Great lunch venue for mid week. I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Lots of beers and co Lysol’s and is a pretty awesome venue to kick on through the night.
Nice place in #Sydney for a lunch in the middle of the city. It has a variety of cuisines. The food is tasty, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is friendly.
I dined here for lunch on a Friday with a colleague. Arrived at peak lunch time, we were lucky to grab a table so would suggest booking if you plan on dining with more than two people. The restaurant offers two different menus one with a more westernised/italian feel and the other with Asian inspired flavours. We were informed when ordering that food may come out at different times as the menus are run by two separate kitchens. (something to note especially if you're in a large group or in a rush). I had the pan fried gnocchi with pumpkin, onion puree and goats cheese. The flavour combo was delicious. I don't normally eat a lot of onion but the puree provided that extra level of flavour to the dish. The portion was quite generous. I enjoyed the meal and spotted some other menu items that I would like to try so I will be returning.
Great balance of indoor/outdoor seating in a relaxed space, perfect for business lunches. The menu is huge and really does have something for everyone.
This is located on level 1 at The Ivy on George Street. It shares the dining space with Sunee's Thai Canteen as well as you can select from either menu when eating here. It is a very open space and lots of light pouring in. Service isn't too bad but they were a bit distracted (chatting to each other) when we were trying to flag them down to pay the bill. Apart from that they were quite friendly.
We had the Braised Lamb Shank, Pan Roasted Corn Fed Chicken Supreme, and Pan Roasted Barramundi Fillet. The lamb was coming off the bone easily and had a nice topping of crispy sweet potato accompanied by creamy mash. The chicken was tender and not dry at all. It came with a lovely jus. The fish was well cooked and certainly the prettiest looking of the all the plates as it was sitting on a bed of mushy peas.
Overall not bad here at all but service could be sped up a bit and slightly more attentive.

This is a great casual restaurant and bar in the Ivy, perfect for an after work dinner with friends. We ordered the lamb skewers with yoghurt sauce, cherry tomatoes and pita bread and the fish of the day with zucchini, peas and mushrooms. The dishes were cooked well, though the place was a little loud to have a proper conversation.
Great place for a drink, bite and catch up with friends. I only tried the Thai menu but it didn't disappoint. They also have happy hour in the evenings so you can have a couple of pre-dinner drinks! Favourite was definitely the calamari.
Fantastic environment.... Lot of fun for all age levels. Good was great. Highlight was the grilled haloumi!! The panacotta was beautiful too. Only criticism was that the arincini balls had way too many fennel seeds. Unfortunately they were hard to eat.would definitely go back again though.
I like going to palings for a mid week lunch. Service is quick and I love that The Ivy Courtyard is transformed by day, it's somewhat nostalgic after having had many a night dancing my Arse off in the exact same spot I then had lunch.
They have a great mix of food on the menu so there's lots of pick from if you're not sure what you feel like.
It's my first review in Sydney zomato 😁yayyyy...so my sweet lead took the team for lunch here. Most of us ordered Thai and couple others tried the kangaroo. I loved mine 👌🏻 it was pad kapao gai Kai Dow. Pretty hard to pronounce but I just showed what I wanted. The veg rolls were good. Except for this the vegetarians didn't like the food. Thai green curry was good according to my friend.
Coming to ambience...it's a nice place to catch up with friends for a drink or lunch. The music was a tad loud though 🙉
Otherwise its a decent place with decent food 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I had the most amazing night here! I went for dinner with some friends for my birthday and the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Our beautiful waitress noticed that it was my birthday and kindly brought out a delicious self-saucing chocolate pudding, complete with a candle!

Service and food is good, great for lunch or weeknight dinner (its pretty quiet on a weeknight). Love that there's both a thai kitchen and western kitchen. Crab fried rice is my fav, lunch set menu was very good esp the arancini, salads are good but too small.

Palings is a great place to come to after a long day at work. It's situated inside the main bar area and gets transformed throughout the night.
I ordered the bug roll and the potato skins which was perfect! It was very delicious and such a simple dish to have with your beverage of choice :)
Not the best option for happy hour in CBD as you can only get $5 Heineken. But I still keep coming back for its bar snacks. For $12 you can get 6 large arancini balls and they are divine! Or for $16 you can get three skewers of satay chicken. Both are delicious and one of the best I've tried. Other bar snacks we tried were decent too, who'd have thought!
Don't discount the Thai @ Palings -was amazing!
Reasonably priced Thai food, good atmosphere and ambience! I had the chicken pad Thai with chilli flakes on the side - was scrumptious!
Do yourself a favour! This place is consistently good! Come here every time I am in Sydney. Have the Schnitzy with gingered slaw and bulldog sauce! Delicious! Staff are great too.

The latest evolution in the ivy open-air courtyard, Palings Kitchen and Bar, has seen the birth of an upmarket food-hall style of dining, serving everything from deli sandwiches, roasts and gourmet salads, through to fresh seafood and hearty fare from the grill.

Perfect place for an afternoon drink and dinner. Happy hour 5-7pm every weeknight is particularly appealing. Having said that we opted for a bottle.
The food options were broad and we both chose well. The fish of the day was delicious, as was the kangaroo dish. Above par.
Definitely keen to return to try the other options!
Came to palings for a long work lunch - it's such a great space during the day with gorgeous natural light. Ordering from the Thai canteen menu I opted for a chicken mince salad which was fresh and had just the right amount of chilli. Friends both ordered noodles dishes and I will definitely be back to order them - they tasted incredible. The waitresses were friendly and I look forward to returning.
Palings is a big airy space that provides lots of different seating options, from tables for two to areas that can accommodate large groups. They do a very good roast dinner and the service is generally pretty good.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here! The atmosphere was great, the food was great, the garlic bread was really good and my lamb shank was cooked perfectly and very flavoursome. My partners duck curry was also very good! Would definitely go back.
Perfect CBD casual work lunch venue. If it's just two or three of you don't book but get there early-ish to nab a table in the outdoor area. For larger groups, bookings and table service are necessary. You can order hipster salads and sandwiches, upmarket steaks or Thai food as they have two kitchens. So lots of choice too! My colleagues recently enjoyed the "lamb for two" dish and quite frankly it looked like enough for 3 or 4.
Great Thai food menu. Especially the red duck curry but slightly overpriced at $19. Great ambience on a sunny day and especially on a non Friday which is less packed. Carefully though when purchasing as they have a surcharge for all credit cards but they don't warn you or provide a receipt. Also make sure they don't charge you extra for rice as the curry is meant to come with rice already!
Always like going to Paling's for work lunch. Quick service and staff are helpful. Extensive menu that suit different tastes, but personally I always prefer the Thai menu. Great curry.
...Watercress, smoked trout, and coriander with soft egg, ricotta, toasted almond and pumpkin seeds..it was a lovely salad. The smoky texture of the trout was balanced by the freshness of the watercress. The pumpkin seeds and almonds were generously seeded through the bowl, adding a satisfying crunch to every bite. The pumpkin seed flavour was sharp and piercing, but not for everyone. The soft egg was a wonderful conclusion to the dish, runny and smooth.
As a post exam treat last semester, a friend and I ventured to Palings for lunch and a catch up, and discovered this hidden oasis! Food: The bar menu is kept nice and simple, with a few choice dishes, ranging from more casual to wholesome options. I ended up settling on the Cheese Toastie, with pyengana cheddar, leek confit, sourdough, endive and walnuts. The cheese was tasty and flavoursome, and the leek was fairly distinguishable, with the sourdough providing a nice crunchy texture that added to the dish and complemented the cheese. The side salad was also good, since it cut into the richness of the toastie and balanced the dish. I also had a bite of my friend’s dish, which was a Squid Roll with salt and pepper squid, radish, rocket and chilli aioli. It was a good, hearty serving, and the piece I tried was delicious, but a bit spicy, which I didn’t like. Serving “the food people love” must have been a pretty broad brief for head chef Christopher Whitehead but he has put together a big, crowd-pleasing menu. I was invited to dine at Palings to try the new menu and found lots of favourites to choose from.

My sandwich arrived with great anticipation. I had ordered The Deli ($14), a lovely combination of salami piccante, capocollo, salami finochetto, serrano jamon, radicchio, olive and provolone. I had been in an antipasto mood all day and this delicious sandwich of deli meats was perfect between two layers of crusty, soft buttered bread.

Palings Kitchen and Bar is the result of the transformation that has taken place on Level 1 of the Ivy. The indoor outdoor feel remains but its warmer and more homey. The good use of timber gives the whole place a less austere and more inviting feel.

To be honest, Ivy is one big cringe fest. It really is full of twats. But palings is the one area I enjoy eating/being. Lovely staff, great set up, yummy but quite overpriced. I enjoy the vibe.
Great variety and venue. Palings has such vibrancy now it has been redesigned. Love the decor and outdoor seating for lunch. The menu is fantastic as well as there is so much to choose from. The thai food is great as are teh sandwiches and other dishes. Reasonably priced and great for a work lunch or dinner.
Great place to soak up some sun during your lunchbreak, make sure to book ahead as it gets busy. Food has been great everytime I come here. One thing I would like to recommend is maybe adding a side of salad or fries to your sandwiches & rolls.
Urban Oasis. I had to see the new venue in the city from Merivale and was pleasantly surprised. It felt like I was in a country homestead (in a good way) as it was a relaxed vibe and non pretentious. I can't believe a venue of this caliber has a $5 happy hour, bargain! I went into the restaurant at the back and was greeted by an affable and very tanned (for this time of year) gent who set the tone for my night recommending I order the rib eye which seemed like good value at $34 for 400 grams and it was well worth it. I had to order the rhubarb pie as you don't see it at many places anymore and it was bang on. Love the indoor/outdoor feel.
Had lunch here today and loved it. Great food, great prices, helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommend the watermelon, summer squash, feta & pistachio salad and all the desserts from Lorraine's!

Paling's- a lunch time must.. Merivale seem to be able to do no wrong. Backing up the success of their summer pop up bar and restaurant at the Opera House, they launched Palings Kitchen & Bar on level 1 of the Ivy complex to replace Mad Cow. The place is enormous, taking over all of the first floor (yep, the same floor which house’s Pacha every Saturday night), with the open space and streams of sunlight creating a relaxed and casual atmosphere. The décor is simple- rounded high bar tables, long timber picnic-style benches and smaller group tables. The entirety of the venue is designed to be laid-back and provide restaurant goers with a community like environment.
Adding to the vibe is the delicious food, and with such an array to choose from, you’ll keep going back to sample more dishes. The ‘Deli’ part of the menu is simple, relatively light and incredibly tasty, whilst the mains, grill and seafood all provide options for something more substantial. My favourite is ‘The Deli’ sandwich as the flavours of the salami’s and the radicchio are the perfect combination for that thick cut fresh bread that had been doused in butter. If possible, go as a group, or on a work ‘team bonding lunch’ (the best bonding is done over food and wine after all!) and sample a whole heap of the dishes. Share, taste and enjoy- you cannot go wrong.
Oh and dessert! This is one thing you cannot go past. On your way down the walkway towards Palings, one cannot help but note that Lorraine’s Patisserie has come to Ivy. Well, it’s come with the offer of providing Paling’s with a dessert menu. A must try is the Petit Croquembouche which is exactly what it sounds like- a mini croqeumbouche of custard filled puffs drizzled in toffee. Feel free to drool away. However, whatever you choose from that part of the menu, you know you will not be disappointed or suffer from food envy.
Overall, I really enjoyed Palings. Everything from the food to the atmosphere- it is exactly what Ivy needed to reinvigorate it. It is the perfect place for a boozy work lunch or a casual meeting, and somewhere you’ll be visiting time and time again as a fail-safe option.
Give it ago!. New ivy revamp is different - decore is much more relaxed and nothing like the old highly styled ivy. But we weren't there for the decor - we were there for the food! The chesse tastie and Lorrain's strawberry mascarpone are to die for. I also ordered some snacks from the thai menu and highly recommend the prawn spring rolls and crab fried rice. Most pleasing thing was the price - after hearing about "how expensive ivy is" they've definitely got it right with this revamp with alot of meals under $20 and a great place to have a drink in the arvo. Loved it!
Enjoyed a great lunch here. The slow cooked pork was absolutely delicious. Expensive, but worth the money. Setting is quite nice, very casual. Service, didn't get to sit in the restaurant area, so had the bar service, but they still brought the food to your table.
Great vibe at lunch time, great quality Thai food. Sunlight penetrates through the building nicely. Great layout.
A fun and funky place for leaving do’s, after work drinks or pre-theatre nibbles. Very much a young person’s place – that said we didn’t feel at all out of place when we had drinks here for some friends leaving do. Noisy a bit but then it does cater for hundreds of people across several different concessions inside the building.
This is a good casual city bar, best on a warm night, popular for after work drinks but also most suitable for relaxed unpretentious dining. Friendly and efficient bar staff and also table service. Plenty of drink choices and food menu has range of options for decent meal or just grazing. Ordered their 300gram steak and was most impressed, perfectly cooked to order and a quality cut of flavoursome tender meat. Will return.
