I love the burgers here. I ordered their special of the week chicken schnitzel burger which was huge and delicious. Their truffle Mac and cheese is creamy and rich. The fried chicken was juicy and tender, definitely good value for money. The milkshakes were sweet and thick but a bit expensive for $10. Overall great experience and good food.
Got the cheeseburger, sweet potato fries and fried chicken. Sweet potato fries were the best! The burger could’ve used a tiny bit more salt. Chicken was moist and juicy. Big servings. Will come back and leave space for the yummy looking donuts next time. 🍩
Had some great burgers here recently! My WTF burger had the most delectable Angus beef, red onions, hash browns, gooey American cheese, pickles and it tasted just perfect! My partner's southern styled Fried chicken and bacon burger was amazing too. Their onion rings had the perfect crunch and the prices are very reasonable!
Ordered the baconator and the PBJ shake. This place is really good! The burger was so moist and soft 🤤🤤🤤. The PBJ shake was pretty impressive too. Portion sizes are generous. I couldn't finish the chips 😭
Real US style big cheese. Most of their customers are big boiz and gurlz😜. This place was pure indulgence. I liked it very much as a rare treat. Xihuahua 🐶 can’t finish her burger. What a zhazha. Thanks to her great papa who saved the day. My only issue is, where the heck are the hot sauces!? What kinda America is this without the chilli waters!?
We ordered a Mac N Cheese and a variety of donuts.
Mac was really tasty. I know it doesn't look great in the pic but this is because we carried home and took this pic almost an hour later. But flavour wise. Yum....! It was that good that i would just go back for the Mac n Cheese.
Didnt try the burgers but may do so after doing a bit more research about its zabeeha status.
The donuts are also pretty good. The maples syrup and the regular jam filled donuts were proper legit donuts. The bounty and the chox honeycomb were average. Nothing great but the other two (maple and jam) made up for it.
The customer service was great too. The lovely Canadian lady behind the counter was friendly, patient and had some good suggestions. She also threw us a couple of munchkins which a nice touch of customer service.
This place never disappoints! Must try their ‘Original Milk Bar’ burger, one of the best burgers I’ve tried in Sydney! They make pretty good damn donuts as well ❤️
Good burger and the best onion rings! Got it delivered and although the wait was a while it was hot on arrival and onion rings were fresh from fryer. Well worth a try
Went down today for the $10 burger special and went for the biggest one on the menu. Unfortunately there were no donuts today so I’ll definitely have to go back for them.
If this burger is an example of what to expect from this menu, then you’re in for a good time. All the meats were cooked to perfection, with the flavour working so well together. The pork crackle chicken is a game changer, and a must try for sure.
Less that 5 minutes walk from Redfern station (one stop from Central station), Milk Bar really is in a perfect location.
If you’re looking for a guaranteed tasty burger, you’ll be sure to find one here. They bake their own buns fresh everyday and they also make their own doughnuts.
Thanks for having me Milk Bar!
The burgers here are the real deal. One of the best I’ve had in Sydney. The buns are really something special and the beef is oh so juicy. The only I think I wish could of been better were the fries- please go easy on the salt!
The milkbar original burger was really good, the bun was so soft and moist, the patty cover variety of sauces and come with fried onion ring on top of the burger. Their chip was too die double fried so crunchy and the aioli was good as well. Their creative milkshake was yummy as well. Their staff was really nice and welcoming.
Burgers, Donuts and Milkshakes. If only I was allowed to live here.
I finally made it back to @milkbar_cafeish, where a lot has changed since my visit of their initial opening. The Redfern Cafe changed hands over a year ago and has been baking in house ever since. I would go as far to say they have some of the best buns in the business. 😎
I went with all the weekly specials.
The Spain Burger, The Magnificent Milkshake and a Snickers Donut.
I could not stop eating this quality food!
.
🍔 The Spain
Powered with the protein of two angus beef patties, where the cheese melt is captivating. 😍
The crispy salami paired with a fresh jalapeno salsa is a winner.
All sat between in house baked buns that the owner Chandar knows is a supreme product.
Light, fresh and stands up to whatever you throw at, on it, in it…?
.
🍟 The oddity of each golden brown, hand cut chip made each crunch unique. Potato heaven!
.
🍨 The Magnificent
I’ll be lazy and call it a magnificent chocolate and caramel milkshake topped with cream and a mini Magnum.
To keep the caramel theme, why not a Snickers donut, also made in house. (Did I tell you Chandar was previously a Pastry Chef?) The Donut Gods shun on me this fine day. Even after a full combo it was so easy to get down. I could go on, do yourself a favour, buy them all.
Amazing burgers. Incredible service- I stupidly ordered the wrong burger and offered to pay again when ordering the correct one. Owner would not have it. Double thumbs up and thankyou again.
Great place for a quick bite. Burgers just hit the spot and they have a nice variety of them to choose from! They also have some cool desserts which I have yet to try but definitely a place to come back to!
A real hidden gem in the heart of Redfern and honestly gives off a great vibe from the get go. I went in the pouring rain on a Wednesday afternoon so it was quiet but I was surprised as there were a few people flowing through after we left around 6.
Vibe aside, we only ordered some light snacks - the large chips (real crunch factor and the sauces were great + serving was reasonable) and the truffle mac n cheese (which is not too truffly but definitely had some mushrooms tucked in there amongst a cosy bed of cheese).
The burgers that my friends ordered seemed filling and very well presented. I managed to snag a few of their onion rings and found them a bit doughy but otherwise had the right crunch factor and flavour. Would go again to experiment with their expansive array of burgers + donuts!
The team at Milk bar by Cafe Ish dish up some serious burgers !!! I went with the death by donut burger - 2 x Angus beef patties, Double American cheese, Hash brown, Pickles, Grilled onion, Bacon jam, Aioli & Toasted cinnamon bun I then added some fried chicken and bacon because why the hell not :)
I think I had the best burger I've tried so far and will definitely be coming back. I didn't receive the donut I ordered but who cares when it tasted as good as it did!
The hype is real. One of the best milkshakes in town. Tried a combination of banana and chocolate with a cream donut with strawberry topping.
Both were very fresh and the milkshake was refreshing in the exhausting heat.
Must try for people with a sweet tooth.
Definitely try the milkshakes here as they hold that extra little surprise! There is a great atmosphere here with a colourful presence that certainly stands out in its little nook within Redfern. There is great service and some delights for everyone within!
Food: 8/10
Service: 7/10
Price: 7/10
Ambiance: 6/10
Food: The burgers were amazing! Super juicy and tasty! It's a small portion for the price you pay but it's still good. The shakes will fill you up anyway! They were very creamy and delicious. I had the Milk Bar Original Burger which had Onion rings that were great. For all vegetarians: they only have 1 Vegetarian burger option.
Service: The staff were polite and alert! We had a big table and when we asked for water, the staff understood it was for our whole group and brought several cups. SPLIT BILL is possible - great for a big group of people.
Price: Reasonable! The prices for burger range from $12-$18. Milkshakes are $8-$12.
Ambience: It's a cramp and tight space. Go during non-peak hours if you have a big group so you can join tables. Otherwise, it's better to go in smaller groups.
Perfect spot for burgers for lunch
They are reasonably priced.
The homemade beef patties are cooked nicely and flavourful
the burger had a lot of BBQ sauce (overpowering).
The service was quick and staff were friendly .
Mac Daddy : 😍 Amazing
Old Boy : 😁 Great
Loaded Fries : 😁 Great
Cinnamon Donut : 😕 Okay
Service : 😁 Great
O.M.G the Mac Daddy burger is so damn good. I kind of wished there was some hint of chilli but still it was amazing. We were lured by the smell of the cinnamon donuts however when we ate them, they were quite tough and hard to chew through. Service was great. Plenty of smiles 😊
The "Barnyard" burger (double beef patties, fried chicken, bacon, cheese and sauces) with maple bacon cheesy fries, maple bacon doughnut and a "Donkey Kong" shake (chocolate, banana, caramel and peanut butter)
This whole spread was complete bliss, my hands were trembling because it was that damn good. $18.50 for the burger, $44 meal in total but worth every cent.
4.5/5
I've been wanting to visit this place for so long and finally did!
Food was lovely and so was the service.
Burgers were just the right size if you're ordering a milkshake and side.
A little bit hard to find as the sign is hidden but the place is well decorated and had a nice vibe.
Would definitely recommend it to family anf friends.
Food is also well priced.
Will need to visit again for some dessert next time!
I'm really not big on milkshakes. These at Milk Bar are something else. The 'Snickers' ($8) gives good bang for buck. Its chewy, sweet and creamy and just overall divine. Loved the coffee here and considering this is a burger joint I had pretty low expectations. Indulged in the Matcha Donut ($12 combo with milkshake) also which is essentially a plain donut with matcha chocolate twigs. Its light on flavour but good with coffee.
This place was an end to my food safari a week ago. Admittedly I was a bit full from all the food throughout the day and could enjoy this place as much as I wanted to. The milkshakes were amazing. Would recommend the milkshakes. But the the mac and cheese burger wasn't the best. It was lacking in flavour and fell apart completely on my plate. The other burgers my friends had were apparently good though. So it might have been just my burger.
I love how they have such an extensive burger menu with such creative choices! The burgers were pretty delicious, as well as the mac n cheese (which I had to order!)
Great burgers and very creative, wish you could pay by cash as well. Love the wall art would love to come back & service was alright not very engaging to the other customers
Love it, best to go when your hungover, miso caramel milkshake is amazing. Josh the owner always sits down for a nice chat, top bloke. It might not be in the prettiest part of town, next to a very busy street, but the food makes that all okay.
I walked into this place only wanting something small for breakfast and instead ended up getting a maple bacon donut with a coffee milkshake. I thought I would regret the menu after I finished it but I didn't.
The donut was sweet with the icing but the saltyness of the maple bacon helped break up the taste of sweetness. The milkshake was really good. The last time I had a good milkshake was in the US.
Also I loved the decor. It's bright and eclectic.
I want to go back to try one of the burgers when I'm hungrier.
13 Aug 2017 - I finally came back and had lunch here. The burger I tried was the Milk Bar Original which has onion rings on top of the burger and one instead. The BBQ sauce was great and the pickles added a sourness that was most welcomed.
Burger was ok, nothing to scream about, in fact the burger was unique. I ate about 80% of the milk bar original, my friend ate the gunsmoke burger, he thought it was ok. The chicken wings and the chips were great, the doughnuts they sell looked great.
No alcohol. Nice milkshakes.
I love the vibe of this place. The decor is very creative indeed - not many places are as daring. The staff are friendly and seem to be enthusiastic about what they serve. The coconut macaroon milkshake is one of the best milkshakes I've had. People either love or hate their chips, and I certainly fit into the former category - an excellent alternative to the standard thin and crispy type. The cheeseburger is a steal considering the quality - makes you think why people bother to go to the typical transnational fast food joints. The macaroni cheese patty add-on must be experienced at least once. Hygiene could be improved, with tables feeling a bit oily at times. Will come next time when in the area.
I've been to one to many burtger places this year, but finally I was at Redfern for this half day placement which I have been waiting the whole yr for just because I would be in the area to grab a burger after. There are free fries for Fatties, but after explaining to the staff and showing those FB posts, she didn't give me free fries, and only explained the other deals they have on other days. I gave up so just ordered the burger. Later when I was getting a glass of water, she said I could get free fries.

Warning: This post may contain traces of succulent burgers causing mild to severe salivating, 80's flash backs or hallucinations of PAC-MAN chasing cheese draped burgers. If you experience any of these symptoms, please consult your nearest burger joint at Vivid 8Bits + Bytes pop up, Martin Place, before 18th June. Treatment: eat a burger here asap!
After a long visit to Sydney Uni, some friends and I found Milk Bar for a quick dinner. Little did we know the place was a place talked about amongst the local university nearby. The thing that struck me the most about the place was the loaded fries, which were just right for me (and also the fact that the toilet was slightly difficult to find) and all for budget $15.
Had the cheese burger classic and that also did not disappoint. Definitely would come back to try the milkshakes some time (heard positive thoughts about that too!), and would recommend, especially for USYDers who haven't been.
Donuts here are great!
Burgers too👍🏼
Mac & cheese not so good
Milkbar is an old school cafe - no fine dining shenanigans and fancy plated edible flowers - just awesome burgers, donuts and shakes. New menu and new buns meant time to revisit and everything has improved! Well done josh and team
At the Milk Bar by Cafe Ish, I am told that everything is made in-house and that everything is great so I order it all! My milkshake, chips and doughnut are all the bomb! Highly recommend!! However unfortunately my burger had some issues, otherwise it would've been a top notch burger
This place was on my bucket list after seeing the fancy-looking & exotic flavoured donuts they serve up to those not watching their weight. So when I saw their pop up store at vivid last week, you can only imagine how aroused I was. Naturally, I ordered the gun smoke burger and washed it down with a donkey kong shake. Woah baby - I saw plenty of lights before entering the best food coma of my life. Well done boys, I'll see you again at the Fern.
Okay, there are the burgers. Big bad boys with names like the Baconator. This beast will satisfy the biggest of appetites, with layer upon layer of bacon studded beef and pork patty, cheese, pickles and bacon with bacon jam. Bacon, anyone?
But do yourself a favour and leave room for dessert. Their house made donuts are the stuff of sweet dreams (or a diabetic's nightmare depending on how you want to look at it).
We actually started with sweets first and had the lemon meringue donut. It's definitely one for the sweet tooth.
A bit grungy, a bit retro, the Milk Bar by Cafe Ish serves up burgers, milkshakes and donuts that will keep everyone happy. And you'll want to go for a run around the block once you've finished your meal.
This place is full of promise and delightful smells. Really enjoyed the chicken bacon burger but have a feeling there are better options on the menu so will come back again!
Went here with a friend due to the rave reviews and instagram hype of it. It was hyped for good reasons. The patty is absolutely delicious, tender and juicy. The bun is very tasty, I am assuming it is called the Milk Bar because their buns are using milk buns, and it's absolutely delicious and soft, goes with the texture of the patty so well.
The serving is quite big, luckily I shared this with a friend, but still in the end of the day we were both very full. Good value for money for such a delicious burgers. No wonder they are one of the FBAS favourites.
The place looks a little run down, and while we didn't mind the graffiti on the walls, we do mind sitting on an upside-down bucket - if there is anything to fix, it's that.
Hot damn. You better prep your stomach for this place. It's a calorie fest. From the chocolate covered doughnuts to the peanut butter in the burgers this place is a temptation factory. All the wrong food groups band together to rise against your gym membership. The burgers here are absolutely delicious. It's dirty American style so if you are one of those 'Grill'd' burger people - then step aside.
Chips were nice and crunchy, and the Korean fried chicken burger I had was pretty amazing. The only thing dampening my experience was that it was a really stinking hot day and I was sweating in places I've never sweated before and I don't think the place had a fan or any air conditioning inside.
I never go to redfern but a friend said this place had the best chips so i had the check it out. Its a bit unorganized and flustered in there but that didn't really matter. We had to order at the counter which we did. The burgers were good they weren't amazing but they tasted good and were very filling. The chips were very crunchy which i usually love but they just tasted like burnt oil so they weren't that great. If it wasn't so far i would go back to try out other burgers!
Wow! Amazing burger and great incredibly friendly staff! There was a little mix up at the start. Ordered the baconator instead of bad boy baconator. Realised straight away and chef took it back and fixed it. Was really good about it even tho might of been my fault just as much but was really good about it. Couldn't flaw them! Deff worth visiting.
The Milk Bar by Cafe Ish has been around for a bit, and the best thing about this place is how well you can customise your burger. The newest thing I've noticed is that their burgers are slightly bigger now, which is great. Burgers start off pretty cheap, but once you start adding toppings to your hearts desire it can get a bit pricey. There's a special on right now commemorating one year of #hashtagburgers called The Fattay, which is essentially an homage to the Primo by Burgers By Josh
Double patty, triple American cheddar, onion rings, jalapeños, special sauce, local artisan bacon, lettuce, and cheese filled pickled jalapeño
The house made milk bun is solid and holds everything together well, but I wish it had a little more flavour and wasn't so dry. The meat here is cooked medium rare, but it lacks juiciness and needs more seasoning, as it just tasted like plain beef and more like a filler. The toppings here stand out, but not particularly in the best way. The bacon is a bit too salty, the cheese, special sauce, lettuce, and jalapeños don't have much flavour, but the onion rings and cheese filled pickled jalapeño were good. All in all, a few tweaks to seasoning the ingredients could add much more taste to this burger.
See if you can handle The Fattay while it's still on.
Beef: 3.3
Bun: 3.3
Toppings: 3.3
Overall: 3.3/5
Late to this well loved party the cafe is great space with the 'place to be' feel. The burgers are substantial to say the least but still full of flavour and make for a satisfying mess on the journey to completion. Washed down with a vanilla milkshake I departed of a mind that my obsession with burgers may be over for a while.
Tasty burgers with plenty of fillings to choose from, jacks hungry is my favourite, accompanied by a milk shake can't beat it. Tried the donut burger out of curiosity .. Not really my this though

From the outside you would never picture a hipster burger joint within the walls, but that's exactly what we have here.
The Burgers are really good, combinations pretty creative and taste sensational. Desserts and milkshakes aren't to shabby either
We went two weekends in a row, that's how good the burgers and milkshakes were. First trip I had tofu burger and PBJ milkshake. Omg, I never thought tofu could taste this amazing, the miso sauce was unbelievable! As much as I enjoyed my order, I had massive food envy of what my husband ordered, hence the second trip the following weekend. This time I had exactly what he ordered before - soft shell crab burger with snickers milkshake. For some reason the staff forgot to add avocado in the burger and was pointed out by the owner after I had a few bites (the owner was sitting at a table right across from me with a friend, thus he noticed). The milkshake was like drinking a snickers bar, uncanny.
Apart from the food, the ambience was very relaxed and funky. The tables near the kitchen at the back were actually old school video game tables, how cool. The only negative was it could get quite noisy even inside the cafe from passing by traffic as its on a main road near the station.
Delicious Doughnuts! Try their Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel and Maple & Bacon! Perfect for Afternoon Tea! :D Miso Caramel Milk Shake is also not to be missed ;)
Absolutely pleased with their friendly and efficient customer service from the get go. I definately appreciate the rarity these days of restaurant staff asking you how your meal was and if we enjoyed it. Good old fashion manners goes a long way and Milk Bar pleasantly left a good first impression in my mind to revisit. Besides quick, friendly and helpful customer service - let's get straight into the FOOD! Their burgers are one of the BEST I've tried around Sydney. I tried the Cheeseburger Bacon Classic on its own & my other half had the meal with an additional basket of chips and any of their extensive variety of milk shakes. There were some unique flavours to try such as their bacon or green tea milkshakes, sounds absolutely ridiculous but surely for these guys, it would taste absolutely bonkers in a blow your mind good Kinda way! I initially thought the burgers would be a small serving after looking at some of the photos of previous diners but boy was I wrong. It took me a while to gobble up this delicious parcel. The meat was nicely charred and grilled and the bacon looked and tasted like all American bacon. Not your thick boring pork loin bacon predominantly served but unwanted everywhere in Australia because we are only talking about freaky 'Streaky' bacon. Absolutely crispy, salty but not overly salty melt in your mouth bacon goodness. The pattie was thick (thank you!), beefy and grilled perfectly to retain the right amount of juices and with an added taste and texture of barbeque from the chargrilled on the outside. These delights was sandwiched between two fresh soft pieces of milk buns and smothered generously with bbq sauce, mayonnaise, quality lettuce and a thick juicy slice of tomato. If you are a burger lover like me or thinking of endeavouring on a burger mission, then I highly recommended adding this to the bucket list. I'm not much of a fries fan, but Milk Bar does their fries different than most places and it's fabulous. Twice cooked thick home style fries and well Seasoned. Found my fingers sneaking for more with no self containment. Finally the milk shake tops it off as it is creamy, sweet, full of flavour and just heaven! Can't wait to come back next time to try all their other burgers and sides.. (Baconator burger.. Mac and cheese side..) ? Mmmmmm yummm
Now I was walking into Cafe Ish expecting there to be a tofu burger (that I’d seen on a copy of their menu online) but what I found was a new menu and something even better on it! There were two vegetarian burgers listed with names that really spoke to me:
The Bullshit Bacon Cheese Burger and The Bullshit Bacon Cheese Classic.
Death by donut. My mind was blown. It was so amazing! Cinnamon donut. 2x patties (a little too well done), cheese, sauce and mayo.
Korean fried chicken was okay and onion rings was mediocre. Didn't try any milkshakes :(. Definitely coming back!!
I had been looking forward to the ribs from Milk Bar since i read about them, unfortunately they were the worst dish, the burger was good and the wings were great, classic asian flavours with a nice crisp skin, the ribs were dry and over cooked but the owner was great about it and gave me a full refund and a couple of donuts, unfortunately never got the chance to go back and try them again.
I went with the Corny Hipster burger, a chickpea, sweetcorn and lemon myrtle pattie with banana ketchup and coriander relish and I selected the Banh Mi topping, a Vietnamese style slaw. It’s not big but boy does it pack a flavour punch!
DELIVERED from evil. The hangover from hell.
3 cheeseburgers, chips and a shake.
HOME DELIVERY OMG!
ordered online, didn't have to talk to anyone.
hangover cured...kinda...back to bed
Amazing!. Had breakfast here this morning with my partner and we both loved it! The burger was incredible and the milkshake was amazing! Staff were absolutely lovely and so was the owner. You guys are awesome! PS Your doughnuts are amazing!!
They are famous for their fusion/Japanese inspired dishes. Food like “miso salted caramel milkshake” and throwing in soft shell crab into a lot of their dishes, omelette, eggs Benedict…
I was talking to a buddy of mine a while ago about the weirdest couple names she’s ever heard of/used herself. She didn’t say anything too outlandish (wax candle was my favourite; who calls their significant other: ‘wax candle?). She then asked me the same question and I was stumped. Except for some weird lapses in the space time continuum, I’ve been solo for most of my life just like the lemon soft drink. So, I decided to give a couple name to one of my favourite foods: chocolate. I decided to affectionately call my chocolate a ‘milk bar.’ Speaking of milk bars, I went to Milk Bar by Cafe Ish for my company lunch on Friday. Located a short walk from Redfern Station, Milk Bar by Cafe Ish is a milk bar by the guys behind Cafe Ish. Heh sorry, I had to. Milk Bar’s signature calling card is it’s old school feel and interesting and incredibly affordable menu. I’m not old enough to have lived in a suburbia where milk bars were on every corner and I resent my parents for waiting as long as th
...had the CHUCK NORRIS; which was a super milkshake with pineapple flavours; passionfruit?. It came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint.
And another thing, the hospitality of the staff there is so great =). Josh was really nice, made jokes and shit, even posted a pic of us on his Twitter with a funny caption =P. Unfortunatley didnt get to play on the novelty PacMan table which is an EPIC idea, I'm so keen to go back!!
Such an apt introduction to a menu, it reflects the casual feel of this café, I think practically everyone who has researched Milk Bar or Café Ish would know about the history of these establishments and how they’re related, and that owners Josh and Ai are like celebrities in the blogosphere also known to mingle with bloggers. So I’ll skip that part and hand you some obvious but nevertheless, warranted advice.
This milkshake was so deliciously thick and rich with coconut macaroon ice cream, coconut milk and chocolate sauce. I wish it was served more cold though. Then it would've been perfect! It also came with the canister which had even more of the milkshake in it! Talk about excess :D And digging around the bottom, we were rewarded with big chunks of unblended chocolate. Yuuuuum. I was pretty full from sucking down most of this milkshake because it was just THAT rich!
