Review Max Brenner - Sydney

It’s a good store with really good hot chocolate, tried their Italian thick dark chocolate and it was great. However it gets a bit busy and sometimes the waiter forgets the order. It took us 30min to get our order as they’ve forgotten about us...

The mocha was like very velvety kind of pleasant liquid chocolate - u could taste the dark chocolate in it, good work

Classic hot chocolate is very simple. Trutti-Fruitty Waffle is the best. It’s a crispy & chewy Belgian waffle topped with milk chocolate sauce and served with ice cream, fresh strawberries and bananas.

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar is not the best nor the worst dessert bar I've been to. I'm glad I tried it, but I won't be going back. I had the Choc-banana pizza for $18.50 & it wasn't worth that price. The base bread tasted doughy, not enough chocolate was drizzled on top & the banana consisted of a few slices. The best part was the mini marshmallows, the pizza had a good amount of that on top. It was eatable, but I had to throw half the bread away after eating the toppings & it was smaller than an average pizza. Also very pricey for something I can make at home. I expected to say 'wow, look at that chocolate pizza' but what I said was 'that's it?'. My sister had the banana praline crepes. The crepe itself was so thin, it was almost non-existent & the vanilla ice cream didn't taste like vanilla. My rating: 2.5 stars - Below average but not totally disgusting.

I wanted a coffee but seeing as it was Sunday evening most of my favourite coffee places around King St. were closed, so I was happy to see that Max Brenner stayed open late and served coffee. It seemed moderately busy when I went in, but nothing crazy. I waited at the counter a few minutes while others were being served...no problem there. I waited another few minutes at the front of the queue while the guy taking orders started delivering drinks and food to others. So I'm probably waiting at the counter for 5 minutes and eventually the barista looks over to me and flatly says "we won't be taking orders for a while." No "sorry, it's super busy!" No "we can take your order but there might be a wait." No "thanks for waiting!" I went across the road to Cloud 9 chocolate cafe where I got served immediately and where the staff (and prices) were much friendlier - I'd recommend others do the same.

An early Saturday morning shopping expedition along the eclectic Newtown high street, had us stop for a pick me up while we waited for the shops to open. I was in younger company so thought it would be a nice treat for them to take them to the baldmans place. The cafe was dirty and it seemed neglected, which was not a great first impression. The staff behind the counter were very young, inexperienced and inadequate at their job, stuffing up a couple of simple orders that were placed before our own. We waited for a longer than necessary time due to the staffs incompetence and what arrived was a sickly sweet hot chocolates that even my chief sweet toothed companion couldn't stomach. I ordered a coffee and wish I had opted for water, as the coffee was insipid. To top it off the prices are high end for a low end experience. Liked: Spending time with my daughter Disliked: Prices, service and product

I was so disappointed to find out that they charge 10% surcharge for 2 people who came in and are wanted some waffles and coffee. Normally hospitality establishments charge surcharge for large groups. To make it even worse we were told about this after we ordered our food and wanted to pay. While we were eating my gf had spilled some hot chocolate on the floor and they didn’t even bother to clean it up. I’ve asked them 3 times and they just ignored me. It is so sad to see this happen. I wouldn’t like to recommend this establishment to anyone.

Really nice interior...be warned air conditioning is always on full. This can be great for an otherwise super hot day though. They have great little chocolate displays and areas where you can see the chocolate mixed etc...would be good for kids. Near the bother of Missenden Rd and King Street, minutes walk up from the RPA hospital. They now stock vegan chocolate...as long as you order the super rich dark chocolate drink otherwise the milk will be shot but the hot chocolate mix has dairy/lactose in it as a heads up. Most of the staff apart from one (he could be the Manager) seem to have her little cafe for customers or what they sell. There not at all passionate and when you ask any questions they will mostly answer with something close to " yeah, i don't know" and make no effort to find out or even look/think.
