Rating 3.5 It’s definitely an institution for Asian seafood. This also mean that you pay top dollars for them. We came when the world was still “normal”, I’m glad we did despite being sceptical of the value for money. Their signature Singapore Chilli Crab is that good! 🦀 The other dishes were good too but the crab was definitely a stand out. Service was bit slow and prices very steep, but we all enjoyed the meal.
Really enjoyed our night out at this legendary establishment. Relax with a couple of beers, put on your bibs and really dig in! The crabs are enormous and succulent and you'll be licking every last drop of sauce from your fingers!
You can't go wrong with this place, it has been open since the '80s and Harry is such a legend.
Sit down, don your bib and order a bucket of beers.
Get the house special crab with Singapore chilli sauce and everyone stops talking.
You will thank me later!
Great crab and flavour. I had the Singapore chilli blue swimmer crab, medium hot. It was just the right amount of heat from the sauce, and the crab was great.
Extensive menu full of fresh seafood and other dishes. We ordered the fried rice, eggplant (which is a must) and the prawns. Staff are friendly and polite.
I really enjoyed my experience here. It was unfortunate because I wanted to try the spiciest level of chili crab but we had friends that could not take too much spice, so we settled with level 3. The sauce had a lot of flavor and we had other dishes that tasted really good as well. Service was prompt and I would come back here on special occasions.
After almost 30yrs in Sydney, I’d never been and have no idea why not. The decor is shabby, the place is on busy Elizabeth St, on a non-descript corner.
Our party of 8 is given the private room in the front, which is sort of lovely, but also very fishbowl from the street.
The waiters are the real deal, with very limited English.
We start with san Choy bow chicken - really good. And some pork dumplings. They were ok, but lacked the delicious chilli condiments of din Tai Fung. The chilli salt n pepper calamari was yum. The vegetarian spring rolls were however all mush inside.
Then the honey king prawns - these are utterly superb. So tasty, crunchy, fresh.
Singapore noodles were tasteless and bland. Steamed broccoli and chicken similarly flavourless.
But these are all a dress rehearsal for the main event - all be upstanding for the King - szechuan chilli mud crab. Truly exquisite. Crab is fresh, flavours are bountiful, the chilli warm but not oppressive, and the Szechuan pepper it’s delightful numbing self. Reminds me of a Linkin Park song. This is a must do. The roti to soak up the sauce is ethereal - like a hand in a glove.
Expensive, certainly, but you get what you pay for. This is tops.
If you like Singapore Chilly Crabs then look no further than Harris Singapore Chilly Crabs in Sydney's CBD. I had the curry styled preparation extra extra hot and spicy (didn't realize how spicy it was then but do now). Taste it with pan fried buns - delicious! Staff are friendly. Remember - Crabs don't come cheap - so a main meal might set you back by about $200 (with alcohol). Also, remember it's a BIG meal so come with friends to share the experience. Mind you - eating crab is a messy affair - but the staff will look after you!
Been here previously, didn't disappoint the first time and didn't disappoint this time either. The Singaporean chilli mud crap was delicious. The waiter advised us of the price of the crab/kilo prior to putting through our order (same procedure as the last time we went) everything else was fairly priced. The dishes came out hot, freshly cooked/fried and relatively fast. The staff were very attentive and polite. It was very humid today, so depite the air conditioner, the walk to the restaurant had us hot. The staff noticed, without us saying anything, and adjusted the AC. There's been some renovation since the last time we were here, it all looks very classy. Will go again.
Have been here a few times. While the price point is a little on the high side for me personally, I do enjoy the food and ambience.
Very convenient location as well.
This is supposed to be a legendary place for recreating the Singapore chilli crab magic. The ambience of the place is below average, service is reluctant. Food was nice but I expected a lot better
Stopped by randomly at this restaurant for dinner while on a road trip around Sydney with the family and without exaggeration, the meal and experience utterly surpassed my expectations.
The chilli crab was full of meat and was served with a side of crispy buns with a soft centre to soak of the sauce. The steamed fish with shallots was soft and succulent and almost melts in your mouth.
The restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere with top tier service, the waitress brought trays to put the crab shells in and the water used to wash our hands after eating the crab was refreshed multiple times throughout the meal.
Needless to say, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant and will be coming here more often!
I tasted the famous Singapore Chilli Crab for the first time at waterfront restaurant Jumbo in Singapore back in 2009 and have been looking out for it in Sydney ever since. Seven years later I finally had the opportunity to visit inner-city institution Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab founded by Mr. Harry Lau in 1982.
Nobody is throwing these 'shrimps' on the barby! No these bad boys are lightly fried with some delicious Asian spices and don't even need to be peeled!🙊🍤 I'm quite certain that @harryschillicrab has some of the most interesting flavoursome dishes around👌🏻Do try the duck!🦆 @mybondisummer #mybondisummer
This place is famous for their crabs and now I know why. The crabs are so tasty! The buns were amazing too especially when dipping them into the crab sauce! Yummmm!
I had passed this restaurant many a times and saw lots of people tucking into a fresh mud crab 🦀 and always eyeballed it off!
I got to tuck into one finally. The menu obviously concentrates on seafood however there are other things on the menu including meat, vegetarian dishes, noodles, and rice. The dishes we had tonight were Salt & Pepper Calamari which was crispy and had a spicy kick to it. The Garlic Sauce Mixed Vegetables were nice and crunchy with a nice sauce. The highlight was the Live Queensland Mud Crab surrounded by a delicious Chilli Sauce. I was expecting to be fiery but it mild for me which was great as I don't like it too hot. The sauce was so yummy that the accompanying Fried Bun (mantou) was perfect to soak it all up! The fact you get to select your own live crab is great as it so fresh. There was also a photo wall with celebrities that have visited this establishment.
The service was excellent and welcoming. They were helpful without being overbearing. They have an extensive drinks list with a full bar. The bartender will make your drinks with flair. We had a Mojito and Singapore Sling as well. Both were great. They are also about to introduce their branded wines (working with selected wineries). The white wines will go well with the seafood as it will be crisp and refreshing.
The Next Rush
These guys do excellent crab and prawn Singapore style. Just the right amount of flavour to remind you of Singapore. The kangkung and other vege dishes are prepared pretty well too. Worth a visit if you are a crab lover.
I've eaten Singaporean chilli crab many times. In SINGAPORE. Hehe. So suffice it to say, I'm a little fussy with my singapore chilli crab. So I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the crab was here. Fairly authentic and definitely a fantastic spot when I get chilli crab cravings! The mantou, both steamed and deep fried, were on point, and the cereal prawns were delicious. Oh and I absolutely loved the sambal kangkong which is one of my favourite things to eat. The service was also very good, friendly and professional. Very happy with the family dinner I had here.
Be prepared to get down and dirty at Harry's. after wanting to go for a long time finally went for hubby's birthday.
Wait staff will help you navigate the size of crab you need, what sauce to have and what sides. We got a Singapore chilli mud crab with buns and roti (delicious!!) and also a salt and pepper crab which was amazing too
Hubby isn't a big crab fan so we got him a platter - for what you get at $98 for the platter I'm gonna say it was a rip off. We got some other bits and pieces and everything was lovely
Only the platter was a let down but crab was amazing!

Second visit and Ive left a lot more happier, Food isn’t too bad, but I’d say stick to what they’re famous for and you can’t go wrong .
Possibly amongst the best Crab houses around but in the same breath I found the service a little lacking. Maybe it was an off night, who knows ?
So I think I'll focus on the positives, the crab its led cooked wonderful with the flesh melting in your mouth. The spices and curries add to the flavor delivering an authentic experience you'll not forget
Oh by the way....don't wear white lol
Harry's Singapore Chilli Crab is a stones throw from where it was originally set up on Elizabeth St near Central station. This place is one of Sydneys most famous restaurants, the place is a Sydney dining institution. The restaurant has a modern feel. The staff were great: very friendly and welcoming.
The restaurant is a family run business that has been operating for over 35 years and in that time specialising in Singapore Chilli crab. They know a thing or two about picking the best crab. You can get hands on, feel the weight of the crab. We were educated on where the crabs came from, some of the best being from North Qld. There are a number to choose from. Apparently the heavier for the size the better.
We picked our Crab and ordered some sides and drinks. The drinks list was extensive with cocktails, beer and a quality wine list. Traditionally we had to order a Singapore sling which was the goods and a tiger beer which is the perfect drink to go with the Singapore chilli crab.
Our sides came out fist and were all extremely tasty, they were perfect to whet the appetite. We ordered the prawn hargow (a steamed dumpling) which were quality with a delicate prawn filling, we also had garlic vegetables and roti awaiting the chilli crab sauce. The roti was great and perfect to dip in the crab sauce. When the mantou(sweet chinese steamed buns) came out, anticipation grew. When the crab artived it did not disapoint, a large crab served in a huge bowl swamped with a extremely flavoursome Singapore chilli sauce, with a great balance of spice and sweetness it was delicious. The crab served already cracked, making your job easier. Get elbow deep, pick the sweet crab meat out and enjoy. A great dining experience, as good, if not better than what we tried in Singapore. We will return for the crab and to try more of the menu.
Harry's is a Sydney must! If you're going to eat crab, you've got to eat it here. We had the chilli crab and traditional crab and both were as delicious as each other. The crab meat is aplenty and its succulent, fresh and delicious. The mussels and greens made a great accompaniment and make sure...
I had SO MUCH FUN at Harry's today! I must admit, this was my first time experiencing crab this way and I'm a bit of a crab novice.
I literally only want to eat chilli crab for the rest of my life, it was so damn delicious, packed serious flavour and I absolutely devoured the roti and fried bun - yes that's right, fried bun; it was like a glorified donut that soaked up my leftover crab sauce.
I definitely needed the full body bib, sauce was dripping from my wrists whilst eating and it was all totally worth it. The traditional crab was a bit too peppery for me, but I can definitely still appreciate its flavour.
I can't wait to come back in a big group and show them the Harry's experience.
I tried Harry's a few years ago and loved it & they've turned it up even more since relocating & renovating the new space. The food is still as amazing. The chilli crab really takes the cake. While the sauce is quite mild it is full of flavour and compliments the crab perfectly. It was so delicious we had to order extra roti to wipe up all the sauce. We also tried the pepper crab which again was really tasty. Highly recommend this place for any crab lover.
Drove past the old Harry's above the pub for decades & assumed it was just a tourist trap. Went to the Elizabeth St restaurant for the first time this weekend and wow, the signature Singapore Chilli mud crab was awesome.
The crab was meaty & well-cracked but the chilli sauce it came in was totally moreish. It wasn't just chilli - a savory sauce with tomato, onion, plenty of egg, it was good enough to eat by the bowl on its own & we did. Highly recommend the roti & fried bread to dip into it. There are lots of crab flavours on the menu, but for the first time you should try the classic chilli - it's famous for a reason. The default medium isn't all that hot, or you can ask for mild.
It's a messy business but Harry's caters for it well, everyone gets their own set of tongs & a plastic apron, & plenty of napkins & bowls for shells & water. It's not a dainty meal & you might want to skip wearing your formal clothes & fancy rings, but I haven't had such a delicious eating adventure for a long time, come with people you can have fun with!
Crab is the thing here & I'd stick to the beaten track on the rest of the menu. The salt & pepper calamari was great, scallops & ginger/shallots were good (not on the shell, but nicely trimmed of roe), chicken san choy bow was well executed. You can get jugs of watermelon juice or cocktails, & if you order a beer they'll cleverly leave a whole bucket of them next to your table.
The service was obliging & friendly, quite different to what I've come to expect at busy Asian restaurants, & the food came fast. Live mud crab is never going to be a cheap eat, but 4 of us including 2 ravenous post-teenage boys ate ourselves silly for less than $300 including beers, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality.
Interestingly on that night Harry's mud crab market price was $88/kilo - just the week before at Golden Century it had been $149/kilo. Hmm. I know prices change every day but that's a big difference. We'll definitely be back to Harry's!
LOVE IT !!!! GO ASAP !!!! We told Waitress Rachel to order for us and she did a cracking job! Harrys Singapore Chilli Crab was super fresh and very meaty and that sauce will make you cry... it was sensational. The Salt and pepper calamari was so tender and cooked perfectly. We asked for Harry then 15 minutes later he arrived on his push bike! He is the best!

First time visit and I did not know this place has been in operation for a long time! Rachel who was our waitress ordered on our behalf so she got most of their signiture dishes. We got the famous Chilli crab, salt & pepper calamari, pipi's, green veggies and steamed and fried mantou! ahhh Yum! All these dishes were superb! We got our chilli crab mild because i can't handle too much heat and it was amazing! I would have to say it would be one my first times trying chilli crab. That sauce - such goodness that you can just dip roti into. Love this place! We even got to meet Harry who arrived in his bicycle - too cute. Big thank you to Harry and his wife and helpful staff.
There are only few times where you really enjoy a crab. And this was definitely one of them!!!! Ordered the salt and pepper calamari to start, they were full of flavour and interestingly different to other places in Sydney. We then ordered the signature Harry's Singapore chilli crab, these guys take their crabs seriously! The crab was fresh from North Queensland. The director took his time to explain which crabs they select and where they're from. 1 crab between two is plenty. The taste was unbelievable highly recommend it for any occasion. The experience and service was outstanding too. And you can really see the hard work they put into their fit out. Would definitely come back here again!
Harry's is a must visit, even if it's just for the experience. If you are a crab lover, definitely check this place out. You sit down, wear a bib, and get to work. (It's going to be messy, so don't wear your best dress.)
Because I wanted to try out most of the food from the menu, but didn't know where to start.. With a group of 6, we went for their Executive Banquet menu at $60 a head, which was pricey but then again, all the dishes that came out were each delightfully delicious and in large quantities - so it was definitely worth it. We were left extremely full and well-fed by the end of our food journey!!!
Their Quagzhou Salt and Pepper Calamari was AMAZING.. Garlic king prawns, peking pork spare ribs, and their delicious roti.. All mouth-watering. But the highlight was of course the Chilli Crab (you can choose mild chilli if you don't like it too hot) which was soo incredibly JUICY and tasty - and the sauce from this Chilli crab, can be used with the Roti that comes with the banquet, you soak that roti in that sauce.. and you soak your soul with all that yumminess.
Would I recommend Harry's Chilli Crab to my friends? You bet! The service was great too, and prime location right next to Central Station. I don't know what the negative reviews are about, but my experience here was completely positive, and I'm craving Chilli Crab right now just from writing this review!!
Good food (but a little pricey) and attentive staff. It was a fun dinning experience that everyone was wearing a plastic bib to eat mud crabs.
We found the food was quite heavy (salty), it definitely good for people who have heavy palate.
Old school. I have never seen such looks of intense concentration on diners' faces. Then again, I have never seen so many grown men wearing bibs either. Yes, we finally got the chance to try that Sydney institution Harry's Singapore Chilli Crab restaurant, and we made the most of it. After some debate we decided to forego tasting the eponymous dish and ordered a platter of salt and pepper crabmeat instead. It was nice but I think we made a mistake - it would have been better to have ordered one of the classic combos as the salt and pepper overwhelmed the crab a bit. The balmain bugs with ginger shallots and noodles were great however, easily the best dish of the evening. Other winners were the mixed veggies with garlic sauce (would knock vampires dead within a 500 mile radius) and the char kway teow. The salt and pepper oysters were good but again we would have been better to try a different sauce. One dish that was a miss was the tofu - the batter was too heavy and it didn't have the gorgeous silken texture that I love in this dish. All up we enjoyed our meal. But it is pricey so somewhere to order carefully. Our thanks to Harry's who significantly subsidized our feast.
Harry’s Chilli Crab restaurant in the CBD is quite an experience, its simple but the flavours have sensational depth. I went to this restaurant and had 3 meals, the food was perfect, the mud crab was pricey but worth it, you will remember the quality long after you have forgotten the price. The staff were friendly and the service was quick and very attentive. I loved it! The menu has an absolute delight with a creative and innovative variety of exquisite flavours, the food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Apart from the Chilli Mud Crab, I also ordered Salt and Pepper Calamari which was good, but the Chilli Lingfish exploded with flavour. This restaurant is very warm welcoming, I highly recommend it, I know I'll certainly be returning soon.
I went to Harry's Singapore Chilli Crab for dinner, I had Chilli Mud Crab the crab was very delicious. I also had Singapore Crispy Chicken which was also outstanding. The service was fantastic and I didn't have to wait long for my order. Undoubtedly the best crab in the Sydney City, every course is well balanced. Great experience and absolutely delicious. Try it at least once in your life.
Place looks like a 1980 Chinese restaurant but that not the point. I love Singapore chilli crab, I have had it in Singapore dozens of times and crave it. This place gets it exactly right and is the only place in Aust that does. Boxes of live mud crab greet you at the door, you choose you crab and the rest is history. If you love chilli crab go here.!
Nice environment, unique food especially the crab with different source selections and nice boss. Unforgettable experience and will be worth to share the moment with someone special.
Unique Singaporean style chilli crab , easy to access location, great environment. Definitely one of the best restaurants in town. Worth a try!

Is my first time here and just love it. Delicious food. The best Chilli crab in Sidney. The staff is really friendly. I'm sure I wi be back
Had a look those reviews, some good some bad.
So brought a friend to there for a night.
Had a black pepper crab instead of chilli,( not a big fan of sweet)
The Crab was fresh & the sauce was amazing!
The cost of crab was reasonable if you compare to those live crabs for $69/Kg in the fishmarket.
Look forward to try out the curry crabs as the waiter strongly recommend.
Best chilli crab in Sydney. A little expensive but certainly delicious. Atmosphere is nice and restaurant is well presented. Very friendly staff. Would definitely go again. For a table of 6 I would suggest 2 medium size crabs (1.5kg) to leave satisfied
We had a lovely dinner at Harry's. We had the Singapore chilli mud crab, cereal prawns & salt and pepper calamari. All nice, esp the crab it was tasty, juicy & it had a nice kick! The mud crab was $98 per kilo, I found this to be an average price for the city area, though it would probably be cheaper out west. It's definitely hard to find good Singapore chilli crab in Sydney, we will be back for more soon!! :)
Good food ,good service.. I have had occasion to visit Harry's twice in the last month and on both occasions could not fault the food or the service. The last occasion was a party of 16 and we all agreed it was good food and a fun night.
The entrees of calamari and prawns were delightful and plenty for everyone. The Chilli Crabs were just superb, and the roti bread was ideal for mopping up the sauce. We found Harry's no more expensive than many of the restaurants in Sydney, and eating a fresh chilli crab dressed in a plastic apron was such a lot of fun. Harry's has been there for many years , so must be doing something right. We will certainly be visiting again and so will our friends.
To be honest, it is only the crabs that are really worthwhile here but they are so worthwhile It is simply a must to try here. The only thing I could say that is not favorable is that the chili scale, 5 to 10, 10 being the hottest on offer, it was still pretty mild even tho you will be advised that 10 is burning hot. Other than that this place is brilliant!
We had salt and pepper blue swimmer crab as chilli crab was too expensive and it was fiddly but quite good. Roti was a disappointment as it had no sauce .
There two things in this restaurant that are a must try the chilli crab and the roti, dunk the roti in the sauce for the best this place has to offer. Don't bother with the rest of the menu. Be prepared to pay slightly higher than the market price for the crab.
Expensive, but worth it. It's misleading by the appearance of the restaurant but the food was delicious. I high recommend the singapore chilli crab!
Always love Singapore chilli crab but didn’t find any restaurants that can do same or similar like in Singapore….. until I tried Harry’s which recommended by friends. The crabs were so fresh and taste was sooo good. They have many options for crabs, highly recommended the black paper crab, it brings you back to Singapore.
A great place to go to satisfy your crab cravings. I've been there 5 years ago to get the signature Singapore chilli crab and it was delicious. This time we ordered 3 different styles: salted egg, garlic butter and XO mud crabs. I must say that the XO was the best by far, in this place I recommend staying with the classics and if you want different flavours, choose a different place. Despite crab season the price was high but the crabs were meaty, sweet and cooked perfectly.
Exceptionally great services. Best Singapore Chilli Crab I have ever had. Finally find somewhere to eat here in Sydney that reminds me same level of tastes in Singapore
Excellent Singapore and Black Pepper Chilli crab paired with none other than Singapore's very own Tiger beer (and/or a Singapore Sling). Brought back memories of many nights at Boat Quay and Clarke Quay for me! 👌🏽
First time been here, the food is outstanding and service is awesome. Recommending the Singaporean chilli crab, garlic and butter prawns. Probably the best Seafood restaurant I’ve ever been to in Sydney. Highly recommended and will come back for sure!
The taste of chilli crab is fantastic! I’d say its even better than what I tried in Singapore before! Highly recommended and will definitely visit again! The shrimp and squid is also must try!

From the moment we entered service was on point. We were politely welcomed & taken to our table for the night. Ordered our food and what a treat! Every single dish we ordered was packed with juicy deliciousness & oh so scrumptious! We booked here to kick of our mums 60th birthday weekend and what a start it was. The renowned mud crab (Mums special request), blue swimmer crab, Singapore noodles & caramelised pork thrown in with some drinks and it’s the best combo! The staff were so attentive and always on it, made the experience so enjoyable. An amazing, quaint spot on Elizabeth Street. Definitely will be back…
