Great local ambience and friendly staff make this place an approachable cafe to return to. My only qualm was the toasted croissant being served as a thin sheet, literally toasted to the bone. The soft puffy pastry that is normally offered by a croissant was absent due to this technique.

For a rather small place that looks looks like your average run of the mill cafe, this place sure keeps you happy
Small but creative menu packing flavour. The other half the menu is a revolving seasonal specials board.
Staff were helpful with making choices and food came out hot and fast
Absolutely perfect coffee. Fragrant, tasty espresso and milk heated to just the right temperature. Flexible and friendly service with delicious cafe food. The avocado toast with lemon oil is my favourite but the BLT is delicious as well. Decor is cute inside and the backyard style er..back yard is welcoming and familiar. Cannot recommend this enough.
Stopped by for coffee. Very good coffee. Got a croissant to go with it and it was also good. Friendly service and a super cosy and older style decor. It has a truly lovely feel inside. Tempted to come back and try the hot breakfast.
For me, the highlight was the Frappe. Super refreshing! They always have different specials so the Marinated Eggplant may not be there next time I visit! But the Baked Beans are always on the board. Definitely give it a try.
The Shortlist is the sort of place that makes you want to be a local. Spanning the bottom floor and courtyard of an old Abercrombie Street terrace, it has a comfortable (albeit trendy) atmosphere that makes it feel like it’s been there forever. Streetside, trendy Darlington locals in sunglasses straddle stools beside tiny side tables and soak up patches of sunshine. Inside, the coffee machine and food prep are
But the cafe itself is great, and I’ve hit their warming baked beans with bocconcini on multiple occasions. Little Marionette coffee doesn’t play well with small amounts of soy milk, but the owner lady knew what she was doing and served me up a slightly lighter latte that was crescent fresh. The courtyard out the back is for conversation on the human condition
'The Shortlist’ is in the semi-made-up suburb of Darlington on the lemming-walk to Sydney Uni stretch of Abercrombie St. There have been two pretty respectable café options on this drag for ages – the laid back Tripod, serving coffee roaster coffee and the incredibly popular but slightly grumpily staffed Café Ella which is never open Sundays...
...the staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast very, very good, not least the coffee. Shown below: juicy egg and bacon in a soft bap with onion jam (I'm feling hungry again just looking at the picture) and a BLT with avocado.
Consistently great coffee and friendly, relaxed service. The bread is delicious. I recommend the beans!
Love the relaxed vibe the place gives . Felt like I could of sat there forever . Tried their quince black tea which was gorgeous. Better come back for the food next time!
The muesli was delicious and fresh and not the kind you can easily get from supermarkets. They didn't add enough yoghurt though, so it ended up being a little too dry. Bacon and egg roll was great, bacon didn't have much fat and overall not cooked too greasily. Staff were friendly and helpful. A nice place to stop by in the mornings on the way to university.
Lovely little family run cafe with courtyard at back, suitable for people with dogs, large prams etc.
Fast service with reasonable prices.
ACCESSIBILITY: Street parking available, wheelchair access with ample spaces to bring a dog and have your coffee etc.
MENU: Reasonably priced salads, sandwiches, burgers, breakfasts, Banh Mi, etc. They also sell loaves of bread, lots of treats, gluten free Christmas snacks.
They cater to well to the gluten free, vegetarian and vegan community.
LOCATION: Minutes from Redfern train station or about 15 minutes from Central station.
STAFF: Really lovely, efficient, very accommodating staff.
Recommend and would go again.
The LOVELIEST family run business. They do great food and coffee and make all their cakes in house - Making them extra fresh and extra delicious!
Highly recommend the Banh-mi - one of the best around! My partner is also addicted to their filos. Do yourself a favour and stop by!
Awesome coffee, and delicious banana bread at a great price. The owners are lovely and always make you feel like a valued customer.
Love the owners, Jack and Hannah. Fantastic coffee sourced from the Little Marionette in Annandale. Jack is an amazing baker who balances the sweetness in his freshly-made goodies to perfection. A big welcome when you arrive. Croissants and hot meals are very generous servings. This is a local, not to be missed.
Seriously good coffee.
Seriously good food.
Seriously good for a cruisey Sunday morning.
Love the home style food.
Stumbled upon this place on my walk to uni and it has quickly become my usual coffee place. Really brilliant, rich, strong coffee that is sure to give you that much neede wake up in the morning! The freshly baked muffins are to die for, with amazing flavours like cookies and cream and apricot and macadamia. Really friendly staff and quick coffee. An awesome atmosphere with a great vibe. A brilliant cafe!
