This place literally my favourite restaurant if I go to Sydney. Everything was just perfect. They have lots of toppings that makes you want to take them all. I always order the medium spicy level soup with garlic sauce which is soooo yum!! šš
This was my second time having malatang in the last 2 days... you can say that Iām obsessed! Itās the best cheap feed in my opinion, thatās warm, hearty and mouth-watering. Itās like hot pot, but in one personalised bowl.
You begin by choosing your ingredients from a wide selection, into one large bowl e.g. noodles, vegetables, meats, fish cakes/balls etc. You are then moved to the counter where you weigh your bowl and pay accordingly. My bowls tend to be around the $9-$12 mark. Once paid for, you are given a receipt in which you wait for your bowl to be cooked. The workers will call out for your order number and then you are to choose your preferred condiments and spice level. Condiments include sugar, black vinegar, sesame sauce/oil, garlic sauce, pepper oil, and chilli.
I arrived around 12pm on a Monday, and it was quite packed. Considering the lunch time rush, my food was ready within 10 minutes or so. When comparing to the Burwood franchise, the Chinatown joint is a lot more spacious, clean and modern. There isnāt really much customer service orientation here, but they werenāt the nastiest people either.
The photos donāt do the dish justice - if anything, it looks kind of unappealing but trust me, it tastes soo good! It would be great for winter days and as hangover cures š
Itās kinda shiok! I ordered mild spicy, sesame sauce and garlic sauce. Hits the right spot, not too overpowering. I was rather confused by the sequence of numbers they call out to, my order was 41 and 42. However, my order was only called out to me when my partner is finishing his food. Itās quite crazy.
Comfort food, always hits the spot! Donāt get tempted to grab too much! āŗļø love a little bit of garlic oil and a dash of chilli! Sweet potato noodles is a must in your soup!
YANG GUO FU MA LA TANG
Creating your own soup dish similarly to hot pot but not having to actually cook it.
First walking into this restaurant you grab a bowl to place all your selected ingredients, from veggies, noodles and seafood/meats. It was well placed constantly refilled for easy use. It would be helpful if they had every item clearly labelled as it gets difficult to know what is what if you've never tried before.
They have a minimum spend of $7 a dish and once you give your ingredients they will weigh it and prepare the soup dish together. They will charge you by weight.
At collection, you get to choose your sauce from light chilli to extra chilli. Selected the recommended sauces with no chilli and enjoyed it. It tasted something in between a laksa and tom yum soup.
Recommend to get in early as it does get busy and the place isn't that big. But cooking waiting time isn't long so people leave quickly too.
Overall, this place is fun and different if you are craving something soupy.
Always crowded when come here. Cheaper than other malatang. Just for the sauce we cant take by ourself. The variant is a lot. They dont have tap water which is we need to purchase the drink
Food was quite good. You can choose your own protein and veggies! Wide variant of choices. And you can also choose your choice. A good option in the winter for a hotpot. Idk but I donāt think they serve rice and tap water. Overall satisfied.
Went with a friend and I like how the restaurant is set up. You choose your own ingredients and weigh it at the cashier. Then you pay for the food and get a ticket while you wait for the kitchen staff to call out your name and ask you what additional sauce would you like to your soup. It took quite a while for my number to be called out, considering how busy the restaurant is.Ā
The broth was really rich with a dash of chili oil and garlic. I chose a lot of meat and they just seeped into the broth and it was absolutely beautiful. Tofu and meatballs are also the toppings I chose into my bowl and I was able to leave the restaurant absolutely full and happy.
My favourite restaurant in Sydney. In fact itās often the first and last meal I have when I visit Sydney. Make your own noodle bowl. Choose from a crazy array of toppings. I love the bamboo shoots, quail eggs, fungus, tofu and seaweed. I canāt get enough of the rich broth with heaps of chilli and pepper oil. Great value, pay by weight.
Actually so delicious
So cheap
Will definitely fill you up
It costs $12 per 500g of ingredients
There's so many different ingredients you can choose from, with different kinds of meats, vegetables, mushrooms, noodles and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Surprisingly, their chilli is actually pretty spicy so I suggest to be careful if you're not too good with chilli food.
Service is pretty fast too.
I'm gonna assume that all their ingredients are very fresh because so many people actually eat there and they refill it very often.
Yang guo Fu Ma la Tang!! This is probably one of the place i visited the most in winter season, the hot soup is just so great to warm your body in this season.
Now, the main point of this review, the FOOD!! The food is quite ok and some selection are seriously good. However, the things that make me want to come back to this store is it SOUP! the soup is delishiousheses!!!, and the price are economically FRIENDLY.
$12/500grams is reasonable for me, you measure on your own so be wise when decide what to eat, there will be lots of options that looks delicious.
The food tastes alright, you can find it in asian grocery store to buy it, but the soup is the best from it.
