Review Hari's Vegetarian - Sydney

Lorenzo Nevin
Well, what can I say about Mother Chu's. We've been joyfully eating here since 99 when I was 6. Having been to vegetarian restaurants of differing cuisines all over Sydney, I can safely say that Mother Chu's (Taiwanese), quite easily, provides the highest quality of food that there is. The service provided by Sophie, Umi and Henry is friendly and impeccable. The variety on offer, with over 100 mains to choose from, is unmatched. The portion sizes are generous and their price points very fair. Their mango, raspberry and passionfruit home-made soy ice cream is divine as well as the rest of the dessert menu. Personally, I love the way they cook their veggies Al dente, so they provide some crunch and texture to the dish. If you get the chance to pre-order the Peking duk, do it. It's an occasion that will never disappoint. Mother Chu's especially shines with bigger groups so you can order plenty of dishes and dip your chopsticks into each one! Mother Chu's is an absolute institution for all vegetarians in Sydney. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Standard, reliable, delicious, healthy Chinese cuisine. Extensive menu. Very friendly staff. Good space between tables, front door kept ajar for air circulation. Everything is delicious and nicely presented. Soups are per person, so one can enjoy the wonton and another can choose hot and sour(about $7/serve). Lots of gluten, tofu, crispy rolls, and some breaded fried specialties for those who like the American style dishes. Hot pots, noodles, stir fries. I had an order of spring rolls which came crisp with just enough sweet sauce, and a lovely garnish of shredded lettuce, cucumber and carrot. The wonton soup was perfectly seasoned and flavourful, the wontons like little tortellini and bits of carrot shred and bok choy spears. I had the Kung Po gluten which came with red capsicums, zucchini chunks and onion (or the white parts of bok choy). Not too sweet, and the chilies soft and not very spicy. Bite into the chili carefully! The steamed rice is a P erfect portion for one. The pot of tea I ordered was Oolong of good quality. Most fishes range between A$18-24, and are ample portion for 1-2 persons. Surcharges for credit card (minimum A$20), and holidays. Take away containers .50 cents. Considering how many Asian restaurants close between December 20-January 4, it was just a delight to find them open on December 28, serving home-style comfort foods in a calm and serene environment. Covid decimated the foodservice industry, fortunately the decades of quality food, availability of take out and delivery kept one of the CBD’s reliable dining outlets going. It’s not fancy, just simple tasty fare served with a smile by people who truly thrive on feeding the hungry a product that they are proud of. I will return again with my veggie friends.

This is one of my all time favourite restaurants that I have been frequenting for over a decade. The family running the restaurant are always wonderful and sweet to deal with and the food is FANTASTIC! I highly recommend the crispy gluten, and any of the honey glazed options (they'll kill any honey chicken craving you might have). There are plenty of equally delicious gluten free options too.

Amazing food! I tried the corn soup and the veggie curry… delicious. The place was super clean and the staff really nice

I really enjoyed lunch here! This little restaurant has some lovely offerings. The salt and pepper tofu is a little bland but I’d highly recommended the crispy gluten in chilli sauce. Staff are pleasant and kind and the prices are very reasonable. I look forward to going back.

Had been planning to come here for a while and finally came here for dinner in a weekday. It wasn’t super busy but yes there were few people dining in. Staff and service is pleasant. Food was delicious, tons of variety to choose from. Everything we ordered was unique in itself and tasty. The noodles were not dry as they usually are in other places. I will definitely come here again and will tell my friends too about this little gem.

We have known about this place for many years but never went in as we were on our way to another favourite restaurant. But what can i say! I am so glad we decided to go to Mother Chus this time and my only regret is we didn’t go years ago! They have the best asian food i have ever tasted. The sauces are rich and full of flavour unlike other places where they water it down. We loved every dish and if you crave honey chicken just get the honey gluten balls, they are to die for! And i have finally found a black bean dish worth eating, such a tasty sauce. So many delicious dishes without a hint of animal products. What more could you ask for. And last but not least the owners are very nice and helpful. So much attention is put into the quality of the dishes you can see that.Well worth the visit.

I had a fried dish called Honey Gluten with Walnuts something. It was quite good; despite not being too big on sweet things. Also had one of the appetisers. Will be back to try out more of their dishes edit: 2nd visit, this time tried the Fried Tofu with Pepper and Salt. A little bit too salty for some, but not for me. Still good.

The dal and vegetable curry lacked the Indian flavour and taste. Wouldn't eat Indian food here again, visited the place cause of good reviews but was shocked with the taste.

Have visited this place two days in a row.Must admit, the samosas and kachori is really good. They do pure vegetarian food and is reasonably priced. They have less options for lunch but worth visiting. Will be back again to try the masala tea.

Best vegan restaurant in CBD. If you have been having meals at ISKCON and enjoyed it, you will love this place. They should add more variety in their menu

This place is my favourite for casual and quick dining experience. It is excellent value for money and the food taste great and is full of flavour. The lasagne is the best best vegan lasagne I have ever had - really rich and filling!! The pumpkin salad is the best they offer. There are also great options for a curry plate - my favourite is the vegetable meatballs. Dessert is also great - the chocolate peanut butter cup is hard to beat! Definitely go here for a tasty and big meal!!

I Definitely will come back again! So delicious! Try their Vegan cakes too! You won't regret! On the day I visited it, they even offered refill of curry.

If you are vegetarian and you find it difficult to find a vegetarian lasagna in sydney, Hari’s Vegetarian could be an option for you.
Its simplicity makes the food more lovable
If you are looking for not so expensive restaurant,
This can be your option.
I purchased a deal off Groupon for this place and I was so impressed!

I had rice and two curries, a small salad, a caramel slice and chai pot. Let’s start with the serving sizes, this place is super generous so if you’re hungry... this is the place to go. The curries were great as well, not too oily, flavoursome... generally, what homemade style curries taste like! The pumpkin salad was okay; it didn’t have much flavour but it was a good balance for the curry. The caramel slice. Now the caramel slice was AMAZING. The chocolate on top was super thick, the slice was the perfect sweetness - highly recommend. The chai pot.. definitely get that too! I love it; probably the best chai I’ve had!

The place is a little small so during peak hours, you may have to share tables or there just won’t be enough tables. I think it’s only a small team running this place so sometimes, plates will be left on the tables for a while and they wouldn’t be wiped down thoroughly. Utensils also need more thorough clean. Nevertheless, the staff are efficient and friendly! Oh and the prices are very very reasonable!

Can’t believe it’s a vegetarian restaurant. The lasagne was nice, replaced meat by eggplant, and the flavor was still there. The food served was huge.Salad was fresh.Really decent food!A lot customers in weekday noon. The pot for Chai was lovely.

Very nice food . Finally have something pure veg food around this area. Also good salad options. Different curries with and without sauce it's pure and clean

This place basically just giving away all their food! We had a groupon for $22 for 2 people. The amount of food they gave us was HUGE!!!!! they give the biggest portion sizes I have ever seen in Sydney. We got lasgne, salad, cheesecake and any drink from the fridge. If you want value for money come here!!!! Food is tasty, lasagna is amazing. Am yet to try the curry but am sure I'll be back.
Cheezie
Such an awesome variety of curries to choose from everyday. The lasagne and pumpkin salad are to die for, and they make one of the best chai lattes I've ever tasted - love coming back to this little shop again and again :)

Near Broadway you'll be unable to discover veggie lover and vegetarian sustenance. In any case, the nourishment is extremely normal - a jumble of various cooking styles blended with Indian and none done well.

I am a veggie lover but I like to eat meat as well. Without eating at this Hari's Vegetarian restaurant, I will never get inspired to be creative in preparing vegetarian foods. The quinoa salad in this little restaurant was awesome. I was happily surprised that the dessert, vegan black forest could be so delicious. I don't give the full score because the waiting time was quite long, although it was not at the busiest time. However, the staff apologised for keeping me wait for the foods. And this friendly and thoughtful manner is a plus.

yum. small restaurant, huge servings. great value for what you get - especially the student combo meal. ive been here twice and i will keep coming back for the homely taste. feels good!
FoodieZealot
I have tried their meal combos so far and liked it. It had a homemade taste. Also the meal pricing is very reasonable. this place can get crowded for lunch and dinner so at times their customer service is not upto the mark.

Loved the size of servings they serve. This place reminded me of the home made food back in India.
Good Food, Good Customer service.
Cheers

I appreciate the service, taste and quality of vegetarian food served here at such a competitive price. I can feel the ISKCON devotion while the food is served. I like the ambience all in all very happy experience having the Hari's Meal.

A perfect place for all those vegan lovers ! Their menu does seem to impress but the taste were a bit bland. Maybe they fill in the vegan feel but I've been to couple to vegan restaurants around. Overall a good feel and ambience is good. I loved their chai offerings, try the amrita

Quick advice - go for the combo meals they're the best sellers.

Menu has a great variety of vegan and veg options. I had the quinoa salad and chick pea curry - really tasty! Service was attentive and friendly - even offered us extra salad when i requested no rice. Would go back.

We arrived in and were initially impressed with the place. The staff member on the counter was very friendly. The menu seemed a little too expansive and usually that is a sign that the chef is trying to do too much. This was confirmed in the time it took for us to be served our meals. My partners paneer curry arrived promptly but my vegan Burrito did not arrive until 25 minutes later with no apology for its tardiness. While the paneer curry was decent, the burrito was covered in tasteless sauce inside and out and was less than appetising. I did not feel well after eating it either. We also had two ginger and lime sodas which could have been good only they arrived half way through the meal and were not blended properly. Overall a disappointing experience and a dickie tummy all for just under fifty dollars.

Now where do you start? This place is simply FABULOUS, in all ways!

The interiors are nicely done, and there is ample seating available. A friendly-looking guy at the counter greeted me with a smile, and took my order. I went for a Veg lasagna.

My order arrived pretty quickly. They served my lasagna with a salad, which looked healthy and tasted pretty good. Now the lasagna itself - simply out of this world! Wow! And it was quite filling as well. I was left with a heavy tummy!

Initially I thought their prices were slightly on the higher side, but considering the quality and quantity, I changed my mind! Will surely revisit. Highly recommended!

Food - 5/5
Ambiance - 4.5/5
Service - 5/5
Value for money - 4.5/5
Overall - 5/5

Walked in on a lovely summers evening and it was steaming inside. Definitely warmer inside than out. I felt like there was no ventilation and definitely no a/c so be prepared if the day is super hot. The lady at the register seemed lost and confused, no real greeting and just stares at us, so we weren't really sure if we were supposed to order and go or sit anywhere and wait. There were still plates from previous customers left on all the free tables, so we had to push them aside to make use of the table until the waitress took them away.

Ordered the honey potato, crispy baby corn, tofu teriyaki salad, and chana masala which comes with rice. The curry was sooo tasty, and the potato and baby corn were good too. I didn't really enjoy the salad. One thing about this place is that the portions are HUGE and very filling so definitely take this into consideration when ordering. Prices are good too, all this came to around $40, and could have easily fed 3 people. I would go again and try more curries as I feel they are the true stars of the show.

You feel like tasting the entire menu. Innovation with veg food is just brilliant. You got to taste sweet and sour noodles and honey potato. One of the best Indian vegan restaurant in Australia. ***** stars from my side. A must try for everyone even if you are a meat lover.

I've been here twice and I've found myself raving about this place to anyone who's craving a vegetarian meal. It's about 15 minutes walk from central station or there's free 2 hours parking at Broadway.

Pros: friendly staff - easily approachable to ask any questions. I had a few queries about the dessert options. Reasonably priced especially if you're a student.

Con: the chai tea was far too strong for me, perhaps I'm too used to the western style chai lattes.
The restaurant can feel stuffy. I'm not sure if there's air conditioning. The last time I visited on a hot day and we sat sweating in there.

Hari's Vegetarian is a great little place serving up Hare-Krishna style food with affordable prices. They have curries, pastries, nachos, salads, deserts and more. My favourite dish is the teriyaki tofu. Delicious!

It's the utopia of vegan food in the area! Selection of salads / curries & hot food / pies / pastries. Also very reasonably priced! No dead animal salads in this place!
Mridul127
great place for veggie lovers..food is flavoursome and tasty.. a treat for indian-chinese cuisine lovers..probably the closest you will get in terms of taste to the real thing back home..tucked away in ultimo, this place is not to be missed!

One of the rare places in Australia that serves vegan food, this place has some really jaw dropping stuff. Primarily started going here coz it was close to uni and had the most affordable food ever. The daal here is a must have and the cakes are delicious!!

YUM!!!!!. The food here is amazing!! And so are the drinks. The service is also amazing and we feel really welcome here. Finally, the prices are amazing! Fantastic value for money even if you aren't a student. Huge portion sizes. Our food looked and tasted like a rainbow! Also, PAPPADUMS!
Nina Ell
Love it. Portions are generous, food is tasty, service is great. desserts i've tried (gelato, brownie) werent too good but the nachos and $5 curries more than made up for it!!

Hari’s serves standard vegetarian sub-continent fare with pre-cooked dhals and curries aged over the day metal boxes. It’s not terrible but it’s not particularly flavoursome or interesting either. The dhal is watery and both curries were thin. I found the tomato sauce the most enjoyable thing, I wonder why they don’t cook anything in that?
Hari's Vegetarian Vegan Restaurant make's you forget there's no meat in your meal and gives you healthy brownie points in just a few bites. Hari's Vegetarian is one way you can eat like a vegan without having to feel like you have to buy into a whole new lifestyle. You can choose to eat it because it actually tastes pretty good. The food is fresh and brings out the best parts of eating a vegetable laden meal. There's also fried things and sweet things to bring down the pompous healthy eating level a notch. Many of the dishes are gluten free as well. On the flipside, we can't help think about the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World where there's a section in which Scott must battle Todd the vegan and then (spoiler alert) defeats by giving him milk. There's a side to vegetarianism and veganism that really does go too far, and I'm sure Gwyneth and co really do think they have vegan super powers. While we do love a healthy serve of vegetables in our meals, sometimes the vegan message can b

Delicious vegetarian food that would please the pickiest eaters!. I absolutely love this place, the food is so delicious and flavoursome! Great variety, service and prices! I recommend to anyone not just vegetarians and vegans, this place would please all eaters! Healthy delicious food!
My only complaint is .. I wish they had more stores! :-) in the cbd and Newtown area :-)
Hari
Best food in and around city. I recently was here and ordered gravy noodles and chai. Food tastes amazingly better than many other places I tried within city. The Chai was heavenly. If you ever go there, you shouldn't forget to taste it.

Disappointed. So excited to visit a new vegetarian restaurant..I visited and bought some takeaway items. All were dry and tasteless. Not what you would expect from the usual vegetarian fare!
Emily Walley
Absolutely delicious food! With such an extensive menu this restaurant really thrives in the vegetarian market - I had the Paneer Malakhain with rice and definitely recommend it - I imagine this will quickly become one of my favorite places to eat!
Rophicas
Good vegetable fix at a reasonable price. We've been here several times and appreciate the tasty, healthy food at reasonable prices. The desserts are also worth a try - our male half can't get enough of the vegan sticky date pudding! Probably the healthiest eatery within walking distance, except Iku which is more expensive.
Ronda
I love everything about this place. The healthy and delicious food. The friendly service and the price!
Just wonderful.

My friend and I didn't expect much when we walked in. You order the food from the counter displays and some gets heated up for you so they bring it down to your little table. Food was fantastic, you could tell they knew their vegan food. I would recommend giving Hari's a try and going there hungry so you can try something of everything and don't forget about the desert. I would go back just for the chocolate cake and brownie alone.

Hari Curry. Upon entering Hari's I was immediately struck with how clean everything was. This is a new restaurant, and so everything is still shiney new. From there, everything went down hill. When we eventually got served, waiting for the staff to stop their own conversations, we were given a luke warm curry and rice. The most prominent flavour was salt. These guys really have no idea of how to spice food. The only thing authentically Indian about the place was the outdated Indian attire of those inside who were not even Indian.
The price of the food reflected the quality and service. I guess you get what you pay for.

Great new addition to Sydney vegan dining. Hari's is a new vegetarian restaurant on Broadway, Sydney. It has casual order and pay at the counter service. The staff are very friendly and the food is fantastic. The food is mostly vegan, with a handful of dairy offerings like cheesecake and pizza. There are also vegan pizza, rice paper rolls, rice and curries, delicious fresh salads, herbed tofu cutlets (mmmm!) and rice and curries, to name but a few! The menu keeps expanding and I hear they will be starting vegan lasagne and chips soon. Oh, did I mention the vegan cakes? They also have several gluten free dishes. It's hard to keep myself from going there every day as I work only 10 minutes away!
Sudhumatidas
Cool vegan/pure veg food!. Hari's Vegetarian is a great place - sooo cool to get brown rice as a choice. The pakora's were mouth watering, the veg tofu curry was just right and the halva (sweet semolina dessert) was divine!

The staff are really friendly - they are Hare Krishna's but they don't preach - the food is their example!

We will definitely go to Hari's again!
