The waiter here was one of the friendliest and most helpful I’ve ever encountered!! Wow!!! Customer service at its finest. He recommended additions to our order, explained the dishes to us and clarified what was vegetarian, and even brought me a free drink after I expressed regret about not ordering one! I seriously loved this guy, this alone was enough for me to return.
The food was also awesome. An entire two pages dedicated to vegetarian dishes, including an excellent veg version of mapo tofu.
I can’t wait to go back!!!
Long-standing Taiwanese restaurant offering a long list of traditional Taiwanese breakfast and lunch/dinner classics. If you've been to Taiwan you'll be familiar with many dishes and Mother Chu's does a decent job replicating comfort food in Australia. If not, you can still expect great food at affordable prices.
Service can vary depending on who serves you, but generally is fine.
This is 4th time dining at Mother Chu’s, late in the evening, I decided to stop by for a bowl of my favourite Taiwanese style oyster noodle thick soup. Friendly staffs with a friendly smile, even when the places is busy. Never disappoint, if you miss travelling to Taiwan or looking for an authentic Taiwanese snacks, meal, drinks or dessert, this is the place to be. Recommend to give it a try! Good price too! Easy to find, is located right on Dixon street (Chinatown) closer to the paddy’s market entrance.
Delicious Taiwanese snacks in the heart of Sydney city. The owner/manager is the third generation of this place (Mother Chu is his grandma) was very friendly and polite. Even though he was quite busy with taking orders, cooking in the kitchen and serving food to customers, he didn’t forget to come say hello and ask about the food. 5 stars for service obviously! I was amazed with all of the items, especially the pancakes, dumplings and noodles - great taste and quite unique. All of their foods are generously portioned without compromising the flavours. The pork rice was flavourful and packed with spices. Lovely experience overall and had come back several times for more. Thank you 😊 Note there is a 1.5% surcharge for card payments.
P.s: I had the chances to try some of their vegetarian dishes and they were good as well. Especially the vegetarian stir fried noodles and mapo tofu.
This place is an institution! Been around for decades! Still same stuff from when I was back at uni over 2 decades ago. Prices still affordable, decor much nicer now and more spacious. Can't wait to come back for more!
Been here a few times on a Saturday morning. Very busy, but managed to get a seat immediately and service was quick. The food is tasty, can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The youtiao is fried fresh (near impossible to find in Sydney), I recommend trying it with soy sauce. Kudos to the frontman for 11/10 energy and service.
Best Taiwanese food in town. I had the absolute pleasure to dine here and enjoyed authentic Taiwanese food. Service was amazing and brings me back to Taiwan. I would highly recommend anyone craving Taiwanese food to come and kick back to enjoy their wonderful collection of beers.
The food I had:
1) Warm soya milk which had the fragrant taste of roasted soy beans.
2) Taiwanese vermicelli with fresh oysters. Add some Taiwanese vinegar and white pepper for extra flavour and that slight kick.
3) Pork and Century egg congee. Very good texture and flavours.
4) Cong You Bing with egg and you tiao. Not overly oily with good flavours. You tiao was very crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.
