Review Dear Sainte Eloise - Sydney

Britney S
Booked a last minute dinner here with a friend on Saturday evening and everything was perfect. We had the set menu which was fairly priced at $75 per head for 3 courses and each dish that came out was delicious! They catered to our dietaries without any issues at all. The service was also great and the wine was beautiful. The whole vibe that Dear Saint Eloise offers is a lot of fun but also relaxing. Thanks again guys! We will be back :)

I will start with the positives and then negatives. Positives - Ambience, atmosphere, lighting, location were beautiful feels like you are in a little bar in Paris - Would only recommend this place for alcohol as the wine is lovely, although it took them 20 minutes to serve us our glasses of wine somehow. Negatives - Food was honestly awful, that my friend and I felt we could not even go on to order mains and left those out. We ordered some bread, the olives and squash. - The olives tasted expired and were so small and flavourless, we could not even finish them and did not go well with wine. - The bread was cold and not warmed up and tasted fishy like it has been next to prawns. - The squash was literally raw squash, raw zucchini and pumpkin seeds with no flavouring just a bit of olive oil and salt - Completely flavourless and was not a good pairing even with wine. The only reason I chose to write this review is because I felt this place needs to up the food menu asap or just stick to alcohol - Charging almost $20 for a couple of pieces of raw squash, $6 for one piece of cold bread - You won't survive in a amazing food hub that Potts Point offers and having a glass of wine served to you waiting over 20 minutes is poor service. However, the ambiance and atmosphere was lovely and almost made up for the poor service and food.

Made a stop by here during a Sydney weekend trip and safe to say it was the highlight! Incredible service and tasty food - every dish was 11/10 and I may just need to make visiting this place a tradition each time I’m in town.

Love this place. Such great service from really knowledgeable staff. Innovative, tasty dishes and cute interior. Also great place for a glass of wine watching the world go by. The wine list is excellent!

Great experience all around, thank you! Very easy dealing with Felix to arrange the group booking and all dietaries. The downstairs dining room was perfect for 11 of us, with sun streaming in over lunch. Our waiter was great - fun and accommodating. Wine selection really good and food good too

Visited for Mother’s Day dinner with my wife and my 2 kids under 3. The service was amazing, despite our tricky demands. Food was also as good as the service…very interesting and great use of contrasts. Surprisingly, even the simple things like bread butter and kids pasta were incredible. Highly recommended…even with small kids!

Was so excited to come to the his highly recommended wine bar- unfortunately it fell very short.
Throughout the evening in a WINE BAR we topped ourselves up each time(never from service) and on top of that got referred to the ‘less expensive wine’ list assuming we couldn’t afford anything more.

The pasta was undercooked and we were left extremely underwhelmed

This is a truly charming little place! The server we had was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about (of course) wine! She gave our group great recommendations and we all left happy with our wine choices. We also had the goat ragu over pasta, the fried zucchini flowers, and the burrata - all absolutely delicious. And the blood plum ricotta tart for dessert was sublime. Well worth a visit!

Dear Saints Eloise is a tiny bar at Potts Point which occupies the former Waterman’s Lobster Co in Potts Point. Named after a character in George Orwell’s Down and Out in London and Paris, the bar-bistro offers a series of delightful drinks but subpar food.

Oh dear, their cocktails and drinks are awesome. I drank a couple of premium negroni. Here, the bitter orange skin sank beautifully into the mixture of gin, vermouth and campari. The tasteful mixture doesn’t dry your palate but leave a refreshing yet intoxicating flavour.

I got the zucchini flowers which was covered with shredded pecorino. The fried zucchinis were soft and soggy. Not my cup of tea.

The perfect wine bar in a perfect spot. It's got a cool vibe, great service, they offer free sparkling water (love that) and a super interesting and extensive wine list, with lots of glasses at the $10-$12 mark which is pretty good for East Sydney. Made me want to come back for food (and more wine). I will... Stay tuned.

Waterman's Lobster Co is out and the team from Love Tilly Devine have now opened a cosy little wine bar called Dear Sainte Eloise. Sydney Rock Oysters from Wapengo Lake ($4) come with an interesting fermented horseradish which works well in moderation. Oysters are shucked to order with noticeable brine. Would have loved a slice of lemon as well to mix things up on the palate. The lovely sommelier Jasmin Natterer recommended the Envinate, 2014 'Taganan' Vinos Atlanticos Blanco, Canary Islands, Spain to stand up to the richness of flavours and I agree. Thanks for the suggestion and complimentary glass which seems to be only available by the bottle. Smoked mussels on toast ($14) comes on a highly charred bread for extra flavour and those plump mussels so good with the tasty broth that's best mopped up with some extra Bread ($4). Burrata with charred bread and mint ($20) is a generous amount of burrata which I think can be shared between two. I found the extra bread helpful in finishing. Background music is well chosen, decor is nice, seating neighbourly and cosy, and service was friendly and helpful. The passion for good wine is evident. The limited menu will certainly tempt a small group to want to order everything to try.
