Review En Ya Japanese Restaurant - Sydney

A charming, cosy neighbourhood restaurant serving classic and original Japanese dishes Enya is the local Japanese restaurant that you have always wanted. Seriously. The type that you would return again and again - chatting with the "boss" and zeroing straight onto the blackboard specials. The food is fresh and full of flavour. And you will leave with a remembered smile when you spot the jokes pinned to the wall.

One sentence: Super cosy place for really good authentic Japanese food!

The table service was great and the meal was neatly prepared. I recommend anyone passing by who are keen for a quick bite or takeaway.

when me and my partner lived around the cnr from Enya we ate here many times. really beautiful food. we graduly tried everything thing on the menu and we can confidently say that it is all worth trying. good selection of japanese beers. really lovely and professional staff. I've been to japan a couple of times and can say that this place feels like a little resteraunt from tokyo down to the small details. casual setting, good prices. delicious!

One of the best Japanese places I’ve been too. Very authentic, friendly staff (chef is very nice) and reasonably priced. I come here every week and can’t get enough of it!

Enya’s food is consistently good. The staff is very friendly. We love going there on a weekday night with our own bottle of wine or ordering the dry sake from the restaurant. Miso eggplant is a must have. Beef takaki is super. And the newly added lightly grilled mackerels is our favorite.

Boutique size Japanese home style restaurant, sensational and unsophisticated food. Very friendly staff. Will come again!

Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in Sydney! Reasonable prices, great portions and authentic Japanese food. The restaurant itself is small, cozy and relaxing. The staff are very kind and the food is amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone and I'm definitely planning on coming back. Would give a 10/10 rating if I could! Great experience overall.

Random adhoc find in Elizabeth Bay/Rushcutters Bay. excellent service. sushimi tacos - very tasty nice change from the usual jap entrees, beef tataki was nice and mellow with crispy roasted garlic pieces. sushimi tuna light and delicate. japenese icecream was nice and smooth. Overall this hole in the wall is licensed and I would go back.

The saddest bento box I have ever seen.

For $20 I got 3 wafer thin slices of salmon in teriyaki sauce, 4 dry mini spring rolls, rice, a side salad and 2 slices of orange. It resembled the prison version of a bento box.

I then ordered 4 salmon nigiri sushi. Again wafer thin slices of salmon, but came at a whopping $14.

The interior is run down and the place looks messy with hundreds of yellow post it notes on the wall and hideous home made / hand drawn menus stuck on the wall.

In the middle of the room there's a big fridge - again plastered with flyers and other useless junk.

The back of the restaurant features a wash and bathroom - in dire need of a sledge hammer and a ute...

The staff was friendly and accommodating - just didn't make up for the lack of food on the plate and the messy shop.

In comparison, there's another Japanese restaurant nearby on Victoria St. For $22 you get one of the most impressive bento boxes in Sydney: Copious amounts of thick chunks of salmon, mixed sashimi, nigiri sushi, sushi rolls, jumbo prawn, miso soup, fruit and rice.

Enya needs to serve more food or I don't think they'll stay in business for long.

Enya Japanese, Ruschutters Bay.

A friend of mine lives in Potts Point and commented that Kylie Kwong had reviewed this small little Japanese place in Rushcutters Bay (twice might I add). She is a master of Asian cuisine, so gotta trust her selections! It's a little hole in the wall type joint and we made a trip on a quiet Thursday night.

Now, we eat about as much Japanese as there are Sushi trains in a Westfield shopping centre, so when we read the Menu, it looked pretty common Japanese. We were wrong. It was, as Kylie Kwong said, exquisite. A party of three, we selected a variety of options to share amongst us. Now, some things were your pretty run of the mill Japanese selections like Agedashi Tofu, Edamame and Sashimi, but I'm very sure it was handmade silken tofu and the freshest of tuna and salmon sashimi one could ask for. Here's where the initiated foodie makes her arrival. I have continually said no to eating fresh tuna, once I gave it a go, and hated it, but thought - in my newfound approach I'd try it. Boy, it was unreal! Very high quality seafood on offer at this place.

Now at first arrival, I thought the waitress had a tad RBF (if you don't know this phrase, put it through urban dictionary, mum). My defensive mechanism of over politeness and probing questions about Japan and some forthcoming travels, I had a new best friend - what a lovely lady - offering different sauces with each dish, checking in every five minutes and filling up the water like the waiters at Tetsuyas, one could forget they weren't actually there.

Anyway the main dishes of a steamed salmon with cabbage weren't the ordinary type experienced at a regular Japanese, rather a delicate addition to the menu. The highlight of the evening was their hot pot - wagyu (the real stuff), egg, tofu, veggies and a beautiful sauce - I'd order this again in a heartbeat. Now the menu options weren't overly small or expensive and it was roughly a $30 split each, it's worth every cent. I'll return, to try some other options, learn from Japanese phrases from their wall art and feel at home with the welcoming staff.

Good one Enya, certainly 'sailed away' with a handful of free lollipops for the road, a full stomach and a pleasurable evening.

I absolutely adored this sweet little restaurant. The food was delicious, staff beautifully friendly and helpful, and meals were so cheap. I cannot more highly recommend it. Cant wait to return.

Enya restaurant. Genuine food, fantastic service, good price! Don' t avoid it just because it looks quite basic, this place is really a good experience and i hope it will not change when the two guys who run it they will become more popular, because i m sure they will be popular with such a great food!

Bad night?. Maybe just a bad night in the Kitchen or we chose badly. Usually love the food here but tonight the chicken curry was avg with very little chicken ($17 with rice, which is steep for what we got!). The Sashimi Taco shell wasn't very crispy/fresh. The Prawn Shu Mai was like processed prawn meat. Nice people and very popular, but i won't be rushing back.

-----14 Nov, 2013-----

Fantastic food and service. Great find
