I was surprised to find out I haven’t blogged Madame Nhu’s before. Like it’s sister restaurant Xage on Crown Street, which has now become an Asian fusion pasta bar, it’s been around for a long time, making dependably delicious Vietnamese food. If I’m alone, I’d go for the pho, but it was good to be out with a friend this particular evening, and split a serve of their delicious summer rolls, partake in their steamed chicken, and we also had an interesting dish, not pictured, with beef and crispy sweet potatoes.
I loved Madame Nhu. As I approached, from the street on a wet night, it looked warm and welcoming. The decor is relaxed and inviting. The staff all smiles. I was on my own and seated at a comfy spot in the lower dining area. The place was buzzing, service was fast and always with a smile. I had the vermicelli salad with veggie spring rolls and a glass of house white. The salad was packed with flavour, the herbs looked and tasted like they’d just been picked. The net spring rolls hot, crunchy and super tasty. I’d like to up the veggies and reduce the noodles but not a big deal. Everyone looked to be enjoying their meals. I’ll return when I’m back in Sydney. Go there !
I have never eaten a better pho before. Everything were so delicious. The staff was helpful and lovely. I wish I was living in Sydney. I would go there every week.
Came here on a weekday night and omg it was still packed. At first I walked in with 3 friends and thought this restaurant was bit too small but it wasn’t actually bad. Waiters are very careful when they walk pass each table so they don’t bump into any customers. Food came out very fast even though the restaurant was full.
Would definitely come back.
Definitely a tastey broth!

This place deserves a return visit. Thanks for reading
This beef pho Saigon style is the bomb.com!
Beef broth was tasty, yummy and very addictive, perfect for lunch on cold Sydney day!
I choose no 23 from the menu, beef portion was generous and serving just right, not too small nor too big!
The side dish to accompanied this pho was fresh been sprouts and some Vietnamese basil leaves, wedge of lemon and green chilli.
All this condiment was goes well and basil leaves bring some more aromatic fragrance to the soup.
Place was packed during lunch time, service was quick and friendly!
This is one of those places that not only serve delicious pho but also have a cozy ambience to share a red wine with one’s friends. The staff is just lovely and their pho “collection” is full of variety. Spice level can be altered per request and the restaurant by corner has two floors for seating. It’s usually crowded during lunchtime due to offices nearby but early dinner serves as a nice night out.
Dined at Madame Nhu on a Sunday night and after a big weekend we were looking for a light and healthy dinner! Half of the restaurant was shut off with only the downstairs operating but still a fun, intimate setting! We shared fresh summer prawn rolls, banh mi chicken slider and spicy pho vegetarian option with added tofu (and asked for not too spicy). Without a doubt, the standout dish was the pho! So warming on a cold night and possibly enough for 2 to share easily! Madame Nhu has been feeding Sydneysiders since 2007 and it is easy to see why this place is so popular!
Delicious, fresh and great variety. Madame Nhu is a bustling hub of life as you walk through the front door. We ordered the prawn rice rolls, lotus stem salad and slow cooked chicken with ginger rice. Would’ve been nicer if the lotus stem salad had more lotus stem, otherwise the ginger rice was the high light!
Absolutely love their pho here. I wish they delivered! It’s a very savoury tasting broth which I love, not too sweet. The spicy one I am yet to try but it looks awesome too
Comfort food, I normally had Pho at Bankstown, Flemington area. Hiding in a quite Street in Surrey Hills surprising good quality! Will come back try other dishes next time !
A pleasant find. Lovely ambience at dinner on a quiet Monday night. Delicious chicken and beef noodle salads at very reasonable prices. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
This is a really nice Vietnamese spot for drinks and pho. I had the signature pho with grass fed beef 3 ways and pho with pork crackling which was more spicy but both were delicious. The fried chicken was also great (crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside). And if you pay with cash, they give you a 5% discount.
This place has a great atmosphere and the staff were really efficient in getting us seated and taking our order.
We had the chicken pho and the spring roll main. It all felt very healthy! The pho was a much better dish overall. The portion size is pretty huge, I’m sure a pho could feed 2 for lunch.
We also had the pineapple and passion fruit juice which was delicious, with fresh mint and lemon in.
I’m sure we’ll be back there in the future for more pho!
It's pretty funky and cool Vietnamese place where you can have a nice Pho or Vermicelli salad! The layout of the shop is like a normal cafe. This place is pretty busy during the weekdays as a lot of people working around this area come for a quick bite.
Well, I order on foodora for take away in madame nhu. The package is really thoughtful, every package is labeled with their names.
I ordered mixed summer roll and signature pho. They are both tasty. I recommend this restaurant for those who like Vietnamese.
Madame Nhu offers the best food court lunches I have ever had and their flagship restaurant in Surry Hills brings Vietnamese street food brilliance into a wonderful modernised venue. You can’t go wrong with Vietnamese food and Madame Nhu knows how to make it some of the best.
Clickety click for full review and have a great week of feasting :).
Really enjoyed this place. It has a quirky interior and is not too busy. We ordered the signature beef pho and the big bowl main. The pho was amazing, the broth was the best part and it had nice meat in it not anything dodgy. The big bowl had a mix of things: spring rolls, fish balls, duck, vermicelli noodle etc. I think this was probably my favorite meal, the duck was fantastic! For my drink I had the iced coffee/condensed milk cocktail which was quite heavy. It didn't really go with the food but it was nice on its own. Will be back!
Ordered the spicy beef pho and the spring rolls. Pho was simply amazing. The rolls were alright. It got pretty hot because of the sunlight coming in.
The beef noodles were absolutely divine! The broth was really tasty and flavourful. We ordered the spring rolls and it didn't disappoint! Casual yet nice ambience for a chilled night out.
Best pho I have ever had. Got the duck pho - and unlike other duck dishes is wasn't just all bone, yes there was some actual meat!!
A must for all!
Went here last night for dinner with 4 friends, the service was great- super efficient and friendly. Wine menu is pretty limited, so go for a cocktail or beer. We tried the mixed rice paper rolls($12.50) which included lemongrass pork, duck and prawn, the duck and prawn were tasty but I felt the pork one was underwhelming as was pork mince. I would skip these next time as they are super small. Then we got the spicy beef pho($16.9)- best dish in the entire restaurant! Blown away by the tasty broth, tender beef and extras on the side to add in, think crispy pork crackling, cabbage, bean sprouts. Its not spicy but comes with hot sauce. We also got a side of the rice cooked in ginger chicken broth which was super tasty- if you have ever tried hainan chicken on rice and wonder why it tastes so good then this is why! Share the pho between two and get a few starters as the pho is huge!!! Will be back for pho- sure!
Amazing Pho - the best in Sydney. Their rice paper rolls are beautiful and light, it's definitely my favourite Vietnamese venue in the city. Their in-house white wine is also great for the price! Great service, very fast.
A tiny hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant around corner from Nomad. I visited twice and both times ordered the same dishes - beef pho and a stir fried chicken dish. They were both marvellous. You do pay a bit more for pho than in the city but that's just Surry Hills price tag for you. In return you get better ambience and services. Staff were very friendly and dining atmosphere was better than the dingy restaurants in Chinatown.
This is a great little spot with good food and friendly service. There's not much to be said that hasn't already been said, but the beef pho had good flavour and generous ingredients. All dishes we tasted were fresh, however the consensus at the table was that the chicken pho was a little bland. Particularly considering it had tasted better in the past, so I'm not sure what happened there.
The menu selection is very solid and the prices are good for Surry Hills but not not spectacular if you're accustomed to Marrickville or Cabramatta pho prices.
Oh be sure to check out the cocktail list also which is quite impressive!
My partner and I love eating at Madame Nhu's. We always have the pickle, which is slightly different every time, but never disappoints. It just keeps getting better.!
& my favourite dish on the menu is the Squid salad, the ginger rice is also really good with big pungent chunks of ginger still in there. It packs a punch mmm mm.
Easy fast dinner with pleasant service and great fresh, healthy food.
They also serve Pho, which I am yet to try. Next time...
Look I've had pho for 99c in Vietnam and the Indian in me is ruined because nothing tastes as good as good value but this is a funky little upmarket Vietnamese joint in foodie hipster town (no not Melbourne). It's tiny with wooden seats and tin cans as chopstick holder so you get the vibe. I got the spicy pho. I can't handle spice so the amount was perfect. I also had the Vietnamese coffee because I feel like all coffee should come with condensed milk and allow me to see through time. Great place to go eat, be a foodie and be satisfied

This is a fantastic hidden gem in Surry hills, the restaurant is very small and intimate, with low neon lighting.
The service is fast and efficient, the staff know their menu. I had the rump steak pho and the passionfruit, mint and lemon soda.
The pho broth was strong and flavourful, the rump steak fresh and easy to chew. There wasn't enough chilli in the little side plate given but that's easy to fix. The rice noodles were not soggy but there wasn't a lot of noodles in the actual meal.
I still really enjoyed the flavour given by the broth which I heard is prepared in a special way and the soda was so refreshing !
All in all I really like this place :)
Sister date night took us to Madame Nhu in Surry hills. Had this one bookmarked on zomato because of their good reviews and ratings and craving viet it was an easy decision.
Firstly the resturants is just so pretty. Dimly lit and with nature features covering the ceiling it was very tranquil and had a great energy.
It was very busy and full but we where seated straight away at a bar table near the kitchen. Menus where given to us right away but being prepared foodies we already had our food picked ☺
I ordered the steamed chicken and subbed the rice for steamed veggies and my sister had the beef pho and passionfruit soda.
The food came fairly quickly. The flavours were great. Herbs.. spices and texture all on point. The sizes where perfect. And the prices reasonable $40 for 2 people.
Staff were very friendly and professional.
Will definitely be back to this place for my surrey hills viet cravings ☺

One word..... WOW !!!
Absolutely sensational Pho and sides, service was amazing; friendly and fast.
Prices are extremely reasonable and value for money
One of my favourite Vietnamese. I swear I must have been Vietnamese in my precious life. Pho is probably one of my favourite foods and I eat it often. And this is one of my 'go to' places for pho. I love the thick cut Tasmanian brisket version which is different from the typical rare beef version you see everywhere else. Comes in a broth that has a depth that is lacking in so many other places. Delicious!
A winter dinner catch-up with my sister called for Pho. Good opportunity to finally try Madame Nhu. The Surry Hills shop is small and cosy, and service is efficient in order to keep tables turning. We tried the Phở nạm beef with tender thick-cut Tasmanian grass-fed brisket. I ordered mine without noodles, and it came with veggies instead. Yes, price is higher than average but quality is great.
The ambience was great for a couple coming for lunch. Nice cozy warm feeling to the restaurant. The food good but westernised the only downfall would be the serving size with the meats provided in the dish.
The Beef Brisket Pho is quite nice however the portion size you get for what you pay is on the smaller size. The broth is quite flavoursome and you get the usual accompaniment of chillies, lemon, mint, bean sprouts to add in to your liking. The smell of the pho is so strong that when you leave the smell will transfer onto you! The interior is quite beautiful and the fairy lights are a nice touch.

We came here on a rainy cold Winter’s night so it was fitting to order a bowl of pho each. I think the weather may have deterred the crowd a little, so it wasn’t as busy as it usually is. But there were still a good stream of people coming and going to this little corner establishment.
We were a little disappointed to be told the entree chicken wings were sold out. But found it a little strange considering the restaurant had only opened about 1 and a half hours before we arrived.
So we ordered the nem nướng grilled chicken skewers, grilled pork baby banh mi, their signature đặc biệt phở, and phở of roasted duck.
I had the signature đặc biệt phở and the thick cuts of beef were absolutely soft and delicious! Next time I’ll order a whole bowl! My noodles were generous and silky. Enjoyable to eat! However, the roast duck pho had minimal noodles and were struggling to find any in the bowl.
The nem nướng was tasty, but the pork banh mi was a bit of a let down. It was truly tiny and expensive for the size, and although the bread roll was nice, it kind of ended there.
It was a little difficult flagging someone down to take our order at first. But the rest of the night was pleasant, the staff were efficient and really friendly.
Must haves // signature đặc biệt phở
Also try // nem nướng grilled chicken skewers
Next to try // phở nạm beef with tender thick-cut Tasmanian grass-fed brisket, Madame's fried chicken

Good food. Pho is unreal. But serious rising damp issue recently means not a nice as once was. Would go back but wouldn't take friends or clients.
#kningjaeats classic Vietnamese dishes. Pickle your appetite with Vietnamese flavours at the small corner restaurant and decorated with a magical interior in fairy lights of course. Refresh your palette with traditional Vietnamese flavours whether it be rice paper rolls, vermicelli salad or warm bowl of pho.
Fantastic vibe, small place with excellent fresh food and cocktails. Staff friendly, overall a brilliant experience.
Madame Nhu is an upmarket Vietnamese restaurant with a great range of mainly Vietnamese style street food along with some outstanding pho. They offer some of the best Vietnamese food at reasonable prices close to the CBD. The dimly lit restaurant interior is small with a number of tables and stools scattered around. While the interior is modern and clean it maintains certain elements which add an authentic feel to this modern Vietnamese eatery. Interior well stocked bar Since it was a cold night we decided to try the pho and opted for the Signature đặc biệt phở, grass-fed beef prepared three ways ($15.90). The broth was addictive and had a well defined flavour. The range of subtle spices which are added to the 8 hour broth adds a nice element of flavour to the tender thick-c
If you follow me on instagram, you have probably realised I’ve been to Madame Nhu quite a few times… I LOVE IT THERE!! The first time I visited was very soon after I returned from a holiday in Vietnam…I was missing the food, and their Vietnamese drip coffee…my friends and I heard of Madame Nhu and decided to try…I was impressed!! From then on, I returned many times, trying all their different dishes, from their pho, to hainan chicken rice and vermicelli salad…all AMAZING…and I must finish off my meal with their vietnamese coffee … Their food, especially pho, is very different from an original authentic Vietnamese restaurant from like Cabramatta…it’s definately more quality in the ingredients, and tastes slightly different and rich…You know as soon as you put the food in your mouth, you are eating good quality stuff! Apart from the food there, it’s perfect place to just chill on the weekend or even for drinks after work…they have sooooo many varie
There is already a Madame Nhu located in The Galeries that is very popular with Sydneysiders, the difference between the two restaurants is that the more recently opened one in Surry Hills is open everyday for dinner until 10pm and the menu also differs slightly. Decor is modern and ambience is relaxed, lighting is low and dimly lit with tea-light candles giving off a romantic low-key vibe.
Sister restaurants to Xage on Crown Street, Madame Nhu recently opened in Surry Hills also featuring delicious Vietnamese food. We’ve been a few times now and haven’t had a dish we didn’t like.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Flavorful food and fresh. I would definitely pho back
Pho Sure. If you are after a quick bowl of pho made with fresh ingredients look no further. The Spicy chicken is a winner and the pho stock is delicious!
Friend & Pho. Best Pho in Sydney, great service, pork sausage was incredible. Solid 10/10 for Pho.
Great place, lighting a bit dark. Went here for dinner, and ordered MFC (Madame's Fried Chicken) and my SO ordered spicy pho. He enjoyed his pho (although mentioned it wasn't enough for him). The fried chicken was crunchy, soft and great - wasn't oily at all, and I didn't feel really unhealthy after I finished it. Atmosphere was good, but the lighting was a bit dark, which bugged me a little. Otherwise was a great place :)
The food is simply delicious service great..... Will b rushing back..... Great value!!!!!
This place is great, fabulous food (crispy spring rolls and calamari are a must!) and friendly, attentive service. Can't wait to go back!
Little hidden gem. Found this little place by accident. And what a find!! We went back 2 days later to try more of the menu. Very fast, very yummy. Bustling with people, noise and aromas. Highly recommend for a quick delicious meal!
What a find! A Vietnamese oasis amongst so many greasy spoon Vietnamese/Thai/noodle anonymous wannabes. The duck salad was fragrant and delicious; the prawn papaya salad had more than a handful of prawns and flavours to please the palate. It is pretty, super clean, with lovely service and a small but satisfying wine list. Delightful

Loved the slow cooked chicken with the ginger rice. Very reasonably priced. Make sure you book if you want a table for dinner. Becoming really popular. Nice service too!
Delicious. Fresh. Super friendly staff. Licenced. Well priced. The salt and pepper squid is the best ever! Love love love it.
Beautiful aroma. Went back to Madame Nhu for a second time on Thursday with a girlfriend and had a lovely evening. Such a pretty little authentic Vietnamese with delicious fresh decent-sized portions, adorable waiters and good value for money.
Simple bar stool wooden table set up and cute fairy lights.
Go for the summer rolls, squid papaya salad or noodle soup.
Chicken skewers are a little odd as more fried balls.
Good for date night or healthy dinner with the girls.
This was the best Vietnamese food I've had outside of Vietnam. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Loved this place. Took a recommendation from a friend, and walked in, and immediately loved it. Small, full of charm, everyone looking happy and chatting, but the aroma almost made me faint. The smells of cooking Pho broth's from the kitchen was just incredible. I know that is a funny thing to note, but this restaurant smells so good. That being said, we were just there for cocktails and maybe a small plate or two, and my dining partner said screw it, we need to order pho. We ordered the duck spring rolls, which were outstanding, and then I ordered the fried chicken, and it was shockingly good. Crisp, spicy, not the least bit greasy, and came with a wonderful array of pickled veggies to cut the fat. I tasted the Pho, and as much as I loved the fried chicken, I went back the very next day for lunch, just so I could have my own bowl of Pho. THe servers were very sweet and unobtrusive as well. Very fun, very tasty, I loved this place.
Got the three way beef pho. Was very nice. Decor has been done before but the place is extremely clean! Imagine combining misschu and an Vietnamese version of el loco and sprucing things up. There was chic/lounge music playing during weekday lunch though which was a bit weird.
It was such a lovely delicious dinner.
Beef curry excellent.
Crispy Chicken really good!
Service was fun. Girls were not so busy as it was a very quiet night so we felt like Royalty..
Thank you Madame Nhu
THANK YOU for this AMAZING LUNCH!!!
We both had the signature pho, I choose the spicy version. The meat was super good and the broth was tasty and not too salty! We loved every single bite of it.
The service was perfect and polite.
We also took a coconut juice which was very tasty and made for a good desert.
Amazing food, amazing service, real value for money! These guys deserve a tip!!!!
You get more for what you pay for. You can’t go wrong with a delicious Pho and Madame Nhu knows just how to make your tastebuds happy!
