't get that all the time!).

Usually when I turn up to an establishment at 12, it’s still quiet. Not Big Bite. You can tell where it is because there’s a long line of people completely ignoring the dancing placard people who are advertising the silent, empty cafes next door! And they suck, because people phone through orders and on the Thursday that I visited, the grilled lamb was already sold out. Big fail. Big Bite Grilled Chilli Chicken The chilli chicken is amazing. It’s grilled, nice juicy pieces of chicken with a slightly hot flavour. It’s set on thick bread with pleasant salads and it sets you back $10. Big Bite Chicken Schnitzel Apparently the chicken schnitzel sandwich is pretty darn good too. It’s sliced up and there seems to be a high breadcrumb to meat ratio, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. At the end of the day, it’s a sandwich and it costs $10. My favourite way to eat a cheap lunch is to go to Woolies Town Hall, buy 50 grams of ham, a couple of slices of Masdam cheese and a tomato (or some semi
All You Do Is Eat
If you work in the city (Big Bite is only open Monday to Friday sadly), I highly recommend you pay Big Bite a visit. It’s cheap, fresh and delicious, and relatively quick depending on the line. Don’t be scared off by it though – it moves pretty fast and it’s worth it. As I mentioned, there aren’t a lot of tables so it’s not the kind of place you go expecting to sit down. Grab a sandwich to eat back at your desk or on a park bench over in Hyde Park if it’s a nice sunny day. And if you have a small appetite, take a friend who also has a small appetite and share a sandwich. Or challenge yourself to finishing an enormous sandwich.
THEJUGERNAUTS
For $9.50, you can pick from their extended sandwich collections. Pick a filling (chili chicken/lemon chicken/roast beeef) say white or brown. And that’s it. The ladies will get to work and quite quickly, you’ll get your monster sandwich. I read simon leong’s blog
he couldn’t finish the thing. I can but it takes a trained eater. Probably good for 2 meals. BBP on pitt is hidden away in the arcade at 250 Pitt street. I can’t emphaise how hidden it is. I must have walked by for years until I caught on. Look into the arcade, there’s always a queue at lunchtime. Try a sandwich from there. They’re not only large on size, they’re also large on flavour. Good stuff

If you do not want to miss out on trying this fabulous grilled sandwich Thursday lunch special, make sure you order via phone in advance! Queues do get very long despite it being tucked away in an unnoticable alley on Pitt Street, and there is limited seating as it is only a small sandwich bar/espresso cafe .

This place is tiny but everything else about it is big. The sandwiches are HUGE. The line is huge. The wait can take up half your lunch break. But is it worth it? I think so. I came here with two friends on Wednesday during peak hour at 1pm. The one who brought us to the place raved about it having the best sandwiches. Ever. I think its better than little vienna and it has the same concept- massive sandwiches around $9-$10 all freshly made. But I think the sandwiches are so good because the place is run by an italian (greek?) family where as Little Vienna is franchised/branched out. Chicken Schnitzel sandwich Big hey? A 185cm big guy couldnt finish this (haha =p) Grilled Chicken Sandwich I ordered this one and it was awesome. I think they use lemon olive oil on the bread and YUMMM it goes perfectly with the grilled chicken. Also theres a tiny bit of tabouli which gives it a fresh herby taste, but not too much to overpower the chi

This very popular sandwich shop was mentioned on page 23 of The Sydney Magazine Special Food Issue Oct 2009 by a reader as one of their favourite take away lunch spots. I tried their favourite Chicken Schnitzel sandwich which was huge and I really couldn'

Best ever. When something is so good , no review can truly describe the truth , you have to try this place to truly appreciate the freshness , so so tasty are the ingredients ,,
Maybe they have a farm out the back where they get all there produce, poultry , lamb etc , CHILLIE CHICKEN is FAB,,,
Always greeted with a smile from the built man on coffee ,,

The Best...No Doubt. The biggest and the best sandwich that has ever passed my lips. I have has the chilli chicken at least 3 times a week for pas two months and im not sick of it. Honestly the best sandwich ever.
Lightstream1010
Huge andwiches. Huge sandwiches, that's for sure. I usually go for the Rare Roasted Fillet of Beef sandwich. I tried the salmon one which is pretty good too. I also tried the chicken varieties and I was disappointed - the flavor/savouriness wasn't there.
Ohad Naim
Great super freshbsandwiches, I eat there at least twice a week. Chilli chicken on brown in my favourite

Big sandwiches is an understatement. Had lunch there a few days ago as this is a regular spot for me whenever I can get to this part of town and they are BIG succulent sandwiches with the nicest and thickest bread you could ask for.

This is my top choice for a lunch time feed in Sydney. Lemon Grilled Chicken is one of my favourites here. Not sure where the reviewer 'Jeremy Singh' was eating, but clearly must have got the place wrong - or he ordered a wrap. Actually the wraps here are as chockablock with ingredients as the sandwiches but obviously the wrap is thinner - that's why it's called a wrap.

The bread is certainly delivered fresh every day because if you get there late in the afternoon you might well miss out. Anyway, top pick! You will love the sandwiches as much as I do, I am sure. Enjoy

What happened to this place?? I use to get massive sandwiches on beautiful freshly cut Vienna bread. Now they serve it on a Turkish roll half the size?? C'mon!!

The best sandwiches. They weren't kidding when they called it the Big Bite! Their sandwiches are huge and very delicious! Unless you're super hungry I suggest splitting a sandwich with a friend!

HEY BBP is on here. OMGOSH. ginormous sandwiches which are all so good and flavoursome and you get it for under $10. I love BBP.

The BEST sandwhiches I've ever had in my LIFE. The SIZE & FLAVOUR of the sandwhiches is phenomenal, reminds me of the man vs food show from the USA with those huge American sandwhiches. They weigh nearly a kilo that's how big they are I fully recommend to anyone looking for a sandwhich experience that will change your perception of the humble SANDWHICH THABKS BIG BITE me and the missus love it. *****

Highlight of my day. I honestly wish I could give everyone who works at Big Bite a hug. The food is generous, tasty and alway satisfying. All the ladies behind the counter are lovely, as is the gentleman who hands you your sandwich before you leave. Its always a pleasure eating here.

Restaurant Big Bite on Pitt. 8.5/10 Their sandwiches are huge and really delicious. I like Thursday special most, its Grilled Lamb. Only 9.5 AUD!! I eat it everytime Im back in Sydney. Only open at lunch i think. long queue so should go there before 12 or after 1:30pm!!

AVOID! Go to Norths instead. We ordered a dozen sandwiches from this place and they gave us 10. When we asked for the extra sandwiches they called us liars and refused to provide what we paid for.

For better sandwiches and FAR better service go to Norths on the Cnr of Bridge and George.

Very Big Bite. Great big huge tasty sandwiches. It does get busy at lunchtime, so either plan ahead and go early or be prepared to wait 10 minutes for your lunch. It's worth the wait.
