I’ve tried so many Japanese restaurants in Sydney, no doubt this is the best Japanese food you will ever find in Sydney. Such a cosy place to visit with friends and family. Sad that I cannot share more photos of great food, I had to eat just right after it was served. Good price for amazingly right portion . Also served one by one at just right time to have a decent talk with friends! Everytime I visit Tany’s there’s never disappointing moment.
If you were to visit, try out teriyaki Salmon and all Sushi, you will be able to tell distinct difference from other Japanese restaurants.
This is a really great, homely Japanese restaurant. It is very authentic, much more than others in the vicinity, with a range of different sushi and sashimi. A favourite is the kingfish sushi and gyoza.
Unassuming, homely restaurant with friendly staff. I've been a couple of times and have enjoyed it both times. I especially liked the inari and croquettes! The deep fried whitebait could have been crispier, but otherwise everything was great.
Good value for the lunch special! Teriyaki fish with salad, rice and miso soup for $10. Quick and easy service for lunch breaks. Will definitely come back again. Their today's special menu also caught my eye. They were serving cod yummm
I LOVE this place! I try to go there a few times a week. Great food, prepared quickly and well priced. Tany and Chiyoko are wonderful hosts and their staff are friendly and attentive. I try to have something different each time but especially love the sashimi, gyoza, katsu, tempura udon, okonomiyaki, seaweed salad mm mmm i'm getting hungry thinking about it :)
Great value, lovingly prepared, delicious food. What's not to love?
The food was fantastic – great quality & some excursions from Sydney’s standard Japanese menu. The staff were lovely too, tried out my very basic Japanese on them and we got on like a house on fire. We had sesame spinach, okonomiyaki (on sticks!), avocado roll, agedashi tofu, miso eggplant, tempura asparagus, croquettes and mussels plus miso soup. Next time we go I’m ordering entirely off the specials menu, only saw it *after* we ordered. Tany’s Japanese Cafe 92 Redfern St, Redfern NSW Cost – around $25 per person. Delicious!. I love everything about this place. Simple decor, quick and smiley customer service. VERY tasty food, generous portions - BYO and above all. Cheap. Have been back a few times and my boyfriend has got take away quite a bit too.
Superb. In the style of Jap's Table and Nom. Casual, homely, featuring a variety of small and surprisingly cheap dishes. All the staples such as edamame, gyoza, agidashi tofu, sashimi, are superb. Fresh, light, with a personal twist. We order new things from the specials menu every time and are never disappointed. Service is swift and friendly, and there is excellent sake, with advice for the one appropriate.
We usually walk down to Thaitown/Chinatown to eat like kings for nothing. But now it's on our doorstep.
Tany's is in the shop where Drylands set up. They didn't last. I hope Tany's does - they are just about the best in the neighbourhood.
Excellent food, always fresh sushi, friendly owner couple, what can you ask for more??????
My wife and I discovered Tany's a few months ago and we have been regulars since. We loved it so much the first night we went 3 nights in a row. Shinji is a master sushi chef and all sea food is bought fresh. We love many of the dishes but our favourites are okonomyaki, vege gyoza, mussels in sake, school prawn karaage and ohitashi. Some of these are specials and subject to availability. Chyoko is a lovely host, the service is top notch, the food great and very well priced.
Been here twice. Simple but delicious food, lovely fresh ingredients, excellent service. Very reasonably priced!
We had sushi set and Teriyaki beef set.
All the set menu comes with a small udon noodle & miso soup.
Not bad at all. it was well presented so we were satisfied for quick dinner.
Although only the kingfish sushi wasn't that fresh that's why we are giving 4 stars.
The Teriyaki beef was more than standard.
but the house sake was too strong as not matched with the food and we couldn't get any table water.
We should've got some white wine!
Enjoyed!:) xX
The food was amazing and had great value, was blown away by the great serving sizes. All in all, 10/10 would definitely eat here again!
Low in price and high in quality. Fantastic authentic Japanese food and drinks with friendly and fast service. There’s an extensive menu with a diverse range of options catering for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. Expect sushi, udon, wagyu, curries, sashimi, gyoza and some very tasty bento box options. There is a selection of Japanese beers (the matcha IPA comes highly recommended), sake and local wines, as well as a few delicious Japanese desert dishes. Tanya has become one of my favourite restaurants in the area!
