Excellent service, served by a really friendly guy called Diego. Yummy food and beautiful decor and dark warm atmosphere :) The tacos were really small and not really worth $7 each but the loaded chips, quesadillas and chilaquiles were all good sized portions and worth it
On a Friday evening, barrio cellar was very vibrant, packed full of people. I came here with my friend who was visiting Sydney from Newcastle. I ordered the hamburgesa burrito. I was so pleased with this decision because it was so filling! Everything about it was perfect. There was so much flavour and lots of sauce, to my liking. The portion is pretty big. I did not even have any of my chips that came on the side because I was so full after eating the burrito. My friends helped me out eating the chips.
The only feedback I have is that it was too dark and noisy. I prefer places that are well lit so you can at least see what you are eating. At 7 pm it was just too noisy inside. I found it hard to hear the people at my table.
I would have given a higher mark for service if we didn't have to wait at the till for the waiter to work out how to use the machine.

With weekday specials, Barrio Cellar is both delicious and affordable. Enjoy $10 burgers on a Monday, $3 tacos on a Tuesday and half a dozen wings for $6 on a Wednesday. That’s dinner done for three out of the seven.
This buzzy basement space off Elizabeth Street is relaxed and welcoming, billed as a ‘late night tequileria and eatery’. The food is fresh, serving everyone’s Mexican and Southern Californian favourites – try the quesadillas, jalapeño poppers or loaded fries. And the drinks list is not for the faint hearted, with a hectic selection of cocktails, tequila and mezcal.
Oh and did I mention there’s a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights?
Great for weekday happy hours and casual dates! Got me at the neon sign at the entrance leading to the dimly lit basement that says “Everything with Tequila”. After all, who can’t use some tequila on a Tuesday after work? Their Taco Tuesday deal is quite good - $3 for chicken, portobello, black beans, and fish tacos. Unfortunately the prawn and cheeseburger tacos are not part of the deal and cost a premium $7. The fish taco was good but could use a little more sauce. My favorite is the portobello! Very tasty and the proportion of the portobello is just right. The tacos are on the smaller side (I had 5 and was nowhere near full), and the drinks are pricy but nothing special. Of the cocktails, I recommend the Fiesta de Luces (honeydew Margarita) if you like fruity drinks.
I'd describe Barrio Cellar as a secluded underground Mexican oasis in the CBD. As it happens, this is a really cool idea for a cultural restaurant, as it really feels like you're in another world due to its hidden nature. Food tastes authentic and staff are very friendly. Atmosphere is made intimate with a dim, hot red light, and as you'd expect, the entire place is decorated with Mexican decor and artwork. Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in Sydney!
Great venue with a lovely ambience. It was Taco Tuesday, so $3 Tacos! Overall the service was great, with delicious food for great value, and very attentive staff.
Amazing service - especially from the bar manager Sam. The food was great and seasoned well. I recommend the classic chips + guacamole plus Tommy’s margarita. My friends ordered fish tacos and churros which they said was delicious.
Stopped by on Friday night for a few drinks & dinner. We got there a bit early, and our table was occupied, but they were able to give us a different table instead. Not sure whether they are aiming to be a bar or restaurant, the music was super loud & pumping, we got a high bar table, so not the most comfortable dinner setting. Their menu though was much more extensive then a bar. Pretty standard Mexican offers. We got a couple of burgers (fried chicken & hamburguesa) and a jug of sangria. The burgers were solid good, but nothing particularly stand out, the fries were moorish with the chilli mayo, the sangria refreshing but padded up with too much ice. Overall, a good way to kick off the weekend.

Came here on a Saturday night for one of the girls' birthday's and OH WHAT A NIGHT! Let me just say that "everything DEFINITELY starts with tequila"! Such a great night filled with delicious food, amazing tequila and a fantastic atmosphere! We got the "grandes" set menu, and you definitely get your bang for your buck with this one! I would definitely return to do it all over again! The ceviche and the tuna tostada were yummy! The street style corn cobs were DELICIOUS (so delicious to the point that half the people who don't even like corn LOVED it), the southern fried crispy chicken was scrumptious, the BABY BACK PORK RIBS WERE SO MOUTH WATERING THAT YOU WOULD GO BACK EVEN JUST FOR THEM, and the quesadillas and taco's were amazing too (although by this point, we had had so much tequila that we were beyond full- and too busy dancing around having a good time to eat them as they came out), and you can't forget the churros's with dulce de leche which were DIVINE!!!! There was also a sneaky salad in there, but I don't generally make friends with salad so unfortunately I didn't give it a try. But let me say- TEQUILA WAS DELICIOUS and food was amazing! WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

Nice place for a get together with friends. ✌@foodiesguidetosydney
Slightly small sized portions of food, ok bar food with drinks. I should've tried the burgers.....I guess there is always next time. Food and drinks didn't take long to arrive which is also a plus.
Thankfully didn't take long to get shown to a table (Thurs night) which is good as I have tried to go here another time (Fri night) and it was super packed with the after work drinks crowd.
An awesome inner city spot for a taco fix. It's got a cool moody vibe, and the tacos are on point. Went for a quick work lunch and enjoyed a lil feast of guac and chips, pork crackling and then all of the tacos! Biggest points for the beef ones!
For dessert I had the churros ice cream sandwich which is just a beautiful creation! Comes covered in dulche de leche and packed with ice cream.
This place has one of the best ambience in Sydney. We visited this place on a Monday evening and it was packed. A nice lively feeling as soon as you enter the place. We had a reservation so did not have to wait much, and a host was with us immediately. The starters and drink were served pretty quickly, although the burgers took their time. The mushroom burger and sweet blue bacon burger were the standouts. These burgers would be among the best if served in a burger joint let alone a Mexican pub. The tacos were a let down, they were fairly cold and chewy and not a good experience.
Overall, the food and cocktails at the current pricing offer a good value and anyone looking for a quick bite with a pint or cocktail should definitely look to visit.
Work knows I don't join them for lunch unless burgers are involved. So they've taken to letting me decide the lunch locations because that way I can't pull out.
The staff are friendly and quick on their feet. I ordered the fish burger last time and it was seriously good - I didn't really expect it. The buns were cold though, and if they'd been warmed up even slightly that would've been nicer.
Someone ordered the Hamburguesa with bacon, but it didn't come with the bacon...so they brought over an extra cup of bacon, went back to check the order and realised they hadn't charged us for the bacon, and asked us to pay up. XD That was awkward because he didn't have the $2 cash...only $1.50. You could tell the waiter was hella embarrassed to ask for the money too.
Excellent location, good service and tasty food...what more can one want? Oh I know, some trust on their customers so they don't have to ask you to give them your credit card and license to hold, while you eat and drink at the table!
Quite an unusual practice in Australia and it didn't really warm my cockles, after having been asked to hand over the cards.
If you don't mind that, it's quite a good Mexican place where the pescada and mushroom tacos as well as the prawn quesadilla was scrumptious!
Great place for after office hangout. We reached just before 6pm on a Thursday which means we still had 10mins to order happy hour margarita and beer. Along with the drinks we ordered chips and guaca: chips were a little oily but guacamole was good. Next we ate chicken Taco which were fine (nothing exciting but not bad too). Last we ordered corn with cheese: the staff was kind enough to split the corn cob into two for us. The corn tasted yum! The lights are dim but the place has a good vibe. Would recommend for after office drinks at martin place.
Barrio delivers the goods, good burgers, good music and incredible atmosphere. The blue cheese Mayo on the burger I got was unbelievable. Worth a shot!
The service was great in this little unassuming cellar where the Latina vibe was strong. Strongly seasoned fries loaded with carne asada and a triple beef bacon cheeseburger with blue cheese sauce and dulce de leche iced the cake! Definitely recommend!!

Tequila, Mexican food, burgers. What more do you need?! Funky little venue underground in Martin Place. Plays good music and the kitchen is open super late. Drinks aren't cheap, but the quality of what you can get makes it worthwhile. A must visit.

Nice basement cellar restaurant & bar close to my office. Came here for lunch with a few colleagues and had the hamburguesa, which had everything you want in a burger. Will definitely try the other items on the menu in the foreseeable future!
WOW what a great place to have a quiet night (said no juan ever). This place was a killa on a Friday night and great food to company our hardcore tequila cocktails, they are definitely not stingy on giving you tequila here!! I also loved how each other their dishes had spices in it, even their chips!! Awesome stuff
Herradura Tequila Tasting Barrio CellarBarrio Cellar located in the Sydney CBD is easily one of our favourite places in Sydney City for drinks and eats (with one of our favourite burgers in Sydney to boot – see sidebar). We pop in today for a free Herradura Tequila Tasting Session with Stuart Reeves and enjoy some fine company.
Went here for lunch. Delicious!!!! Hamburger and chips for $16 isn't too bad for the city either. Burger was on point, with jalapeños and chipotle mayo. Seemed like they had some great specials and the kitchen is open late! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a comfort meal over your lunch break or are stumbling around the CBD late one night. My friend got the bacon wrapped hot dog. Was also a winner by the sounds of it. Taste: 4/5Value: 3.5/5Service: 4.5/5Overall: 4/5Close competitor is "Burger Bro?" next door.
$3 taco Tuesday's. All delicious but especially the fish taco and the vegetarian option. Excellent service and very understanding when it came to what a pregnant woman could eat. Definitely will be back.
Barrio cellar has a really cute interior design and the basement feel makes it feel pretty exclusive. Loved the neon "tequila with everything" sign when you walk in and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. Came here on a friday night where it was absolutely packed so best to reserve a booth and then again on weeknight (taco tuesday), had no problem getting seated but the food took a while. We ordered one of each of the meat tacos, at only $3 a pop. Personally thought the carne asado was the best!
Tequila and tacos? How could you go wrong? These were the thoughts going through my head as I made my way to Sydney’s new tequila bar, Barrio Cellar. After opening its doors only last month, Barrio Cellar’s success is already evident. Even on a Wednesday night the bar was surprisingly full of friends and colleagues sharing their hump day drinks.
This place is quite a gem. Located in a basement - it feels rather exclusive and sexy walking down the stairs to the main area. The menu is varied with great food options to choose from. I highly recommend the fried olives - they were coated and fried in a delicious spice yet so fresh and crisp on the inside. Having dined on a Monday night - take advantage of the $10 tortas special ! I ate the Hamburguesa and it was bomb.
Such a darling space with a great food menu, interesting and pretty cocktails, perfect for a midweek escape. The staff were super friendly and engaged with us at the bar and during table service. We ordered the deep fried olives, ceviche and guacamole as a share entree - each more delicious then the last with the olives being a highlight for me. My main was a Mexican style hotdog (which included a bacon wrapped sausage - amaze) and dessert was a melty amazing blob of dulce de leche ice cream sandwiched between churro patties. Perfect a group mid week dinner for some good old hands on food.
Barrio Cellar is Sydney’s newest basement bar in the CBD. The team behind Barrio Chino and Fei Jai have sprawled into the city with their new venue just off Martin Place on Elizabeth Street; the old Spice Cellar. Neon lights demanding “Everything With Tequila” and a dark staircase allure you downstairs where you will find a sleek, architecturally pleasing bar. Geometric designs fill the bar from the lights to the furniture. After-work drinkers fill the venue drinking cocktails and ordering tacos.
Barrio Cellar is located underground in Martin Place away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is Sydney CBD. The ambience is a great combination of after-work and casual drinks with stools and booths for larger groups.

Margaritas, a mariachi band and a Naked Lady in each hand... what more could you ask for on a Wednesday night?Overtaking Spice Cellar's spot on Elizabeth Street is Barrio Chino's new venture – Barrio Cellar: a late night Mexican cantina bar that trades until 3am.At Barrio, the focus is on tequila – just in case the massive neon 'Everything with Tequila!' sign in the entrance didn't give it away
I'm a huge fan of the Potts Point Barrio so decided to check out this new joint after work. Similar to PP , but underground . They play on the basement vibe well. Good service . We had beers and the burger. The burger was seriously tasty - one of my Top 5 in Sydney for sure. My only complaint was there wasn't a great atmosphere ( i.e. not a lot of other people there which made it sorta weird for a CBD watering hole ), but they are new so I am sure it will pick up. Will return, nonetheless.
The food was so yummy. The tacos were delicious and so were the empanadas!!
Went on a Saturday night and the bar turned into a spanish club, it was super fun and had great music and a dance floor. Would highly recommend coming here for a fun night out!
The place has a pretty good ambience
Cocktails weren't worth the tag, and presentation was honestly kinda pathetic for today's standards..
Shoe string Fries were amazing
Tacos worth an Instagram post but to be honest did not make a tasteful impression
But hey I guess everything would taste better than a tequila. So if you visit make sure to have a shot before you eat the food. It will definitely help you swallow it.
So great for after work events. Sharing hearty plates of nachos, beautiful quesadillas and fusion dishes like burger tacos to spice things up from your usual Mexican affair.
