Review Zigi's Wine Bar - Sydney

Alice Ao
Had an amazing night at Zigi’s to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. The bar itself is so cute and the wine garden in the back has the best vibes! The staff are phenomenal and the food and drinks are not just delicious but also so well priced for Sydney! Everyone had the best time! We have also been here on date nights and I can honestly say - it never disappoints!

An absolute hidden gem with great vibes and great staff. I booked the outdoor area on a Thursday night for a group of 15 - and Zigi's completely exceeded our expectations. The outdoor area was very cosy and charming - decked out with fairy lights and was completely covered to protect us from the rain. It was intimate yet spacious enough for us to be comfortable. The service was also top notch. As soon as we arrived, Antony (the bartender) made us feel very welcome and was the reason why people lingered around the bar for a while when they went to get more drinks (as they were having such a terrific time talking to him!). Antony was very helpful in recommending drinks and food (which were all reasonably priced) - get the crispy cauliflower bites and the mixed dips! Zigi also came by to say a warm hello to us and to make sure we were having a great time (which we were). In fact, all of us had such great time that I've already made our next booking to go back!

Popped into Zigis for a pre-show dinner. My goodness the food was excellent. Reasonably priced and a lovely variety of dishes and cocktails. The service was top notch, I didn't catch the bartenders name, but whomever was on last saturday night, thank you for making our visit so special. Will definitely be back!

We felt right at home at Zigi's - walking in from the rain to a warm welcome started the night off perfectly. No surprise that the wine selection is fantastic but we were amazed by the variety of food on the menu as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the brisket, duck pancakes, raclette and arancini. It's been awhile since I've visited a place where I felt so comfortable and relaxed - the Zigi's team have created something special in such a great space and I look forward to visiting them again, whatever the weather!

I called in to Zigi's prior to a show late on Saturday afternoon..We were greeted by friendly staff and served some perfectly mixed cocktails... sooo good! We then picked our way through some of the menu food, sharing quite a few different dishes.. all cooked beautifully. Washed down with some delicious wine of course.. I only wish I could have lingered longer. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area. Loved Zigi's.

Recently, my birthday was held at Zigi's, my friends and I had an absolute blast and enjoyed the authenticity of this place. Service was top tier and Zigi is a gem. Highly recommend Zigi's Wine Bar for dinner, drinks and birthday occasions. Thank you for having us Zigi!!!!

Small but cosy bar area with a great welcoming atmosphere and intimate back garden area, super friendly and helpful bar staff. Huge amount of variety and quality in the updated food and wine menu too (a nice surprise since my last visit), we wanted to try everything!

ery quiet on the evening I was there, but Zigi and team still created a warm inviting atmosphere. Great cocktails and delicious, very reasonably priced food.

Real rating: 3.5/5
Super nice interior and a great place to have a get together with friends! Zigi the man himself was awesome- Super friendly and energetic! However, the other waitress didn’t seem to know what she was saying half the time...we asked her for wine recommendations and she was very waffly with her answers..The food was decent, the pizza was pretty small but flavour was good.

A great time at Zigi's, good food, good ambiance, I recommend.

I have a really good times with my friends at Zigi's, great atmosphere and cool staff! Large selection of good cheeses, I will come back for sure.
Sepak Industries
The people, the ambient, the service, the food, the cheeses and the drinks are just sensational. They also have wine tasting nights, music nights or just chill out in the back room. The staffs are friendly and makes you feel really welcome as the bar is not too big but there is enough room to stretch out or meet people.

A nice atmosphere with pleasant people. The menu is very diversify and the cheese was good. I will come back at Zigi's. Thank you for this moment

I ordered cheese for 1 person which was $20!! They served 1 slice of cheese for $20!!! I felt totally ripped off 😞 they are taking the absolute piss charging that for 1 slice of cheese.

Innovative delicious food at a very affordable price in Zigis Bar.
I felt the atmosphere very nice, good music and nice people ! The service was very pleasant too.

A very relaxed place, love it !

This is the best place in Chippendale and possibly in Sydney! Art, Cheese and wine.. What can you ask more?! The wine menu always has a distinctive range that you cannot find anywhere for a very good price. The staff is knowledgeable offering an excellent service. The atmosphere is awesome. Every time that I go there I always meet new people and make new friends. There is always something on: events, specials, parties.. There is also a cooking school which I haven't been but I have been told it is very good as Zigi always organises different classes such as Paleo cooking for instance. This is now my favourite bar!

Quirky arty fun with a generous dash of Zigivino! I have organised a few catch ups at Zigis, a table of 10 for European visitors, a girly cheese and wine night out, and catch-ups during the Beams Festival. There is always some event happening at Zigi's, from gallery viewings, to music nights... check Zigi's FB page to keep updated. I am working my way down the Ausraeli inspired menu and I'm always pleasantly surprised, classic falafel prawns are still my favourite.

Friendly staff and great atmosphere! The cocktails are great. The food was very disappointing, it's the reason we have not rushed back. It's worth a look in though.
Best Small Bars
The kind of place you want to like with its friendly staff, art space, cheese and wine. But it's let down by poor execution.

Zigi’s Art Wine and Cheese in Chippendale is a rather cool venue. Its got street art, and a palooza of cooking classes, as well as being a bit of a winebar/cheese destination. Very often, you’ll head upstairs and there’s an art show/exhibition happening which makes this a rather eclectic venue to check out. Both times prior to this molecular cocktail class; we came by for Art. Once was the Beams street festival (which is like a mini Vivid) and then later during Mulga Co’s artshow. Today we’re here for a molecular cocktail class courtesy of Lime and Tonic. That’s Brian our “tutor” for an evening of molecular magic. Just hanging out, in Chippendale. Zigi’s is unmissable! There’s a load of local street artist on display here – Mike Watts, Houl, Keomatch – and there’s a Nico inside. It’s hard to miss this. So here’s the kit here for the class. Left to right, water bath, calcium alganate (sp) some pre-prepped cocktails ready to be processed, scales, and a “micro scale” aka drug dealer scale
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
The name says it all. This is a very diverse place! Even though it's called an Art Wine Cheese Bar it has great food as well with an Ausraeli theme - but adding "Restaurant" may make the name just to long.

Cheese and wine — what more could you ask for, Bar snacks seem reasonably priced and house bottles of wine are only $25, Cooking classes available.
Belly Rumbles
It’s early on a Friday evening and I am finishing my working week at a quaint and cosy wine bar in Chippendale. The entrance is in a small lane off Abercrombie Street. Not exactly a venue you would stumble across without knowing it is there but the Owner Zigi Ozeri has boosted his chances by covering the surrounding lanes with chalk messages to draw you in.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
“Welcome to the house of looove.” Fedora cocked jauntily, and all dapper white shirt, black suspenders and bon mots, Zigi is quick to make you welcome at his eponymous bar. Testament to his background, the menu is dubbed ‘Ausraeli’, and the signature dish is Felafel Prawns ($21).
Food Booze Shoes
A range of classes are available – from cooking three-course meals to much more elaborate cheesemaking – and all can be tailored to the group and budget. Our group of 10 was, aside from mid-morning boozing, cooking a two-course meal with chef Zigi Ozeri and his offsider supervising us in two groups.

I jumped at the chance to spend a few curdling hours in the commercial kitchen at Zigi's Wine & Cheese Bar in Chippendale. Entering via a laneway off Abercrombie Street, we started in the intimate wine bar with our 11am glass of wine. The bar - currently open Thursday to Saturday nights - has a cute concept where if you order wine by the glass when there is no bottle open, you get to choose from the blackboard list of bottles. People ordering by the glass then share your choice until the next bottle. Bar owner Zigi Ozeri is our cheese master of the day, although he's also bar tender, personal chef, cooking class teacher and industry body representative through his normal week. He learnt his cheese trade from Marrickville-based, Italian

Food and wine great as always. I was last here writing a review about 6 months ago. I loved the food and wine then, and......now....I still do. Every time I order food at Zigi's, I'm always so impressed. It's excellent in taste, value and uniqueness. Do yourself and order the falafel prawns. They are to die for. Oh, and they also have about another million items on the menu that rock as well. Try them all - you won't be disappointed. And bravo for also getting the customer service right. Zigi's is a customer-focused establishment that cares about their customers. They will look after you and treat you like family - not like another number...something that restaurants seem to get so wrong these days. Thanks Zigi's!

-----17 Nov, 2014-----

3 things I can't live without: amazing wine, delicious cheese and super-friendly people. So many bars and restaurants in Sydney are lacking in customer service. Sure, there's some amazing food to be had, but often times those same places will leave you feeling like your visit was a bother to them, like they had much better things to do than to serve you. This is NOT the case at Zigi's. From the moment you're warmly-welcomed upon stepping foot into this funky and cool establishment, right to the end when you wish you didn't have to say good-bye at the end of the night, Zigi's delivers on their promise of a one-of-a-kind experience.

Sure, the wine list is really impressive, and the cheese is to die for, but who wants to taste the best wines or stick into the perfectly paired cheeses if they're being offered by unhappy, couldn't be-bothered staff? Zigi and Kristen are front-of-house, as they should be. So many people working in hospitality around Sydney could learn a thing or two from them.

Don't forget to also try the craft beers, unique ciders and other non-cheese menu items. Amazing. Fresh. Unique.

Ok, one last thing - check out the art at Zigi's. The space is great upstairs, showcasing some very talented and unique artists. And....while you're there, maybe try the wine, cheese and food! A little bird told me it's pretty good ;)

Do yourself a favour and check out Zigi's in Chippendale. You can thank me later.

Cheese adventures!. As a cheese lover I'm always on the hunt for a good venue to have a 'cheese'athon'! After trying a few places I realised that it's not just about good cheese, or good wine. It's about the vibe too. Zigi's catered for all that I was looking for in a good night with friends.
Walking into the sneaky little entrance in a graffitied lane way I was greeted by the very charming Zigi himself. Amongst the funky decor and the dimly lit candle light (they make the candles them selfs) my friends and I enjoyed an amazing range of modern Israeli foods and incredible cheeses accompanied by perfectly matched wines (matched by Zigi) and some seriously interesting but very yummy beetroot cider. I have to say they make the best fattoush salad I have ever had which was made all the more enjoyable by the cool relaxed vibe and reggae beats playing in the background.
For an a break from out 'cheese-fest' we then checked out the gallery space upstairs open for viewing and exhibiting a rotation of awesome local artworks by artists looking to share their talents in a wank free environment!
I would definitely recommend it to any cheese lovers looking for a new cheeky little boutique bar to hang out in.

Zigis rocks. This is the third time we've been here. First two times were for a cheese and wine flight (which was great, btw). This time was for a "molecular cocktail" class. Zigi greeted us on our way in (what a great host he is!). We couldn't help but order some cheese and wine to snack in before the class. The truffle pecorino is still my favourite. Zigette behind the bar helpfully advised us of a good wine to have with it.
Then off to the class - a lot of fun. Brian certainly knows his stuff and the cocktails were delicious, although I think a little too complicated for me to make at home. All good though.
Another great night here and I can't wait to get back soon.

Pricey but tasty - great cheese and wine selection and nice atmosphere just overshade the exxy nature of things

Liked it!!!. Just popped in for a quiet drink and a meal with my partner and I must say, this place is kind of a well-kept secret in Chippendale! The atmosphere is just great, lots of art, a relaxed vibe and people can chat while enjoying the menu. We had the "Wine of the moment" which lets you get away if you don't know your wine facts. Highly recommended!

Ouch!. I find it hard for anyone to justify 3 really small pieces of cheese and one bottle of red wine being worth $97.

Sure the cheese was nice but the 3 pieces would not have weighed 150g in total and not sure you couldn't find a equivalent red for a lot less than $58.

Feeling badly fleeced

Wine + Cheese... Need I say more?. There are some things in this in this world that are GOOD by themselves, but paired with the right partner can transform into something AMAZING, like fish & chips, Bonnie & Clyde or Batman & Robin (or my husband and I, he is Definitely better now that he has me haha)... Wine and Cheese is Batman and Robin, they just seem to work better as a team. There is something about those two things that are magical, I mean who DOESN'T like wine and cheese? So imagine our delight upon moving to Chippendale seeing those two words scrawled all over the pavements in chalk on our street! As soon as we had the chance, we followed the chalk arrows In a bid to find this magical 'Wine & Cheese' place. It is tucked away on a neat little side street and at first you might think you're walking into someone's house, unless you're alcoholics like us and know a small bar when you see one. We when walked in we were greeted by a super friendly guy who told us to pick a bottle of wine to open and it would become the 'Wine of the moment' so after telling him the kind of wine we liked, he selected a bottle and poured us a glass, we took a seat while he went and got us a selection of cheese (you can pick your own but it's always more exciting asking him to pick for and you know he will pair it well with your wine). When he came back, he told us the origins of each one and also what to expect when we tasted each cheese. Now, I thought it was going to be good, but I never expected it to be as amazing as it was! The cheeses were insanely delicious and the wine was absolutely divine, having them together was literally orgasmic. We initially intended on going just to quickly check it out, but ended up staying for a very substantial amount of wine and cheese and while we were there, got talking to the owner/ chef, Zigi, he is the most passionate and knowledgeable foodie I have met in a long time and I love someone who is passionate about what they do, we could have spoken to him for hours longer but It was approaching 1am by now, time had flown between all the amazing wine, cheese and conversation we had been there for 4 hours! (and we expected the bill to be a lot bigger than it was too!). Needless to say we have been back on a regular basis after that visit and although we recently moved out of Chippendale we still plan on going back regularly. I just hope all the foodies and the hipster community don't discover this little gem because unlike almost every small bar in the city, you can actually turn up on a Friday or Saturday night and have a seat, which is oh so rare! But I know it is inevitable because of how fantastic it is!

Zigi on the move!!!. I just love the ambience and space - casual but chic. Zigi is very passionate and knowledgeable about food and wine. He pays attention to details and is always exploring and trying new concepts and ideas. His inquiring mind is reflected on his perfect selection of cheese and wine. A great place to drop in and have a glass of wine with cheese after work.

Amazing!!. This place is amazing. Small and intimate with a huge range of local and exotic wines, cheeses and handmade chocolates. Zigi is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about all the products available and the service was second to none. Can't wait to try one of the cooking classes!

Early Days. I love the terrace location at Zigi's and it's a bit too early to say much about it yet. The place is a work in progress, and I know there are plans to expand the downstairs bar, which will make it a much more interesting venue. Right now, I'd enjoy the fact that it's a little hole-in-the-wall kind of place where you can kick back and relax, before the place really gets going. Don't know why there are complaints about value - if you want to keep costs down, you can easily go for the house wines, which are really affordable. And yeah, the upstairs needs more warmth (maybe some retro couches and lounges), but I've met Zigi and this is a place that is going to keep growing organically, so I'd be patient and watch it grow in the months ahead. I'm also curious to check out his cheesemaking and cooking classes, the latter being one of the few progressive (8 weeks) how-to-cook programs in Sydney.

I followed the chalk on the road, very interesting... love the bar style, warm and relaxing and very Melbourne for me and the cheeses...OMG to die for... highly reccomend the Trevo from Portugal and Brie from la rustic- Normandy...yumm
host is very knowledgeable and with heaps of passion... he love his work, wines and his cheeses!
if you around Chippendale on the weekend, get in first as its very packed and there's only 16 seats...

Issi

Good but not great. Location and concept are excellent. Very cute chalk advertising on the pavement around grabbed my attention so it was a must check out. Cosy downstairs room, up stairs is more like a restaurant than a small bar but both lack a little soul. Good wine, and delicious cheese, try the sticky and smelly. Very expensive for what you get. A cheese plate had quite small portions. Very enthusiastic and welcoming host. Overall it was ok but neither cheese nor wine grabbed me enough to go back. With so many options in the area this fell a little short.
