Actually one of the best burgers I have ever eaten!! I got the rose burger, and while the patty looked huge it balanced perfectly with the caramelised onion and pickle/lettuce. I was super impressed and very happy. My partners chicken Parma was apparently also great
Trivia night Tuesday is up and running at the Rose in Chippendale as we munch on the daily special before heading off to the theatre! Wow, baby! Step back in time! Used to play pool here back in the uni days but didn't spot a pool table (I'm sure there's one somewhere)....just a large crowd eating the daily special of Chicken Parmi for $11 with a salad on the side! If you spend over $20 you get a free drink, so I bought two mains and got a beer for my friend for free! Totally great value and the dinner was delicious and skilfully cooked! Download the app to stay in touch with daily deals.... they even have a vegan veg menu on Wednesday for $12! Suitably impressed! The Native Rose....you have blossomed!

The Rose Hotel is a great little pub in Chippendale. They have a front bar section with enough beer on tap to ensure that every hipster and craft beer lover will be able to grab a brew that will suit them. The back area is my favourite part - big long tables, it's own designated bar section with a huge selection of spirits and wines. The staff here are knowledgable and keen to discuss the drinks that they are pouring. They have an upstairs section for functions and a great whiskey happy hour throughout the week. Definitely put this on your list for an after work drink spot
My friend lived nearby and decided to have his birthday party in the Rose Hotel. From outside it looked just like any other suburban pub quite unassuming and ordinary. Even when we passed the front bar area it still appeared quite unimpressive. Then suddenly the pub opened to a large courtyard, half elevated undercover and half exposed. Following the staircases by the end of kitchen we ascended to upstair bars overlooking the courtyard. The upstairs bar was small but did have a few lounges on the balcony, where we found the birthday party. The pub was jam packed with young college looking "cool kids". I usually run away from places like that but there was some eccentrically exciting buzz about this pub. The vibe must have caught on us we had a great night there. The food looked damn good as well, I wished I hadn't had dinner. It is a pub I would most certainly re-visit and try the pizza.
The best bangers and mash I've ever had were from the Rose. Great beer garden out the back. And with pool tables, board games and an impressive range of tap beers it's all too easy to settle in.
Great little place for a drink; the outside area is fantastic to catch up over a meal. A real friendly dog is running around the place who is the bees knees. Also - there's a magician on Wednesdays which is the greatest thing ever.
I had the lamb pizza and it was a pretty big meal for one ( which was great because I was pretty hungry ). At $ 18 it wasn't cheap but was reasonable value. I'll be going back, maybe once a month. The service is excellent, too.
Excellent food and service - I've probably had all the pizzas on the menu, The Lamb is hands-down the best.
A bit loud but manageable most of the time, and it's a good distance from buses and trains for those late nights.
We arrived at the Rose Hotel looking for a good simple chicken parmi and were delighted to learn that it was the daily special. Initially, we had a pretty poor impression of this eatery as the bar was virtually empty. However, this changed as soon as we were directed to the beer garden and bistro. As soon as we arrived there, we noticed it was short-staffed and the place smelled of cigarette smoke, so, again, our opinion of the place was being radically changed.
When the waitress arrived to take our order, we felt that she seemed disinterested and disengaged but she was nevertheless not unpleasant. We kept our order sweet and simple so that she could return to rushing around and wait multiple tables by herself. (Indeed, what a strange sight.)
After about 20 minutes, our parmis arrived. Unlike other parmis we have had in the area and to our surprise, these ones in fact had ham and a decadently thick layer of cheese. Sadly, the chips were fried to the point of being not just crisp but hard and a pain to eat. The accompanying salad was notable in the presence of pitted olives, which impressed us. At $20 on any other night and $15 on Wednesdays, we thought the parmi was good bang for one's buck and worth giving a whirl for anyone in the area.
All in all, we would recommend the Rose Hotel to friends; however, there are of course areas for improvement and the forthcoming overhauled, "Slurp and Sip" (a $15 dinner meal and any house drink for $20) menu sounds promising but it remains to be seen whether or not that will be appreciated.
The crowd that swills about the pub is mainly of the schooner-sipping student-kind diluted with residents and workers that are out for a casual catch-up.
It's been a long time since I was a regular at the Rose. The decor is getting tired but the venue is still pleasant and the pizzas still provide one of the best thin crusts pizza in town. .., I'll be back
The atmosphere here is pretty good! We came here in a group and shared 2 pizzas and some wedges. The pizzas were generous and not too greasy, the wedges were pretty ordinary though. A good place to relax and catch up with friends, and very close to Sydney Uni as well.
Great food, great atmosphere. We came here for lunch one Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves. There's a proper beer garden, great selection of beers. The food is simple but well done.
I went there first time for a Christmas party organized by ASM Australian Society for Microbiology. This hotel is located very close to city and has 2 floors where you can relax and catch up with your friends. The function was good as I met with my colleagues. We had pizzas , beers and wine.
Great pub with a legendary beer garden! Burger dpecial Friday definitely makes it a solid Friday option. With a large selection of unique beers your pub craving will definitely be satisfied! 😄
Great food, best cocktails in chippendale hands down
Celebrated my son's 21st last night. Staff were brilliant, efficient, friendly and accommodating. Pizzas were delicious, great location and the venue has a great atmosphere This whole event was so stress free from booking to the end of the night. A big thank you to all the staff for making the night a great success.
Cute little local pub, great service, usually full with exuberant crowds (still room to get a table or seat!) and tons of fun beers and drinks on tap. The pizza is wonderful if you’re looking for a bite to eat as well.
The inside of the bar is so charming with beautiful frescos painted on the ceiling. There is a HUGE range of craft beer on tap that you can order by the jug. Great outdoor seating area and discount chicken parmis on a Tuesday night.
Great pub with a great collection of beers and ciders on tap. Great bar staff. Wonderful food selection in the Bistro. A great night out before going to the theatre a across the road.
