Ramen with wagyu portion was very generous and meat was cooked well. Soup was delicious and toppings were refreshingly varied. It was quite for a weekday lunch so plenty of seating available.
I had a lunch with my friend today . Have ordered sashimi combination and pork Ramen . It was so delirious . Also nice Jazz music made my lunch even more enjoyable
I visited here with my friend and ordered the soft shell crab set, some sushi and ramen. All were pretty good and the atmosphere was very friendly. Would definitely come here again!
This place is really quaint and cosy, perfect to catch up with friends over lunch.
Portions are generous and the food is tasty. Would recommend the salmon sashimi don ($15) which had nice thick cuts of salmon and I was quite happy with the Katsu don ($13) as well.
Menu on Zomato is missing a page for the Donburi section.
The prices here are very reasonable and you’ll leave feeling full without blowing a hole in your wallet.
Small cozy place in the heart of city. I had a teriyaki chicken bento box for $18 with a generous portion, taste and flavour is alright, i would say (3.75/5).
Came here for dinner after walking for ages to find something easy as I was by myself. Yummy food, teriyaki salmon was delicious. I had the Aki big bento - was definitely big and I was left full and happy!
Visiting with hubby from Perth, we decided to stop here for our first night out in Sydney, im so glad we did!
My fave meal of all time is Katsu Chicken bento's wherever I go, its what I order if available. This one did not disappoint. It was $21, and came with a massive serving of rice, the katsu chicken which was lovely crispy and had a lovely sweety/salty katsu sauce, a gyoza dumpling, 2 deep fried somethings that were tasty, a side salad with lemon dressing, 2 pieces of salmon sashimi and also a cup of miso soup. Excellent value! It was all very tasty, I cant really think of any negatives to be honest!
The service was quick, and we were waiting no more than 15 minutes for the food. Would eat here again if I was ever in the Sydney area, might even make a sneaky visit before heading back to Perth!
Quick and friendly service, got their Tempura udon for $15 and it was decently sized with very well fried tempura (2 sweet potatoes, an eggplant and a prawn - yum!) Udon wasn't too soft either and the soup was nice and flavoursome. Will be back for future lunches 👌🏼😋
the food was ok, i got the pork Katsu set and the pork was very dry and flavourless and even with the sauce I couldn't taste much. The miso soup tasted watered down and flavourless as well. The salad on the side was nice and went well with the creamy sauce, but my favourite part of the meal was the rice -it was soft and almost creamy tasting. The store itself was very cute, it wasn't that busy so it had a relaxed atmosphere and the lady at the counter was very nice
Sakura is so well priced for the serving sizes. I had the sashimi tuna and avocado salad. It had at least half an avocado and so many different elements to it including seaweed salad, crab, caviar and a delicious dressing. It was large and filling and the ingredients all tasted really fresh.
The edemame was again a big serving size and seasoned perfectly. The miso was yummy except it wasn't hot which was a little let down. My friend's sushi looked delicious and they were really big pieces.
The staff were friendly so it was all in all a really good experience.
I tried the spicy chicken bento and it was pretty delicious. the price could be a lil less. Quality and service was very good. will come back for more.
Haha its definately worth to take a 2nd glimpse at a place :)!! Ive walked past this place countless times and only noticed that it was a small shop front and saw that it had a sqaushy U shaped wooden table at the front window :)!
I decided to stop this time to check out the menu, food looked good and the place looked empty, as soon as i walked in i saw they had a whole bunch of tables at the back of the restaurant with a cool high ceiling with the deco old school art on the roof :D.
When it comes to Asian places I'm a quick thinker on what to get, don't mind having a quick browse and jist ordering anything that says chicken or soup lol!!
I got the Stamina Don, Miso & Chicken Kurange & my friend got a plain Don, Miso & Tempura battered king prawn, with some Green Tea to Share :D
The food came out super quick .. less than 5 mins :D, is fantastic for me when I'm Starving :D!! Stamina Don was like a combo of meats accompanied by thick noodle :), both Dons were warm and fresh tasting, went down very nice :)!!
(Sprinkled a bit to much chilli flakes that they served with the Dons so i lost my voice for a few mins after gulping down a bit to much of it haha).
Miso was served cold ... only ever had Miso really warm.. still tasted nice though. Chicken tasted nice as did the tempura aswell :D!!
Have had better Japanese than this place but was nice to have finally come in & tasted their food though :D!!
Small and nice place for lunch. Generous portion. Service is not bad. Reasonable price.
My tuna salad tasted nice but the portion of the tuna is a bit small. My friend's chicken curry was nice too but the curry is a little bit watery. I prefer the really thick, creamy and flavoursome Japanses curry.
One thing really annoyed me was the waitress persisted to interrupt our prayer. I guess it may not be a common sense to not interrupt when others are praying. So I won't recommend this place to spiritual persons.
Went here to celebrate a friend's belated birthday on a Friday night tonight and stumbled upon this place around 7pm. Went as a group of four after not being able to find a seat, we fortunately found 4 seats here. Stepped inside, loved the atmosphere, as it was really small and cozy, and not too loud. Waiter seemed new and was not the most confident at communicating.
Ordered the tempura don ($14), and friends had cold don dishes ranging around $15 too. Funny story, my 3 friends felt the Japanese food was fine, but nothing outstanding. My dish took a long time to serve, since the waiter incorrectly put my order, and served a 'udon' to me instead.
Was not too fussed however, since it's a Friday night, but the new waiter definitely needs to improve ASAP. Would recommend to try for a laidback Friday night, somewhere quiet.
Nice fresh sushi and Japanese food. Great service and attentive staff. Had grilled salmon nigiri, edamame an chicken teriyaki sushi. One of my chicken teriyaki sushi pieces had no chicken in it though which was weird.. And atmosphere a little drab I think.. But food was really nice.
Food was quite lovely. Good for a quick bite in the city. Nothing absolutely fantastic but still quite lovely to eat. I had the spicy sashimi salad. Sashimi was fresh and the fish roe was plenty. Not very spicy at all. Also had the salmon unagi roll. Tender, warm and juicy. The karaage chicken was also very juicy and tender. For a very low key evening, this is good!
Nice little Japanese restaurant in the center, great location with delicious rolls. We ordered wafu steak set, grilles sushi set which are nice in presentation also California roll and tempura prawn roll. Small in portion but good in taste.
Good food, friendly staff, nice ambient.
I had a don I think, you can never go wrong with a don and some salads and some warm sake or green tea.
Cute little place with great food and a cosy Japanese style interior.
Friendly staff and super fast food service. I would recommend and be back again
5/5
If you’re out and about in Sydney CBD and craving some Japanese food, then Sakura Japanese Kitchen is the place to go. Their sushi rolls are around $6 – $8 and their lunch sets ranges from $10 – $15. Its small and cosy seating area gives it a very homely atmosphere which is great to escape the busy bustling city outside!
Yes, the lunch set would cost you no more than $15 (excluding drinks). The lunch set comes with the main dish, a bowl of rice and miso soup. After a long day, my friend and I was really excited for a great value lunch set to restore some energy for the activities planned for the rest of the day. My friend ordered the Spicy Beef lunch set, and I the Soft Shell Crab served with Japanese mayo.
I reckon Sakura is well worth a visit for their value-for-money dinner sets (an average of $14 per set), generous portions and fresh food, but that is only if you don’t mind the cramped space.
They say that good things come in small packages, and this definitely applies to the cute little Japanese restaurant, Sakura. The BFF and I end up at Sakura as our 'plan B' dinner. I'd actually convinced him to come to the Malaysian Kitchen with me that was on in the city last week. Tales of queues a hundred miles long and waits of over an hour had me worried that my dream of eating at the Malaysian Kitchen would be just that…a dream. I did a quick walk by on Thursday night and the queue was already well over 200 meters long and the event wasn't even open yet. Yikes. Hmmm…I knew there was NO WAY that the BFF (or myself either, if I'm totally honest) was going to line up to eat dinner in a little laneway, on a stinking hot day, with 80 other people, no mater how "cool" I thought it would be. So plan B is put in to action and the BFF marches me down Pitt Street towards Thainatown...or is it Koreatown? Regardless, before we hit the stretch of Thai or Korean restaurants that occupy th

Best value-for-money Japanese restaurant in the Sydney CBD.
Great food, but some cool air would be nice. Went to lunch today after a bit of hiatus from Sakura. Discovered the menu had changed, which threw me for a moment. Tried one of the new bento boxes - these are sooooo worth the money. My friends practically had to roll me out of the restaurant!
I used to go for the Teriyaki Tofu/Veggie Don, but this has disappeared from the menu. You can get a Teriyaki Veggie meal, but I went the Teriyaki Tofu Bento Box Option A. Totally worth it, and will get it again... but when I'm really hungry.
I'd only recommend Option B (extra sushi rolls added) if you've a big tummy to begin with, or are ridonkulously hungry.
The quality seems to have improved, or I've been to less quality places in the meantime. I'm not sure. But the food was fantabulous.
My only "urgh" factor was the complete lack of air flow in the joint. We were there early (11.45 for 12pm lunch) and yet by the time we left I was literally dripping in sweat. Either invest in air-con, or at least some fans... please?!
Really enjoyed our food, and very reasonably priced. Would recommend for those looking for a quick, tasty meal.
Great food, very reasonable prices. Helpful and respectful staff. And in the CBD. Try it out!
Decor isnt high class but does that matter?
PS. More seats at the back if front is crowded.
Good food but surprised they charge for soy sauce!
Katsu Curry. I'm a huge katsu curry fan and this is a good one! Good miso and sushi. Very generous servings of everything.
My favorite Japanese in Sydney! I go here every week. I would highly recommend the tofu veggie don for vegetarians. The soft shell crab is also wonderful!
Sakura. A cheap and cheerful little place, convenient for a quick lunch or late night feed
Best Japanese in CBD. This is the quickest, cheapest and best Japanese in the CBD. Perfect for a work lunch.
Just love it! My favorite is salmon avocado roll ...actually there's not a single menu I don't like :) n it's cheap! What's not to love?
Lunch time gyoza and terriaki chicken, under $15, yummo!!!
This restaurant is simply amazing.
At the entrance the ambience doesn’t look great due to the front setting of the restaurant but once you enter everything changes quite quickly. Customer service is top notch, food is excellent, prices are reasonable and quantity is extremely good. Very good value for money overall.
I just love their Ramen and Bento box and they are good for both dine in and take always.
Even if you get food for takeaways the packing is extremely good and they pack everything separately and use cling wrap very well to ensure you can safely take the food home and enjoy.
Not the most authentic Japanese restaurant you can get in Sydney. But good nonetheless.
The ramens are huge and served in an open bowl, which I've not seen elsewhere. It wasn't bad, but not amongst the better ones I've had. The sashimi was nice and fresh but a bit pricey for the ambience.
Had the spicy pork ramen and tempura udon. Flavours were well balanced, however, wasn’t really “spicy”. Bowls were huge, however serving size was standard which we didn’t mind as we still got full from it. Staff were very friendly and polite. Food came out relatively quickly also. Very clean and cozy restaurant.
Really enjoyed dining here. The Ramen, Katsu Curry and beef were amazing. The service was also great.
I love their sushi roll very much, but I forgot to take a picture. But anyway, it's a good place to enjoy Japanese food and ramen.
Excellent Japanese restaurant. Good service, very reasonably priced and the food is beautifully presented. Small venue so arrive early or book.
