Best gelato ever! They will always release new special flavors! None of them will go wrong! Definitely have one when you pass it by!
Tried all their specials but I guess I'm not an experimental kind of girl. Ended up with mint Choco chip but it was really really good, with huge chocolate chip chunks!! Love Gelato Messina!
The concept of the store quite nice !! They have a lootttt of variants, for sure you will have your fav taste. Theres also special variants and lots of them. I tried lemon and passionfruit. It was perfect with the weather also. Will be back there to try another
Great food!! Amazing quality!! So much variety! The cake pictured below was amazing and I constantly crave it! Such exotic cake flavours and combinations!

Very reliable dessert spot and there's always so many flavours to choose from. I usually get pistachio prailine but if there's an interesting flavour I'd try that too.
Delicious!! Messina has a great range of flavours & I love that they have vegan options that consist of more than just sorbet. More on the pricey side, but you definitely get what you pay for
Pistachio praline gelato is unbeatable! Salty and sweet no complaints at all. Staff were friendly and we were served very quickly for a Friday night
I'm not a huge fan of gelato but whenever we are in the area, we make a point of visiting Messina. It's always busy but the wait is never too long. It's just a shame that seating is limited and we have to stand up outside the shop, eating our gelato. I love the fact that there are always new flavours. I find that the dairy free fruit sorbets can be hit and miss and can be a bit too sour at times. My favourites tend to be the combinations that contain chocolate or coconut or nuts. What I like best about Messina is that they use quality ingredients and the gelato doesn't taste artificial.
The best gelato ever had. Tried tiramisu... The texture and the taste was amazing and a must try thing in Sydney. It has some amazing flavours and the staff was friendly also.
Love this little messina shop in Surry Hills! They have very limited seating and the shop is always filled with people. Absolutely love messina gelato as they always come up with amazing flavours for a decent price. Service is friendly too!
Wherever you are in Sydney, Messina never fails to please. The variety of gelato with creative flavours always delight your senses. Try everything except for the mint chocolate—it tasted too much like toothpaste.
Who can resist the temptation to gelato. So when I passed by, I just walked inside without a second. Messina shop is always crowded, we all gelato lovers.Aha~
This time I tried one of the Messina Special flavours----CRUNCHUS MAXIMUS. I love crunchy food. The gelato is sweet but not too sweet. Like the rich peanut butter,it's really a match with the caramel white chocolate. But the peanut was not crunchy which is a little pity. But it won't affect my good mood to this gelato.
Will definitely buy another gelato when I pass by a Messina shop next time.
Can’t go wrong with all classic & gourmet flavour from the display fridge.
You can choose and even can ask for tiny bit of sample before you purchase.
Chocolate was good, dark and rich.
My niece have this raspberry, sort of sweet and tangy at the same time.
Salted caramel is always my favorite, along with pistachio.
The Pandan Coconut (4/5): is my personal favourite! It tastes like a creamy Asian dessert and it's not overly sweet at all.
I also really like the White Choc Macadamia. I'm a sucker for ice cream that has bits and pieces throughout!
Messina also has exciting weekly specials, my favourite one I've tried so far is possibly the Halo Halo - bring it back please! Halo halo is a multi tiered Filopino dessert with strong taro flavours with so many different textures it's just bursting full of flavour, creaminess and a bit of crunch.
Although I think Messina is great, my favourite is still Anita Gelato or Cow and Moon.
As always, amazing flavours - whether they’re the original ones or the special ones - they never disappoint! Prices are super good compared to other gelato places!!

Visited Gelato Messina Surry Hills for dessert as our restaurant we dined at did not have dessert.
I've been to a few Gelato establishments however never visited Messina. I can tell you it was a great experience.
We had sorbet and there we so many different flavors and choices to choose from. The single scoop portions were a good portion.
The Gelato was absolutely delicious. Well made!
I don't know how much it cost as my wife paid :-) but been told the value is worth the quality.
Only thing I hope this restaurant had was some seating. It would have been great to have a few tables and chairs inside so you can at least have your dessert in a nice plate and enjoy it among your family friends. Though the park is across the road...
I found Gelato Messina can be a hit or miss sometimes. Had the pistachio flavour this time and it’s a bit disappointed with the flavour. Can’t really taste the pistachio and too sweet as well.
I also think the lighting inside this outlet is a little bit too dark.
NEVER DISAPPOINTS... NEVER mind the lines... and PLEASE MESSINA, MAKE ROBERT BROWNIE JNR A PERMANENT FLAVOUR!!! But seriously, no matter the flavour, Messina is always worth the trip!
I had a two scoop waffle cone with apple pie as my first flavor and salted caramel coffee with whipped cream as the second. Delicious! The combo was fantastic, with lovely chunks of apple in the apple pie flavor and slightly savoury salted caramel chunks in the second. The gelato was creamy, and the cone crispy. Scoops should have been bigger though.
Messina never disappoints. My first night living in Sydney I wanted to something comforting from home, and noticed Messina right around the corner. Best thing for my heart, worst thing for my waist/wallet. But when the ice cream is that delicious, the good outweigh the bad every time. Loved the game of thrones themed flavours, the Khaleesi was my favourite!
Ummm would never be able to pass up Game of Thrones themed ice cream!! This particular one was called 'Arya' and as usual, Messina did not disappoint. Not too sweet, the banana flavour wasn't overpowering and the brownie bits were delicious 😋 Always a good splurge at Messina ✌🏻
Very small and crowded place but other than that, ice-cream is great! I only get the vegan ones so the coconut and almond sorbet is my favourite! Amazing full pieces of almonds.
This time, I had Gelato which was just filled up so the staff found it difficult to scoop out. I originally asked for the cone so she gave me a cup with a cone on top, no complaints! Haha
There's a reason why there are always crowds outside Messina and we can easily say it's one of our favourite ice-cream/gelato stores in Sydney. We've come to Messina multiple times and can happily say you can't go wrong with any of their flavours! Our personal favourites are the Coconut Roasted Almond Sorbet and Mango Sorbet.
Who can walk past Messina without buying a cone or a cup? The ice cream at Messina is just so nice and My favourite flavours are salted caramel and pistachio. However, I notice that the service and ice cream at newer outlets are not as good as the one at Surry hills. I don't know why.
Offers some of the best gelat/ice cream in sydney.
Weekly flavour board and classic all year menu.
Personal favourites are the pandas coconut and salted caramel. Yum!
Love the gelatos in Messina.
The line is long which would take some time but the free tasting is a plus point as you can get to try before you buy.
Satisfying everytime. There is always a queue here and I can tell why. The flavours are ever changing and so innovative which is awesome and the flavours of the week are always so exciting and extra quirky. They move the line pretty quick as well. I went for the Black Forrest Bae and Mint To Be this time. The Mint To Be was to die for. Massive chunks of chocolate biscuit and streams of gooey chocolate sauce... YUM. The only little down fall is the music is quite loud so not really a place that you would sit and eat at, but that doesn't phase me!
OMG i love my mandarin flavour gelato sooo... can't wait for messina to bring it back! hehe
funky place (not to hang out for too long though... the music is extremely loud) but the flavours of the week, is, totally the bomb. i love the choices. the experiments that messina makes, using random ingredients like chips and pork crackles... and the best past is, every week is different!
it's like a willy wonka chocolate factory in surry hills hehe
my fave has got to be the week of Game of Throne's flavours. expect to see hodor + lady margery... yum!

Epically popular and certainly for a reason. There is often a queue which gives you time to think about which flavors you are going to choose. The sorbets are nice and refreshing however I always go for the ice cream options -usually chocolate. The salted caramel, tiramisu, white chocolate hazelnut and chocolate fondant are all addictive! The pear and rhubarb ice cream is another good choice. But if you really can't decide go for the flavor of the week!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream!!! There's no way we can come to Surry Hills and not stop by Messina. The selections seem endless with so many flavours I want to try or have. The specials are always a go to, but their classics are always delicious. I always make sure to get the pandan, coconut flavour! Whether it's on a cone or a cup, you'll be enjoying every bite.
Let's go back to where it all started - shop no. 1. Cold winter night raining and umbrella in hand my compadre and I decide that we must have one of the supposedly best ice-creams that everyone's talking about! And so we find ourselves in a queue and after a 10 min wait we knew it was something special in here. We tried one flavour too many till we decide to embrace the "flavour of the day". Whoever thought that gelatos are a poor man's ice-cream needs to visit Messina! It's ice-creams are so rich and creamy that they would give anyone a run for their money!

Best way to cool down in the heat is to brave the queue and get some Messina in your belly. It is totally worth the wait, as they always have fun and interesting flavours. ✌@foodiesguidetosydney
One of the best gelato in Sydney. Their flavor changes all the time and their creativity is endless. There was this special limited edition flavor that I love called the Pina Colada. Amazing. Their lightness and perfect texture always made me crave for more. Messina is a gelato to remember. Many people compare which is better Messina or Anita. I personally love them both and find Anita to be more milky and creamy while Messina more experimental in flavor and lighter in texture.
Stopped by the gelato Mecca for a quick gelato. Well I'm on a diet but my husband bought one so I got a few spoonfuls. Got the PBH sandwich flavour - anyhow as usual no words except perfection. I don't think there is anything like this gelato in the world - I'm so happy we have it in Sydney ☺️
I love ice cream!! And facing so many choices, I finally decided to try the honey honey 2! It is very yummy, a little bit sweat, but this is exactly what an ice cream is! In a nutshell, it gives me surprise and is worthy trying!
So after our last trip to Messina in Melbourne, I vowed to try it out again in Sydney. Here I go.. This time I played smarter and chose one of their special weekly flavour - Jon Snow! It is white chocolate ice cream mixed with generous amount of crushed peanut caramel wafer and chocolate fudge. It's a great selection and I enjoyed it very much. Great gelato in a nice neighourhood.
M E S S I N A. YES - is my answer every time. you gotta ask my sisters how much i love gelato aka messina. i wish someone will open one soon in Jakarta. yay
p.s all flavors wont dissapoint
Cream... in my pants. I mean cup. Cup! GM can do no wrong (unless they sell out of a flavor I want and then its personal 😅) but they're always bringing a high standard of gelato to the counter and Surry Hills is no different 👌
Messina is the classic gourmet ice cream place that's super trendy and everyone knows about so I guess there's not much more about it I can say haha. The ice cream is great, although sadly a bit overhyped and not amazing, which is disappointing considering the out-of-this-world rep this place has. Why? Every time I come here the ice cream seems to be not as cold as it should be and prone to melting quite fast. Maybe I just don't appreciate the gourmet home made texture of it though haha. Having said that, they have delicious flavours you really won't find anywhere else. My favourite(s) at the moment: Khaleesi (followed by Salted Caramel). It's yogurt and mango with Dulce de Leche, if I remember correctly - quite rich without giving you that gross feeling in your mouth after you've had too much Vanille ice cream. Would definitely come back for that.
Talking about the building itself, it's adorable. Always dark, purposefully, and cozy. Downside: there's very very little sitting room, especially if you're there at night. Also, there will always be a line here at night, especially on a weekend, so try go right before the rush (we went 8pm Saturday night and managed to miss the like by 5 minutes haha). You don't want to be in that line - the first time we came here, we waited 20 minutes in the freezing cold.
If you're in Surry and don't mind a bit of a wait, come here and give the ice cream a try, if just to say that you have.
We love messina and more often than not stop in for gelato after a meal in Surry Hills. We can generally make room for messina. We even make the odd impromptu visit to the Rosebery store when we have a craving, as it is easier to find a park and generally has smaller queues.
We love that there are always a bunch of new interesting flavours to try each week. There are also a number of staples that we frequently eat that include salted caeamel white choc, tiramisu, bounty, dulche de leche. I could go all day, basically they are all good. No need to sell this place it sells itself. The only issues I have; they are cash only and at times the long queues, but it is usually worth the wait.
Friendly service and offering tastings if needed. I decided to have Banana Foster, Coconut & Lychee, and Sticken To My Date Gelatos (one of the specials of the day which was a choice of 5). Tasted delicious. Can taste all the flavours of each one. The gelato was nice and creamy.
Narrow, tight space reminiscent of a back alley in northern Sicily or Florence, funky tunes keep the mood vibrant. One cramped bench seat sets the scene for "take it outside".
Two long display freezers packed with old favourites and some creative creations, including poached figs in marsala, and Italian nougat. Juxtapositions of flavours abound - burnt butter & sage, salted coconut and mango, salted caramel & white chocolate. They work. Not overly sweet, but amazingly smooth - only served at -9.5deg, not -18deg, so texture is creamy and approachable. Downside is they're a little too easy to partake at this temperature, so the hedonistic joys are short lived.
We'll be back.
Queues out the door, packed with Italian families leering at exotic flavours. "Better than at home" they said.
Happy Mother's Day!
Messina has been a favourite of mine for a long time. I came past tonight after having dinner, and I'm generally back whenever I'm in the area. Tonight I had one scoop of the Cremino and one scoop of Milk Chocolate & Peanut Fudge. Both were deliciously sweet and indulgent.
Gelato Messina is the perfect representation in Sydney of what the Made in Italy is: high quality raw materials, passion foor food, professional and passionate people working behind the scene and in the front of house. I am Italian, gelato lover and absolutely demanding about it, I have to say from the bottom of my heart that this place can absolutely beat few ice cream places in my country and will defenetly be an extremely successful reality in the mother land of gelato. Keep it up guys and never ever loose your genuine heart. For those who never tried this place, there are no words to explain what you guys are missing, this is an institution in Sydney and all over Australia, must try this out.
Does one even need to write a review about Messina? Does anyone actually come here to check their rating? If you still need to check then you're seriously missing out- just hurry up and try it!
I don't eat ice cream often, but once in a while I do try good ice cream. Gelato Messina was highly recommended by a lot of people. There were too many flavours to choose! I didn't know which ones to choose. After tried so many flavours I decided to go with one of the specials: Two Stroke (white chocolate, hazelnut, coffee with candied hazelnut). Hubby's picked Pandan & Coconut coz he wanted something refreshing. Yes they were nice gelatos and we enjoyed them even after we had a big meal.
Got given tub of messina last night and got home with it and it's always a delicious good time. Mystery flavours both treated real good! Mmmm
Gelato Messina doesn't need any reviews! Its just the best that's out there. I you want the best ice-cream in town, its definitely Messina!!!
Gelato Messina is definitely one of my favourite gelato / ice cream. This outlet in Surry Hills is always busy, and particularly on a hot Saturday afternoon. The staff were great despite the crowd & the constant request for tasting. This time I had one of the specials, Cremino, which was salted caramel with fudge & biscuit, and my favourite sorbet flavour Blood Orange. All I can say is... "Yum!".
I can't fault it. Every flavour is so real, balanced, and delicious. If I named one flavour I'd have to name another 20! The novelty of the "specials" is a big drawcard and adds a welcome element of surprise, but I think the genius lies more in the regular perfected flavours. I really don't mind the big line or the chaotic service; it's all part of the Messina fun!
Love their gelAtooooooooo!! The salted caramel is one of my faves! Worth the queue on a weekend night and sooo many flavours to choose from. :)
The folks at Messina’s have built an impressive reputation which has seen them feature on popular Aussie cooking shows, most notably Masterchef Australia. They’ve also become known for the way they make gelato and the fine line they successful tread between what is considered authentic Italian gelato and what is considered a modern, sophisticated take on that authenticity.

Favorite place for gelato! I have never had any flavours from here which I disliked. All very flavorsome. Can't go wrong if you're looking for a sweet treat that's not overwhelming.
Delicious Ice cream !! I had the Dulce de leche , and it was very good ! Nice and creamy and very sweet ! Helpful lady at the counter but a very long line to wait ! But worth it 😊

I usually prefer the fruity sorbet types but this time i tried the macadamia crunch and i really liked it. The ice cream itself is a little too sweet in my opinion, but there was a lot of crunch packed in there which i enjoyed
Can't go wrong with Messina. A few new players have popped up but for me, it's Messina all the way. The salted caramel is absolute brilliance. Tiny bits of chewy white chocolate. Yum. The coffee is also another favourite. Has a really strong coffee flavour, none of that weak bland flavours.
Most delicious icecream ever.
Had something with banana, brownies and caramel... it was so indulgent, rich and delicious.
One scoop was enough although you want to eat more.
It's not easy to write review about Gelato Messina because their menu changes all the time. I have been there more than a dozen of times and never once I saw the same special on the blackboard twice. It's amazing how they create new flavours constantly! Hat off just for the innovation.
Last night I tried "compost", "banana foster", "david Bawl Ew", but eventually went for yogurt and berry and "Sicilian trifle". The former isn't really my taste, I should have known. Sicillian trifle was good, light, a hint of banana? I would have ordered "compost" should it taste a bit more peanut butter.
As usual there was a queue but moved fast. Can't wait to try their new invention soon again.
Just as good as what it's famous for, amazing gelato! So far this is the only gelato shop i keep going back for. Anyway, I'm sure you will agree with me until you actually try it. 👍
•Triple chocolate cake - wow wow wow wow wow... overloaded with chocolate.. what else can you ask for?
•Staff are helpful and friendly
•The cake store is next to the gelato outlet, both worth a visit!
•My favourite gelato - blood orange, pistachio and panacotta with fig
Pandan and coconut gelato are my favourite.. honestly used to be the best gelato place for me.. however found better ones over time.. but still one of the top gelato places.
Sadly I'm lactose intolerant so whenever I hit up Messina in Surry Hills I can only have their sorbets. Thankfully Messina's sorbets are INCREDIBLE. My favourites have to be Pandan & Coconut, Salted Coconut & Mango Salsa and Chocolate. I don't know how Messina gets their sorbets so deliciously creamy without utilizing any dairy product but no need for too many questions here...you just have to eat! Delicious!
What can you say about Gelato Messina? If you haven't been here before, drop whatever you're doing- and head there. Now.
Brought my fiancé and the visiting in laws to try it out, and they absolutely loved it. The thing I especially love about Messina is that they'll always have new flavours to try out every time you visit. It has a great option of sorbets and ice creams- this time we had the salted caramel with white chocolate chips which was amazing, whilst relaxing in the park opposite!
Great service - the staff are lovely.
Their specials of the week are generally good. Particularly loved 'mr potatohead' (peanut butter icecream with crisp potato chips throughout) and the 'Rexinator' was pretty good too (vanilla gelato with raspberry sorb, marshmallow cookie and jelly).
Texture is smooth and creamy in general however I find most of their regular flavours a too sweet and it takes away from the flavour.
My friend n trip advisor insisted that I try out this place while in Sydney. It was something I won't forget. We stood in a line for over 20 mins while we chatted n chose our flavors. The staff were friendly n allowed me to sample a few before I made up my mind. I was shocked to see the place so full. Outside the shop there is a small park where y can chill n relax while u eat away ur prize!
Always have new and unique flavour! I'm enjoyed every time I come here. My fav is pannacotta &lemon flavour. Those are so nice!! I love to come here and grab delicious gelato then have it in the park which is located in just oppsite side.
Was told by a friend of mine that Sydneys Messina is better Than Melbournes. She was right! Great little location. Opposite a small park. Perfect late afternoon snack for the man and I on Sunday afternoon, before heading to the airport to fly back home to Melbourne. Had the specials "true romance", basically peanut butter, fudge and cookies rolled into an ice cream. Delicious! Place itself is quite small and squashy, but the service is quick and friendly. Will definitely recommend my Melbournian friends to visit

A perfect spring day really does call for icecream, so we stopped in at Gelato Messina in Surry Hills. I love the vibrant colours and huge spheres of icecream in the display cabinet at Messina stores, and this one was no exception. The sorbets at the entrance caught my eye and I ordered a cup of the raspberry and mandarin sorbets ($6.80 for two scoops). The bottom scoop of mandarin was a bit bigger than the top scoop of raspberry, but the whole serving together was massive and I took my time enjoying it at the park across the road. I won’t talk too much about texture, because by the time I crossed the road the sun had started melting the edges and it went downhill from there (as to be expected), but the flavours were fantastic. The raspberry had a particularly intense flavour that is probably the most concentrated pure raspberry flavoured sorbet I’ve tried. The balance betwen tartness and sweetness was just right. The mandarin flavour was equally lovely – it was really juicy and whilst not as intense, it was beautifully refreshing and had real clarity of flavour. Ah Messina, you never fail to impress.
There's probably no need to review every Messina I've visited (here, Bondi, Darlinghurst, Collingwood) as the gelato is the same at each one. They're all great. Messina has the formula right in producing big serves of fabulous gelatos & sorbets at lower prices than their competitors, and with lots & lots of different flavours
The novelty of lining up on a lovely night and having nice gelato - great way to finish a meal. Regularly changing special flavours makes it exciting. Favourite flavour is pandan and coconut - refreshing and light. Special flavours that have the peanut butter and chocolate are usually winners!

If you’re around the area and looking for a quick dessert fix, grabbing a gelato from Messina will sure satisfy those cravings. Although a tiny store the line moves fairly swiftly, but it can be a little difficult to manoeuvre around other people, ducking in and out to see what flavours they have available.
It’s exciting to see what new flavour combinations they have on offer. Whilst some of the flavours are pretty spot on, others can be a little too sweet, dare I say *gasps*. But the texture is smooth and creamy, and just has enough texture contrast of hidden gems and added bits and pieces within the gelato.
I was also lucky enough to try the Dr Evil’s magic mushroom cake and it was decadent and delicious. Maybe a tad too rich, so a small piece would do. It is on the pricer side considering its size, but it’s worth it in terms of quality, wow factor and of course flavour. Plus it's so darn cute!
Recommended // salted caramel w/ white chocolate, dr evil’s magic mushroom cake
Pros // quality, flavoursome gelato, special flavours
Cons // queues, limited seating
Food: 4/5
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 4/5
This place has fantastic gelato and everyday there are cool new interesting flavours to be had! So fun!
They have the best sorbet flavours out there. So fruity and yum! And their milky gelato flavours are so good too.
It gets pretty packed during peak hour so don't assume there'll be seats or places to sit during peak times, and be prepared to queue up. But the gelato is so worth it!! TRY MESSINA OUT.
Really enjoyed the vegan ice creams. I tried the chocolate, raspberry and one with coffee and all were excellent. For some reason the place is extremely crowded in the evenings with long queues.
Loved the flavours and despite some being a bit too sweet for my liking XD I bought a 1L tub and filled it with 4 flavours!! Definitely recommend you to go there!. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. This review is long overdue, but better now than never….
I tried so long to resist Messina - thinking it was just a cult thing…"it can't honestly be that good", "frozen yogurt is so much better", "it's not worth queuing up for"…etc etc…Well, I'll admit I have had to eat humble gelato. (ohhh humble pie flavour, messina??) Hands down, best gelato in Sydney. There is no denying. It's worth the queue (which moves quickly enough anyway due to the cash nay policy and amazing staff - awesome work guys) and it's always a testament to how good the gelato is, when people are lining up in the middle of winter on a weeknight, to get their hands on the cold, delicious goodness. It's best we face facts now; Messina has the monopoly on all gelato in Sydney, or frozen desserts in general. Just surrender yourself and embrace the gelato revolution.
the recent game of thrones inspired ice cream was so good!!!! i had the 'khaleesi' mango and dragon fruit. whoever comes up with their flavours is an absolute GENIUS. i also recently bought an ice cream cake from the miranda store for a birthday. it did not disappoint!
Had never heard of Messinas till recently! I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT! So many flavours that are tasty, our favourites are the banana split and salted caramel. Beats all the other gelato places We have been to.
Sweet jumpin Jesus that was good ... Salted coconut mango made me weep. It was freezing, but that didn't stop me from lapping it up. I'll definitely be back.
Christine and I bought the two ice cream bars to shared. This is always the smartest way to eat your way through food festivals that also allows you to taste almost everything on offer. The ice cream bars were surprisingly large. The first was the Picnic and man it was better then an actual Picnic bar.It was chocolatey, crunchy, creamy all in the same time. It was exactly like eating a Picnic bar but with the added benefit of gelato.
It was AMAZING! Was absolutely delicious and I will definitely be going back soon! The flavours are true to the name and the taste and texture is light, not sickly and is simply divine. For a price tag of $6 for 2 scoops the damage to your wallet is not that bad as well :)
A visit to Gelato Messina is usually near the top of list of ‘best places to eat’ in Sydney. It featured highly in my guide book, on Urbanspoon and on Trip Advisor. There are a number of Messina shops dotted around the city and the suburbs – from Darlinghurst to Bondi to Parramatta.
Sydney Festival 2015... One of the most inventive desserts we have tried in a long time. Deceptively appearing to be a serving of chicken and waffles like Messina’s neighbour Porteno, it was later revealed to be a maple and pecan flavoured ice cream piece deep fried with a “life-like” layer of skin surrounding it. It was really deceptive - and feasting with your eyes it was really, really confusing, but in a really great way. It was creative, and the flavours worked wonders together. The maple flavour in particular was the most appropriate choice, as it mimicked the expectation of chicken and waffles. Of course, the Belgian waffles were faultless, and since waffles are also commonly served with ice cream as a dessert, the two elements complemented each other surprisingly well. Our minds were well and truly blown away!

So a few days ago, my Monash friends came up to visit and see Sydney. So I had two tiring, but fun days of leading everyone everywhere. Day 1: We went to Newtown for lunch and Sydney Festival afterwards, where we tried Messina's carnival creations
Messina is one of my favourite gelato places – I tried it for the first time and I fell in LOVE with gelato! I’m so glad that there are now 3 different stores in Sydney and that so many people have become fans (like myself) but honestly I wish the lines could be shorter! Also that people could stop eating the flavours I want cause then it runs out and I can’t get any! So here are the 15 Messina flavours I’ve been dying to try and I can dream of them in my sleep… 1. Stranger with Candy - white chocolate and peanut gelato with candied peanuts. you can trust our stranger with candy. Strangers with CANDY! Messina’s peanut butter gelato is one of my personal favourite regular flavours so I CANNOT go pass Strangers with candy! CANDIED PEANUTS! One of my favourite snacks nomnomnom! And I've actually tried this one and it was DELICIOUS (my only regret is that I didn't take a photo!) 2. LITTLE BLOKE - peanut butter gelato with malt o milk biscuits and nutella fudge. Have a go at our lit
In memory of MESSINA PSYCHEDELIC PSUNDAES...Creaming soda & vanilla swirled gelato, redskin & banana lollipop, crushed humbug lollies, topped with fairy floss. Mango sorbet gelato, torched soft italian meringue, raspberry puree, crushed shortbread crunch.
Messina has such a great range of classic and traditional flavors which are complemented by quirky, creative options that are placed on a specials board just inside the shop. The best thing about coming to Messina is that you can discover which ones you enjoy, as the staff are happy to give you a small sample of a few until you come to your final decision! I opted for the salted caramel for my first scoop, which is my favorite flavor, and Messina’s version didn’t disappoint! There was the right amount of saltiness and kick, and there were white chocolate chips interspersed throughout to add some sweetness and balance it out! My other choice was pandan and coconut, which was a sorbet rather than a gelato. It was a good complement to the salted caramel, as it was more tart, and tasted fresh and icy, as a good sorbet should. My compan
Super good Gelato!! Interesting and rich flavours, friendly staff! Worth the price.
Ordered:
- Pistachio Praline (10/10)
Quality gelato. Plenty of variety, weekly special flavours and the legendary cakes! The new store fitout makes it harder to see/select your flavours but it feels more spacious inside.
A good range of gelato and they give you a taste. A lot of the flavours are original to them.
I like Messina Gelato. They have some classic good flavours that is always a hit plus every week special that you can try out. Their gelato cake is interesting and yummy too got the Quad Choc $68 it consist of
milk, white and dark chocolate gelato, toasted white chocolate parfait, flourless chocolate sponge, crunchy caramel milk chocolate, finished with velvet chocolate spray. Quite yummy.
The huge queue speaks volumes - everyone knows how amazing the ice cream is and service was great too.
So many flavours to choose from (and quite a few specials) that it can be overwhelming.
Went with the milk choc peanut fudge (amazing, but seriously sweet) and salted caramel with white chocolate.
Definitely worth a visit and the queue goes down pretty sharpish.
