As a Zomato Pro member I was entitled to 20% off, a bonus to the freshly made seafood. The Lobster and Oyster Monarch were extremely tasty, the cheesy aftertaste complimented the saltiness of the fresh seafood very well. Crowded as usual since we went on Sunday, but lots of tables were available throughout. Do not recommend sitting outside though as you'd have to fight with the seagulls. Very pleasant experience, would be better to order the food separately rather than as a combo.
Welcoming, kind staff and very professional boss.
Delicious lobsters. Highly recommend Bloody Mary meal !
Take away food was well prepared with some extra cream for the dessert!
The fish market has changed, the quality and the produce of the fish is still top notch. The kingfish and the flounder was the best, its so fresh and it's so tasty!
Sushi donut ($8)
Salmon inari ($3.50)
⭐️ 5/5 ⭐️
🍴When you want a donut but you want to be healthy as well 😛. The #sushidonuts are a sight to behold and taste as good as they look. The purple Japanese rice is of a soft chewy texture and goes really well with the fresh sashimi (we opted for the 3 fish option and was pleasantly surprised to find it packed with salmon chunks inside as well). We also liked the topping of sesame and sesame flavouring. The #salmoninari was also a great balance of sweet and savoury with its soft beancurd skin, rice and sashimi chunks.

The joint was absolutely heaving. It’s a bainmarie type setup but don’t let that fool you it all looks very fresh and I don’t think it sits there long. We opted for a cold platter for a bout $55 which had a good amount of lobster, 4 oysters, prawns, scallops and smoked salmon. Asked for chips but for some unknown reason they said no but whatever, food was good and would have been nice to sit outside if it wasn’t for the filthy disgusting birds absolutely everywhere. If I lived in Sydney I’d be coming here to get the seafood for the week.
Most of the food at the fish markets is bland and old deep fried garbage HOWEVER this seafood cafe has the most delicious fresh seafood, will definitely be coming back here. Reasonably priced as well
Famous for the their sushi donuts ‘doshi’ and sushi tacos, Fish Market Cafe is located inside the Sydney Fish Market.
Looking at the beautiful display, it was hard to decide what to get. We ordered the salmon and avocado red rice donut, tuna taco and a salmon scallop sushi. Everything was to die for.
If you can only pick one item, my recommendation is the sushi donut. Not only are they incredibly pretty and instagrammable, but they taste as good as they look! Every bite is flavourful and balanced. Toppings are generous, fresh and of high quality. The sashimi hidden in the middle layer of the donut was a cool surprise.
The tuna taco was also amazing. I loved the crispy shell, which provided a nice texture and crunch. The avocado and cucumber complimented the fresh sashimi.
Overall I rate Fish Market Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5, and recommend it as must visit in Sydney.
Worth every penny!! Absolutely delicious food with large serving sizes that will keep you full for the entire day! Service was fast even though it was bustling with customers.
I reallly enjoyed the sushi donuts ! So fresh and flavourful and I loved how colourful they all were! I tried the salmon and tuna and they tasted so delicious
Didn’t get the chance to try to sushi bcs the bird ate it😭 the sushi donut is so good!! The rice is nice, the sashimi topping is really fresh.
Sushi donuts are awesome! A bit hard to eat but a great novelty! Lots of flavours to choose from and they taste great!! Lovely little snack while you're doing your first shopping at the market
Darwinist Fish and Chips
Sydney's Fish Market is a vivid demonstration of tension between human and nature. Our gastronomic desires for mouthwatering marine life brought us into direct competition with various seabirds.
I'm sure for those who have dined in the outdoor area of the Fish Market have their just-purchased food "stolen" by seabirds. I still remember I was awestruck of being attacked by a seagull perching on my wrist and had my snapper sashimi snatched within the blink of an eye. If not for my man who literally fed me on a fork with care, and who later scared the seabirds away with a rare howl of his, I won't be able to gobble up the raw swordfish, salmon belly and umi served on its shell.
This experience of enjoying seafood at the Fish Market made me realized how invasive human can be, and how sickly we have conditioned seabirds to feed on French Fries and fried noodles over their oily beaks.
Despite the fleshy and flavorful scampi, tiger and king prawns with their special brine-cooked then immediate-frozen cooking method to preserve their finest sweetness, the sight of witnessing five skinny young ladies devouring three big trays of Australian lobsters still haunts me -- I'm still struggling to put a name on my ambivalence over the Darwinist "survival of the fittest".

My go-to fish market shop everytime i visit fish markets. They have the best fried food and sushi donuts! This time we opted on choosing which cooked seafood we wanted individually, as buying those set platters last time left us with too many left over chips. The cheesey lobster and cheesy scallops are my absolute favourite! They’re bursting with flavour!! The sushi donuts are also very good! The only place i know that sells sushi donuts that are very fresh! Nonetheless, i highly recommend this place when you drop by to visit fish markets! They have a variety of cooked seafood and sushi options to choose from!
If you want the best seafood from the Fish Market. Then you gotta head up this place. Only gets busy during lunch time due to international tourist coming in and on the weekends too. Would RECOMMEND for 2-3 people. If more then add an extra piece to each of the following.
- sushi donut, 2-3 pieces
- 3 for $10 aburi
- calamari rings, small size
- deep fried prawns, 3-5 pieces
- salt and pepper squid
- grilled octopus
- garlic butter lobster tail
I only recommended the fried foods and not raw salmon sashimi or tuna, as they slice it up fresh. It only comes in prepackaged containers. Luckily you can order the sashimi from its neighbouring stores.
I wish I lived in Sydney to visit this place often. They have any kind of seafood you could imagine. Located by the shore, they bring in the freshest seafood a seafood lover could ever ask for. We ordered the seafood basket for $99.00.
Scallops was the best! There were rice inside the scallop and cheese. every bite of it,was melted in your mouth. It was absolute heaven!a must try dish!
Barramundi was exceptional too!perfectly seasoned and cooked. Lots of flavours and juice drip up to the chips. #BHAsFoodDiary
The chilli and garlic lobster was kinda disappointing to me. The meat was dry and hard. Seems like they cooked it a long time ago. However lots of flavours
Overall, good food and good experience for me.. always back for more #BHAsFoodDiary
Sushi donut!
What... that’s crazy, man!
It cost you $8.
Love the king fish meat on top with avocado and salmon in the middle.
It was so trendy.
Fish Market Cafe is amazing! Love it. The atmosphere is great in one of the worlds largest fish markets. Hundreds of delicious seafood choices, so fresh and absolutely delicious. The calamari rings and sushi we had were so tasty and fresh it was brilliant. FMC literally do everything you could think of; salmon, seafood skewers with prawns and scallops, lobster options, even seafood you may of never even heard of! You can have your fish grilled, fried, teriyaki, raw - whatever you like!
TIP: Do come here to try the Doshi!!!! Sushi-Doughnut! Fantastic idea - sushi shaped doughnut. Two of our most loved foods doughnuts and sushi. Do order the calamari or the prawns so tasty and fresh - melts in your mouth!
Sushi donuts was fresh, delicious and visually appealing! $8 for one or 2 for $15. We had the salmon and crab donuts. Highly recommend the salmon as it was refreshing.
Note: cards are not accepted (ATM is right next to the store which includes a surcharge of $2)
Went here for brunch. Place was crowded but this place has a lot of choices that made you feel okay to wait lol and apparently the sushi(s) are good!
Had myself some sushi doughnuts and trust me you wont regret👌🏻
It’s very hard to figure out where to eat as a casual diner at the Fish Market, and particularly when you have to figure out what to recommend for out-of-town family or friends. Both of my last family lunches (my family and a few years ago husband-to-be’s family), we settled on the Fish Market Cafe.
Serving up seafood both fresh and cooked, Fish Market Cafe delivers a truly delicious seafood experience.
They also offer a range of sushis as well as the insta worthy sushi doughnut.
I could not resist the aburi scallops($4 ea or 3 for $10) which were freshly made every few minutes. The torching process ensured the scallops were not overcooked and gave it a nice smokey flavour. There was a richness and extra dimension of flavour from the cheese, although it made the dish a bit oily. I found it surprisingly filling as there was rice underneath. Although not the cheapest meal, it is great value for fresh, high quality seafood. I did also try the sushi doughnut($8 ea or 2 for $15) but I found that the sushi was too cold therefore making the rice hard. Taste wise, it was about the same or less tasty than a normal sushi roll. Great for photos but I think you are better off sticking to the standard sushi.
Located in the Sydney Fish Market, the cafe is crowded, noisy with limited seating which didn't matter as its selling point was the fresh seafood not the ambiance. However the service was quite rude and was a challenge to get a server's attention partially due to its popularity. Despite the lack of service, it's definitely a must visit
when visiting Sydney.
We ordered the seafood platter and were very impressed with the value for money. Great variety of seafood and very fresh and tasty. If you are at the fish markets this place is worth a visit.
With a fishmonger for a father, I used to frequent this cafe. At 5am, nothing went down quite like a coffee and 2 buttered raisin toast or a bacon and egg roll! I can safely say this place holds a special piece of my childhood!
This is something you want to go back again after you try for the first time. The texture of the lobster which satisfy your taste bud. The freshness of the seafood is nothing to compare.
The Sydney Fish Market is the third largest in the world. I’ve never been to any other fish markets before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. You will be seeing posts from my Sydney trip (again) for the next few months! I had saw on Instagram that they had sushi donuts so I was going to get that for sure! I actually went twice because the first time I went, they had sold out of sushi donuts already. The market closes at 4pm and they only had 1 left by 2pm so I had to go back the next day. They are quite busy and there are plenty of tourist there!
A must-go place to visit when you're in Sydney. Did not believe how cheap the seafood were until I sees it with my own eyes. Fresh and Yummy! Definitely recommended!
Yup, sushi again! I am addicted… I just can´t help it, and you find sushi everywhere around here. I think it is just the Ozzie way to go to have a sushi roll for lunch or to get some Japanese treats for diner. Well, I don´t mind to go with the flow at all! Today, I wandered around the Fish Market on Bank Street. After walking past some amazingly big King crab, lobster and abalone I bumped into the Fish Market Cafe. And I saw, whaaat! SUSHI DONUTS! Or ‘DOSHI’ 🙂
Bustling area of the fish market, like everywhere else. Got the grilled seafood platter for two and it was super filling with leftovers to spare. Not a big seafood eater but the grilled octopus was the most flavorful bit in the box. Could do without the scary mannequin by the front though. 😰
Got the grilled seafood box for two. Great value but the fries were a bit soggy and undercooked. The octopus was roaring with flavour. The rest of the box was quite plain (white fish, calamari) but you could truly taste the flavour of the ocean.
Yes! A combo of 2 of my favourites! Sushi & donuts! To be honest expectations wasn't particularly high, as with all fads, it's probably more a novelty & fun rather than high on tastiness. So surprisingly, it actually tasted great. It was big in size, about on par with the bigger Doughnut Time ones, there was a good amount of mixed sashimi & toppings, and underneath was not just one big chunk of rice, there was plenty of sauce & even sauce layered in between the rice. Much better then expected. A little battered, moving in & out of the cabinet, but still looked good. At $8 per each is not cheap, but not too pricey vs a plate (or 2) of sushi or a specialty doughnut.
Sushi donuts! Isn't just for aesthetics, it taste good too!
We ordered the scallop and soft shell crab donut. It was crammed with avocado, sauces, garnishes and of course- full of seafood. It's something that we would definitely come back for!
The Fish Market Cafe is by far the busiest store in the Sydney Fish Market. It is located near the entry closest to the SFM car park, and trust me, you wont be able to miss it due to the huge crowd forming to buy some of their grilled and baked seafood. However, on this occasion I went to the SFM with one goal in mind: to try their 'Doshi' or sushi donut. Luckily there was no line to buy the sushi donut and I was able to grab two quickly before setting off to the park because there were no seats/tables available during the Sunday afternoon.
It is rather expensive as it is 1 for $8 or 2 for $15 but it was an experience I enjoyed. I purchased two doshis, one with scallops and one with an assortment of raw fish including tuna, salmon and kingfish. The scallop sushi donut was divine, the scallop was tender and melted in my mouth while the rice was soft and fluffy. It had just the right amount of sauce and spice that I did not need any soy sauce and the caviar and sesame seeds gave it the needed texture to avoid the doshi feeling like mush.
The fish sushi donut was the same and you could taste how fresh it was because there was no fishy smell or aftertaste. The addition of the caviar was perfect to give the donut more texture, pop and saltiness to the unseasoned fish. In the middle of these two sushi donuts were pieces of raw salmon and seasoned avocado paste that gave it the creaminess that works so well with seafood.
Overall, I would definitely come here again just for the sushi donut! My recommendation is the scallop sushi donut and just in general, get one with a moderate amount of sauce.
I have lost count how many times I have braved the crowds in the Sydney fish market to get my hands on the freshest and best quality seafood. Today, however, I was on a mission to discover Sydney’s latest food innovation – Sushi Donuts at the Fish Market Café. Fish Market Café has been a regular outlet inside the market for many years serving both fresh and cooked seafood to locals and tourists. It is on the left hand side as you enter the indoor market. At the right end of the counter, freshly shucked oysters are sold by the dozen or half dozen, prawns and lobster tails are boiled and served with wasabi and soy or seafood cocktail sauce.
Recently famous for their sushi donut
Bought mine for $8 (2 pcs for $15)
Tastewise? Just normal sushi but with unique donut shape. For me its kinda overpriced. Eventhough the size is quite big and quite filling. The salmon was fresh and the rice was enjoyable as well. Topped with mayo sauce
The Sydney fish market is literally my happy place. There is nothing more magical than fresh fish, sashimi in particular. Here you can feast your eyes on every possible type of seafood. I go get all my raw seafood and then I hit this place for all my grilled needs. Salmon for my partner who won't eat anything I cooked and delicious salt and pepper calamari. Nothing better. Pretty much none of these places take card so be prepared
Seeing the weather starting to cool gave us a good excuse on a Sunday to get out of the house.
We decided to head off to the Sydney Fish Market to enjoy some fresh seafood on a summer day. Walking through the entrance of the markets, you are instantly welcomed by the bright lights of the signs and the bustle of the hundreds if not thousands of people crowding around the stores.
We instantly went for the cooked seafood and decided on the Fish Market Cafe. We ordered some Barramundi Fillets coated in chilli and herbs, Tasmanian Scallops with melted cheese and rice, Lobster Mornay, and a garden salad with dressing.
The Barramundi Fillets were beautifully seasoned. Coated in herbs and chilli and served on a bed of garden salad (at an additional cost, regularly served with rice or chips), this was definitely for me. The Tasmanian Scallops were also very delicious. The scallop combined with the cheese and the rice was very filling and made more of a portion side than the scallop on its own. The Lobster Mornay on the other hand was very tough and try. We felt as if it had been sitting a while and did not enjoy it after a mouthful or so.
I personally would recommend the Fish Market Cafe but would encourage others to look at their share platters as these have many more options for the price. Also remember to take money with you as this location of the Fish Markets is cash only.
They specialise in fried or grilled seafood. Which is why I had to pop in and grab a meal.
On order: fried salt and pepper barramundi on steamed rice, seaweed salad, aburi scallops, fried salt and pepper tiger prawns. Plus a drink and a sauce.
The biggest downside was the sauce. It was packet garlic aioli which was just bland. Though otherwise the food was awesome. The barra came in piping hot and crispy. I ate the fins too since the batter made it crispy. This was similar with the tiger prawns. I opened the head and there was plenty of prawny juice. The meat was nice too. Aburi scallops aka sushi scallops with melted cheese was also not bad.
It's so good, I'll be back here tomorrow.
Old faithful for lobster mornay. Been going to the fish markets for years and this stall is one of the cheapest and the best. Fish Markets is still touristy but locals go for the food! This place is setup like a takeaway shop, they pump out the orders. There’s not many places to sit outside but there’s a park across the road anyway.
Home of Australia's finest seafood retailers it's no wonder people from all over Sydney will flock here each Christmas for the best catches of the day. But you dont have to wait until then, the GRILLED PLATTER for 2 works out a little over 20 bucks per person and it's one epic feed of Barbecued - baby octopus & prawn skewers, Grilled - gem fish, scallops & calamari and Fresh Oysters & Prawns! There are no words to describe the freshness in this platter of divine sea creatures literally served and cooked straight out of the ocean! Amazing and great value! If only they took bookings, it was absolute torture with my platter in hand walking around the seating areas outside for a table - had to dive in for one of those skewers during the wait - but it worked out in the end!!!
Have been here several times and it's always bustling. Unlike most of the other fish market stalls, they specialize in grilled and fried seafood. Thanks to being in a fish market, the range and quality is great. They have plenty of different packages you may take advantage of to buy a collection of your favourite seafood choices. I recommend the grilled fish and rock lobster.

Update 6/5/17
Been here on numerous occasion in the interim, please try their donut sushi!
Some places just get things right, fish market cafe is one of them. Ok, some of their baked/grilled fish can be a little dry/overdone but stick with any of the deep/pan fried offerings, including the bbq'ed ones, you'll not go wrong.
We always get their salt/pepper king prawns, bbq octupus, fried calamari, lobster tails 😁 nyum. They recently do sushi/sashimi counter but why would we when fresh sashimi is available from most of the neighbouring joints (which 'specialize' in all kinds of fresh seafood).
Prices a little steep, then again which shop isn't @the fish market 😏?
The fish markets is a quintessential Sydney eating experience and the FM Cafe has the pick of the platters. So if you're eating with family or a group, one of the seafood or grilled seafood platters is a great option. You get far too many chips with it but enough seafood to fill everyone. We got the seafood platter for four, which includes oysters Mornay and Kilpatrick, prawns, scallops, calamari, baby octopus, seafood sticks, fish and chips. They also do a huge range of freshly cooked dishes - trays of scallops, lobster Thermidor, sushi, crab, grilled whole fish. It's a veritable cornucopia of seafood, which makes it such an indulgent dining experience. Take your food and eat it outside by the water though, rather than in the noisy, bustling chaos of the market itself. However, this often means having to stake out a table first as the seating gets packed out. The rest of the market is the same - brimming with fish shops serving up freshly-cooked food on the side. And everywhere the evocative spoils of the sea. You can't lose.

Fish Market Cafe offers very good quality seafood dishes at reasonable prices. I ordered the seafood platter for two which came with lots of fried goodies such as calamari, chips, fish cocktails, prawn, and oysters. Although, you have to pay extra for sauce which sucks!
The best sushi I've ever had !!! So fresh and tasty ! Just sooo perfect !! You necan d to go there ! The atmosphere is perfect ! Soooo coooool
Tourist must-visit places. A place to eat anykind of seafood from the raw to the cooked one (grill and fry), from a western to a japanese style of seafood. Eating on the outdoor, sit on the harbour and enjoy the view!
The Sydney fish markets are a must-do every time I am in town. The seafood is so fresh and delicious. The market itself is a buzz of activity but you can take the time to relax outside and enjoy eating the wide range of sea food on offer
I love Sydney fish market...so many choices and the seafood is so fresh!!!😍 Sashimi, lobsters, fish & chips, scallops..the variety is endless. I have such a good time everytime I visit.
The crowds love the fish markets for their fresh produce and tasty food. I am a regular (when I have built up enough patience to fight the crowds) and often stop by the Fish Market Cafe for some salt and pepper calamari with chips (above, $16ish). The calamari is just perfectly crumbed. I like it lightly crumbed so you can taste the calamari. The chips were perfectly crunchy.
If you happen to crave for seafood brunch in Sydney, you can visit the Fishmarket for the freshest seafood. Anything you can think of from Lobster, abalone, clam, prawn, squid, fish n chips even sashimi salmon. Everything is just fresh like it's just being catch from the sea. My best recommendation is wake up lazyly at around 9 or 10, go there & order the platers (the have several options according to your budget & appetitebof eating. This one place is a "Must Go" if you are coming to Sydney during holiday.
We're always orders our dishes at fish market cafe even there're so many choices, we love the seafood platter, fresh seafood, prawns, abalones, oysters, also calamary chips. All still same have a good taste everytime we come back here.
The fish markets is always hectic, full of tourists and hungry seafood lovers. You must go very early or be a very patient person. After another recent visit, I opted for some salt and pepper calamari with chips (It was about $16). The calamari was heavenly! It was so very fresh but super tasty with crunch bits of salt and pepper. The crunch was sporadic so it did not over power the natural flavours of the calamari. My favourite place for sashimi is at Peter's Fish market. I order my favourites including some tuna, king fish and salmon sashimi. Sashimi can be a bit pricey but when it's from Peter's it taste amazing and so fresh. The small portion of sashimi below cost $10. I love it! I absolutely love the fish markets. I've been to Fish Market Cafe and Peter's several times.
Seafood haven right here with stunning views! The most important point of all to start off with - you want to get here early . Not only are there less crowds in the morning, you get to choose the freshest noms first, pick a table outside with minimal sea gull poop (they're everywhere I tell you), and wait for that afternoon sunshine to kick in while you're down with your food, all set up nicely. Now watch everyone else rush by - hehe. Claudio's Seafood located in the parking lot is known to be one of the most popular stores at the Fish market; which is nice, you can pop straight in after parking your ride. Inside, it's covered in all sorts of seafood everywhere, anything you want from the ocean you will be able to find. Head on inside to the Market and on the left are the popular hot food stores. Think deep fried fish & chips, onion rings, calamari rings, grilled cheese lobsters, etc. Grab the Seafood platter for 2 if you like the sound of the above! 'Real' seafood eaters will tell you

Lobster Platter; ½ lobster, bbq baby octopus, calamari rings, oysters mornay and kilpatrick, fresh king prawns for 2. All platters served with chips and rice $68.50
Variety of seafoods are plenty.
Some taste good, some taste ordinary. If you are not picky, try the grilled platers.
