Review Bang - Sydney

Sarah charles (Thewhereto)
Bang! That's a cool name for a restaurant - kind of appropriate for a Bangladeshi restaurant, just the first four letters of its national origin. Wonder if this way of naming a restaurant could apply to other types of cusine, I guess it could, but maybe not quite as good. Anyway, this place has been doing its thing in Surry Hills for a while now and we were surprised we’ve never heard of it, nor crossed its path until now. It is know for Bangladeshi street food. Strolling the streets of Surry Hills the restaurant is kinda unassuming, for a name like Bang, they could do with some signage that has some Bang, and some Neon could work. Once inside, you'd be hard pressed guessing this is a Bangladeshi street food restaurant, the place looks more like a fine dining restaurant, it was quite refined, with a suave modern feel. Much like their take on Bangladeshi street food, the menu items, although street food inspired, were refined. With technique and quality presentation. This place also had an exciting wine list that, with some excellent wine from Portugal that paired nicely with the food on offer. Can't say we have visited many restaurants serving Portugese wine. The food at Bang was extremely tasty, not too heavy and not too much spice, just enough to hit your taste buds with a flavoursome spice kick. Upon viewing the menu it was noticed that there was a starter of peanuts for $2 and that all proceeds donated to the Fred Hollow's Foundation. Great to see a restaurant giving back and we happily obliged. Upon further viewing of the menu, the honey roasted paneer instantly stood out as a dish to order and that instinct proving correct, as it was an excellent option. The soft shell crab was another top option with the spicy chilli achar providing that flavoursome bang along with some welcomed sweetness. There were many hits amongst the starters, the briyani arancini another quality option. The Tandoori Lamb cutlets are a must, they were perfectly cooked, the spice and herbs combining for some more bang and amazing flavour. We love a good Korma and the oven roasted, spiced duck was the pick of the mains. The meat perfectly prepared very enjoyable dipped in that rich sweetness of the korma. This was excellent dining experience with tasty food and equally tasty wine and good service. It was enjoyed in a nice setting with great company where_do_i_eat_pete and eatwithmyfoodsafari. Thanks to Pete, who is brand ambassador for Eat Club which allowed for a good discount on our meal, check it out!

Superb service, taste, and atmosphere. Don't overorder - we could barely finish three plates!! Sooooo delicous. The lamb cutlets were some of the sweetest and most fragrant meals I've eaten. The kebab had the tenderest meat (although not a lot of it). Beware the succulent soft shell crab.... that's chilli it's sitting in!!! 😁

Authentic Bangladeshi food? Not under any stretch of imagination. I have read all the google reviews of the people that hail from Southeast Asia and no one seems to have given it 5 stars. Admittedly, you have to adjust your expectations when you visit a restaurant that serves a fusion (I omit the word 'modernised') version of your own cuisine in the middle of Surry Hills, but this has gone a little too far. But perhaps when you overhear conversations from next table with people wondering where Bangladesh is, you wonder that after all, this restaurant is not all that out of place, however out of sync it may be with its claimed origins.

Great atmosphere. Love the food. You always surprise me with your innovative menu ideas, yummy traditional food with a twist! I must say the biriyani arancini balls were delicious! It has to stay!

Visited for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was empty and staff seemed shocked to see a customer. The waitress then (inadvertantly) shamed me for dining on my own, saying that the menu is designed for at least two people to share. Nice start, I need a drink! I ordered the cocktail Dhaka Attacker: no can do, we're out of eggs; I then ordered an Aperol Spritz: sorry, we've run out of Aperol. Third time lucky, I got my stiff drink. I ordered the grilled paneer and the head chef chatted with me about the origins of the house cocktails and Bengali food. He was the highlight of my visit and was lovely to talk to. The meal was delicious and so different from the usual curry dishes on offer at most South Asian restaurants. Coming in at $39, the paneer dish and cocktail were very good value. Also very filling as paneer has a high protein content. Despite the early glitches with the waitress, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Wanted to try his for a while...finally went. The food and service and great. Thought would be more spice and stronger flavours. Staff friendly and efficient. Good for groups.

It was delicious. We followed the recommendations of the waiter and it was very good. We had soft crab shell, potato mash balls, a salad, lamb and goat curry to pay approx 75$/ person with 2 drinks each. The overall place and ambience is great. A place to return 👌

Good ambience and helpful staff, I liked the feel of the place, trendy and well thought out with interesting menu options. However I was disappointed with the food itself - the entrées were okay though not the best I've had. Others were underwhelming, the calamari was tender but a strange flavour combination, the fish curry had lots of bones and only 1 prawn and the wine options were a little strange on the palette

Just across the street from Bang Street Food, Bill’s has moved a few doors down into a new spot (most recently a pop-up restaurant specialising in dishes with avocado, and much longer back than that, the famous Marque restaurant), a new Italian place is due to go into the space that Bill’s vacated, and Flour Eggs and Water seems to be doing well where Besser used to be, which was once, in the mists of time, Billy Kwong’s.

After a false start when we booked here last time, we managed to get in this time and were greeted with wafts of aromatic smells and knew we’d be in for a good meal. The service was friendly and attentive making sure you were attended to. It is a smallish area with a few communal tables but quite cosy.

We opted away from having the banquet as we wanted to select what we wanted and this worked out well for us. The highlights of our Bangladeshi meal were Biryani Arancini which were crunchy balls of deliciousness. Filled with lamb and rice, this was a great fusion dish. The Honey Roasted Paneer had a fantastic sweet sauce surrounding the cheese. The Oven Roasted Spice Duck came with a very tasty korma sauce. Loved lapping up the sauce with the rice. None of the food is too spicy which suited my palate just fine.

If you’ve never tried Bangladeshi food, it is definitely well worthwhile trying this restaurant. Thewhereto

A bit hit and miss. Some dishes were really nice while others were disappointing. For example the meat in the goat curry was tough. One of the waiters was quite pushy while another one managed to knock a drink all over our table. Not good value for money.

Our experience at Bang was for the most part enjoyable. The food was excellent yet the non-main dishes were a bit costly for what were small portions. You are better off getting two mains with rice or a naan. The service staff could use a few tips based on our experience. For example returning to a table after someone has ordered wine, a main to share and entrees and essentially demanding they order more food with a ‘Only feeling a bit peckish today are we?’ condescending remark does not rate highly. Rice and the naan are ordered separately under the section: ‘delusional’ where boiled rice and a single naan bread cost seven dollars each. The waitress whose first day it was nice and a pleasure o have serving us.

This is the slowest service for fast "street food" I have ever experienced. Seriously Don't bother if you are hungry.
Their waiters are also rude, timid and don't seem to have confidence about what they are doing.
We paid for a set menu and the amount of food we got was not satisfactory, and also came out so slow. We also had some dietary requirements on the table, but the food that person got as substitute for one meal only, even though he couldn't eat three meals due to them having the ingredients he couldn't eat.
They also sent us the wrong beverage, because the waitress heard it wrong, then refused to change even though it had alcohol and we didn't want alcohol.
So disappointed! It really ruined the night and put a bad taste in our mouths.
We will not come back.
Oh, and I also came here the first week it opened some years ago and it was the same style of service (slow, small food portions)... I returned this time hoping that would have improved... They didn't. What a shame.
Don't Believe The Hype
Very very disappointing. We were a big group who got the 'bang for your buck' banquet=$65 a head
- Service was terrible - Food took over 2hrs, they got drink order wrong and wouldnt fix it because we had started drinking it!!
- One person lactose intolerant and they replaced 3 dishes of banquet with one salad
-Food portions were tiny. Most of us left hungry despite spending $65
- only positive was tandoori lamb cutlets were super tasty but we only got one each......

I'm a little unsure how to rate this place
It's something different,I'll give them that.
We tried the kale bhaji,it's just batter. The honey glazed paneer, the smell of honey is evident but not much with the taste. The lamb cutlets, like the spices but it's a little burnt, the naan was a bit burnt too. The rice was soft and fluffy,I liked it. The goat curry, even the people sitting next to us had heard of how good it is. My missus liked it,she said the lamb was nice and tender. I wasn't that impressed,I felt like I've had these flavours before
The coconut lassi,my missus didn't like it but the more I had,the more I liked it. It it's not for everyone
Overall it's ok but I think my huge expectations of the goat curry didn't help

ow! Was absolutely blown away last night. This restaurant sure does live up to its reputation. The dishes chosen last night were fresh, exotic, punchy and packed with true traditional Bangladeshi armours. Each dish was perfectly presented and looked almost to good to eat. The menu is based on share plates so all the more reason to delve into the fabulous dishes created by head chef Tapos.
The dishes we decided to go for were:
➡️BANG Bhaji
➡️Fuska
➡️BANG boti kebab
➡️Tandoori lamb cutlets ➡️Honey roasted paneer
➡️Goat curry
So if you are a fan of traditional dishes twisted with fresh produce and full flavoured this is certainly a place you have to try. Thanks again @bangstreetfood
.

Bang = an explosion of delicious Bangladeshi street food. That's why you should come here.

I came here with a group of 6, and we ordered the Bang For Your Buck banquet, which came with delicious Bang Bhaji (fried fritters), lamb cutlets, and the best dish of all.. The goat curry. We loved the goat curry so much that we ordered 2x servings of this. Oh boy were we full after!! One thing that was interesting was that they only served Portuguese wine here, which isn't a bad thing, just interesting as it's a Bangladeshi restaurant. Portuguese wine is pretty damn good though.

I'm already thinking about my next visit... Great staff, atmosphere, and delicious food!

The goat curry.

That is all. Just go there to eat the goat curry.

The rest of the food was unfortunately just okay. I have had authentic Bangladeshi food and the food here was just not as spicy or flavoursome. Some dishes were missing basic salt and pepper seasoning. But the goat curry. I can't even explain it. I could just eat that curry for days. And I have never really liked goat...

Such a cool venue. Food was AMAZING and so nice to try something different. Super small but they allow bookings which was nice. We had the banquet and for $55ish each I would highly highly recommend. Every dish was delicious, without exception. Wine list is a little difficult to decipher so had to trust the waiter but the cocktails are worth a try. Will definitely return!

Went here with a girlfriend and it was dope! Awesome vibe we sat up at the bar and the restaurant was choccas. The food was really different to anything I had had in Sydney. Beautiful flavors. Great selection of seafood. You could easy go for a full meal to get completely stuffed or just to get boozed and have something lite to eat.

Came with with a friend for a quick bite. Accidentally booked the wrong day but they managed to squeeze us in. Went for the chef's selection ($55) menu and the servings were very generous. I wouldn't say this is true Bangladeshi street food, more of a fusion, but still very decent nonetheless.

An overall disappointing experience. After hearing a lot about this place, I booked a bar seat for my boyfriends birthday. We were seated on the bar right next to where water was kept and drinks were being run and collected from, staff had no consideration for personal space - at one time there were 4 staff members surrounding our area. Wine and cocktails were being placed right next to my own drink. Having worked in hospitality for a while, an invasion of space was not something that I'd expect from a place like Bang - tables should be moved away from that area. The food was average, but there was a particular taste (almost like a chemical) in EVERY dish that made it unpleasurable. What is it??? Roti seems like it's frozen, bones in fish and rice $6 for a tiny bowl???? Over priced and would not recommend

We went last night which was a Friday. We booked on the Thursday and the most suitable time we could get was 6.45pm a little earlier than I would have liked.

We arrived to find a small restaurant with the tables a bit too close together. Starters were top class. The school prawn bora was delicious as were the dal puri. Intermediate dishes of kingfish and lamb riblet great too.

The main of curry goat and rice a disappointing. Maybe a little more cooking and a little less salt.

Nans again exceptionally good.

Dont be fooled by the name, Bang Street food is far from Street food. It's Modern-fine dining Bangladeshi food.

The servings are small and it is pricy, however it's nothing like you've ever tried before. Delicious menu and because I'm not very familiar with Bangladeshi food, I wasnt sure what I was eating till it went in my mouth.
Derek Lee
The atmosphere of this place is quite nice a mix of industrial and modern although saying that it seems like we were overcharged for the number of dishes we ordered. We got one entree dal puri, the tandoori lamb ribs the kingfisher fish and cucumber snake beans, grapes, black peas and spicy almonds but they charged us the $55 sampler each instead which seemed like more food with 2 glasses of wine. So was abit disappointed as it wasn't that filling and pricy. The waitress did seem friendly asking how everything was but it did feel abit rushed trying to get through the meal and getting us out the door. The main standout dish for me was the tandoori lamb which was quite tender and melted off the bone. The cucumber, snake bean, grapes and black chickpeas and almonds was also quite unusual but interesting taste combined.
The Hills Have Fries
YUM! This was a new cuisine for some of us, and a return trip for others. Goat curry and Tandoori Lamb Rib were absolutely fantastic, highly recommend the deep fried kale dish as well! We were absolutely STUFFED from the amount of food we received, and I think the average per head worked out around only $50!

Yoghurt mocktail drinks to die for! Delicious "Bang" hawker food to live for! How can one not come back here again and again? We Bengalis love our "phoochkas" and goat curry - I'm proud to say that Bang has it bang on the money! Can't wait to be back soon!

My taste buds tingled the whole time and service was great. Great venue , loved the bar tables. Already planning to go back. Thank you Bang

Staff were super friendly as we had made a date mistake with our reservation but were able to accommodate us with bad seating. We opted for the banquet menu which was a lot of food. Across the dishes flavour was strong and interesting. In particular the curry and naan bread were tasty.
Kulfi was an interesting dessert but I have had better.

Bang Street Food was really disappointing.

The pros were, nice decor, interesting menu and good concept, reasonably priced dishes which were a fair size.

The Cons- the staff were rude, they didn't smile or make an effort to ask if we wanted another round of drinks......which we did. Some of the dishes were very bland and overall I think it missed the Bang.

Monpasha Mukherjee
It's an interesting experience. Far from authentic, the vibe too is a bit pretentious and try-hard for my liking.
The food was a bit up and down too. Some courses better than the rest, the service was pitiful and too noisy!

Would I come back? Only for the goat curry.

Don't try and fool a Bengali with this stuff though.
The RnB Diary
When my friend suggested this restaurant I was a bit dubious simply because I didn't know much about Bangladesh food and wasn't a massive fan of curry. I am so glad I went.

We arrived on a school night without reservation. The restaurant was full but we were happy to sit at the bar. After a quick low down of the menu, we decided on the white baits, spiced potato, king salmon and goat curry. In the hindsight that was way too much food for two girls considering each course was decent portion. The white baits were the largest I had ever seen. They were very meaty and perfect for cold beers. The goat curry was so flavoursome and well seasoned, probably one of the best curries I had. Potatoes and salmon were nice too but overshadowed by the other two dishes.

No doubt the food and service were top notch. Now when it comes to bill, don't expect Bangaledesh street food price, after all this is Surry Hills in Sydney. It probably can buy you a whole month worth of food in Bangladesh!

NOT RECOMMENDED- We went there on a Friday night, we had booked for 6.30. Two out of three of us were there by 6.40. Were seated reminded the table was needed back by 8pm. We acknowledged that.

We went to order a starter while we waited for our friend to arrive. We're told as the waitress looked at her watch ' I rather you order it all at the one time as the chef didn't like it when people order things separately'. Somehow five minutes later the starter in question did arrive!

From here in it just got worse .. We were forced into ordering FAST our plates asked to be picked up before we could finish ... The bill on the table before we could swallow ... And OUT THE DOOR were we pushed by 7.45!!

Food was average at best no wow factor at all!

Disgraceful customer service!

Emma Jervis
Terrible, terrible service! went for a long overdue catch up with 2 girlfriends - we had set aside 2 hours before one had to get home to her baby. When the main had not arrived after about an hour forty, we asked 2 separate waitresses to follow it up, who we then observed to do nothing of the sort.
When the head waitress finally came over she was terribly sorry, but it was too late and we had to cancel the rest of the order. She offered a free dessert; nice, but we had to go. No other offer to not charge for drinks etc.
I get the whole trendy restaurant/ moody staff thing; but this was ridiculous.
Won't be back.
Whippy Cream
This place is awesome! Good menu, food, drinks, music, atmosphere. It's very lively even for a small space. Great to try with friends. Definitely try the lassi with a twist ie rum :)
A Food Fable
The suburbs of Surry Hills is almost synonymous with food and foodies. There’s cafes abound, small bars and intimate restaurants, far from the rowdiness and crowds that feature in the Sydney CBD. If you’re craving that fine balance between contemporary and traditional street food, pop into a visit after work at this restaurant:
La Petite Bobo
At the beginning of the year I made a promise with my best girlfriends; now that I was back living in Sydney, we’d organise a dinner once a week to try a new restaurant and have a girly catch-up. Sounds easy enough hey? Well this happened for the first time two weeks ago…that pretty much sums up how good we are at planning. Despite our terrible organisation skills, we definitelycan pick a damn good restaurant! The case was no different in relation to Bang – a hot new Bengali restaurant located smack bang in the middle of Surry Hills’ main street – Crown Street.

We were really looking forward to eating here however we had such an odd experience we will not be going back. The food is lovely. It's not cheap, but it's flavoursome and well done. The menu is short and varied and catered for both our vegis and meat eaters. So all good there. The playlist was great and it was busy enough to have a good buzz but not too manic to have a conversation over dinner. What threw the evening off kilter were the staff - one girl in particular was difficult, surly and bordered on rude - most of the others were reasonably helpful but overall the staff were quite offhand. We were brought our bill without asking for it - with no comment, it was just plonked in front of us by surly-pants. This was while we still had drinks on the table, and we felt under pressure to finish up and go - at about 9pm on a Saturday when they had empty tables. We had already had to ask to see the dessert menu - it had felt as though they were trying to get rid of us from then. Very odd - and at over $100 per head, not the sort of treatment we'd expect. So, all up, good food, good vibe, poor service.

I was expecting good things in line with Longrain group but unfortunately the delivery failed. its a trendy Surry Hills yuppy spot. all the patrons and staff were caucasian which was awkward as the restaurant is bangladeshi. Food was ordinary and the ambiance was miserable, bland and cold. just another blimp on the crown st map. maybe Kylie Kwong was right to jump to potts point to be amongt good quality restaurants that outshine Bang 3 fold.
Jamesvau
Underwhelming. The friendly and helpful staff and contemporary fit out do not make up for the bland, generally tasteless food. Sadly disappointed as it was overpriced for what it was, the goat curry was supposed to be the hottest me I item and it tasted watery and bland. Tandoor main just adequate. Overall unimpressed with this new addition to the Surry Hills food scene.

AWESOME NEW RESTAURANT. I'm honestly so I love with this funky place. For me, as a restaurant it ticks all the boxes! So glad that something different has finally opened up. Fuska is packed with so much flavour. Super tasty! Lamb shoulder just melted in my mouth and the mussels delicious! Should of order more naan for that gorgeous mussel bhuna sauce! Music sounds like my favs off my iPod and the staff are so down to earth. Overall a huge fan of Bang! Can't wait to bring more friends.

Great place great food. After reading the review from the bangladeshi national I was a bit hesitant to try it out. I came here for work lunch on a friday. It was nice and laid back and the staff were very friendly.
For the food being over priced? We are in surry hills! I ordered a the fuskas for entree and egg omelette for main. Along with the roasted nuts and a bang beer I was very satisfied. So that was $45 bucks and I say very well spent.
I definantly recommend everyone to try this place out. Cool fit out, great food, great vibe
Enjoy

I wans’t too sure about this dish from Bang Street Food, it seemed quite plain overall and there was nothing special about it. The cheese and honey combination turned out to be really good with an interesting texture. The salty and sweet marinate over the cheese gave it most of the flavour.

Posted on 10:20 amby Amy zhong with No comments Brace yourselves, the Taste of Sydney posts are coming! Not that it's a bad thing because so many outstanding dishes were beckoning our stomachs (and crown card) towards them, giving us the chance to sample some of Sydney's finest restaurants offering. Taste-y! This is my first time at Taste of Sydney, and like previous years it is held at the Brazilian fields at Centennial Park. Sure you can drive there but given the traffic, it is highly recommended that you catch public transport or get dropped off right out front. The hungry crowds We arrive early for the saturday evening session and it is already in full swing when we arrive. What we learnt (the hard way)? gotta arrive early and beat the queues! Another thing to keep in mind? Have a plan of attack, the menu is available online so take a quick squiz and pick out the dishes you want so you don't blow the budget! Oh and also there are heaps of brands doing tastings and chefs doing demos, so check out a few of those and you may score some tasty treats! porteno's icon dish is the BBQ'd porchetta with chilli, silverbeet & truffle pecorino So with our plan of attack and a map in our hands, we dove straight into the food, because heck we were starving! A long queue is not exactly a bad thing, not when it is a Porteno’s to get their famed porchetta. I kid you not when I said their queue stretched across the field. Although the wait to order was long, the pick up of the food was really efficient, with a plate off that porchetta in our hands in under 5 minutes! So how good is the porchetta? Friggen amazing! The meat was tender and flavoursome and the crackling was crunchy and all things amazing, I however didn’t like the silverbeet as I’m not a fan of overcooked greens . The truffle pecorino however made everything all good if not better! cured huon salmon with smoked oyster creme fraiche on a hash brown also from porteno is the cured huon salmon with smoked oyster creme fr
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
“When I was a kid, the first world aid concert was for Bangladesh. It seems weirdly, vicariously colonial to make it into a hipster street food outlet, and I’m absolutely sure they don't eat duck egg omelet with blue swimmer crab. ” My dining companion is somewhat harsh about the latest high concept ‘street food’ to hit Surry Hills, though celebrating people like Vasco da Gama, who ‘discovered’ occupied territories, on the menu does strike me as awkward. He’s employed to explain the Portuguese wine list; the 2013 Prova Regia Arinto, Bucelas ($14/$68) drinks well. The Sylhet division of Bangladesh is prime tea growing country, explaining the presence of easy-drinking cocktails like gin-spiked Earl Grey ($16) and 9 Fruit Tea ($16) . Chef Tapos Singha, another export from the region, curries back favour with his Wagyu Tri-tip Curry ($32): tender hunks of flavoursome beef in a gravy made glossy by...

A modern twist to Bangladeshi food. In a culinary landscape these days where people are trying to re-invent everything from the simple hamburger and whatever else they can dream up, its nice to see someone have a crack at Bangladeshi food. Ask a sub continental person and they will probably passionately say there are distinct differences between the different countries...although Bangladeshi food has tended to hide behind a general "Indian" banner for so long in Sydney, the food here does have a distinct bangladeshi-ness about it!. I for one, am all for this upmarket take on Bangladeshi food! The food and atmosphere are excellent... the menu refreshingly not your typical list of sub-continental staples... I think local bangladeshis expecting street food exactly as they remember back in their home country will be disappointed, but those who approach it as a modern take on it will love it... If you are looking for sub-continental food thats different to the average sub-continental fare... this is one to try.
Well done Bang Street!

My new favourite spot! Authentic and delicious Bangladeshi food. I came to Bang for the first time when they first open and have to admit that this place is the new thing! I have tried before bangladeshi food and absolutely love it, and finding this place close to my home has been amazing! The restaurant has a fun and cozy environment in which the staff is very friendly, and before even ordering our food they gave us sand roasted shell peanuts, in which they were perfect to start the night with.
My friend and I decide to order the Fuska, the cobia tartare, honey roasted paneer, the mussels and the wagyu tri tip curry, and off course some naan bread and pulau rice, to eat along with the mains. Everything was tasty, and so much flavour in each dish that distinct from one to another. The wagyu curry was perfectly cook, in which just melts in your mouth ( my favourite dish).

To finish the night desserts!!!! We order both desserts, the kulfi (mango ice cream with white chocolate and pistachio) and the "rum drunk doughnuts". The kulfi was refreshing and not that sweet, which was great for my friend that doesn't like to eat too much sweet, however she was asking for more at the end!! My favourite was the rum drunk doughnuts, is properly balance the sweetness of the doughnuts with the saffron creme fraiche, delicious!

To be honest at the beginning of the night I was a bit scare of the spiciness of the food but it was just perfect! I totally recommend this place, the food is worth the price.

Want over priced and an unauthentic Bangladeshi experience? Try this place.. Being from Bangladesh, my friends and I were pretty excited to try out Bang Street Food at Surry Hills - finally, a Bengali restaurant opening in Surry Hills? We couldn't wait to try it out. All the food we got back at home, now available on Crown Street? Can't miss this opportunity! We had to try it out. But when we went in, we were sorely disappointed.

To start of, we ordered fuskas and sand roasted nuts.
For $8, you only get 2 fuskas a serve. Thats 4 bucks a fuska - 4 bucks back in Bangladesh is approximately 240 TK. - to pay that for a Fuska is outrageously stupid. Putting things in perspective - it costs 5TK MAXIMUM back home. Its not even that hard to make, and costs even less to make, so the fact this place charges that much just for one is not only bad, its absolutely criminal. Street food is supposed to be cheap, not over-priced.

The nuts were good, and comes wrapped in a newspaper cone, which is how street vendors back in Bangladesh sell them, so that was cool to see. And they do fill you up. Its also worth mentioning, that when purchasing the $2 servings of nuts, proceeds go to the Fred Hollow foundation in Bangladesh, which i feel is a worthy cause....So plus points all around.........except for one pretty big negative point - one of my nuts was burnt. Stop laughing, I know that sounds funny in your dirty mind- but one of the nuts that I had was actually burnt. Not happy

Then we got some smaller plates to share, like the Honey Roasted Paneer, duck omelette and the Hanger steak kebab, and they are priced $18, 23, and $20 respectively. Like the fuskas, made reasonably well, but portions are still extremely small - except the omelette, which i thought was decently sized. But the Hanger Kebab - you pay $20, and you expect a full plate, and instead, you get 5-8 measly sized kebabs, just marginally bigger than sugar cubes.

For mains it was kachchi biriyani with goat - the goat meat wasn't too bad, but the biriyani lacked flavour. And for $32, the size was a let down once again.

And lets talk about the ambience and the decor - to Bang's credit, its a pretty cool interior, and the staff have brightly coloured t- shirts on with a picture of the Royal Bengal tiger which is the national animal of Bangladesh. The music on the other hand, was a let down - I like Biggie Smalls and old school music just as much as the next person, but this isn't the "authentic" Bangladeshi experience one expects when walking in. Bangladeshi music is soothing and rhythmic, and they tell stories of love, war, faith and beauty. Why not play contemporary Bengali music in the background? That is so much more authentic......than listening to "Juicy" in the background.

Overall my verdict - 2/5 stars for this place. Its over-priced, and absolutely un-authentic. Seeing my country's food being sold at over priced prices, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. We expected our bellies to be full, and instead on the way back home I had to buy a Big Mac to curb my hunger.

To the uninitiated, this place might seem cool. But there are better places in Sydney where you can get better Bangladeshi food, for a lot cheaper, a lot more flavoursome, and a lot more authentic. Try Rockdale.........or my mom's house.

An exciting new restaurant for crown street!. Walking down crown street to find a door lit up by a red light and a small sign saying bang makes one curious. To walk up stairs and find this new modern industrial sheik restaurant offering Bangladeshi street food, a cuisine which I have not tried before. You are greeted with waiters with funky colourful shirts. you could say it describes the attitude of the waiters too. We felt very welcomed into the restaurant evert if was described to us in the best way possible as if these staff had actually eaten in Bangladesh! Now the food !!! A very different cuisine, everything is made to share however you can get your own dishes too.

Entree FUSKA – spiced potato, coriander, green chilli,
shaved egg, tamarind water
Bombay mix - puffed rice, lemon, eschallots, coriander. $6
Main:Tandoori quail, dutch carrots, eggplant bhorta, pomegranate. $35
Wagyu tri tip curry, satkora. $32
Dessert: Rum drunk doughnuts, caramelised peaches,
Sides: Rice and Naan Bread

We got our rice puffs in a cardboard cone and were told to just tip it into our hands and eat it as they would do in Bangladesh. The Fuska you then had to poor the tamarind water over it changing the texture of the dish completely but eat it quick!!
We then were served our too very large dishes with our naan bread and rice was perfect both my partner and I could share it and put it on naan. They way the dishes were made honestly gave it that street food feel!!!
Then the dessert I've had in a while the rum drunk donut soaked in my favorite captain Morgan rum was the perfect combination along side the caramelised peaches.

This is Sydney's newest restaurant and was sure a hit for me!! classy street food is how to describe this restaurant!!
