The moment you walk into this place you don't feel like you're in the heart of the city. The decor is all white and fresh. The cuisine is Italian and all the waiters are Italian which makes it seem extra authentic. Food is delicious and servings are quite massive so you won't feel ripped off by the prices. The cocktail list looks incredible so ill definitely be coming back here to try it out.

We came here for lunch, and it was bustling with corporate workers wanting a nicer spot to eat rather than the foodcourt in sit in. However, you don't feel like you're in a food court. Once you step inside the doors, the crisp white walls and clean decor make you feel a million miles from the heart of the CBD. I had the steak which was good, with a side of shoestring fries with parmesan. The menu is Italian with quite limited, but delicious, choices. The wine list is extensive.

The blood orange cocktail was amazing. It was very quiet but we did go on a rainy Tuesday night. The lasagne was nice but a bit salty and the base was all burnt which spoiled it. The food was expensive but we had a voucher deal. I probably won't be back.

Modern Italian food with a twist. I loved the slow cooked beef tagliatelle. Portion sizes are generous so you won't leave hungry. Place was a bit noisy, but all in all it's worth it.

Horrible service. We were the only two people in the place and it took them over 30 mins to take our order.
And then were left to our own accord till we asked to look at desert or top up our water.
Understand why they are empty! Ha.

Crappy service, average food, bad customer service via email and phone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Hungry Vibes Only
Staff here were super friendly and patient. Articulately explained to us different things on the menu when we had some questions and I enjoyed their assistance throughout the night!

Unfortunately the food was a bit of a miss. I found nothing exquisite about the entrees and mains but altogether nothing terrible either. My only memorable dish of the night was the lemon tart at the end for dessert, which I do recommend. It is a bit more on the sour side so if you're not into that, avoid it altogether :(

I bought a Groupon to this late last year (writing s review now because I just started using this) anyway it was the worst dining experience of my life! I can not get over it!!!!!!!! We were seated at the back where there was nobody there, we felt extremely isolated from everyone else and so we asked to change tables but we couldn't cause this was set for us. Note this is a weekday at past lunch time, there were plenty of other tables available and it was only 2 of us. I would totally understand if I was in a big group but I just didn't understand why we couldn't pick our table if there were so many available. We sat on the table for so long until we could get a waitresses attention. We weren't served any water when we asked for some. Maybe because we weren't paying extra for drinks so they refused to serve us properly but after constantly reminding them and trying to get their attention we got our water when we finished our meal. Also one of our dishes that was part of the Groupon never arrived (I think it was a salad) but they just made me feel so uncomfortable I didn't want to ask. We were treated horribly.

The Lemon Tree was the choice for a long Christmas lunch and it was nice enough without being particularly special. The menu and moreso the wine list are not particularly extensive but the choices were not a disappointment with the pasta being the pick of the three courses we had. Table service was good with the staff passing by regularly enough to ensure all was in order. We did hit one snag with the kitchen closed between 4pm and 6pm so dessert was delayed, however we muddle past this with libations and solving the world issues with varying degrees of success.

Came here when it opened. It's like a slice of Greece/Italy in the middle of the city. I love the all white. I ordered the barramundi which was yummo and very simple. The rocket and Parmesan salad was yummo too. It's quite pricey so a good place to come to for a celebration.

Such a pleasant surprise! Cute little restaurant which is absolutely packed on a friday night with city workers. Service was a little slow but the food was delicious - we ordered the calamari to share as a starter and then I had the octopus with kale, pinenuts, olives and mint for main. Honestly some of the best octopus i've ever eaten.

Southern Italian comfort food. Nice place for after-work dinner and drinks. The food menu is short and sweet with a couple of daily specials. The tagliatalle al ragu was a luscious bowl of fresh pasta topped with large chunks of slow-cooked beef and generous shavings of parmesan. The daily gnocchi was a classic flavour combination of pumpkin, sage and pinenuts. The little pillows were light and had a pleasant bite to it. We finished the meal with a really good tiramisu. It had a good balance of sweetness and creaminess, made better by a good dash of liquer. Service was attentive early in the evening but tapered off to non-existent as the night wore on. The place can get a little noisy and rowdy from the surrounding restaurants and bars, so not the best for a quiet dining experience.

Food was nothing special...was expecting so much more for someone who was former head chef of Catalina's

Think outside the box. Very nice venue and funky atmosphere. The staff are lovely and efficient for how busy it is! The food is simple but very tasty!
The wine list is filled with amazing European and local wines, some of them very hard to find in the whole Sydney.
I've noticed the crowd to be mostly suits which explains the harsh and nasty comments in this page.
Highly recommended for a drink in the afternoon (Aperol spritz are fantastic) or a relaxed dinner.
A Foodie's Joy
The Lemon Tree is conveniently located right under Australia Square, smack in the city centre. As a matter of fact it is walking distance from Wynyard station and I had the opportunity to check it out over two visits. I like the look of the little restaurant, it had an alfresco feel to it and certainly reminded me of the southern part of Italy. Which is exactly what was intended. The cuisine is intended to reflect the southern part of Italy and the decor of white chairs, tables and an open air atmosphere certainly does add to the vibe. On my first visit it was lunch time and we arrived just after noon and managed to grab a table at the bar side, i.e. high chairs with a high table. The menu is quite limited and kept deliberately simple. There is the Bar section with dishes such as Rock Oysters, and Sicilian Olives. Primi Plati which is pasta dishes, Contorni (side dishes) such as salads and fries. And obviously there is Dolci for desserts. For lunch we had: Spaghetti E Vongole - this was my dish and I liked the light touch of olive oil, parsley, and fresh chilli to the al dente pasta. The Vongole was nicely cooked but the meat from the clams was a little small for my liking. Lasagne Di Carne - this was a tasty dish, it reminded me of a home cooked lasagne. It was not overly robust but definitely tasty. For dessert we couldn't resist the Lemon Tart. It was sublimely rich in the lemon flavour, tangy yet sweet and super smooth. Delicious! Sorry about the quality of the photo, it got cloudy and I wasn't lucky with my timing of the photo. My second visit was at dinner time and the bar on the other side of the restaurant was full to the brim with drinkers and after hours workers socialising. As a result it was rather noisy and difficult to hear each other. We decided to have a few small plates to share to save room for dessert. Salame - this was quite thickly cut and served with a side of rocket leaves. I would have liked it to be more thinly sliced but that is a personal
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
A little ray of sunshine has burst through the concrete brutalism of Australia Square. Its warmth can be felt in the greeting of Kate McMahon, who brings her expertise (and a martini) from Catalina. Tim Holmes à Court and Daimon Downey, the other two owners, get their own nod on the cocktail list, in the form of a well-balanced Pelicano Martini ($18) . Though, if you ask me, nothing washes away the workday quite like a Negroni ($16) . Chef Peter Streckfuss, also exported from Catalina , dishes up a short menu of simple Italian food using premium ingredients. Pasta portion sizes, like Lasagna Di Carne ($24) , seem geared towards ensuring the predominantly female audience get to eat dessert. And Ilaria’s Ricotta Cake ($14) is certainly a nice way to finish, though perhaps with less of the intensely sweet, floral honey topping. While the wine list has bottles available for around forty bucks, splash out on the 2011 Giant Steps Arthurs Creek Chardonnay ($80/bottle) . It’s a real star, particularly when taken al fresco, sitting under a lemon tree, on a gloriously balmy night. It’ll suit Sydney Rock Oysters ($4.50/each) or stand up to... ...their shared boards of Antipasti ($16/person) , won by perfectly ripe Testun di Barolo cheese. Veal Milanese ($34) will help address any larger appetites. The Lemon Tree Australia Square Piazza, Corner Pitt and Bond Streets, Sydney Ph: (02) 9241 1685

Customer Service isn't here .... Customer Service isn't here

It's a shame that this busy location isn't supported by waiters that show true customer service.

There was no welcome upon arrival and we had a pick our own seat that had the previous customer plates still on there.

The waiter asked if we were having drinks and before we could say we were also having something to eat he said "you know if I give you drinks you have to eat here cause we are a restaurant".

The antipasto plate arrived, we had to ask for bread which was supposed to accompany the platter. The waiter said " I'll bring you bread" and came back with 2 thin slices of bread to share for the whole platter.

We asked for another drink each and as a waiter was pouring my glass another waiter told him to do something else leaving my glass half poured. We called the waiter back to finish the pour, there was no apology.

We saw a few tables leave after their initial greeting with the lead waiter.

Worst Cafe ever been to. Waiter did not say hello, rudely asked what we were having, before we had a chance to look at menu. Stood there at the table waiting, was kind of creepy.
We were there for breakfast, ordering two meals and a coffee. One meal came out 10 minutes before the other, and 15 minutes before the coffee.
The first main was extremely salty (the panini)
The second main was muesli with yoghurt, the ratio was completely wrong, minimal yoghurt with too much muesli, when I tried to mix the two, muesli spilt all over the table.
Another 5 minutes later the coffee arrived, having seen it sitting and waiting to be delivered from the barista's for about 5 minutes.
Found the managers attitude to be extremely unhelpful and non chalant.
Will never return, worst business in Sydney.
Charlotted
Even with low expectations, it was terrible. I had heard the service was slow at The Lemon Tree, but I never imagined it would be this mindless, lethargic and under-staffed. On a HOT summer's afternoon with every table booked, they only had two wait staff and an extremely bitchy and moody-looking hostess. People were waiting impatiently at the front desk, waiting 10-15 minutes to order first drinks and then randomly food came out far too quickly. Our salads were forgotten. $70 bottle of Rose came out warm - ice in my French rose is never acceptable. Both tables behind us were given the wrong orders. The hostess in the meantime stormed around openly glaring at all the staff as if everything was their fault - management are at fault. They have hired junior, untrained cheap staff who think they're 5 star restaurant waiters. I promise you they are not. China is slammed down, no pepper or cheese is offered for their signature pasta dishes.
Avoid this restaurant - It is over-priced and doesn't deserve the Sydney CBD lunch crowd.
Savvy Diner
Good Food, Disgraceful Behaviour. Initially the staff were very attentive however did forget the oysters and had to be prompted, not a big deal in the scheme of things. The mains were very good, I had the Cone Bay Barrramundi, my fellow diners enjoyed, the antipasto plate, spaghetti vognole and the tagliatelle and everyone enjoyed their meal. When it came to desert, 3 of us opted for espresso martinis. Each of us thought that these were extremely bitter. Upon bringing this to the attention of staff, the person who made them came to us and became aggressive and couldn't understand why his customers didn't like what was being served. Then asked did we what them remade, before we could answer he was off to remake them. He returned and insisted we try them. Reluctantly we did so. Same result. In the meantime, one of the other staff was calling out to him from the kitchen in Italian whilst looking at us. This is not how the customer vendor relationship dynamic works. Anywhere. Period. This guy then decided he could make one and proceeded to do so. Then brought it to the table and demanded we try it. I told him no. What did he think he was trying to accomplish. He just kept staring and I think he was trying his best to intimidate. These people acted like spoilt children when told no. They had a tantrum. Will be tellin everyone I know to steer clear. I do hope the owners read this and take note. In short a joke. A pity really as the food and the ambience to that point was good.

Great Venue, Terrible Service. The venue is great and the atmosphere is even better! staff are friendly and the vibe is good!

The service however is awful. Have been twice now on a Friday evening.. if you are sitting on the bar tables.. you may as well be casper the ghost. The staff pay zero attention,, we waited 15 minutes for our first beers.. even worse knowing that they had been poured and sitting on the bar for collection.

The guys waitering on Friday night come across as lazy.. just couldnt be bothered and very forgetful! I sincerely hope that this issue is rectified otherwise it will be a real shame.. there were hundreds of people at Ryans Bar whome I'm certain were being served before us!!!

Squid to Die For!. From the same owners of Pelicano this place is exactly what Australia Square needed. Tried the Squid and it was DELICIOUS! Booking for lunch there again today!
