Good wholesome delicious and most important of all - Spicy - Thai food in Surry Hills.
My go to dish of late at Thai restaurants has been Fish Salad done extra spicy. The Grilled Salmon Green Mango Salad is a favorite!
I'm having the Crispy Duck Massaman Curry tonight - and loving every bit of it!
U can BYO your fav wine for $4 corkage per head (a tad steep imho - why not have it per bottle).
Friendly staff.

I went to Uber Thai for dessert and got a Thai Milk Tea and Sticky Rice and Sago dessert. It costed $14 in total, however the dessert was pleasant, good amount and the Milk Tea was good. Service was nice, however I was given the bill even though my milk tea was half full and dessert not finished yet. It's a bit dark in the restaurant, and the dinner menu looked a bit pricey, however overall, I would consider coming here again.

Out of so many thai restaurant in Sydney, uber thai is certainly one of the good one if not the best . Was told they are similar to melbourne's chin chin, which I totally dun think so as this place is more of thai traditional and elegance , without fusion .
The taste of the food is pretty strong and heavy but at the same time very delicious. Hence we ended up having three serve of rice and got charge $9 for just the rice. (Thought that's abit ripped off). Despite that, I absolutely love the dishes that I ordered- grilled salmon and mango salad, crispy pork in yellow curry paste, and the fish wrapped with betel leaf. Will certainly be back to try the duck massaman curry that the staff strongly recommend yet we don't feel like having today.

Decent thai food here. The scallops were a bit too strong in flavour for me. The crispy duck massaman curry was good while the salmon and mango salad was also tasty.

Have been here a few times but not recently until a craving for Thai at lunch. The massaman beef was one of the most beautiful I have had in a long time. Consistently good food.

Pricer than the thai nearby but definitely fancier with attention paid to presentation and a more intimate and polished interior/decor.

Usual favourites are better presented and fancier (such as king prawn pad thai), pricey starters are quite unique and tasty (scallop salad thing was nice).

Had the beef curry with potatoes, was quite nice, portions are plenty albeit unbalanced (had plenty of curry left after my rice).

probably a better date spot than a weeknight takeaway dinner.

Excellent service and good food. Their scallops are delicious, whereas the salmon mango salad in mains was my go-to dish.
Three entrees plus four mains and fried rice cost $112; good value!

FOOD QUALITY
For what is basically a hole-in-the-wall eatery in a less salubrious part of Sydney’s inner suburbs, U.T. serves up solid, tasty fare that’s on a par with the best Thai we’ve had elsewhere. Four of us dined on a busy Saturday night. For starters we shared the RICH MONEY BAGS ($12 for four pieces) and our all-time favourite: THAI FISHCAKES ($12 for four pieces). The fish cakes were quite different from what we usually get at other Thai restaurants. These were little bite-size pieces with lettuce, tomatoes and crushed nuts carefully wrapped in thin slices of cucumber. An interesting design, but one mouthful and they were gone. The money bags were the more traditional kind with a tight crispy coating and a nutritious vegetarian filling. So all that got polished off pretty quickly. For my main I choose the THAI RUMP STEAK SALAD ($16), which had generous slices of finely cut beef on a bed of fresh salad including cucumber, tomatoes, shallots, coriander, onions, lemongrass and mint and soaked in lime juice and chilli. The beef was a tad rare for my liking which I guess was my fault for not asking for it to be well cooked (or maybe they should have asked?) but apart from that, it was a flavoursome, filling and well-rounded meal. I especially enjoyed the lemongrass flavour that pervaded it. My dining companions had a duck massaman curry with onions and potatoes ($22) and two had the shitake mushrooms and tofu which had snow peas, bok choy, broccoli and finished off with a tangy combo of soy and mushroom sauces ($13). Serving sizes were just right, leaving little room for anything else afterwards. There are some desserts on the menu but we give it a miss. We were all full and satisfied.

ATMOSPHERE
Basic wooden furniture, low lighting and exposed brick walls give U.T. a rather down-market street food feel to it, which is probably the intention, as the name suggests. And it’s small, with perhaps a dozen tables packed closely together. But it buzzes with energy and atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be having a good time with animated conversation going on all around. For us though, it was a tad claustrophobic and noisy, but I say this not in any way to detract from the obvious success of this venture and the effort that the owners have put into it: It’s just that it may not suit everyone.

SERVICE
The place hums like a well-oiled machine and despite the crowds, service was fast and efficient – if a little unsmiling.

COMFORT
As mentioned, it’s all wood and brick here, so it’s not the most comfortable place, but then most people don’t seem to stay long anyway. Tables were a tad cramped which made it difficult to fit everything.

MENU
We struggled to read the menu in the dim light.

TOILETS
There is a single unisex toilet, not clearly signposted but not difficult to find either in such a small restaurant. It was reasonably clean although there were no handtowels and the dryer didn’t work either.

ACOUSTICS
There are no carpets or other noise absorbers and with as many tables as possible squeezed into a confined space, noise levels were excessive and we had a hard time conversing above the din. This made for a less than relaxing evening.

COST
I found the pricing structure a bit odd: $12 for four tiny fishcakes, yet only $16 for a substantial Thai rump steak salad and only $13 for the shitake mushroom dish. $4 per head for corkage was a bit steep. All up and with no voucher or docket deal, we paid $113 for four of us and that included the corkage, two shared starters, four mains and three serves of rice. So that’s a tad under $30 a head.

BOOKING
Essential I would think for weekend dining.

PARKING/ACCESS
We never bother driving to this part of the world, preferring to leave our car at Bondi Jt. and catching a cab here. But there are public transport options available with Central Station a short 10-minute walk away down Devonshire Street, and plenty of buses trawling up and down Elizabeth Street. However, I guess this is more a joint for the locals and I can’t see people trekking across town to eat here.

SUMMARY
Food is fresh and tasty and served in decent quantities. The service is fast and efficient and prices are reasonable if a bit inconsistent. But I found the venue too noisy and cramped for my liking. Access is also a problem with limited street parking. So we won’t be rushing back here, but full marks to the owners for this welcome new addition to the generally dreary Surry Hills dining scene.

MEMO
You can book through Dimmi.

If you don’t want to pay corkage, grab a drink beforehand at the nearby Strawberry Hills Hotel on the corner of Elizabeth and Devonshire streets.

This place is the best. The duck massaman curry is amazing and the service was really friendly. Their dessert was so tasty as well. I didn't know what a glutionous ball was but whatever it is, it's good!

Does My Bomb Look Big In This

Immersed in fragrant Thai basil, my teeth register pleasure at the resistance in long slivers of bamboo, and crunch in tiny green eggplants. Gently cooked chicken thigh is also plentiful in this well-balanced Green Curry ($12) , and it’s a steal at the price. Executive Chef Guitar Salacheep has teamed up with Joy Suthawan, drawing upon their combined wealth of cooking experience at Sydney’s Thai big hitters, including the ever-popular Spice I Am . They’ve thought about what Western diners enjoy, without compromising on heat or authentic Thai flavours. So you’ll find the Grilled Pork Som Tum with Coconut Rice ($15) intensely sour, while the sweetness of Pad Prik King Crispy Pork Belly ($14) is cut with fiery bird’s eye chilli. Rather than the usual three rubbery hockey pucks on a plate, Fish Cakes ($6)...

Delicious food, friendly service. Authentic Thai food that is not only delicious but not overly sweet either. Service was quick and friendly and process was reasonable. The dining room was clean and I felt very content to just sit there while checking my emails on the phone after my meal. Highly recommended đź‘Ť
