Review Jacksons On George - Sydney

Here ia another P.J.Gallaghers irish style pub here..except this is known as Jackson on george. This is very pleasant pub, i would say here is rightfully priced (consider the location of pub). This place also have TAB, free wifi (always plus), some live entertainment on friday. Happy hour is available. Foods (i was at tuesday and here does beef and guiness pie for $15) are served really generously. Plus the waitress at the bar - ClÍona - provides wonderful service. Should come here for one time in the afternoon with friends

Great little place that was a favourite a long time ago, but with everything closed in Sydney, this is a quaint and joyful place to be. Flowing crowd on the weekend

Went to the place last week and fell in love! They have a great deal where if you buy a HUGE pint of beer, its only about 7.50! Though the place has a club at night and does get a little crazy, I would tell anyone to go in during the day to have a nice afternoon lunch or a quick drink!

The place is alright but the doorman is really really rude. He was kind of plump, on a Wednesday night, thought he owned the bar. Some drunk man came and disturbed our table but he did not bother figuring out who was at fault and was quit on his feet to assumptions. I would much rather drink at home than come here spend my money

Some other patrons during my visit were a bit over the top & becoming roudy & disruptive making the vibe unpleasant & anxiety provoking. Took away from noticing the better aspects of the place. Id say its a venue for a bigger night out rather than a chill with mates over a beer & dinner. Quite pricey. However the location contributes to the prices so for near circular quay in the heart of city youd expect this.

Food was amazing but service was absolutely terrible. We attended a function that had been booked for a large number of people and had been told food would be available to order from 8-10 pm. We tried to order food at 8:30 and were told we couldn't because they were too busy. We then asked if we could bring in other food and were told no. They were happy to container serving everyone drinks though, which I'm certain is not responsible. Eventually (after about 40 minutes) my husband convinced them to let us order and then our food arrived in 15 minutes. Very confusing. Food was actually really delicious, it's a shame they seemed reluctant to actually let us buy it!

I've always liked going to this pub on George St. There are multiple levels and have a pool hall that's open till late. Drinks are the usual prices, but they do serve pints. The music is decent with the downstairs area playing more chill out songs and the upstairs area playing the more clubbing music.

Apparently this is / was known as a dive bar. To me, it was an awesome bit of home. Being from Canada, I'm used to table service, tipping, fake Irish themes and WiFi. This place had it all and an awesome Sunday roast to boot. How can I go wrong? We do need to check out the other areas of the bar, but I'll be back when I get to Oz again...

Jacksons is currently missable because of all the construction around it. Even then, we could easily locate Jacksons and spent a few hours there. <br/><br/>we enjoyed the variety of drinks and spent most night enjoying the music and playing pool. Was great :)

The food here is of a good quality, all 5 meals were top notch. The wine by the glass not so good. The bottle had been open way too long. Good pub grub at a good price.

I like Jacksons on George. I have been there a few times to have a pub meal by myself. I like to do that from time to time. <br/><br/>A few staff members from merivale came in all dressed up after their recent Christmas party and were very friendly so I ended up having a drink with them and went to frankies afterwards. <br/><br/>It's nice to meet new friendly people and this is a good place for that

Sam: I haven't been on Jacksons on George for many years but few friends from work wanted to go in after a few drinks on the harbour and I thought what the hell. I have to say the place hasn't changed one bit still the oak seedy beer smelling place it has been for the last 20 years. Beers are reasonable though and they have a very forgiving dress code.

Dive bar that always had a bad reputation.  I stopped going there after one visit and witnessed first handed the kind of clientele it attracted.  Plenty of far better options nearby and absolutely no reason to come here again.

**Parmas of Sydney edition**<br/><br/>A few weeks ago three of our members took a sneaky trip down to Sydney to see Above and Beyond at #ABGT150. What a night it was, but as soon as we got off the plane we knew two things: <br/><br/>1. That Melbourne's better<br/>2. We needed a Sydney parma<br/><br/>After a little sightseeing we stumbled across Jacksons on George, an awesome Irish pub with multiple levels. We ordered the parma which was $22 and to our surprise they used the same currency as us Melbournians.<br/><br/>After 20 minutes the birds arrived and we got to it. Chicken was fresh and tasty enough, and the crumbing was cooked to crunchy perfection. Cheese and napoli were nothing spectacular but nice enough. Chips were very standard pub chips which was okay, but we do prefer our beer battered chips. Salad was also quite average.<br/><br/>While it wasn't quite the Sun and the Moon to us, it was still a fairly standard parma which was okay for $22. <br/><br/>6.5/10

Overall an interesting place. Multiple floors with different genre playing. If you're feeling a little Irish and want a metropolitan setting in Sydney downtown, this is the place.<br/><br/>Rude staff though, especially the bouncers, but then again this place definitely sees its fair share of misbehaved nutjobs, especially on the weekend nights.<br/><br/>Overall, definitely above average, been here plenty of times.

Never have I been treated this rudely by staff before. Ignored by staff, who then proceeded to be rude after approaching them about the wait.

Sexist unreasonable. Do not bother. Go anywhere else in Sydney

Average food

Usual bar/pub style food.. I caught up with a friend for lunch and we both ordered the the beef burger with fries and this was a decent serve and to us it was too big and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. Popular with the work crowd and service was friendly enough, you order at the bar and the food comes when it's ready.

Had seafood here and it was all beautifully made. Reasonably priced and handy for meal around office area :)

Fantastic pub Cafe. Popped in on Monday night for a steak and to my surprise, it was only $14.50 for a steak with mash or fries with veg. ALSO you get a FREE beer or wine.<br/><br/>BARGAIN and amazing Steak quality.<br/><br/>this place is 4 levels and the front of it does not look "Pubby" at all.<br/><br/>Very decent decor and great Cafe/Restaurant feel.<br/><br/>Must Try!!!!

Great range of beers. The fish and chips tasted really moist and sweet, the way they should be. The salad that came with the fish and chips was a very nice surprise, it's rare that the salad is anything more than an after thought. But here they serve a good salad that compliments the fish nicely. All that's needed now are thicker fries, and a mushy peas option.

Just around the corner from the harbour, this venue is a real gem. Great food at a good price, and a few vegetarian options on the menu. Good size mains available from $14 and they serve beer in pints, what more could you ask for!
