Review Arthur's Pizza - Sydney

Lillie Allis
The pizzas are really good and there's lots of choice. The salad was good too, but didn't look as good as what we paid for it... But, again, the food was good. Service was a little less good sadly. Overall alright. 4 stars because the pizzas were genuinely good

Possibly the worst pizza we have ever had. Cardboard crust, zero cheese and scrap bin meat toppings. I wish 0 stars were an option

I’ve only had Arthur’s pizza when ordering via a delivery service. The first time, I ordered 2 small pizzas. They were slightly burnt but we’re still very tasty. I ordered medium the following time and they were absolutely beautiful. However, I did add extra cheese, which I don’t have to do at Mad Pizza, Darlinghurst and shouldn’t have to do at all. With the extra cheese the pizzas are beautiful.

This place is by far the best pizza restaurant in Sydney. The crust was perfect and lots of options to pick from. The staff are super friendly and kind. The pizzas are worth dying for. I would definetly go back and try it again

The last two times I have ordered from Arthur's Pizza Paddington, I have received only part of my order. The first time my partner placed an order online for me to pick-up. When I arrived to pick-up the order under my partner's name, the staff relied on me to tell them what was in the order. I assumed it was only two pizzas, which meant that I wasn't given the garlic bread and soft drink that my partner had paid for. You would expect a restaurant to prepare and check their own orders. The second time we ordered delivery via Uber Eats and the order was delivered without our garlic bread. The service at Arthur's has been consistently disappointing. For that reason, I am always considering other pizza options in the eastern suburbs.

My favorite pizza place in town. Probably the best pizzeria in entire Sydney! Most of my friends believe Pitzola and Hawaiian are the best flavors! Chinotto must be ordered to go down with the Pizzas to complete the harmonic experience!

Really good pizza. Good and made fresh. Nice thin crust and topped with good ingredients. Small place located in the Paddington district. They offer a range of different toppings for the pizzas. They also offer pasta dishes. They sell beers to go along with your pizza or soda if you prefer. The staff was friendly enough. This is a good place. Check it out.

Good experience. It was during the Rugby so the place was very busy. But they really put in their best effort.

The place where I wanted to go was too busy so we ended up here.
They don’t serve traditional pizzas: the dough is different, tomato sauce and cheap cheese taste different and the way they make those pizzas is different.
Tables were not enough big to fit our dishes and the waitress said it was her first day, so she was not really good.
The sign outside was upside down so I understood immediately it was not a good signal.
I think it’s a type of place who works more with online orders, very cheap.
Fortunately I was in good company, so everything was fine anyway.

The bianco pizza was delicious. Staff seemed polite and friendly and the restaurant has a welcoming vibe to it. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, as it also accommodates dietary requirements including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.

It's Ok Pizza. Could be good, but delivered so cold it's hard to tell.

The system is clearly deficient and does not constitute. Good pizza. Which delivery is a definitely part of...

FOOD TYPE

Italian

FOOD QUALITY
Five of us dined on a wet and wintery May night. We started with a couple of bottles of refreshing Peroni ($7 each), a small bottle of sparkling white wine ($10), an apple juice and, as it was Mother’s Day, my wife got a complimentary glass of champers. For entrees, we shared a serve of garlic bread ($5) and a rocket and parmesan salad ($13). The garlic bread was soft and buttery. Serving size was generous enough for each of us to have at least one piece. The salad was a tad small, but it was wholesome and fresh, with a tangy, dark, vinaigrette style dressing. But that’s just the side-show, because the main attraction here of course, are the mouthwatering pizzas, brought to the table, piping hot, direct from the pizza oven. We shared three family-sized ones: A “Melanz”, a combo “Bello” and “Napolitano” and a combo “Hawai’in” and “Supreme”. They’re huge, and excellent value at only $26 each, or $27 for the mixed ones. They were all delicious, with thin, crusty bases and lashings of cheese and toppings. The “Melanz” had capsicum, artichokes, eggplant, mushroom and pesto. The Bello/Napolitano was a winning combo. The “Bello” half had tomatoes, basil and bocconcini, whilst the Napolitano half provided a nice salty contrast of olives and anchovies. There was plenty of meat in the Hawai’in/Supreme, sweetened by pieces of ripe pineapple. We polished the lot off, not one piece was left. Full marks to the hardworking pizza chefs: they’ve been doing this for years and they are experts. You’d go a long way to find better quality pizzas than these. And the family size is just right for two people with healthy appetites. For dessert we shared a sticky date pud ($8) which came with a serve of ice cream and a dollop of cream. The perfect way to end the meal.

ATMOSPHERE
Perhaps on account of the inclement weather, and it being a Sunday night, the place was pretty empty, just a smattering of other diners, although there was plenty of activity in the home delivery area, with scooter drivers queued up at the front to collect their loads. We were last here probably a decade ago, and the place hasn’t changed much since then. It’s a thin, elongated space with tables arranged in a neat, north south formation. Decor is standard pizzeria style, with wooden furniture, a serving counter and pizza ovens along one side and low lighting in a brown colour tone, with white tiled floors. It does look a tad tired and outdated and could benefit from a makeover, to modernise, and freshen it up a bit. I must confess, that on the night we dined, and with so few other diners, it did have a slightly dreary ambience.

SERVICE
It’s an all-female cast of pretty waitresses here, neatly turned out in smart black uniforms. And what a pleasant bunch they are: Friendly, courteous and attentive, without being overbearing or obsequious. They made us feel welcome the moment we walked through the door. There must have been at least three on duty, and they all seem to know exactly what to do, so the place hums along like a well-oiled machine. Orders were promptly taken, drinks came out immediately, followed a few minutes later by the salad and garlic bread and then about 10 minutes later the pizzas. The manager/owner too was super nice and friendly.

COMFORT
Furniture is a bit old, and tables are small and cramped, but the pizza stands save the day. Without them we would never have been able to fit everything on the table. There’s no heating, and it was a particularly wet and chilly night, but I guess the pizza ovens keep the place warm and we didn’t feel the cold too badly.

TOILETS
Like the rest of the place the aging toilets are in need of a makeover. There’s no signage from within the restaurant, so you need to walk to the back and just keep walking until you hit them, up a short flight of stairs. Floors are slippery so be careful not to fall. There are separate male and female ones, and with adequate cubicles, at least there’s no waiting around for one to become available.

ACOUSTICS
Because of the small turnout, we had no trouble conversing but with the wooden furniture, tiled floors and with not a sound absorber in sight, this place could get noisy if it was full.

COST
With our Ent Book voucher giving us a 25% discount, we paid a reasonable $106 for three beers, a fruit juice, a bottle of sparkling wine, garlic bread, salad, three huge family sized pizzas and a sticky date pud. Plus the complimentary glass of “Mother’s Day”champers. You can’t complain about that.

BOOKING
We took the precaution of booking ahead, but it really wasn’t necessary. Plenty of empty tables, although Fri and Sat nights may be a different story. The lousy weather may have contributed to the small crowd.

PARKING
We had no problems finding a parking right across the road, where there are limited weekend restrictions, and none at night. But if can’t find something on Oxford Street, you could always drive down Oatley Road, near the Chauvel Cinema, and you’re bound to find something there.

SUMMARY
Despite the lack of atmosphere, we had a pleasant evening and everything went off smoothly. Pizzas were delicious and service was outstanding. It would be nice though, to see the interior upgraded and modernised, and that may help to bring the crowds back again. As it stands, it has the look of a place that’s seen better days, and that’s a pity because it offers a premium-grade dining experience, and in terms of value for money, they don’t come much better than this. (Just keep the prices the same guys, after the upgrade!)

RECOMMENDATION
A family pizza is perfect for two people and they’re only happy to mix and match the toppings on one pizza.

MEMO
Ent Book holders enjoy a 25% discount and watch out for even better Groupon deals. As of this writing, you can get four pizzas plus garlic bread and wine for only $48 or $24 for two.

This has to be the worst pizza ever. Firstly it was an hour and 15minutes for delivery. Upon delivery we were surprised that the boxes only felt like cold cardboard, no warmth or heat what so ever. The real surprise was when we opened the box and saw how stiff the cheese was, how so hydrated the vegetables were and most of all how cold and frozen the pizza was. Literally chewing gum would have been more pleasureable. The after taste felt like a mouthful of lard. Worst pizza experience ever,

Pleasantly suprised tonight, their pizzas are so yum !! Didnt have the heavy feeling afterwards. Cheese at the bottom and topings on top, works well and I'll definitely be back for more !😋 great service too !

Great pizza, and pasta (as you can see both items came out of the kitchen nice and fresh). Friendly service as well (although my friend and I had to speak up considerably, in order for our order to be properly taken). The rear of the dining room can be quite relaxed & peaceful, so perhaps ideal to continue going on a Sunday night (or when a sporting match isnt playing on the telly). Local atmosphere as well, so a fairly nice place to dine; either with family, a partner, or a long lost friend :)

Visiting for a conference nearby and the Sydneysiders in our group took us to this local staple. Great night, simple, fuss free, thin delicious pizza as it should be. Friendly service even when our loud group overstayed our welcome.

It baffles me why a family size Margherita ($20) and Hawaiian pizza ($26) would be charged as $27 for a half and half? Nonetheless, the pizzas are delicious, with a thin crust and slightly chewy. Kids are looked after with a drawing activity sheet and coloured pencils.

This is a rugby staple. It's the go to place for rugby fans before the game. It will live on in kids childhood memories of going with dad's for good quality pizza and a drink before the nights events.
Yumyumyum
One of the cheaper places to have a pizza. Pizza was really large and exceptional value. The only downside is that it's really cheesy. Next time I might request less cheese.

You can't go wrong with a $10 pizza! We got a vego one with mushrooms, spinach etc. and it was hot and fresh and tasty. Nothing out of this world but consistently good.

Terrible service. Ordered a delivery, called up 1 hour later as it still hadn't arrived. Told the guy tried to deliver but couldn't find the house (why didn't someone call the mobile I'd given??) then when he offered to deliver and "I said well making sure it's not cold because I don't want cold pizza" he said forget it and hung up!! Laughable, will not be back!

Terrible service. Absolute.... Terrible service.
Absolutely terrible.
We ordered a garlic bread and it came to the table still frozen in the middle. When we brought this to the attention of the wait staff, they were unimpressed and took it away.
Only to receive a second load of garlic bread that was once again frozen in the middle.
I am thoroughly unimpressed.

Horrible customer service. Make sure you check what you get before the driver leaves! Even after many years of loyal patronage, be it eat-in, take away and delivery, tonight we ordered 2 nitro pizzas - what was delivered where 2 Arthur's specials.
Making a call to the lovely man who takes the calls, he wanted to argue and then said "you always order Nitro's" - following a simple request if they could remake the pizza's or at leas one of them, he hung up on me after saying it was too late for a delivery at 8.18pm on a Thursday night.

Really poor over the phone service - old man answered got the address wrong (despite getting him to repeat it after) and really rude. Pizza took 2 hours to come - because they didn't have the address right. Poor delivery guy seem so frustrated with the situation and it took two times to deliver the pizza. Communication within must be very poor. DO NOT ORDER TAKE AWAY FROM HERE

Arthurs pizza Paddington. I just had the owner of Arthur's pizza in Paddington firstly hang up on me because I asked for delivery. When I called back expecting this to be an accident he advised it was deliberate because he did not want to do deliveries. So don't do it then rather than being rude and abusive.

New customer. Decided to try Arthur's pizza, Paddington after a pretty awful day, food ok but the thing that would ever prevent me from going back is the bitching about the tip I left. I left just over 10 percent which I thought was ok but had to put up with comments such as wow that's an awesome tip, that was worth waiting around for. Wow! thanks Arthur's. One to put on to the list of never again!!

Avoid the toothless crack head looking manager. Rude over the phone and 100 times ruder in person. This woman will be the death of this place. How could a joint like this operate in paddington?

Delicious!. Ate there last night with my wife and adult son. Table service superb, quick service and thoroughly delicious family pizza ( half meat lovers, half arrostito). Beer cold and did not go the dessert though the dessert menu looked great.

The pizza used to be good but with lousy, rude service. Since they've reopened (new owners?) the pizza is lousy and the service is incompetent. Used to get home delivery once a week, out of the last two times, one pizza arrived cold and the next time the driver got lost and we had to go pick up the pizza after waiting and hour an half (they couldn't have been further from apologetic). The lettuce instead of spinach was an interesting touch too, once we finally got it home. There's better places in the area, won't be going back again. Shame, it used to be good.

Pizza was ok, but will not come back because of the manager. My husband and I went here the first day we arrived in Sydney having come from 5 great weeks in Melbourne where we had delicious pizza. We shared a pizza just to try it out since we were staying in Paddington. The toppings were ok, but the crust was bit doughy and not crispy. The pizza itself was bland, could have used some salt.

Now on to the manager...she runs the cash register and yells at her employees. When we were there, she was yelling very loudly at the delivery person who could not find the customer he was delivering to. She berated him and said something like, I work with imbeciles or idiots. She said that in front of customers and her other employees. After we paid, I acknowledged her on the way out but she wasn't friendly.

What's interesting is I got a haircut in Surry Hills and my stylist and I got around to talking about restaurants and about Arthurs. Before I told him what I thought, he said he would never come here again because of the owner. He saw her berating and yelling at an employee on the floor in front of people. He spoke to her afterwards and told her that as a business owner and manager, he was appalled at her behavior. He suggested he not treat her employees like that or at the very least, talk to them about any issues in the back room. Her response was that it was between her and her employees. That incident happened a year ago and from my recent visit, seems like she still hasn't changed. She has a lot of Asian workers, but also non-Asian workers and they all seem nice but quiet - perhaps they don't want to get in trouble.

Give it a try. Food was good as was the service....there are a few other places for pizza I'd highly recommend but Arthur's is still a good choice.
Chilli
Order the Bello!. The bello pizza (roma tomatoes, basil, bocconcini) is the closest thing to ordering a pizza in italy. I ordered chilli on top which brought out all of the natural flavours. A few extra basil leaves would have helped but thats my only complaint.
I could eat it every day! My friend ordered the Nitro - very strong salami taste (i hate salami) besides that the chilli and the green capsicum were perrrfect.

This was the worst pizza i've had in a very long time.

Great late night spot after a night on the town. This is a great spot for you to go if you are after a good hot pizza with plenty of taste. Seems the busy times are after the lights go out at the local pubs. Not a bad place to socialize in the wee small hours.
